Chapter 7
It was now the next morning, Leonid, Viktor and I were all up and about to head to the train station.
"Does everyone have their necessary supplies?" Viktor asked us.
"All set and ready to go." Leonid said.
"Alright then. Let's get going."
We left the small house and made our way to the train station. The walk was quiet, but not in an awkward way. Viktor, Leonid, and I were walking in a peaceful way. Due to it being the early hours of the morning, there was hardly anyone out. Everyone was still sleeping peacefully in their homes with their families. One thing I haven't told the Smirnov brothers yet is that I've recently started to have nightmares about the night of July 17, 1918. I keep seeing flashbacks of my entire family being bayoneted and killed. The thought of it is enough to make me queasy. No one deserves to go out in the way they did.
We eventually made it to the train station, Viktor went up to the window to order three tickets while Leonid and I stayed back.
"I hope this goes smoothly," Leonid said, "Just so we can get to Crimea as safe and fast as possible."
"So do I. Hopefully, if all things go according to plan, we should get there in a week's time."
"I've really enjoyed my stay with you and Viktor," I said, turning to look at Leonid, "I wish there was a way that I could repay you."
"There's no need. Just knowing you're safe is enough payment for Viktor and I."
Leonid and I shared a small smile together. I would be lying if I said I haven't developed small feelings for the younger brother. Throughout my two month stay here, I've gotten very close to Leonid, to the point where we could trust each other with almost anything. He's told me about his childhood, about how their father left them when they were young, their mother dying of a sickness about a year ago, leaving them all on their own. I was interrupted from my thoughts when Viktor walked over.
"I got three tickets for us to go from Yekaterinburg to Crimea. Let's hope everything is smooth sailing from here."
