Small Revelations Part 35

They ran.

It was the only sane thing to do in that moment. Not that Jake wanted to do the same thing. Every fiber in his being reacted with the burst of energy. He wanted to turn around and take down everything that was following them. With his bare hands.

You are the most dangerous B.O.W. here Jake. Wesker's voice wouldn't stay out of his head.

A heavy black door stood slightly ajar in front of them and he pulled it all the way open letting the rest go inside before sliding in himself. Slamming it closed he pulled down a metal bar before stepping back to examine the barrier. Whatever it was, this place had been designed to keep these creatures out.

He turned around. Where were they exactly?

This way...

The Neman walked in front of them again towering over them all.

"Who were you?" Jake suddenly felt himself asking. "I mean from before..."

The creature paused, its clawed fingers squeezed in and out, even Jake could see this was a sign of anger. It turned to face him, its teeth bared, nostrils flared out. He took a step back from as it moved toward him.

With lightning speed its hand latched onto his shoulder dragging him towards its face. He winced at the pain in his shoulder as the claws lanced into his skin, shredding the shoulder of the gray shirt he'd just picked up.

He gasped as it shrieked into his face, spraying him with spittle and hot, vapid, breath, at the same time he held up a hand warning the others to stay back.

Doesn't matter now, brother.

It dropped him and Jake sagged to his knees for a moment, the pain in his shoulder dulling as his skin knit itself back together. The creature stared at it and then turned away.

Promised so much. Lies.

Jake could only feel his unease grow as they followed the creature that shared DNA with him. It was absolutely lethal in its movements down to its sinewy muscle.

And it had called out to him. He wasn't sure whether he was supposed to be glad about this or horrified. Probably a mixture of both. He could only hope that Sherry and Anja were out of this nightmare.

That Wesker had run had not surprised him. He understood on a deeper level that his father had been a survivalist. One to the extreme. He didn't pick a fight he knew he couldn't win. Not that that didn't stop him from bloviating when he was sure of his victory.

The description of Wesker would have been laughable if he wasn't so damn efficient at getting at what he wanted.

Still following the Neman, which resembled a demonic spawn of hell from every fairy tale gone wrong, Jake shuddered.

They'd found something he wasn't immune to, something that he could be mutated into. It made the J'avo and everything else he'd left behind in Edonia look like child's play.

And yet, he was thrilled with the danger of it. That side of him that had always craved danger, getting a kick out of every monster he'd taken down. It was why he and Leon had worked together so well.

But now in the midst of that, he was here without his partner or his wife. That thrill was still there but he'd never felt this kind of fear before. The only time he'd even come close was when he'd been separated from Sherry in China. Watching the J'avo drag her away even as he stormed through countless J'avo to get to her. But it hadn't been enough then.

He was terrified it wasn't going to be enough now.

"Earth to Jake," Jill's voice snapped him back to the present.

"Sorry," he turned catching Chris's gaze.

The man's pain was obvious, but he was holding himself together remarkably well considering the circumstances.

"What's our next move?"

"We can't let all these creatures get to the surface," Jake repeated. He remembered Claire saying something similar to him when they were in the hospital. Fresh pain rocked through him but he pushed it aside.

"Clean sweep?" Jill asked.

"He's still here somewhere," Jake said turning to face her. "We need to get to him before..." He didn't finish. He didn't need to.

Chris put a hand on his shoulder. "We will give them hell," he said.

"I don't know what else is down here but it could be anything..." Jake hesitated. "This place should stay sealed off..."

Kill Wesker? The thought buzzed into his mind, the pain was sharp and Jake gasped as it abated.

"Kill Wesker," he affirmed out loud looking at it. Maybe it wasn't so bad having this thing as his half sibling. "Are there others?"

Yes...

"I sense a but..."

Divided, the creature split its hands in different directions.

"Great," Jake muttered. "Just like regular humans they disagree. Do they at least all want to kill Wesker?"

The creature dipped its ugly head in an affirmative. The black inky eyes narrowed in on his face. And you. It looked at his shoulder again and he understood what that meant. They were promised something he'd already had. Some of them didn't understand that it had been forced on him. That he hadn't wanted that injection in the first place.

"Oh, well shit, guess my fan club just got a few new members."

"Fan club?" Jill asked.

"Don't ask," Jake turned back to the Neman. He remembered it used to be human. "Let's go."

He looked down at the piece of chair leg he'd been carrying. He still had a gun, a few spare clips in his pants pocket. And oddly enough, a small pack of baby wipes to go with them. In case a zombie drooled on him or something...

The door they'd come through had been quiet but he knew it was only a matter of time before something else tried ramming through it. Better to go out there and confront the problem head-on rather than be stuck in this room waiting for death to find them.

He turned back to the Neman. "Not you?"

"Not you, what?" Chris spoke up looking between Jake and the Neman. His finger had remained on the trigger ever since they'd found it. Jake couldn't blame him.

"Apparently some of them want my head as well..."

"You're popular," Jill said from next to Chris.

"But not this one..." He turned back to the Neman. "Why?"

The inky black eyes met his again as the creature linked its lips before answering.

Not your fault, Wesker is a monster. Child is cure. Child is one of us.

"What do you mean?" Jake was in the creature's face, no longer afraid of the dark stare as he met it with his own. His forearm pinned it to the wall, while his other hand grabbed its throat. It was laughable because it towered over him.

She talk.

"Who talks???"

Anja, she talk to us.

The combat fatigues that Ada had stolen held a lot more clips and ammo than she'd come out with. She felt a small twinge of guilt over the man she'd knocked out and subsequently stolen the clothes off of, but it was a small matter. She needed the weapons to get back inside and face whatever was down there.

Are you going back to the finish the job? Or is because Leon is down there? She checked herself. The job came first every time. Or it was supposed to. How many times had she sidetracked to save Leon's ass? More than a few. Some he wasn't even aware of.

Not that she didn't admire that yearning look he always sent her way. But that's all you allow yourself, Ada. He's safer that way in the long run. We both are.

She checked the glock she'd stolen before jamming into the holster. The pants were loose, nothing like the tight pants she preferred. The tighter they were, the less they caught on anything. Still, the ammo she was currently carrying made her feel like a small army. The bullet proof vest felt unnecessary but she had taken it anyway. She'd faced her own share of claws, darts, and the occasional gun shot.

And now she was running headlong back into danger. She'd done what was asked of her, now she was doing what she wanted.

It was no problem skirting the men patrolling the woods. The BSAA was taking more care now that there were BOWs in play. She'd found a dead infected wolf already it's body disintegrating as she stared at it. If this got too much out of control they'd bomb the place again.

There!

The small entrance in the ground where she'd come out earlier with Sherry, Anja, and Anna earlier. She raised her right hand up, bringing a few other men to her and then pointed into the ground. Everyone had just assumed she was new, she hadn't counted on it being this easy to get into the BSAA ranks, but in a hot situation, they saw a uniform and that was it. She filed that information away for future use.

Men started dropping into the hole. Ada hadn't taken the time to get their names just yet. She wasn't sure if she should. Who knew what awaited them down there. At this point it could be anything.

She was the last to go in and before she could drop a hand grabbed her arm. "Didn't think you'd go away that easily." The voice chilled her to her core but she maintained her composure turned around and even smiled at Wesker.

"You going to stop me?"

"Of course not," he smiled back at her. "I'm going to tell you how to stop it."
