Chapter Three:
"Miss Huxley. Welcome to detention."
Master Leto says, steepleing his fingers.
Ugh!
It just had to be Master Leto, Didn't it?
He seems to have a great interest in me, and it's not good.
I'm supposed to keep attention away from me, not at me!
And my last name isn't actually Huxley, that's just what we had to tell the school.
I finally take my seat, glaring at the floor.
It's day five of detention.
I am SOOOOO ready to be free!
The worst part about it is that Stina is here in detention too.
That and it keeps me away from Sophie.
But I'm fine with that.
Dad and Gisela aren't.
They were soooooo mad when they heard I got detention.
They grounded me.
So I'm grounded and I have detention.
No hanging with Trey till this stinking detention is up.
I sigh, then somebody plops down into the seat next to me.
"Hey."
I look up, happily.
It's Trey.
Then I remember where we are.
"What are you doing here?!"
I ask, frowning.
He smirks.
"Someone 'accidentally' released a tornado in the class room..... and I got blamed. So here I am! Here to keep you company."
My heart flutters with gratitude and I must blush cause his smirk gets bigger.
Ugh!
Why does he have to be so cute and sweet!?
After two hours of writing 'I know what I did was wrong and I won't do it again' over and over, we are free to leave.
"Ugh- Maybe I shouldn't have joined this joint-"
Trey says, rotating his wrist and flexing his fingers.
I groan too, my whole hand is cramping.
"Hey, I know! Wait here, I'll be right back!"
Trey says suddenly, before he takes off running downt the hall.
He's back in a couple minutes, a small elixir bottle in each hand.
He hands one to me.
"Bottoms up!" He says teasingly.
We uncork the tops and down the sparkly purple liquid. It tastes like burnt rubber, and I gag, barley getting it down. But I immediately feel the muscles in my hand relax and the pain eb away.
Trey's face is scrunched up from the flavor, but he smiles through it. "Pays to have a physician for a dad. But man, he needs to figure out a way to make them taste better."
I nod in agreement then remember I have some mood candy in my locker. We retrieve some and then
I tell Trey there's a friend I have to find and he asks if he can come with me.
"Um.. sure." I say, trying to act normal.
He smiles and we head down to the leapmasters.
I see Sophie about to leave, and I run over to her.
"Hey!"
She turns and smiles.
Though it looks forced.
"Hey Emily."
I shrug.
"Hi. Oh by the way this is-"
"Trey Heslege."
She cuts me off.
I frown.
"Umm, yeah. Do you know each other?"
Trey is glaring and Sophie is blushing.
"Yeah.... we umm... do."
Sophie says nervously.
"You're friends?" I ask.
"No." Trey states as Sophie say,
"Kinda." They look at each other and I see hurt in Sophie's eyes, but just anger in Trey's.
What in heck is going on?
"We've met. I've had some.... accidents... and have had to have Elwin. So we've seen each other around." Sophie says carefully.
"'Some.'" Trey scoffs under his breath.
Then his Imparter starts to beep.
He glances at it and sighs.
"I have to go, Em. See ya."
He says, pulling out a home crystal and leaping away before I can say goodbye.
"Well that was strange." I comment.
Sophie just sighs.
"Trey and me..... we don't really get along."
"Oh. So what are you doing today?"
I ask nonchalantly.
"My friends Dex Dizznee and Biana Vacker are coming over. Your welcome to come too, if you want."
She says, finally brightening back up.
"I'll have to make sure with my dad, but yeah!"
"Okay! See you later!"
She says, waiting for me to say the same, before using the leap master to leap home.

I end up spending the whole afternoon at Havenfield, where Sophie lives with her adoptive parents, Grady and Edaline Ruwen.
They are all really nice to me, except for Biana who seems a little stuck up.
Sophie even invites me over to play basequest with them at the Vackers the next day.
I go and actually have a lot of fun.
Sophie is really nice, and to my horror and against my will, I find myself kinda liking her and her friends.
And I found out the reason Trey don't like her.
I guess she gets hurt a lot and is prone to accidents and almost dying, and I guess it takes Elwin away from Trey a lot.
But at least Trey has his mom, Livvy Heslege .
Or at least that what I thought.
But I guess she too is a physician and is on standby by Sophie and her friends a lot.
I feel bad for Trey.
He doesn't deserve to be treated like this.
Why can't Sophie just mind her own business and stop getting hurt?
And why does she keep getting hurt?
By what?
Or by who?
