Chapter Eleven:
"Hi, Emily! You almost ready to go?"
Sophie asked as she walked into my bedroom where I was straightening my cape in the mirror.
It had been two weeks since I had awakened after the "accident".
Everything was going well, and today would be my first returning day at Foxfire.
"Um...I suppose. I'm just so nervous for some reason...."
I replied unsurely.
Sophie gave a half smile.
"I'm sure you'll be fine."
She said.
I finally stepped away from mirror.
"Let's just get this over with."
I grumbled. Sophie nodded and we headed to the leap master.
After a quick leap, we stood staring around foxfire.
I took a deep breath and then followed Sophie into crowd of havoc.
After orientation, we split up and head to our separate classes. I wasn't sure I would be able to find my way, but the more I looked around, the more things looked familiar.
I was walking briskly towards wherever I was going when a hand on my shoulder stopped me mid step.
"Emily?"
I turned to see a brown haired boy standing behind me.
"Um, yes? Can I help you?"
The boys eyes filled with hurt.
"Come on. Your not gonna be like that are you?"
"B-be like what?"
I asked, very confused
The boy sighed.
"You don't remember me? Am I that forgettable?"
He definitely wasn't, but I didn't say that.
"I don't know what you want me to say. If I knew you before, I'm sorry, but I don't remember you now."
I said quietly, glancing at my feet.
"Before? Before what? And where have you been the last two and a half weeks?"
The boy asked, becoming a little agitated.
I bit her lip and looked around.
"Not here."
I whispered, before turning and walking on.
The boy trailed behind me.
We walked until we came to a more deserted hallway, then I stopped and slowly looked at him.
"I uh, was in an accident. I was out for a few days they said. I got brain trauma or something. I'm fine now, but my memories are still slowly coming back..."
I quietly explained, not looking him in the eye.
There was a pause and then the boy gently lifted my head so that he could look me in the eyes.
"I don't believe you."
He said cooley.
I blushed, annoyed.
"No! Stop! See, your not like this! The real you is strong and smart and not afraid of anything! Something is going on and I want you to tell me what it is right now!"
He began to yell.
I cowered away from him and was just about to open my mouth to say that nothing was going on, when Master Leto came around the corner and spotted us.
"Ditching is not allowed in this school." He said sternly.
"We aren't ditching."
The boy snapped, keeping his eyes on me.
I slowly backed away, fear clouding my eyes.
"Miss Huxley, please go to your class. Me and Mr Heslege need to have a chat."
Heslege.
The name rang in my ears for a second, and then it clicks.
"Trey..." I breathed.
Trey whipped toward me.
"Emily?"
He asked, hope feeling his voice.
My head started to ache and I closed my eyes.
"Your name is Trey." I said quietly.
"Yes, Miss Huxley. His name is Trey. Now please go to your class."
Master Leto said sternly, before Trey could reply.
I swallowed and opened my eyes.
Master Leto looked slightly pale and Trey hopeful.
"I'm sorry..." I whispered, before hurrying past them to my class.
When lunch came, I hid in the library. I didn't want to chance running into the Trey guy again.
I almost wished I could remember him, but I couldn't. His name was all that came to me. And that itself was foggy and seemed almost made up.
Something weird was going on.
Why was Master Leto so determined that I go to class?
It was only Elvin History.
Did he not want me to talk to Trey?
I pondered these questions until it was time for my next class.
I had almost made it to the safety of the room, when a hand shot out and pulled me into an unknown room.
It was dark inside and it my eyes a moment to adjust and realize it was a supply closet.
"You missed lunch."
A voice said in the dark.
A shiver ran down my back.
"Sorry... I wasn't feeling very hungry."
I said softly.
"Why are you hiding from me?"
I bit my lip.
"I'm not-"
"Yes you are."
Trey cut in.
I sighed. "I'm sorry. I just didn't-"
I stopped.
"Didn't what?" He pressed.
"Nothing. Nevermind. What do you want? I'm gonna be late for class."
I said quickly.
"I just want to know what's going on. Why don't don't you remember me? Why arent you acting like yourself? Why are you wearing a school uniform?"
He questioned.
"Um, because this is school..? Why wouldn't I be?"
I asked, scrunching up my eyebrows.
"Because, your Emily Huxley! You never obey orders! You do whatever you like!"
He exclaimed.
"I do?- I mean- I don't?I mean- Oh I don't know! You're confusing me!"
I gasped, exasperated.
"This isn't like you. At all!
You used to be smart and brave and afraid of noth-"
"You already told me that."
I cut in.
He sighed.
"Sorry... can you just please tell me what's going on?"
"Well I would, if you would just give me a second to talk!"
I retorted.
Trey rubbed his temples.
"Okay. I'm sorry. Please explain."
I took a slow, deep breath.
"Truth be told, I'm almost just as confused as you. I woke up two and half weeks ago to Sophie Foster standing before me and-"
"Sophie Foster?" He hissed.
"Yes Sophie Foster! Don't interrupt. I woke up to her standing before me telling me I was her cousin and-"
"Her cousin?? Pffffftttttt!"
"What?"
I asked.
"Of all people, you are not cousins with miss perfect pants."
He retorted.
"How would you know?"
I growled.
"Because I know you! We've been best friends for the last six years! Yeah, six years! And you've definitely never menched that. Annnnndd Sophie Foster doesn't know who her biological parents are. So how could you be her cousin?"
He questioned.
"W-what?" I stuttered.
"Grady and Edaline aren't her parents?"
"Pfft- no. Sophie Foster was some kind of lab experiment that some rebels cooked up and decided to unleash on the world. She's only been in the Lost Cities for a few years maybe.
Trey said, annoyed.
"B-but that can't be! I have memory's of me and her playing when we little! Of Grady and Edaline taking us to Atlantis to shop! And-"
"Stop." Trey cut in. "None of it is true. Sophie Foster also happens to be one of the strongest telepaths our world has ever seen. She and her posse could have easily erased your memory and added fake memories to supply what your brain needed."
"But-" my bottom lip started to quiver. It was all a lie? But how? And if so, where was my real family?
It was all coming crashing down on me and my heart was pounding so hard, it felt ready to burst.
(mwahahhahahah)
