Chapter 9: Exhausted
With her family out of the room, Elle took a deep breath and looked Malik straight in the eye. "Are there different types of vampires?"
"Well, yes. Several different types. Why?" The older man rose his dark eyebrows, bewildered at the young blonde's question.
"Julianna mentioned something about it before everyone showed up. She also mentioned that she wasn't an ordinary vampire. Whatever that means. Anyways, I want to know more about this Abigail Williams. Who is she and what exactly did she do that's worst than accusing one hundred and fifty innocents?" Elle wanted to know what she had been thrown into and seeing how her family had lied to her for so long, she felt she could only rely on the patriarch of the Rosewood family to tell her the truth.
Malik ran his hand over the top of his head, scratching his beard and then exhaling. "She sacrificed those innocents. . ."
"Sacrificed them for what?" As the young witch learned more about this Abigail girl, the more she felt she was in over her head.
"Something very terrible, my child. . . And I don't think you're ready to know just yet. . ." Malik had the same forlorn expression on his face as Elle's mother had when asked about it. "Just. . . Get some rest. . ."
Before Elle could object and press Malik for more details, the older man exited the room, leaving his son and her alone together, along with an awkward silence.
"So. . ." Ethan began, attempting to break the silence. "How're you feeling now?"
"To be honest, I feel aggravated that no one is telling me anything, upset that my psycho Aunt is wanting to use me for some crazy scheme, sad I crashed my brother's car. I really liked that Audi. Oh and worried about Carrington. Where is she?"
"Carrington's in the next room over with Angel. . . She's been by her side since we got here three days ago."
Elle's eyes widened. Three days! She'd been unconscious for three days? "I want to go see them."
The blonde was already climbing out bed, carefully making sure not to yank the IV out of her arm again and rolling the machine with her as she started leaving the room.
"Elle, wait!" Ethan chased after her in a panicked state, but the blonde was already crossing the threshold of the room her friend was in.
Carrington sat in a chair beside the raven-hared female named Angel, clutching her hand in her own, her eyes holding a tired look in them and her posture slumped, Elle assumed from her staying by the other female's side for so long.
"Carrington?" Elle asked softly.
The bronze-haired female lifted her amber-colored gaze to Elle, her irises enlarging when she saw her up and about.
"Elle, I'm glad you're awake. I was getting worried." Carrington lowered her gaze back to the raven-haired female. "I'm sorry I wasn't there when you woke up. I had to be by Angel. . . She's in pretty bad shape still. . ."
A frown crossed the young witch's face when she realized her aunt was the cause behind the unconscious girl's condition.
"I'm sorry about my aunt. . . And what she did to Angel. . ." Elle apologized, getting a good look at the raven haired female, laying unconscious in the middle of the room. "If I had known about her and that she was going to show up, I never would have run towards you guys. I would have gone the other way. . ."
"It's not your fault, Elle. Your aunt is a psychotic bitch that only wants one thing. To use you for some wicked scheme." Carrington reassured her friend. "My father warned us that there was a vampire wanting to find Abigail, but we had no clue it was your aunt and had no clue you were the key."
In that moment Elle was reminded of the argument she had with everyone about keeping secrets and keeping her in the dark.
"Why did you let me believe you didn't know I was a witch, Carrington?" She questioned directly.
The female's amber eyes widened, taken aback by her friend's question.
"Well. . . Uh. . ." Carrington swallowed hard, taking a deep breath before answering. "I wasn't sure if we could trust you. . ."
Now Elle was taken aback. "Couldn't trust me?"
"Yeah. I've been wronged by a witch in the past and when I realized you were one, I wanted to see what you were about." The more Carrington spoke, the worst Elle felt about the entire situation she was in. On the other hand, Elle and the Rosewoods had only recently met, so she couldn't exactly be angry at them for not telling her the truth or not trusting her.
Several moments of strained silence passed by before Ethan couldn't take it anymore and spoke up.
"So, what did the doctor say about Angel?" He directed at his sister before walking over and standing beside her, looking down at the dark haired female the two had known for quite some time.
"He said her injuries would heal within the next day or so, but as for her waking up, there's no telling." Carrington replied sullenly.
"I'm so sorry for this happening, Carrington. . ." Elle put aside her anger for the time being and decided to be there for her friend instead. "I take it you and Angel are really close. . ."
"Yeah. Very close. We dated for two years."
The blonde widened her eyes, slightly in awe at the revelation. "She was your girlfriend?"
"Yeah. When your aunt attacked that day, I was over at Angel's house talking things out with her. I missed her so much and wanted to get back together. . ." Looking up at the blonde, Carrington noticed the look of astonishment on her face. "It isn't awkward for you to be friends with me now, is it?"
"Well, no. . But, I just didn't realize you were into girls with the way you spoke about the Todd guy to Ethan at the party."
"I'm into both. It's just Angel was my longest and most meaningful relationship." Carrington glanced back at the unconscious female, flashbacks of their relationship playing through her head.
A cool breeze blew through Carrington's bedroom from the open bay window.
The bronze-haired female lounged across the seat of the window, Angel cuddled up to her side and playing with Carrington's curly hair.
"Your hair is so pretty, Carr. I love how it looks in the sun." The raven-haired female had a strand up towards the light. "It looks like it has so many different shades in it."
Carrington scoffed, pulling away. "I hate my hair. It's so unmanageable and ugly."
Angel's eyebrows furrowed and a frown crossed her face. "Don't say that! Nothing about you is ugly. You're beautiful in every way, Carrington Rosewood."
A blush shown on the other female's face. "You're so corny, Angelique Renaldi."
"And you're so irresistible." The raven-haired female placed a sweet and quick kiss on the other female's plump lips, gaining a soft moan from Carrington when her right hand slid under her red camisole.
Angel teased Carrington's skin, her hand gliding up her taut stomach, her fingers dancing around her belly button for a moment before finishing their route up to her breast.
"An. . . gel. . ." Carrington panted, her body melting under her touch.
She brushed her lips down the side of the other female's neck, Carrington's breathing growing ragged.
"What's wrong, Carr?" The other female had a mischievous glint in her eye as her opposite hand trailed up Carrington's leg and towards the waistband of her gray sweatpants.
A very audible gasp escaped her mouth as Angel's fingers untied the drawstring of her pants and then slid down into her lace panties.
The heated moment, however was short lived when a knock sounded on the bedroom door, both girl's jumping and immediately pulling apart.
Back in the present, Carrington snapped out her daze and frowned sullenly. "She has to wake up and be okay. . ."
"She will and she'll be fine." Elle walked forward and patted her friend's shoulder.
"Thanks, Elle." Carrington smiled over at her, then frowned again. "You should be in bed. Your aunt took a lot of your blood."
The blonde tsked. "I'm fine. See? I feel so good I can do a little dance."
Elle spun in a circle and pumped her arms above her head, instantly regretting it as her vision started blurring.
"Whoa. Let's get you back next door and in bed." Ethan gently placed his hand on the small of the female's back, beginning to lead her out of the room.
Surprisingly, the blonde made no objections and simply allowed Ethan to guide her.
Once he had helped her back in bed, Elle asked, "How'd you guys know to come when you did, Ethan? During the battle with my aunt, I mean."
"It was your phone call. As soon as you told William to send help, we jumped into action." Ethan answered, tempted to sit in the chair beside the bed, but worried Elle night not want him in the room. "I would have been there sooner, but the pack was scattered all over town and we had to gather them."
"Thank you for coming to my rescue." Elle smiled, her eyes slowly beginning to droop as she let out a yawn. "Boy am I tired now. . ."
"You should rest." Ethan started walking towards the door. "I'll be over in the next room with Carrington. . ."
"Ethan, please stay with me. . ." Elle whispered sleepily before the male made it through the door.
He stopped in his tracks, his heart melting at the simple request. He didn't know what it was about this girl, but he found himself wanting to oblige her every request and wanting to do everything he could to make her happy.
"You really want me to stay?"
"Yes." She just nodded, closing her eyes, her lids heavy with sleep. "I like having you around. . ."
It may have just been her exhausted state and she didn't realize what she said, but Ethan found himself blushing at Elle's simple statement as he perched himself in the chair beside her.
"Night, Elle." He whispered to her with a smile.
