Chapter 2: Setting Up
Elle sat the last box down into her new room with a sigh of relief. She wanted to use her magic to move them upstairs, but her parents firmly told her no. It was too risky since the new town they lived in wasn't magical.
Oh great! More bad news. Elle had thought upon hearing this. How was she going to train and advance her magic now?
"Last box?" William asked, standing in the doorway.
"Oh, hey. Did you get your room set up yet?" Elle asked casually.
"Yeah. You want some help setting yours up?"
"No. I'm good, but. . . I have an idea." Elle smiled, pulling all the blinds shut and curtains down.
"What're you going to do, Elle?"
"You'll see." Is all she said as she closed the door and then held her palms together, chanting a little spell. A moment later, the boxes starting glowing a bright silver aura and with a snap of her finger, Elle's room was set up.
William looked around the room, nodding his head. "I'm impressed."
"Well, thank you." Elle stated, seeming happy for the first time since she found out about the move.
"Wow. It looks great in here, Elle." Her mother remarked as she opened the door. "But why is it so dark in here?"
This caused a large grin to form on her face, a giggle threatening to escape as she and William exchanged glances.
"Sorry." Elle, pulled the curtains back and blinds back open before her mother noticed the very obvious guilty expression on her face.
"Oh, look. Our neighbors are coming over." Savannah spotted the family walking down the sidewalk towards their house. "Let's go greet them, guys."
Before they could respond, Savannah left the room and made her way downstairs, opening the front door before either of her children made it downstairs.
William and Elle let out loud groans then placed smiles on their faces as they made their way down to the front hallway.

Their neighbors turned out to be the Rosewoods, a family that appeared like they were right out of a magazine. The mother, who had slightly tan colored skin and hazel eyes, wore her bronze hair in a bun and without a piece out of place. Her name was Pamela, she was very friendly, and worked down at the local library. Her and Savannah seemed to hit it off right away, gushing over their favorite book authors and books they believed were the best there was. Then there was the father, Malik, who was the CEO of a large business located at the edge of town.
"You and my husband Samuel would get along well. He was a business man back where we came from." Savannah said cheerfully to the middle-aged man with graying black hair, dark skin, and amber-colored eyes.
"Where did you guys move from?" The daughter, Carrington, spoke cheerfully as she twirled curly hair, the same shade as her mother's, around her index finger. Her skin was a slightly darker shade than her mother's, but not nearly as dark as her father's and she appeared pretty fit, like she worked out a lot or ran every day.
"Carrington, don't be so rude." Pamela scolded her daughter.
"What? I was just asking." The teenager rolled her eyes and cocked her hip to the side.
"We're from New England. In the Providence area." Elle said matter-of-factually.
"That's where a lot of witches are. Are you guys witches?" Carrington asked casually, as if it weren't such an odd thing to ask someone. For a split second, Elle thought she caught a flicker of something in the girl's amber-colored eyes, but quickly shook it away when the girl's eyes appeared normal.
"Of course not! That's fairy tale stuff, child." Savannah responded nervously.
"You'd be surprised." Carrington whispered, causing an odd feeling of awkwardness to pass through the air.
"So, will Elle be attending Roseville High?" Malik inquired, changing the subject as soon as he picked up on the awkwardness.
"Yes. I start tomorrow." Elle answered, a frown crossing her face as she realized she'd be in non-magical classes.
"Oh. I could show you around! I'm a Senior this year and I know the school like the back of my hand!" Carrington declared happily, clapping her perfectly manicured hands together, the long, red painted nails tapping together and creating a clicking noise.
"Um. . . Okay. I could use someone's help tomorrow. Thank you, Carrington." Elle replied, feeling like if she declined, she'd hurt the girl's feelings.
"It's no problem. After all, I want us to be good friends, Elle! Wouldn't that be fun?" She clapped her hands together again as she jumped up and down, appearing like a child who had just been given a huge bag of candy.
This made Elle giggle and smile. She'd never seen someone act so filled with happiness before.
"Okay. Yeah. I guess it'd be fun."
"Yay! Yay! It sure will." Carrington was pleased to hear this. "We'll be best friends!"
Elle was giggling again when a loud bang sounded outside.
"What was that?" William was the first one to ask, opening the front door and everyone walking outside.
Immediately, they saw the smoke that permeated the air and heard the yells coming from inside it.
"Damn car! Should've never bought it from that crook."
Elle made out the silhouette of a tall male through the smoke, but she couldn't see much else.
"Ethan? Is that you?" Carrington ran into the smoke without hesitation.
Someone needs to do something about this smoke. Elle thought.
"Whoa, son. Bluebird is done for this time." Malik whistled, the smoke subsiding finally and everyone walking towards the now partially visible blue car.
"Yeah. I don't know what happened this time." With the smoke mostly gone, Elle was able to see the person clearly. It was a tall young man, about her age, having buzzed, dark hair and hazel eyes that seemed to glow in the sunlight. On his tanned, muscular body, he wore dark jeans, black shoes, white shirt, and blue jacket.
"Mind if I take a look?" William asked suddenly, walking towards the car.
"Um, sure." Ethan lifted the hood and moved aside.
William examined the car for a few moments before saying, "I could fix this for you. It'll just take me a couple of days."
"Really? That would be awesome, man!" Ethan high-fived William. "By the way, I'm Ethan Rosewood."
"I'm William Lewis. That's my mom, Savannah, and younger sister, Elle. We're your new neighbors." He remarked casually, still leaning over the car.
"Oh. You're the ones from New England, right?"
"Yes. That's us." Savannah smiled happily. "It's nice to meet you, Ethan."
"It's nice to meet you guys, too." His eyes drifted over to Elle, locking with hers. She was the most gorgeous girl he had ever seen, with long blonde hair, cascading down her back in waves, electric blue eyes that peered right into your soul, and a figure that looked very fit and healthy.
Elle blushed as she noticed Ethan eyeing her up and down, making her think he was undressing her with his eyes. Since she'd focused on her magic when they lived in New England, she'd never really paid much attention to the looks guys always seemed to give her. Seeing Ethan gazing at her now, she couldn't help, but feel a little embarrassed.
"So, are you attending Roseville High, Elle?" Ethan broke the silence that had suddenly fallen over them.
"Uh, yeah. Tomorrow will be my first day." Elle replied, snapping out of her embarrassment.
"Elle's a Senior just like us, Ethan!" Carrington jumped up and down happily. "Speaking of school, how are you getting there tomorrow, brother? Your car is broken down! I suppose you could catch a ride with me. Yeah! You can ride with me. Elle, you could catch a ride with us too, if you want."
"Thanks, but no thanks. I appreciate the offer, but I think I'll just ride the bus."
"Phish posh! I insist you ride with us."
Elle started to open her mouth to say no when Carrington held a hand up.
"You'll ride with us. Okay?"
Wow. This girl sure is pushy. Elle found herself thinking as she just nodded. Really pushy.

Elle wandered down the halls of Roseville High aimlessly.
Once they had arrived at the high school, Carrington had shown Elle where everything was, but now that she was on her own, she was having a hard time finding her classrooms.
"Ugh! Why couldn't we have just stayed in New England." She sank to her feet, leaning against the wall and throwing her head into her hands.
I miss New England and my old school. . . I miss my teachers and my friends. . . I miss my training sessions with William. . . I miss everything! Why did this have to happen before my birthday? I told Mom and Dad I'd stay home. Vampires couldn't have taken me then, if they were even after me. . . All these thoughts whirled around in Elle's head, causing tears to stream down her face. Look at me now. . . Crying, lost, and in a school with no magic. I'm practically an outsider! Not to mention, I now have no way to study magic or advance in my powers. . .
Thinking this last part, Elle was reminded of the small spell book she'd found the night before when she'd gone through her old trunk. Reaching into her pants pocket, she pulled the brown and white book out, opening it to a random page.
"Maybe there's a spell I could use to find the Biology Room." Elle flipped through the pages until she found what she was looking for. "Ah, here it is."
She took a deep breath, standing to her feet and standing in direction of the wall, imagining a GPS screen being in front of her. Reaching her hand out, she touched the wall and began.
"Though I may be lost and confused. Show me the right route and take me to the Biology Room."
Light flooded the hallway and before she knew what was happening, Elle found herself standing in front of a gray door. A sign hung to the right of the doorway, cursive writing indicating it was in fact the room she needed.
Sighing in relief, Elle walked into the classroom, instantly being greeted by watchful eyes.
"So nice of you to join us. I take it, you're our new student, Miss. Lewis?" A male teacher with graying hair and beady black eyes, hidden behind glasses, looked up from the chalkboard. "I'm Mr. Penwall."
"Um. . . Yes. I'm Ariella Lewis." She replied, nodding her head.
"Do you realize, you're ten minutes late, Ariella?" The teacher pointed to the clock. "Class starts at 10:15. It's 10:25."
"It is? But that clock says I'm right on time." Elle pointed to the clock as well, making the minute hand move backwards with magic. "Your glasses must be dirty, Mr. Penwall."
He took the black glasses off and wiped them on his shirt, then putting them back on he said, "Oh. I do apologize then. Well, why don't you go ahead and have a seat? I have you next to Ethan Rosewood."
"Okay. Thank you." Elle smiled as she walked to where Ethan sat at the back of the room.
"Hey, there." Ethan whispered to her. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry about my sister yesterday. She's kind of overbearing and pushy."
"Oh really? I hadn't noticed." Elle whispered back sarcastically, causing Ethan to chuckle quietly.
"She means well, I promise. I hope she didn't scare you away, though. That would suck, considering I'd like to get to know you more."
"Trust me, I'm just a normal, boring teenager. You'd be better off getting to know a fly." Elle really didn't feel like getting close to anyone the first day of school. Especially not at a normal school in a normal town.
"Aw, come on. Please? Be my friend?" Elle couldn't help but giggle as Ethan looked just like a puppy begging for food.
"Fine. We'll see." Elle answered, turning away from him and now paying attention to the lesson being taught.
