Phantoms first appeared on the Alternate Earth am estimated decade ago. They emerged for the first time when Alayashiki Research Facility was hit by a terrorist bomb. When this happened, a virus that affects the brain was let out and infected almost all of the population of the Alternate Earth. The virus allowed the humans to be able to become aware of the phantoms. After this occurred, phantoms were defined as the creatures that broke the barrier between reality and myth. The event also gave some humans peculiar abilities that let them battle evil phantoms.

The majority of phantoms are said to be harmless to humans. But many phantoms may affect humans in negative ways. There is a great lack on information on phantoms, but it is said that they are created as figments of the imagination, or that they are apparitions or specters. It is believed that phantoms owe their existences to the human subconscious.
