Jisung sighed. Why didn't he invite Subin over? He felt super awkward, standing in front of his crush's house, too afraid to ring the bell. He pushed his round glasses up his nose and fixed his snapback before pressing the doorbell. A few seconds passed, until Jisung could hear the love of his life through the speaker.
"Jisung, is that you?" She asked. She probably didn't recognise him under his ... disguise. "Yeah, it's me. Will you let me in?" Not even a second later the door buzzed and Jisung entered the apartment complex. He knew which floor she lived in, since he had asked her beforehand.
Jisung confidently, at least he thought it was confident, to the elevator and climbed inside, pressing the button to the seventh floor. While riding upwards, he practised his second confession to the clever and talented girl. But every time he started saying 'Han Subin', nervousness took over him and made his knees feel all wobbly.
His Hyungs would make fun of him. They all were pros at dating. Jeno and Do Inhwa were a match made in heaven. Lucas was super in love with his beloved Yoo Boyoung. Donghyuck was happily dating his non-celebrity girlfriend and niece of their manager and Mark was happily dating his childhood friend and Jisung's celebrity crush, Ahn Mari.
The elevator door opened and Jisung flinched. He almost drowned in his own thoughts while he climbed out of the elevator and over to the apartment door of the Han family.
He took a deep breath and pressed the doorbell. He could hear Subin walk over to the door and a second later the door opened and his beautiful, cute crush was standing in front of him— with tears streaming down her face. Jisung was taken aback.
"Hi Jisung" Subin sniffled and wiped her tears. "Come in!" The teenager acted as if nothing happened and lead the confused Jisung into her flat. After taking off his disguise and sitting down on the leather couch in Subin's living room he took another look at her.
Subin walked towards the kitchen to grab something to eat and drink for the two of them. "Would you like ice in your coke?" She asked from the kitchen. "Yes please!" Jisung called back and looked around the tidy living room.
Over the massive television, framed pictures of Subin on different occasions. There was a picture of her christening, a picture of her first day at elementary, middle and high school. And there was a picture that looked pretty recent; it was Subin in her Brandnew Music hoodie with her ID in her hands and a bright smile on her lips.
Jisung smiled looking at that picture. It showed who Han Subin really was: the prodigy producer behind a lot of songs already. But something about Subin was off today. The fact that there were tears silently streaming down her face was worrying him.
But before he could continue the thought, Subin came back. She set the snacks and the drinks on the table and sat down next to the boy, who owned her heart. "Were there any complications on the way here?" Subin asked and gave a tired smile in Jisung's direction.
"Subin" Jisung started, "is it because of your friend?" Jisung tilted his head and watched another wave of tears stream down his crush's face. Subin nodded. "I can't get over the fact that she more or less dumped me. Our friendship doesn't exist anymore. I.. I'm so lonely." Subin started bawling her eyes out and Jisung gulped, before pulling her into a warm hug.
Subin leaned onto Jisung's shoulder and cried her heart out. "I wrote 'Best Friend' while thinking about you and Chenle, but also thinking about me and Yoobin. But now there is no 'Yoobin and me' anymore. There's just Yoobin. And she probably has a new best friend."
Subin cried waterfalls. There was no way she could stop crying. The hurt in the same-aged girl's chest was too much to bear. Jisung patted her back. He held her tight and softly rocked her from side to side. He wanted to show her, that she wasn't alone. She had him, Jaehyun and the other Dream members.
But Jisung also knew that, at the moment, nothing of that would calm down Subin or make her feel safe. She was sad since she lost her best friend about something she couldn't control. And Jisung knew it must feel like the world was against Subin.
At least that's how he felt, when Chenle started acting weird around him.
"Is it weird that losing her hurts more than the fact that she dragged my dream down the drain?" Subin suddenly asked and climbed out of Jisung's embrace. She wiped her cheeks with the sleeve of his arm and looked at Jisung.
"It's not" Jisung answered. "It's totally normal that the feeling of loss is bigger than any other emotion. Once you get over the initial pain, you'll start feeling mad that she said your dream is worthless." Jisung nodded and Subin smiled softly. "You know what, Jisung?" - "Hm?"
"You're really smart." The girl grinned up at the taller boy, that slightly blushed. "Oh, well... thank you?" He hid his face behind his hands and Subin chuckled.
"Yes."
"Hm?" Jisung looked over his hands at Subin. The girl had her hands on her own thighs and grinned up at him. Her cheeks were slightly tinted and her eyes sparkly—probably from the tears. She pressed her pink lips together and waited for a response from the boy.
"Yes" she repeated and leaned closer to Jisung. His heart started beating faster than ever and he nodded. "Yes?" He asked and Subin chuckled. "I would love to be your girlfriend." She answered and Jisung widened his eyes. "I let you wait for a very long time and I am really, really sorry about it." She grinned and moved even closer.
Her nose was slightly bumping against his and Jisung held his breath. "Do you still want me to be your girlfriend?" Subin asked and looked down at Jisung's pink lips. "Y-Yes!" His voice cracked and he hurried to close the gap between the two of them with a little, soft kiss.
Jisung's heart was beating out of his chest. He had a girlfriend.
A real girlfriend.
