01 play a life of lies
Five years had passed many found memories already have formed with the young family. For example his first day of preschool and the birthdays and Christmases with this new addition meant the world to these new parents, his dad was often off working hard to protect many people. There was not a day he didn't feel loved or a day that joy didn't seem to leap into the air, he did get injured and cry but his mom and dad always made things better.
"Phoenix dear, why don't you go play outside?" A young child looked up his wide innocent silver blue eyes looked up at her his hand holding a small toy car a small race track spiraled across his cream carpeted floor, "okay mommy!" The boy grinned toy car still tightly clutched in his milk chocolate hand. "Can Skyler come over to play too?" "Sure, she can and her brother too, what was his name?"
"Parker...I think. He doesn't talk to me much...but it is fun to race him!" Seeing this as approval his mother smiled ruffling his fluffy dark colored locks, "Mommy has to make a call. Have fun and be safe."
He nodded, "I promise, I'll be safe!" With that he darted outside flying his car making sound effects just enjoying being a kid. He always had such strange dreams at night that he never understood. Once he tried to think about what happened but it just made his head hurt. Sitting down in the grass he rolled around the soft texture of the grass kissed his skin. Abruptly his car flew from his hand and he gasped. "Oh no, mommy told me not to lose my toys." As he got up an uneasy feeling entered him as he searched around finally spotting the car a few inches on the road.
Without thinking he got up and ran towards it carefully picking it up. "I sorry, I didn't mean t-"
A sudden sharp sound erupted from above, a large van at the top of the hill barreled down towards him by the time the child looked up his mother screamed then pain and darkness.
"My baby got run over by a car! Please hurry!" She sobbed into the phone cradling the small child in her arms blood seeping out of two head wounds and many parts of his small body looked broken, absolutely crushed...
"Hold on baby! P-please.....stay strong....for mommy....you have always been my little fighter."
"What happened to Phoenix..? Is he sleeping?" A young girl voice asked looking up at her older brother who quickly covered her eyes. He was silent trying not to have a negative reaction as to not let his sister get hurt. "Yeah he'll be fine....r-right?" His voice quivered a little at the end despite all his attempts to hold it in.
"Bubby is something wrong?" She was four...what was he supposed to say? He was ten, he was older and tougher...but he also knew that his little sister's friend was not sleeping...
Red and blue lights lit up in the pale blue cloudless sky loud whaling breaking the sleepy silence of the community broken terribly everyone was shaken as the ambulance drove away with the mother and her child holding onto any hope the boy would survive.
The mother clutched her child's hand crying while the doctors did what they could trying to calm her down trying to not make promises they couldn't keep.
So many injuries at once for such a young boy.... the odds weren't in their favor.
Speeding to the ER hope with his pulse and fragile breathing being all they could hold onto to he had so much more he could do. He can't die here...not now.
He wasn't done....not yet....right?
Time seemed to blur and weave together as she waited her husband bursted through the doors still in his police uniform he quickly made his way to his wife grabbing her hands, "babe, what happened?"
"....P-Phoenix...got ran over-I-I shouldn't have told him...to go o-outside and play!"
"Honey this is not your fault, please hang in our son is strong he should make it..."
"You didn't see what he looked like!" She looked down at the ground, "...this is all my fault, if only-"
"I told you-this is not your fault."
It didn't take long and a doctor came out his expression somber as he gestured for them to come follow him dread set in as they shuffled along side the doctor parting from prying eyes into a private room.
"We've tried everything...." he paused shaking his head, "but his injuries are too serious...he died during surgery...I am sorry for your loss."
Both parents broke down holding each other close...what had happened was a tragedy...such a young life lost....
At least he won't be suffering but now what? That dose not help anyone....
Darkness pulled downward ripping through the scene falling falling spiraling.
This felt familiar as a scream belted around echoing around him.
"...wait I know that scream..."
A loud crash soon greeted the room and the light marched towards it.
"You again?" He sighed, "five years and you die again."
"Again?" He squeaked suddenly not looking at all like a five year old.
"Yes again!" The light appeared to put a hand to his face, "I wish I could have told you about the Wolves....alright no matter." He clapped his hands together, "basic summery Phoenix, your soul is refusing to die so I put you in a vessel to finish your mission but people are out to kill you constantly, supernatural evils called Wolves, they won't stop killing you until you either achieve your goal or they kill you the same way you first died."
"Wait what-"
"Sorry I cannot explain everything I am sending you into an older vessel an eighteen year old male who's soul is about to go home good luck. July 21, interesting well that's your true birthday, live your life of lies now Phoenix."
Bright light blinded him before he could spit out any questions it was time for a restart.
A loud gasp left his lungs as he sat up his eyes scanned around pale sky blue walls greeted his vision as it slowly came into focus.
"Thank God!" An unknown female threw her arms around him, "I'd thought you'd never wake up Phoenix!" He looked at her puzzled but slowly some information slid back into place the longer he looked at her, "mom...? Where am-what happened?"
"Don't ever scare me like that again!" She told him, "comma for two weeks! You know how many gray hairs you gave me!"
"...enough to make you an old lady?" He cracked a tired joking smile.
"Are you calling me old?"
"Noooo?" A teasing tone slipped into his words as his eyes crackled with his smile. He could have sworn something else had happened... thoughts buzzed in his head that didn't seem to be his own warnings advice... what had actually happened to him?
