6 Steps Closer
(Phil's POV)
I had time. I'm sure I could squeeze in a shower into my schedule before Dan arrived. Did I have time? I definitely did.
After my shower, I dried and styled my hair. I stared at my hair that was beginning to touch the tip of my collar and decided that I was in need of a hair cut. I looked at the clock and decided I had enough time to sort my hair out. I got my scissors out of my drawer, staring at the blades for a while, smiling. Just as I have done for almost two years, I cut my hair into the fringe I wanted. After that, I brushed my hair and styled it properly before cleaning up my mess.
"Knock, knock."
Shit, Dan's here. I have to get to the door before my mum did. I raced down the stairs only to hear the door open.
"Oh uhh... Hi, Mrs. Lester. Is Phil here?" I heard Dan ask, awkwardness dripping from his voice. My mother nodded and opened the door as she answered,"Oh, yes. She's upstairs, in her room."
I heard Dan sigh before saying ok. He looked over and saw me, a frown growing on his face. It soon melted into a sad smile however as he asked,"Ready?" I nodded and we started to exit the house as my mother asked,"Where are you two going? Is he your boyfriend, Phillipa?"
"No Mum, he's just a friend. He and I are going to... hang out with two other people," I answered, trying to give as vague an answer I could give. She stared at me skeptically for a while before she nodded,"Okay. Have fun, dear." Dan and I waved goodbye before I closed the door behind us.
"She's not always that nice, is she?" Dan begun and I asked,"No, how could you tell?" He frowned again as he said,"It looked very forced." I shared his expression as I explained,"Yeah it was, she hates me and she doesn't support me."
"It's okay, you have me, PJ and Chris. We all support you, Phil. No matter what happens, I'll always be here for you," Dan smiled comfortingly, his speech warming up my heart and I replied,"Thanks, Dan. That means the world to me." He grinned that kind of grin that said everything and nothing all at once and it made me feel happy.
"Of course."
We got into the car and he started driving. He didn't live that far away me so it didn't take long to get to his house. Once we got there, Chris and PJ were already there, ready to go.
"Come on Phil," Dan gestured for me to follow so I did as I was told and followed him to his room. We entered and he grabbed something off of his bed, holding it out to me,"Here, you can use my bathroom to change."
I nodded and made my way to his bathroom. He had claimed the master bedroom with the bathroom. The story of how that happened wasn't as interesting as I though it would be. Chris, Dan, and their old roommate - who's name I had already long forgotten - fought over the room for about an hour before they played rock paper scissors to see who would get it. Dan won so he got the room. Chris came in second so he got the second best and the other guy got the smallest but he moved out a year ago.
After I finished changing. I realized something, I couldn't get my binder wet. Shit, I didn't think this far, what was I supposed to do? This was the only proper binder I had, and there was no way I was going to go back to using bandages.
"Knock knock."
"I almost forgot, I got you something," Dan said through the door and I asked, hiding the worry in my voice,"What is it?" He cracked the door open just enough for his head to fit in. In his hand was a package. I reached forward and grabbed it and he shut the door.
"Open it!" he said. I could practically hear the grin on his face and I laughed,"Okay, okay." I opened the package and pulled out the paper that was on the inside and it read:
NEW FROM UNDERWORKS.
Our new water proof full tank binders
Made with out new fabric for the perfect flatting look.
He got me a waterproof binder? That was so thoughtful, and I didn't even ask him to get me one.
"Dan, you shouldn't have!"
"It's okay, I — a friend of mine who is trans bought it just before he found out he was have top surgery. I asked if I could have it for a friend and he gave it to me," Dan explained and I couldn't stop grinning as I pulled on the binder,"Thank you so much, Dan! This is amazing!"
"Come on, hurry up! Get changed and meet me in the living room."
"Okay!"
I quickly got changed and made my way into the living room. Chris looked up from his phone and asked,"Everyone good to go?" He glanced pointedly at Dan who looked away, sighing lightly.
"Yeah, let's go."
"Shotgun!" I called, and PJ rolled his eyes and joked,"Your first swimming outing with us and you're already calling shotgun. What a disgrace." Everyone laughed at the joke and we all headed out, getting into Dan's car. Dan drove and I got in the passenger seat, PJ and Chris sitting in the back. The drive was short and we all talked about everything until we arrived. Once we were there, we all went to the trunk.
"Phil, we have to leave our towels and stuff in the trunk so people don't steal them," PJ explained, lifting the hood of the trunk. I nodded and put my towel, phone and wallet into the back, everyone else following suit. I looked over to Dan who seemed to be nervous though I wasn't sure why. I hope he would tell me what was worrying him.
(Dan's POV)
I was nervous and I knew Phil could tell, but thankfully he didn't question it. I looked over to Chris and PJ who just gave me encouraging smiles. I quickly slipped my shirt off and threw it in the back as PJ and Chris did the same thing. I looked to them and they got the hint.
"The slides look real cool. Chris and I'll head up first. Catch up, okay?" Chris said and I gave him thumbs up to signal our agreement and the duo quickly left. Phil turned around and looked at me with a smile until it dropped slightly.
"Dan?"
I inhaled heavily before I asked,"Yes?"
"If you don't mind me asking... What happened to your chest?" he asked. He was trying his best to not sound intrusive or rude and I appreciated it a lot. It fueled me with encouragement to finish this.
"Yeah, I was hoping you would ask. They're... top surgery scars."
