Chapter 3: Jimin

"Why does he have to come over for fucking dinner?" I complained.

"Language," my mother scolded. "And we're inviting your tutor to dinner to thank him for agreeing to help you. I saw some of your homework, and it looked much better, sweetheart." I grumbled a little; but smiled at her words. Was I doing better.

"Mom, where are the good glasses at?" Bogum asked curiously.

"Above the sink," my mother reassured. "Jimin, why don't you be a good boy and go help him set the table while I finish cooking? Yoongi should be here soon." I sighed heavily and dragged myself over to the counter to grab plates before I set the table. Bogum came over and placed glasses at all of our seats.

"Thanks for ruining my life," I whispered.

"Jimin, you needed the help," my brother mumbled. "I just recommended someone fantastic from school. Hell, he was up at the top of the class most of the time."

"He's an ass," I said with a huff.

"But you're getting better, aren't you?" he pointed out with a smile.  "Jimin just gets better in school and you won't have to worry about him being around too long."

"Fine," I said, giving up on the argument. "I'll get better, and then he'll go away." The doorbell rang suddenly.

"Go answer that," my mother insisted as she stirred something on the stove.

"I'll get it," Bogum reassured. "You just finish up with the table." I nodded, slightly messed with a napkin.

I just needed to get passing grades. Then Yoongi would never have to tutor me again. That couldn't be that hard, right?

"Thank you so much for inviting me to dinner," Yoongi said with a pleasant smile as he sipped from his glass. "And this food is amazing."

"I'm glad you enjoyed it," my mother said with a hum.

"My brother giving you trouble when you tutor him?" Bogum asked suddenly. "He can be stubborn."

"He's... opening up," Yoongi said, gazing at me. "It's natural for him to be a little shy at first, but he'll warm up to me soon enough."

"Sure," I said, moving my food around with my chopsticks. I had every opportunity to blurt out every single thing he'd done so far. But... I didn't. I couldn't. I did not know why, but I could not say a single word about what was happening.

"He's already making progress with his English," Yoongi praised. "It takes a little more work, but he's doing better."

"That's amazing," my mother said happily. "Oh, honey, you've always struggled with that class. It's so good to hear that you're doing better." I smiled at her words. It made me feel good to see her happy about my schoolwork.

"Mom, I'm going to head out," Bogum said, getting up suddenly. "I'm supposed to walk someone home from the café."

"Be safe," my mother said with a nod. I saw a frown on Yoongi's face before it vanished, replaced with his pleasant smile again.

Oh... oh, no. That's why he kept bringing up my brother when we were together. I bit my lip and pushed my plate away.

"Can I excuse me?" I asked with a soft breath. "Please?"

"What's wrong, honey?" my mother asked with concern.

"I want to get started on my homework," I said, adjusting a little.

"You want some help?" Yoongi offered. "You mentioned that you had a history report to work on." I thought about it before I nodded. "Let me help clean up, and I'll be up there soon."

~~~~
"World War," Yoongi said as he looked over my assignment packet for history class. "Japanese rule in Korea. That's a bug report."
"It was slim pickings," I admitted as I dug out my textbook. "Everyone else got all the good stuff."
"This is good stuff," he reassured. "You just have to find the right research. You want an excellent subject?"
"Please," I said, looking at him curiously.
"Women," he blurted.
"Women?" I said, blinking a few times
"Look up, comfort women," he encouraged. "I reported on it myself. It was the only perfect in the class." I thought about it a little before I scribbled it down on a piece of paper.
"Comfort women," I mumbled. "What did they do? Comfort people? Please soldiers?"
"Do your research, and you'll find out," he said, shrugging a little.  "It's an enjoyable learning experience. You'll find out some pretty interesting stuff. It's something, that's for sure. And make sure you find reputable sources, alright? Don't cheat and use that Wikipedia bullshit."
"Are you going to spank me if I do?" I asked before I could stop myself. He chuckled at that.
"Looking forward to it?" he teased softly. I huffed and leaned back in my chair. "Put in the effort and do this report properly.  Rough draft, revision, the whole affair."
"Or?" I said, crossing my arms as I gazed at him.
"Or I'll do a lot more than spank you," he breathed. I frowned,
" What if... if I do better, what's the reward?" I asked.
"You'll receive a reward." He replies, caging me between his arms. "That'll drive you crazy, making you wanting more." I felt a lip in my hair.
"Yoongi... I want that reward.." I gasp when his lips travel down to my neck.
"Japanese colonial rule from 1910 to 1945, it was a deeply ambivalent experience for Koreans. On the one hand, Japanese colonialism was often quite harsh. For the first ten years, Japan ruled directly through the military, and any Korean dissent ruthlessly crushed. After a nationwide protest against Japanese colonialism that began on March 1, 1919, Japanese rule relaxed somewhat, allowing a limited freedom of expression for Koreans." He types all of his saying like a book transferring to my laptop. " Despite the often oppressive and heavy-handed rule of the Japanese authorities, many recognizably modern aspects of Korean society emerged or grew considerably during the 35-year period of colonial rule. These included rapid urban growth, the expansion of commerce, and forms of mass culture such as radio and cinema, which became widespread for the first time. Industrial development also took place, partly encouraged by the Japanese colonial state, although primarily to enrich Japan and fight the wars in China and the Pacific rather than benefit the Koreans themselves. Such uneven and distorted development left a mixed legacy for the peninsula after the colonial period ended. By the time of the Japanese surrender in August 1945, Korea was the second-most industrialized nation in Asia after Japan itself But the wartime mobilization of 1937-45 had reintroduced harsh measures to Japanese colonial rule, as Koreans we're forced to work in Japanese factories and sent as soldiers to the front. They drafted tens of thousands of young Korean women as "Comfort Women" - in effect, sexual slaves - for Japanese soldiers. In 1939, the colonial authorities even pressured Koreans to change their names to Japanese names, and over 80 percent of the Koreans complied with the name-change ordinance.." When I heard him type the comfort women. I felt a shiver throughout my spine. "You're trembling, is there a word that makes you uncomfortable?." He blows my earlobe.
"T-the Comfort women.." I strumming my word but it can't.
"Looks like my student wants a live demo, how it about this topic... Now Park Jimin let's begin your report."
