Chapter 30 - Departure to Romania
Within just 2 days, we found a former police officer who was looking for a new job as a private detective. We found his ad on a job board on the internet and contacted him. On the same day he came to our office and we had a long conversation.
The 43 year old former police officer had quit his job after being shot in the line of duty and he realized that he couldn't and wouldn't continue like this, if only because of his family. He quit and took an expensive training course to become a private detective. Better than my training course! But so far he hadn't found a job in a private detective agency. And he couldn't afford to open one himself.
After Ray checked all his documents and they were all correct, I offered Binyun Tang a job with me. And he accepted my offer with thanks. We took care of all the paperwork like his employment contract the same day and Ray then registered him as my new employee and registered him to my insurance company.
I now have a representative for me when I am not there. And Binyun Tang is very grateful for me giving him a chance. Apparently, he had been rejected repeatedly before because he is already 43 years old. But for me, it's not the age that matters, but his experience and ability!
Zhan applied for a 3-month visa to Romania for us in a fast-track procedure. Since he was applying as a historian and claims me as his assistant, it was no problem and within 48 hours the visa was approved.
Since I had my passport renewed only this year, I didn't have to worry about that either. When Zhan asked me why I had a passport even though I've never traveled, I said, "I always hoped my brother or parents would invite me over." Sad but true. Whereas parents is not quite true. I have waited if then for an invitation from my father, since my mother shows no interest in me anyway, since she is newly married and became a mother again.
When we asked the twins if they could take care of Yizhan while we were away, they immediately agreed. And since I don't want Yizhan to get used to a new environment, we asked the twins to stay with him in our apartment. Grandpa Xiao immediately liked the idea because he also wants the twins to be safe. Because they should not be around in case of a possible war between the black werewolves and the vampires.
All the full-blooded packs, like Zhan's, will also stay out of a possible war. They just want to make sure that no humans get hurt or killed. Besides, they are still trying to find the hiding place of the black werewolves and decimate them a bit. The same goes for the vampires, of which more and more are appearing here. They hope to prevent a war or at least delay it.
The night before we left for Romania, Grandpa Xiao came to visit us with the twins. He brought them and had dinner with us. Afterwards we sat in the living room where Grandpa Xiao told a few stories about himself as a young man and wolf, and at some point we got onto the subject of Zhan.
He said: "At that time, everyone was waiting for Zhan to be born. But he took his time. His birth was already 9 days overdue, when his mother started to have strong contractions. It was immediately clear to us that we would not make it to the hospital. So we prepared everything for a home birth. And only one and a half hours after the onset of labor, Zhan was born. We all wanted to greet him, of course. So we all stood around his mother's bed and when Zhan opened his eyes and saw us, maybe out of fright, he turned into a little wolf. Just an hour after he was born! And he did not change back to his human form for three years. He was very shy and always hid in the smallest and furthest corners he could find. His parents were already quite desperate and did not understand what was going on with the boy. And then shortly after his third birthday, his parents had to leave and left the little wolf to me. I pretended that he was not there at all, until at some point he curiously came to me all by himself. He built up a relationship of trust with me and finally, after 2 weeks, he transformed into his human form before my eyes. And then he even spoke to me and asked me >>Grandpa, why do you have gray hair?<< I was so amazed to hear him talk that I just looked at him speechless."
"So he didn't even turn for three years?" I asked.
"Yes, he did. As it turned out, he transformed into his human form whenever he was alone. So he learned to walk on two legs and also to talk. But after he turned in front of me, he stayed in his human form most of the time and that's how the pack really got to know him. I had once asked him why he didn't want to look like a human. And Zhan explained to me, as small as he was, that he felt more comfortable as a wolf and liked his white fur so much that he always wanted to look like one."
"Hahaha, how cute."
"Yes very. He was just proud to be a white wolf from the beginning."
"I would be too."
Grandpa Xiao: "So, what's your plan now? You guys are going to Romania tomorrow and then?"
Zhan: "Then we want to go to the place in Transylvania where I found the book in which the legend was. I hope we can find more books or clues to the legend."
Me: "Yes, and we want to find out how the white wolf managed to bond with the vampire and live as long as the vampire."
Grandpa Xiao: "You guys certainly have a lot of work ahead of you. But I'm sure it won't be boring either. I hope you find your answers."
Zhan: "We hope so too. Besides, we are planning to mate."
Grandpa Xiao: "Oh wow, this is a big and important step for you. Maybe you will find the answers to the legends before then."
Zhan: "Why can't I get rid of the impression that you know something about the legends?"
Me: "Yes, it seems that way to me too."
Grandpa Xiao: "Well to be honest I have heard more rumors about the white wolf and the vampire. Rumors or stories that are passed down from generation to generation. But where no one ever knows what is true and what is not."
Zhan: "What are these rumors?"
Grandpa Xiao: "Basically all rumors or stories tell the same thing. That only an alliance between a white wolf and a vampire can bring peace among the creatures of the night."
Zhan: "Mhhh, so either nothing specific or you can't/won't tell us."
Grandpa Xiao: "A little bit of everything. I don't want to tell you these rumors and stories yet because they might steer you in a wrong direction in your search for the truth."
Me: "So you want us to keep an open mind."
Grandpa Xiao: "Exactly."
Zhan: "All right. It might be better that way, too."
Zhan and I were thinking the same thing. If Grandpa Xiao doesn't want to say anything, there must be a good reason. Therefore, we didn't ask any further and left it at that. Instead, he told me a few more exciting stories about himself and his youth. Grandpa Xiao is really impressive. He took over the leadership of the pack when he was just 17 years old. A very big responsibility for such a young man.
While we were talking, the twins made themselves comfortable in our guest room and played with Yizhan. But then Yizhan wanted to come back to me. I wonder if he feels that we are going to leave him for a while. He had been so affectionate all day. This makes it even harder for me to say goodbye to him tomorrow.
After saying goodbye to Grandpa Xiao, we also went to sleep. The twins had been asleep for a long time and it was already late. As we lay in bed talking about the evening and cuddling with Yizhan, I had to think about what Grandpa Xiao didn't want to tell us.
We accepted that he didn't tell us anything, but somehow we both had a strange feeling that couldn't be put into words. What will we find out? What will we find out about the legend?
In the morning when the alarm clock rang, Zhan and I first took a shower and then had breakfast. This was then my last ration of blood from a blood bag for the time being. After all, I can't take it with me on the plane. In the coming days, Zhan will let me drink his blood until we meet a blood dealer in Romania, with whom we have already made contact. What things exist. I am always amazed.
At 9 am it was time to say goodbye to Yizhan. The little guy looked at me sadly and meowed heartbreakingly. Maybe I was just imagining it because I was suffering so much from saying goodbye to my baby. I must have cried until we arrived at the airport. I really miss my baby Yizhan. *sob*
Since we were flying abroad, we had to be at the airport a whole three hours early. But when it finally started, I was very nervous. Because it was my first flight ever. And we had tickets for first class!
The closer it got to the start of the takeoff, the more nervous I became. I held Zhan's hand very tightly as it took off. It was a really strange feeling inside me when we took off. But after a short time, it passed and I slowly calmed down.
We slept most of the time on the flight. And when we weren't sleeping, we were talking about our plans together, like mating, getting married, and also about the possible move to the apartment next to my office. We were very relaxed.
It didn't get exciting for me again until the pilot started to land. I held Zhan's hand tightly again and closed my eyes until Zhan told me we landed safely. But that was not the end of our journey. Because then we went on by bus. And in it we spent a whole day and night. That was anything but nice.
Cramped constantly sitting, while around us many other travelers sat, ate and had different smells. But thanks to Zhan and his blood, I almost didn't mind. Only a very little bit still it was stressful for me. But absolutely bearable.
After this long journey we finally reached our first destination, a cute little hotel. Here we stay now two days, before we are picked up by a guide and brought to our next destination.
The first thing we did was take a long hot shower and then lay down in bed. It felt heavenly to be in a bed again. Zhan told me to take advantage of it since we won't always stay this comfortable. I don't mind it at all. I was just happy for now not to be on the bus anymore and to be able to make myself long and wide in bed.
Tomorrow Zhan wants to take me for a walk. He wants to show me the place and the surroundings here. But for now, let's get some sleep. I can hardly keep my eyes open. Ah, I miss Yizhan. But at least I have Zhan to snuggle up to. Good night, see you tomorrow!
Did you already wait for the update? I didn't get around to it yesterday because we had unexpected visitors. Our visitors are just on the road and therefore I could quickly write the update.
