22 Tricked Again
POV Toothiana
Everyone returned to the base after spending time however they wanted during the holidays. The first of January brought everyone back and to the normal routines. We've been training with the trainees who are soon going to receive their new ranks as soldiers when they pass the winter exam.
That's only if they pass because it's under surveillance of Jack who surely won't let anyone go easy. Sometimes we have to train in cold conditions under his restriction, that's why Bunnymund gets so grumpy. I mean he is from Australia and not used to the cold but we've all managed from it. The idea of it is to survive as a team which the Private's need to realize.
"Oi, Tooth," Bunny called me. I was just cleaning up my double swords which I use when I feel like it.
"Hi," I smile to him and I place the blades down. I flicker my wings in air as I fly to him and he catches me to his embrace.
"Umm... what if someone sees us," Bunny looks around worryingly.
"By someone you mean?" I insisted and raised my eyebrow.
"Frostbutt. You know that he always searches for something to mess with me," Bunny muttered and let me go down.
I nod my head and grin, "Sounds like him. In any case, did you have something to say to me or why you searched me?"
"Colonel Moon wants everyone to communications room," Bunny whispered and my eyes widened.
"New mission?" I said quietly and I began following him.
"Yeah, new lead. Crikey, I hope that this time it won't be disaster," Bunny exhaled and looks at me. His eyes filled with worry, last time I was wounded quite badly.
"Stop looking at me like that," I laughed and patted his shoulder. He chuckled a bit and gave me a faint smile.
We went to office building in silence. Both of us were probably just trying to think what we would deal with next. Where we would go and for how long.
Jack was sitting on the edge of the table in the corner. His arms were crossed over his chest and he was deep in his thoughts. There was already a map and information screened to the white board, Bunny and I were the last ones to arrive. Sandy and North were sitting on chairs that were put in horseshoe formation and we sat next to them.
"Now that everyone is here I need to explain your mission for this weekend. We've heard from our sources that Pitch Black and the still anonymous members of the organization which he is working for have moved their location into here," Colonel Moon said and patted the map with a stick.
"So we go there and gather information or what?" North questioned. He was the oldest of us, even a bit older than Colonel Moon. They had been friends since they both joined military ages ago.
"I vote for killing everyone," Jack spoke coldly from the corner. I look behind and see the hatred swirling around him like a poisoning presence.
"No. You capture them alive," Colonel Moon raised his voice and gave Jack an angry glare. It was like a father was lecturing his son and actually, that's how it is. Jack is his son and nothing can change it.
Jack groaned and moved restlessly. He wasn't satisfied with that solution.
"We need to interrogate them and find out what their goal is. You know that there have been security breaches in some of the military testing laboratories. Something is up and I trust in you, the Guardians even though your actions are officially buried by now. As before the military doesn't know your existence and therefore can't help you out in tight situation," Colonel Moon spoke. I could tell that he wasn't happy about us being without any possibility to get aid if we get into trouble.
"So when do we leave?" Bunny asked.
"Tonight in exactly two hours from now and return on Sunday. Next week there will be some checkups on bases of military to make sure they work correctly. It would be bad if every Captain is missing. Understood?," Colonel Moon sighed.
"Sir, yes, sir!" Everyone shouted in unison. Then he told us to dismiss.
I told Bunny to go ahead and I stayed behind. Jack noticed my action and he joined me.
"What now?" Jack nearly growled at me.
"You should give your Private's weekend off like we do. And remember, don't do anything stupid on the mission. Even though you don't value your life, we do," I spoke to him.
"Now you sound like my mom Tooth--," Jack sighed and glanced at me with a smile, "—I don't plan on dying before I've taken my revenge. However Private Arendelle will stay at base. You remember how they knew that she might be my new partner in field? She's much safer here and Colonel Moon said that he would keep an eye on her."
"I see," I smiled to Jack and then I ran to fetch my things.
On Saturday night we were gathering around a small house with lights on. This time we are securing every side and communications are on. We had been keeping an eye on the location since yesterday. There had not been any movement in and out from the house. Now it is time to put the mission in to action.
"Jack, are you ready?" North called. The plan was that Jack shoots the light off and we use night goggles to proceed.
"I am ready when you are," Jack replied. He was on the opposite side of the building. On my right was Bunny and on my left was North.
Everyone whispered that they're ready.
"Fire," North ordered Jack.
"Roger," Jack mumbled.
Now we just waited and we all put on night goggles.
A loud sound of Jack's sniper rifle echoed. He took a close range shot and clearly wouldn't miss.
"THESE ARE FUCKING DUMMY ROUNDS!" Jack shouted into the radio but the lights went off anyway. And I can't see a thing.
"My night goggles don't work," I gulped.
"Enemy!" Bunny roared and I heard shots. "CRIKEY! Dummy rounds here too!"
"Fall back!" Jack shouted. Quickly I took my flashlight and I managed to see how dark shadows began coming outside from the house. It's like we're lured into a trap again.
"Use your own abilities and take your flashlights. New transport location: code Palace," I spoke fast as I ran.
Then I flew into air. It seems like we were given fake ammunition, faulty night goggles. We have a traitor in military.
I took my sable like blades that I swung towards the black thing. It was the same as before but this one knew how to gallop through air, a stallion made from some sort of black substance. It was clearly the doings of Pitch.
Once I had beaten the beast I look down. Jack was running through the forest with Sandy. I saw them down, the shadows were following them. They just need to keep moving for five more minutes until we're in our secret evacuation point. A place that we came up during our flight to here.
"North. Is the Sleigh called?" I spoke through radio.
"Yes. Bunny, boomerang that ones ass!" North groaned.
Now I saw them. They were much closer to the Palace. They had much less of shadows following them compared to Jack and Sandy.
"Hurry up Sandy! Jack!" I yelled. I saw how Phil was flying the sleigh to the location.
"Go ahead," Jack said and I look down. He threw his gun to ground and turns around to face the three shadow like creatures that were following them. He stood in front of them with his legs apart and then he used his powers. He threw a snow storm at them which turned into avalanche.
"That's gonna keep them for a while. Is everyone in the meeting point. Tooth?" Jack panted out.
I look at the Sleigh that just landed. North and Bunny climbed in and Sandy just arrived to the snowy glade.
"Yes, hurry," I whispered.
Jack began running fast with the wind as his aid now since he didn't have to hold it back for helping Sandy. I flew into the Sleigh and then we pulled Sandy inside. That's when Jack arrived to the wide area from the treeline.
"You're being followed mate!" Bunny shouted when one shadow horse was galloping after Jack. It was reaching him, we pointed the lights of the Sleigh towards Jack and yelled him to run faster.
Bunny threw his boomerang but the horse dodged it. Then I saw for my horror how the horse changed. It flickered in the air, it was like black sand was floating in the air and forming into something else. A figure began appearing. This horse was different.
"Frost," a voice we all knew yelled. It made Jack stop, he was clearly in shock.
"NO JACK! KEEP GOING!" I screamed and I got out from the Sleigh but I was too late.
Pitch Black used the situation to his advantage, I saw how he whipped something in the air and it flew over Jacks shoulder and stabbed his side, then staying in him. Jack shouted in pain and fell to his knees, I heard the laughter of Pitch.
"Bunny," I begged. He had already aimed his boomerang and this time it hit. Sandy rushed to Jack who was holding on to a pick axe looking black thing that was still sticking on him.
I go to Sandy and Jack while Bunny catch his boomerang. North was guarding our transport. Pitch had vanished from the scene when the boomerang hit him.
Sandy stopped me when I was about to touch the weapon that was hurting Jack. He just shook his head and then touched the pick axe. It turned from black to gold and then it vanished.
"Thanks," Jack panted out. He had cold sweat on his forehead and he was wobbly when we got him standing. Now we rushed to the Sleigh that immediately took off when we got inside.
"How are you holding up mate?" Bunny asked from Jack who was pressing a piece of clothing against his wound.
"Better. It isn't deep," Jack mumbled and leaned against the wall.
"Just tell us if something is wrong?" I whispered in shock. The weapon had totally paralyzed Jack who couldn't do a thing when it hit him.
Sandy began scribbling something down and we all waited.
"Nightmare sand?" Bunny whispered when he read the note Sandy had done. Sandy nodded.
"You managed to change it? I insisted.
Sandy began writing again. 'Yes. This is what Pitch had been experimenting on it seems. He borrowed some of my dream sand when he was still working for the good cause.'
"This is bad. I feel it in my belly," North exhaled.
"See? We should just kill him and the whole bunch," Jack said sarcastically and coughed a bit. Everyone glanced at him worryingly.
"I'm fine!" Jack raised his voice and lifted his hands up.
"We need to tell this to Colonel Moon," North said and stroked his beard. He is right.
"Don't forget to mention that someone had toyed with our equipment," I say and cross my arms. We were nearly back at the base now.
"Mmm... true... Dummy rounds, not functioning night goggles. And we were clearly waited," Jack wondered aloud.
"I'll go to him right away when we're back," North said and hit his fist to his hand when he had made up his mind.
POV Elsa
"Wake up," Hiro whispered close to my ear. He was pushing me to be awake. Everyone had arrived back to base yesterday evening after their holiday. I spent the weekend with Shawn, we were seeing some sights in the city to kill time. He is really against military actions but he accepts the fact that I'm still here even though I nearly quit.
"What?" I mumbled and blink my eyes open.
"The Captains are back. The morning checkup?" Hiro gasped and I quickly got up and dressed. We had learned to get up just before they would play the morning melody through speakers. That's how we don't end up running laps with only our underwear on.
My heart nearly jumped out from my throat when I began getting ready. I barely managed to put my boots on when I heard someone walking up the steps and to our barrack door.
"Attention!" Captain Frost shouted when he smashed the door open. He was clearly not in a good mood.
Everyone ran in front of their bed bunks and stood still. Captain began walking in front of us strictly, checking our position, how we had done the beds and equipped ourselves. This is far different from the time when Jack...Captain was at my kingdom, as my bodyguard.
Captain Frost walks to the door and turns around. His eyes wander around the barrack and I took my chance to glance at him. However my glance turns into longer one when I see a cut above his right eyebrow as well as his lower lip. There are black circles around his eyes and something has clearly happened while he was gone.
Then he sees me, notices my staring and I gasp when our eyes meet. His frowned eyes widen a bit from surprise and his cheeks got a slight shade of pink for small moment. Then he changed, he gritted his teeth together and turns sharply towards me. His boots hit the ground strongly and he walks straight in front of me, I was too late to look back forward.
"What the fuck are you staring at Private Arendelle?" He shouted at me and my heart ached. I wasn't able to reply before he continued. "Haven't you learned anything during your training idiot! Eyes forward. Go to run around the base for three times before breakfast. Thank Private Arendelle. Rest of day clean up your weapons and go to gym. At ease!" Captain Frost yelled and left from the barrack.
"Wow. Why did you dare to look at him?" Hiccup whistled and got his winter coat.
"I think that something happened when the Captains were out," I tried to explain nervously as we approached the door. Eugene was cursing by himself.
"Didn't anyone else notice?" I raised my voice. "His face looked beaten up," I insisted.
"Well no one else dared to look at him," Hiro smiled faintly. We began jogging around the base and Eugene mumbled curses louder. It was a really cold morning in January.
At lunch everyone was grateful because it was soup day. When you run in the cold it is nice to have a bowl of hot chicken soup at lunch.
"Gosh I'm hungry!" Hiccup cheered and had his portion before me.
"Aren't you always?" I laugh aloud as I got my portion and I lift up my tray to follow after him.
"Oh shut up and find us a table!" Eugene chuckled behind us.
Hiccup found a table and was walking towards it. In the Mess building there were three food stations for trainees and one more for superiors. I see how Captain Frost is going towards his table.
"Here!" Hiccup yelled and I let Eugene go first because I got stuck behind one other person.
When I began walking again I stumbled into something.
"Ah!" I shouted when I fell, the tray flew from my hands and I heard laughing on my right. Someone did it on purpose.
Next I heard a loud gasp and saw how the hot soup flew straight into Captain Frost's back. He stood still for a moment, clearly breathing in and out.
"WHAT THE FUCK!" Captain Frost yelled angrily and made the whole building go silent. He turned around sharply and stared at me while I was still on my knees. I look to my right and I see how Gaston from Bunny' squad is trying not to laugh so hardly. His foot is still not fully under the table.
Captain Frost saw who I was looking at and then he narrowed his eyes. He slammed his tray to Gaston's table and took a hold of Gaston's shirt.
"You were the motherfucker who made her fall?" Captain Frost hissed.
"C-captain, no I wouldn't do such a thing," Gaston laughed nervously.
"Don't you fucking lie to me," Captain Frost snapped.
"I did," Gaston said quickly and whimpered.
That's when Captain Frost punched him and threw him to ground. Then he turns around to see me again.
"Get up Private," Captain Frost ordered. I did as he told and then I look at him worryingly.
"What?" He hissed as he lifted his tray back up.
"You didn't get burned badly?" I say nervously and I lift up his shirt quickly. People began whispering around us.
"Let go!" Captain Frost shouted in surprise and squirmed free. He was staring at me in shock. I managed to see a glimpse of his back, it was a bit pink but not burned at all.
Then he sighed and handed his tray to me. "Here, have this. I'm not even hungry... and... I cooled down the soup when I felt the heat on my back," he mumbled quietly and left. I saw how he took an energy bar from his pocket and got out from the Mess building.
I go to sit with the others.
"Whoa... that was weird," Hiro whistled.
"Mmh.." I sighed and put the spoon in the soup which I began mixing. He gave me his own food and then just left. Something is wrong.
"Hey... that looks way better than ours," Eugene gasped and pointed at my tray. There was more chicken in the soup and as dessert was chocolate cupcake instead of the pudding we trainees get.
"You can have the cupcake if you want," I muttered.
"Nah. It's yours Elsa and since that jerk made you fall you certainly deserve something good," Eugene grinned and patted my shoulder. I gave him a faint smile before I began eating.
It was afternoon when I came out from the gym. I decided to practice alone this time, to clear my mind. Captain Frost has been avoiding me since we got back to the base and if we bump into each other he doesn't speak to me for long. It is like he wants to deny that something happened between us during holidays and then again to hide what happened on weekend. Because something has clearly happened, it's not like you get beaten up when you have some free time. Unless you're a troublemaker. Agh! I don't know. He is so complicated...
"Private Arendelle?" I heard myself being called and I turn around.
I flinched when I saw Colonel Moon standing behind me. Immediately I saluted him but he told me to be at ease.
"So now I found you. Heading to shower?" He asked.
"Yes sir. Why were you looking for me?" I questioned while I squeezed my towel in my hands.
"We need to discuss about few things alone. Come to office building when you're done," he smiled and looks at me curiously. I felt embarrassed by the way I was looking.
After taking the shower and drying up my hair I headed to the office building. Colonel Moon called me in immediately to his office and nervousness was overtaking my body. My feet felt so heavy when I dragged myself inside his office and closed the door. He pointed me to sit in front of his desk.
I sat opposite to him and he kept on smiling and tapped his hand on the desk. I took eye contact with him but I felt nervous. However I can't help to notice how much Jack looks like his father, it is like I'm staring into Jack's eyes but... still his eyes are different.
"Are you wondering why I summoned you?" He threw the question at me.
"Sincerely speaking... yes," I mumbled and took a deep breath.
"How did your holiday went by? I hope that Captain Overland didn't cause you trouble? Your majesty..." Colonel Moon laughed and my cheeks flushed.
"No... not at all," I said quickly and my eyes widened. Seems like he knew about me.
"Well this is why not I summoned you. You know that in the end of this month will be the last test before everyone who succeeds will be clarified as soldiers? Then you're not a Private anymore... something tells me that you won't fail our winter exam," Colonel Moon grinned.
"Sir? I'm not quite following?" I gulped.
"Then you can start working with Jack. I guess he told you about you two being partners on field. He needs someone who can keep him in control and sane. Can I trust you on that? " Colonel Moon asked with serious face. The room started feeling cold.
"If he accepts me, then yes?" I laughed nervously.
"Good enough. You're dismissed," he said and began looking through papers. I leave the room quickly.
I walk on the corridor and I sigh from relief. "What was that," I whisper to myself as I glance behind towards Colonel Moon's office. Everything seems so odd in here sometimes.
"Just call me Ursula, darling," a voice of an older woman came from one of the rooms.
I continue my walking until I heard someone I knew. "Inspector Ursula, I can reassure you that I don't beat up Private's without a good reason," Captain Frost spoke.
It was the room that was next on right. I look around and since there is no one seeing me and all the other doors are tightly shut except this narrowed one, I decide to sneak closer and peek inside.
"It is a shame that you did a stunt like that Captain, right in the middle of surveillance week. It would be too bad to put a handsome young man like you to be a soldier for a week as a punishment," a chubby looking woman spoke while walking around Captain Frost. Her hands touched his chest for a moment and I saw him flinching.
"It won't happen again Inspector," Captain Frost spoke. "May I dismiss?" He asked quickly.
"Ursula and you may sit down," she laughed and pulled out a chair where she pushed Captain to sit.
"I can write a report of the situation for you. That Private made her fall down and I had to interfere," Captain Frost explained.
"Whoa, hold up. So you were protecting that girl? Was she nice looking? Maybe I should... consider that you have intimate feelings towards her? I doubt that you would've punched someone if the one who fell would've been a man," Ursula said and enjoyed saying every word. My heart began beating wildly, Captain was getting into trouble because of me.
"No, it's nothing like that," Captain Frost said as securely as he could.
"Mmm... well I've seen that you've been signing in and out from the base a lot lately. Maybe you do have some secrets?" Ursula smiled and sat on his lap.
My eyes widened when Ursula began toying with Captain's hair.
"This is inappropriate Inspector," Captain Frost said quietly, his voice was shivering. I squeezed my hands into fists, what is this lady up to?
"Pretty boy like you--," Ursula said with her voice dripping honey. Her hands opened up Captain's jacket and began unbuttoning his shirt. "—knows how to make things right? If you refuse or tell... I have to suspend you for lies."
She lifted Captain's hand on her hip and her face went into his neck. When she was about to slip her hand inside Captain's shirt I was feeling sick.
"Jack," I whispered quietly and then I look around. In the end of corridor is a pedestal with a flower vase on top. I concentrate and aim my hand towards it.
Then I released my powers, it hit the vase and the water froze inside making the vase explode into tiny pieces.
"What's that!" Inspector Ursula groaned and I heard her getting up. I hid inside janitor's closet quickly and I look from the narrow gap of the door how she stormed out and began searching the source of the noise.
That's when Captain Frost sneaked out from the door. "Excuse me, I have things to do," Captain Frost spoke. He rushed fast and went to closest men's room. Ursula returned to her office and I went out from the closet.
Quickly I went to bathroom door and I narrow it little bit. I saw how Captain Frost was letting water pour down, he was gagging but nothing came up. Then he washed his face and rubbed his face while heading out from the bathroom.
My heart was racing while I waited him at the door, he was holding his forehead and keeping his eyes closed. The way he was breathing showed how stressed he was, then I took his free hand and his eyes flashed open.
I pull him after me to the janitor's closet so we would have privacy. Then I locked the door which he leans against now. He just stares at me in shock.
I glance down at his neck, there's a lipstick stain on the collar of his white shirt. The upper buttons of his shirt are still open and I took a step closer. Without saying anything I began to button up his shirt, I notice some bruising on his chest.
"So it was you who caused the noise," he said quietly.
"Yes. Why was she doing those things?" I gulped and finally I was able to look back into his eyes which were so tired.
He shrugged and let out a bored laughter, "Pretty boy?"
That's when I let myself bump against him, my arms wrap around him tightly and I embrace him. His legs gave in and we fell to floor, he was sitting on it while I was laying on his lap.
"You are a strange woman Elsa," he sighed and I felt his hand touching my head.
"S-she is the Inspector. She can't be using you like a toy and blackmail you like that," I insisted.
"She didn't because you were there... I would like to keep you as the only woman who has...," he began but then he silenced.
"I bet that Colonel Moon wouldn't believe her," I snapped and look at him seriously.
"Believe that I haven't interfered with you sexually? But I have and that's one of many reasons why I could be fired," Captain laughed.
"Captain, we don't have to tell what we have done," I insisted but he shook his head while getting up.
"Things are not so simple Elsa. Just call me Jack when we're alone. I have reports to do, sorry," he mumbled and left from the closet. I waited for a moment before going out too. I guess that for now I have to really avoid being seen with him. Otherwise he is compromised and his rank as superior is at stake.
Later that evening when rest of my squad members and my friends Punzie, Merida, Astrid and Gogo went to hangout in the Den I remained at my barrack. I claimed to be sick but in reality I just needed time to think. I heard how they returned to the barrack when no one should move in the base area anymore.
When everyone was already asleep I was still busy on turning in my bed. I just couldn't get sleep while things were circling around in my head. Mostly I wanted to know what had happened when Captain's were away on the weekend.
Finally I gave up and I began pulling clothes on me. Only way on finding out was to ask from the person itself.
I felt nervous when I headed towards Captain's barrack. There were no lights on anymore so I wasn't sure if he is already sleeping. I don't want to wake him up.
Carefully I open up his door which wasn't locked and I look towards his bed. That's when I was grabbed from behind and pushed against the door that closed behind me. I felt a cold blade against my neck.
The lights flashed on. "Who are you!" Captain Frost shouted angrily but then he was stunned of seeing me. Slowly he released his grip and sighed.
"You shouldn't sneak around," he mumbled and sat to his bed.
"Were you expecting someone?" I questioned while I rubbed my aching wrists which he squeezed with his other hand.
"Maybe someone who wants me dead? Who knows?" He said bitterly when he let himself drop down to lay on the bed. He was shirtless and the shirt from before was laying on the floor. He noticed me staring at it, with the lipstick stain and all.
"I'm going to burn it--," he muttered and then he stares at me again, "—what brought you here? It's night... you shouldn't wander around the base and no... I'm not up to any fun with you right now."
My cheeks heated up. "I came to speak with you!" I raised my voice when I sat next to him. Even he sat down.
"Make your point fast," he said coldly.
"What happened on weekend?" I whispered as I let my hand touch his eyebrow that had cut on it. Then I touched his lip which also had a cut.
"Failed mission, they knew our plan. Pitch Black was there," he explained.
"Wow. I wasn't sure that you would tell me," I whispered.
"Soon you're a soldier. My forced partner, so you better know... By the way, if you go outside base then call Shawn. He makes sure you're safe, I can't leave from here," he said quietly.
"Why can't you leave?" I insisted.
"He wants me dead. He knows you and wants to hurt you so that's why I've been following you. Agh! Anyway why are you here asking all this questions?" He groaned.
"I care for you," I gulped and touched his shoulder.
"You shouldn't, you're foolish," he exhaled and looks away. I turn his head so he is forced to look back at me.
"My sister learned me a great lesson of persistence and what you do for people you love. I'm not giving up, Jack," I told him seriously. It made him blush and I smile.
That's when he pulled me close, his arm wrapped around my body as the back of his other hand was stroking my cheek. He began kissing me, making my heart go wild. We fell to his bed and curl my legs around him.
When we parted from our kiss I stare into his blue eyes, I see the circles around his eyes again.
"When did you sleep last time?" I wanted to know.
"At your castle with you. Otherwise short moments, why?" He said quietly.
"You look tired. Besides your body is beaten up, you should rest," I told him strictly.
"But I see nightmares," he said with terror in his voice. His eyes were fearful also.
"That's why I stay here this night," I smiled and brush my hand through his hair. His eyes closed up a bit as he relaxed. He snuggled against me and exhaled an agreement.
I hold my hand on his bruised chest. Then I felt something strange on his skin and I look down.
"Jack?" I asked.
"Mmh?" He mumbled in his sleep.
"What's this?" I gulped as I see some shimmering black substance that reminds me of sand. I try to wipe it away but then I scream.
It was like it had turned into liquid. Jack opened his eyes and saw how it went inside one of his wounds. Then he began shaking, squirming and shouting in pain.
I saw how it crawled under his skin like a needle that is pressed down sideways under your skin.
"G-get Sandy," Jack managed to gasp out. His voice was dry and he was squeezing the bedsheets, clearly being in pain.
He didn't have to tell me twice before I was running outside. The snow was thick and more was coming down but I kept on running towards Captain Sandman's barrack.
I beat Captain Sandman's door violently. It was locked unfortunately. Finally he came to the door, yawning and rubbing his eyes. He was a short man so I look down at him.
"Captain Sandman! This is urgent!" I pant out and he frowned. He clearly was wondering why I am here.
"Please, something is wrong with Captain Frost. S-something weird happened... it was like black sand had went inside him. He is hurting," I nearly cried and took his arm.
I didn't have to tell him twice because he was already rushing with me. We raised back to my barrack area and straight into Captain Frost's barrack.
"Jack!" I shouted when I saw him laying on the ground. He had fallen from his bed and now he was sweating. He flinched when I went to him and raised his head to my lap.
Captain Sandman then touched my shoulder, his eyes were asking me something.
"H-here," I said as I lifted Jack's arm. Now Captain Sandman was able to see Jack's wound and how there was a black line under his skin.
Immediately he began treating Jack, he touched the spot where the black substance had went and it moved further, making Jack whimper from pain and squeeze my hand.
Captain Sandman scribbled something down and then he showed me his miniature notebook.
'Hold him'.
I nod my head and grabbed onto Jack's arms. I saw how Captain Sandman took something from a small pouch. It reminds me of the black substance but this is golden.
I gasp when the golden substance goes inside Jack's wound, it approached the black substance. They mixed and soon I was just able to see golden substance under his skin. That's when Captain Sandman did a pulling movement and the golden substance got out.
Jack was panting violently and I glance at Captain Sandman worryingly.
'He is fine. I got it out.'
"Thank god," I sighed and let my hand brush through Jack's hair, it was like an instinct.
"Sandy... I didn't know... that, I... I had some of it on me still," Jack said faintly and opened up his eyes.
That's when Captain Sandman sighed and some weird patterns appeared over his head.
"I know, I was reckless for not going to check up... I was distracted," Jack laughed and began to sit. He leaned some of his body weight on me.
Then a new signal came over Captain Sandman's head. They both then glanced at me and I move a bit restlessly because of their staring.
"She's trustworthy Sandy. Without her I don't know what could've happened. And yes, I'll tell her what happened because as my future partner she needs to know," Jack said strictly and Captain Sandman nodded.
Before going out Captain Sandman wrote something on his notebook which he then showed me, making sure that Jack wouldn't see it.
'Keep an eye on him tonight. Don't let him fool you.'
"I'm fine," I said to Captain Sandman who then closed the door.
Jack got up and went to his bed, "You should go to sleep." He mumbled.
"I'll sleep here. I'll just sneak back before anyone wakes up so Inspector won't suspect us," I said as securely as I could.
"I guess I can't change your mind," he said with a slightly amused voice. He unbuckled his pants and dropped them down. He only wore his underwear when he got into bed.
I stood dumpfounded on my spot. "Well? What is taking you so long?" He grinned.
I held my breath when I got rid of my boots, pants and shirt. I only had my underwear on me when I crawled next to him. He pulled me close, right against his chest with his arm under my shoulders.
"We got into a fight with Pitch Black's invention. It is that black sand. He used is a weapon and wounded me, that's what happened... but... the reason why they are so horrible is how they make you see your worst nightmare all over and over again," Jack explained and rested his head against mine.
"I'm here now. There won't be any nightmares and you can sleep a good night sleep," I assured him and I stroked his cheek with my hand.
"Mmhmm.. well just in case," he exhaled and reached his free hand towards door. I saw how the doorframe froze. Then he made wind push the light switch and the lights were off. It took me a while to get used to the dark and be able to see again.
"Good night," I whisper softly and kiss him quickly.
In the morning I woke up into loud banging on the door.
"Captain Frost!" Someone yelled and I startled.
"So goes waking up before anyone else, huh?" Jack teased me and then he pressed me under blanket. His left arm was around me.
"Get in," he said once he had unfrozen the door.
"Captain, I'm sorry but Private Arendelle is missing," Hiccup explained.
"No she's not. I told her to go for a run early today for acting up yesterday. Now get out," Jack ordered and I heard the door closing.
Then he pulled the blanket from over me.
"You better go for that run soon," he grinned and kissed my forehead before getting up. I got up after him and I saw how he went to do paperwork behind his desk after he had dressed himself.
"Umm.. Captain," I whispered.
"Jack," he replied shortly.
"Jack... Can I go already? I need to use bathroom," I spoke in embarrassment.
He pointed to his right and I saw a door. I went to it and there was a small room with a toilet and sink. I went inside and did my business.
"I had to use your towel to dry my hands," I apologized. Then he turns around and points at a closet.
"In plastic bag is a new towel. Mom always said that if you bring a girl to home you should give her a towel of her own. Sorry for forgetting," he smiled warmly. The circles around his eyes had vanished. I nod my head and from the closet I found a towel from where he told me to search it for.
It was light blue with snowflake pattern. I hang it next to his even though it felt a bit weird.
"Come here," he called me and I went to him. He pulled me to sit on his lap and his eyes examined at me.
"What?" I laughed nervously.
"Just trying to figure you out," he smirked and poked my nose.
"Why?" I asked and felt lightly irritated.
"Why a girl like you would hang out with a demon?" He said seriously and his eyes filled with sadness.
I gave him a brave smile. "Because I'm trying to tell you that you aren't. Like my sister proved that I'm not a monster, she acted from love like I'm doing now," I said to him softly before getting up.
He was silent while I got dressed and went to the door.
"Love huh?" He mumbled and stares at the papers on his desk.
"Yes. Now I'm going for that run Captain," I cheered and sneaked out from his barrack.
The crispy air felt good as well as realizing that he seems to be much more open to share the things that are troubling him.
