1 Early Morning
POV Elsa
First day of training and I'm just laying on my bunk bed. On the opposite site are Hiccup's and Hiro's beds. Mine is closest to the door, left from it. Flynn's is on the same side as mine but we have one bed between us.
Behind me is a window and I can see how the early beams of morning light are coming in. They paint the walls in colors of pink and yellow. Everyone else is still fast asleep. I had just gone to use the lavatories and quickly came back from the chilly air.
"RISE AND SHINE SOLDIER!" A voice roared as the door slam open. I saw our Captain standing on the doorway. He was neatly dressed to his army uniform, with collar shirt and all. It caused everyone to jump out from their beds.
"A good soldier will be ready for battle at anytimes! Understood?" Captain Overland yelled as he was walking in front of us.
"Sir yes, sir!" Everyone shouted in unison.
"Time for morning run!" He ordered and started counting 1,2,3,1,2,3 and so on. I ran past him as I was the last one to get out.
"Private Arendelle," he said coldly and I turn around. He is staring at me and I notice how his eyes look down on my body. It made my cheeks heat up and I try to pull my shirt a bit more down.
"Are you embarrassed?" He spat out and narrowed his eyebrows.
"Y-yes sir," I replied and he hummed.
"Get some freaking clothes on Private! From now on you will sleep with your uniform pants on," he snapped at me and I ran past him. Quickly I pulled my pants on me and then I ran past him, to catch with others.
Suddenly Captain Overland ran past us all, he was fast. It was like the wind itself had been giving him more speed. I notice how my new friends are practicing with their Captain Tooth as we're stuck with this cold minded Captain.
"I don't think that he will give us any slack today," Hiro panted out as we were finishing our morning run.
Captain Overland was already waiting at training fields. I glance at my squad team members. They had just their boxers, boots and t-shirts on as we left in a hurry.
"Man you guys are slow and out of shape," Captain Overland groaned.
"Yes we are, sir!" We shouted in unison as we stood straight in front of him with our arms behind our backs.
"Well I guess that I need to bother and get to know your names," Captain Overland hummed and went in front of us.
"Name and age Private?" Captain asked in front of Hiro.
"Hiro Hamada, 18 years old. SIR!," Hiro replied quickly and I notice him shivering.
"Another idiot wanting to die young. Welcome to the army," Captain sighed and shook his head while going in front of Eugene.
"Sir! Eugene Fitzherbert, 23 years old. Sir!" Eugene told and made honor sign by lifting his hand over his forehead.
I'm slowly starting to quiver as next in line is Hiccup. Then it would be me.
"Hiccup Haddock. 21 years old, sir!" Hiccup said and avoided eye contact with the Captain. Now it was my turn.
"E-Elsa Arendelle, 20 years old. How about you? SIR!" I shouted.
"Noooo," I heard Hiccup gasping. Now Captain was standing in front of me, his eyes were colder than Nebraska and his eyes had these dark shadows as he narrowed his eyes.
"Only woman would ask back, huh? That's what you are Private. A woman," Captain hissed and then stood even taller than normal.
"Listen all," he shouted as he was now walking in front of the line again. I felt like I could breathe again.
"I am your Captain, Jackson Overland. You may call me as Captain Frost from now. And... I'm 25 if that matters," he said angrily the last part and glared at me. Great, we barely know each other and he hates me. How do I always have this impact on people?
I raised my hand. "Why do they call you Jack Frost in any case? I thought that it's just for this imaginary person on folk lore," I questioned.
"You seriously are an idiot Private Arendelle," Captain Frost sighed. "You might find out the reason later in the future. I don't have a habit of bragging with my past," Captain Frost said. I noticed a tint of something odd in his voice.
"I'm an idiot, sir!" I said quickly as I tried to save the situation. Instead of praising me he rubbed his temples. And I thought that army could be nice way to give something from yourself to greater cause. Now I even doubt that I can manage through basic training with this hateful Captain. Why can't I ask questions?
"Good. Next you all will run this obstacle course through in ten minutes. In the end of your training you will do it in two, otherwise I will personally kick you out," Captain Frost told us strictly as he pointed at a track.
That was the usual type, we should crawl under a net, jump over a pond with help from rope. Climb over twice as tall wall as Captain Frost is, a net that we should climb over too and some various other obstacles. Gladly it's a nice day today so we don't have to crawl in mud.
"MOVE IT!" Captain Frost roared and we started to run. I was second on the first obstacle which was to use a rope to go over this small muddy pond. I grabbed onto it and I see Hiccup and Eugene going to other ropes on my each side. Eugene took some speed and swings himself across. I inhaled deeply before giving my best shot.
It felt exciting to swing and hang on to the rope. Until My hands slipped and I fell to the muddy water. I kept on gasping as the water felt chilly this time of morning. Really less pleasant.
"No time for mud treatment for skin Private Arendelle.Get your ass up!" Captain said angrily and I crawled up from the muddy pond. Then I ran to the crawling obstacle and I go under it with Hiro going beside me.
It was harder than I thought and the dust from ground sticks against my wet clothes and skin. I am a real mess.
After excruciating twenty minutes we all were done with the course. We were exhausted and ready for shower and a meal.
"This was the worst kind of training I've ever seen! I hope that you are better this afternoon because you are doing this again. Ease! Dismissed," he shouted. I heard the guys whining next to me as they went on.
"Private Arendelle," Captain Frost's voice came right behind me. I turn around quickly. He was looking really clean compared to me.
"Yes sir?" I gulped out.
"What's that?" He asked bitterly as his hand grabbed onto my loosen French braid.
"Sir, that's my hair sir!" I replied quickly as he was pulling my hair painfully.
"You know that enemy might use long hair as torturing method? It might be stuck in vehicles too. Cut it off," he said blankly and threw my braid from his hand. His expression was cold.
"With all the honors sir, no I won't. I'm going to keep it on a bun from now, sir," I replied while my voice quivered.
"Hmph," he hummed as he turned his back at me. I see him going to his barrack which was next to ours.
"Pssst! Arendelle!" Hiccup whisper yelled. They were going to showers already. I go to him quickly.
"Our Captain is a idiot!" I said all of a sudden and Hiccup flinched and glanced quickly towards Captain's barrack.
"Phew he didn't hear you. You should be more careful. He really dislikes women for some reason," Hiccup hummed as we went to barrack with showers.
"You think?" I said sarcastically while my head was still tingling of the rough way that he handled my hair.
I waited that the guys had showered first before I went to my own turn. After that we went to breakfast and I ate as much as I can. Actually I was starving already from all the early training.
POV Punzie
Once we got from our training after lunch hour I saw Elsa sitting on the ground. She was under this big tree and reading something. I go to her. She was wearing her training outfit and her hair was brought up into tight bun.
"Hey! What are you reading Elsa?" I ask as I sat next to her. She showed me the cover of the notebook.
"Tactics of warfare," she grinned.
"That's nice! So you think that you will be leader in military sometimes?" I giggled.
"Well, who knows but I'm so going to show my Captain that I am way better than he thinks!" Elsa grinned and had this determined look on her face.
"Mmm.. why is that?" I asked as I pull my legs close to my chest.
"I came to army so I can help people and my Captain wants me out. Just because I'm a woman... Hey, let's switch places?" Elsa's voice was both sarcastic and bitter as she closed her notebook.
"Um, I don't think that switching places is allowed and besides, I don't want to be in his team. No one wants, even the guys on other squads were relieved that they don't have to endure him. He is kinda obsessed with training, that's what I've heard," I told to Elsa who was biting her lower lip anxiously.
"I know, he is making us train in the afternoon too," Elsa sighed and looks down at her feet.
"Wow, so you mean that you need to train just before the lessons?" I asked curiously and she nodded her head.
"Rapunzel," Elsa started.
"Just call me Punz," I replied with a smile as I redid my hair into ponytail.
"Punz. Why did you join into military?" Elsa asks and laughs a bit.
"Well I grew up in a foster home which was all I knew for years. That's until Eugene bumped onto my porch and we ran away so we could join into military. I'm just amazed that we can explore the world!" I cheered out loud. Elsa just chuckled and smiled at me warmly.
"Yeah, I sort of know the feeling of being stuck," Elsa whispered.
"What do you mean?" I threw the question at her. It made her flinch a bit so I regretted that I asked it from her. She seems like a nice person, too nice to be hurt.
"Well, I might tell you one day but for now it's kind of painful memory," she whispered with her voice shaking a bit. She was playing with her fingers nervously.
It was like we had this connection, like we shared a memory or an experience that made us similar. Maybe she was locked up too?
"Mmm... Yeah, let's chat about it another time," I reassured her. She seems relieved now but this long silence was now present. I glance at the clouds on the sky as she is about to stand up and leave.
"Oh! Guess what I heard!" I gasped out and she sat back down. I was about to burst to tell her the thing that I came to tell her in the first place. So exciting!
"What is it?" She laughed and leans over her legs.
"We're getting dogs!" I said quickly.
"Dogs?" Elsa repeated after me while raising her eyebrow. Like I was telling her something crazy.
"YES! It's part of new soldier's training, well, now it is. It's a new method that Captain Toothiana and Frost have been ordered to proceed with. Haven't you heard?" I squealed as I grabbed onto her hands. Finally a girl to talk to! Merida and GoGo are nice but they don't quite get the fact how adorable dogs are.
"N-no I haven't," Elsa said while blinking her eyes. She was clearly confused.
"Well! Tomorrow they will bring puppies and the dog chooses us and we train them. Maybe Captain Frost is keeping it as a surprise for you all?" I said smiling.
"Or because he is irritated," Elsa mumbled and rolled her eyes.
"Uh, maybe," I laughed my reply. Then Elsa glances at her watch and shoots up.
"Oh no! I'm running late from training!" Elsa said in panic. She grabbed her notebook and started running. "See you at lesson Punz!" Elsa yelled while she run.
"See you!" I shouted after her.
I lay back on the grass so I could relax a bit before the long lesson. When I close my eyes I try to imagine what kind of dogs they might have for us, the new Private's to have. Maybe a cute little Chihuahua chooses me? Or a huge dog? Who knows but this is awesome!
