Apple Products
3:50 PM
"So I told Jenna she could go shove a boot up her-" Kalum stopped Nya from finished her sentence.
"Watch your mouth around our smol child!" Kalum pointed at me and Nya rolled her eyes.
"Hey!" I exclaimed, "I am not a smol child!"
"Pristine, honey...that's like saying you're not in love with apple products," Kalum said patting my shoulder. I giggled and took a sip of my apple juice.
"Why do you drink so much apple juice anyway?" Rayan asked, grabbing one of the empty bottles of apple juice off the table.
"Because Kalum and Nya bribed me here with apple juice and they are buying me as much as I want to keep me here," I explained with a satisfied grin.
"You're running down our bank accounts to buy apple juice. Typical." Nya whined.
"Well what would you want me to buy?" I asked curiously.
"I dunno. Go buy a purse or something." Kalum suggested.
"I'm good with my apple juice."
"As I said, typical." Nya repeated.
"A-And I didn't just buy apple juice!" I exclaimed defensively.
"Well what else did you buy?" Rayan asked, looking at me expectantly.
"I-I bought apple sauce-"
"Made out of apples." Nya intervened.
"And apple butter-"
"That has the word apple in it which means, of course, you would buy it." Kalum said smugly.
"A-And I bought apple seeds!"
"To grow apples so, you can make apple pie and apple turnovers and -" I covered Kalum's mouth.
"S-Shush up!" I exclaimed, blushing in embarrassment.
Nya and Ryan grinned. "You guys are mean," I whined, but their grins only grew.
"Change of subject," Kalum started and I think we all knew what he was gonna say, for he had said it 6 times already, "Did you see how hot Nance's picture was on Instagram?" He gushed and you could just see the gay flag waving above his head, and the rainbow fireworks going off in his head.
Rayan and I groaned.
"Yes!" Rayana groaned, "You've mentioned it 7 times now."
"It isn't my fault my boyfriend is a hottie." Kalum bragged.
Oh crap. I looked over at Rayan. He was pale.
"Y-you guys are dating?" He asked fearfully. At that moment I wished Rayan was at a soccer game or the salon working with his mom instead of in this conversation.
Kalum, being oblivious to the fear in Rayan's voice, nodded pridefully.
PAUSE
Rayan has had a crush on Kalum since third grade. When Rayan found out Nance and Kalum were dating, I could hear his heart shatter.
Rayan has always been the sensitive quiet type. He's quite unpredictable and I'm worried for him now. If only Kalum would get his head out the rainbow clouds it's stuck in and see he's hurting his best friend more than he knows.
PLAY
Reaching under the table, I pat his hand. He squeezed my hand tightly and I could feel the sadness radiating off him.
"I don't think I could ever find someone more perfect than Nance." Kalum dreamily said. Rayan's grip tightened, "I can't honestly think of s-"
"Hey! I'm getting tired. Rayan and I are gonna go back to my house." I said abruptly.
"W-What? I never asked to spend the ni-" I slapped my hand over Rayan's mouth.
"You don't remember? We planned this last week! No? Well we did, now lets go." I exclaimed pulling Rayan away from Nya and Kalum.
Rayan's hands were cold and clammy. I could tell that if I had gotten him out of that conversation any later, he would have passed out.
5:20 PM
"I was just too late!" Rayan sobbed into my lap. I pet his fluffy hair soothingly.
"Don't say that Cupcake."
PAUSE
Cupcake is my nickname for Rayan. We've known each other since kindergarten and the first day we met, he was eating a chocolate cupcake and it stuck.
PLAY
"B-But it's true! And he could never love me anyway! He's to attracted to Nance to even notice the fact that I'm practically drooling over him all day." Rayan mumbled into my white overall's shorts.
"Kalum just can't see what a jewel you are Cupcake," I mumbled.
"Jewels are shiny. Shiny things catch people's eye. If I was a jewel, how come Kalum can't see me? How come he can't see how much effort I pour into looking good for him?" Rayan said lifting his head to look at me.
"Kalum sees what he wants to see Cupcake. You can't just wait for him to finally want to see you what you want him to see. You have to move on ,and if he finally does, then you come back. Love is...complicated. But love is what makes life worth living. And one day you will have it , and you know why?" I asked him with a smile.
"Why Apple Sauce?" His eyes shimmered with curiosity.
"Because everyone has a special love song that they deserve to hear."
"What does that mean?"
"You'll see Cupcake. You'll see..."
