Chapter 2: The Blood that Binds Us

Alicia and Alessia made there way through Hogwarts castle about to apparate so that Alessia could ride the Hogwarts Express. When they arrived at platform 9 3/4 Alessia immediately bounded for the train not paying much attention to her mother any longer.

"See you in a bit darling." Alicia smiled watching her daughter hop onto the train only turning back to her mom for a moment.

"See you soon Momma." She saluted her mother before entering the train wondering who she would find, hoping to meet some people on the train.

She looked through the train cars bumping into people as she went. Finally she found an empty one, just as she was about to head inside she heard some filthy words being spouted.

"Filthy little Mudblood, get out of my way. Scurry along like the filth you are." Her feet carried her towards the voice before she could stop them. Her hand already taking her wand as fury engulfed her.

Just several compartments down she found a young boy who seemed to be staring blankly from the ground at an older one. The older one, most likely the one who had spoke the filth, had almost white hair and extremely pale. His eyes were sharpened like a hippogriffs talon, although comparing such a creature to him would be demeaning to the hippogriff.

The younger boy, who had obviously been attacked by the slurs, was fairly tall for his age although still shorter than the older one. His hair was a dark brown and incredibly shaggy, but he didn't seem bothered by the words. Almost as if he had been expecting him. When the older one pulled out his wand, obviously annoyed by the lack of reaction, Alessia decided to step in.

"Hey leave him alone." She pointed her wand at the boy while walking closer to the scene, her eyes never wavering at her target.

"Oh! Two little Mudblood lovers eh boys?" The blonde chuckled with his pack of friends, "What are you going to do girl-"

Alessia knew fully well that the use of magic for minors was forbidden and while she was sure her mother could get her out of trouble she did not want to rely on her magic. Instead, Alessia reared her fist back and sent it flying toward the blondes face before he could process what was happening. A loud crunch echoed through the train as the blonde boy felt the girl's fury.

"How dare you, you insolent-" Ignoring the boy entirely now Alessia grabbed the other boy's arm and pulled him up off of the floor. She didn't stop dragging him away until they were safe in the empty compartment she had found moments before.

She sat down the boy begrudgingly sat in front of her on the opposite side. She could tell the boy didn't let his emotions out often, like he had been picked on a lot in the past.

"I'm Alessia, but a lot of my friends back home liked to call me Rye." When she went to her muggle school her friends always said that she acted a bit like Rye bread. That she was tough and her last name was Henris which they took the Ri part for the nickname. Plus everyone got confused since her and her mothers names were so similar. Apparently her father was admit to name their daughter after his wonderful wife.

"Artemis Leeroy Sinclair, but I go by Roy." Leeroy spoke analyzing the girl in front of him, "I was fine you know. I didn't need your help and his words don't matter."

"Just because my help wasn't needed doesn't mean that I wouldn't give it freely. I refuse to stand by and watch such a horrendous display of pureblood supremacy." A growl bubbled up in Rye's throat when she thought about the slurs the blonde boy had spoken.

"All pure bloods are like that. You shouldn't care what they think." Leeroy didn't smile when he spoke and his words held their own kind of prejudice. Sure, the blonde boy was cruel, but not all pure bloods were bad.

"I guess." Rye muttered not wanting to argue with the boy, "Well either way I'm glad you're ok."

"Thank you, I know I said it wasn't necessary but," He paused fidgeting in his seat trying to figure out what to say, "I appreciate you punching Malfoy."

"Malfoy? That's the kid's name?" Rye had heard the name many times from her mother, they were one of the older pure blood families in Europe. Oh this was going to blow up in her face and she hadn't even lasted an hour before making trouble.

"Yeah, he's some big shot pure blood kid in Slytherin apparently." Rye could tell that there was a lot of bad blood between his brother and the Malfoy. Leeroy continued, "My brother told me about him, he's in the same year as Malfoy."

"What house is your brother in?" Rye couldn't help but ask knowing fully well that tensions were higher between certain houses.

"He's a Slytherin, which of course makes Malfoy hate him even more. A filthy you know what in his house is unacceptable to his kind." Leeroy explained not saying the word knowing that he knew upset Rye. He despised people like Malfoy, pure bloods who thought that Hogwarts was only for people like them.

"What house do you wanna be in then? Not Slytherin like your brother?" Rye asked but his reply was interrupted as the candy trolly made its way to their compartment.

"Would you two like anything from the trolly?" The older lady asked with a smile on her face, Rye immediately looked through the cart trying to see if they had her favorite candies.

"What do you like Leeroy?" Rye looked Leeroy looked at her confused for a moment wondering why she was so willing to buy candy for him. They had just met for crying out loud.

"I'm alright you don't have to worry about me Rye."

"Um, Two Roasted Chimera Chips, Two Exploda Sodas, Two Fruity Chocolate Exploders, and Lemondrops please." Rye opened her coin purse, filled with the money she had earned in America helping their elderly neighbors which had been converted to wizard money.

Then Rye place one of each on Leeroy's side before opening her chips first placing one on her mouth. She let out a content hum tasting the smoky barbecue flavor which had a hint of lime. Delicious, utterly delicious. Rye looked up from her snack to ask Leeroy something only to find him staring blankly at her, his head tilted slightly.

"Do you not like any of it? I can call her back if you-" Rye quickly talked getting worried that she had messed up her chance at a new friend. She was typically more social than this, but she couldn't help but feel nervous about Hogwarts. She wanted one good friend before everyone found out. Then it would be harder, plus Leeroy seemed nice.

"Why?" Leeroy asked the girl cutting off her ramblings entirely.

"Why what?" Rye tilted her head at the boy confused by his behavior, aren't kids her age supposed to like all free food. Did she manage to find the one boy who didn't like candy on the train?

"Why would you buy this for me, you barely know me?" Leeroy sneered defensively as Rye looked at him blankly blinking her eyes a few times. Then she smiled.

"Why not? I had hoped we could be friends." Rye closed her eyes at him still with a big grin on her face. Maybe she hadn't gotten it that wrong, maybe the boy just didn't trust others easily. That would make sense.

"You-" Leeroy looked at her goofy grin finding one of his own coming upon his face. She spoke so straight forwardly, she didn't have any other motives. She just protected him from Malfoy and bought him candy because she wanted to be friends.

Leeroy let out a laugh, "Yeah we can be friends Rye. Thank you for the food."

Leeroy opened the soda first taking a sip of the drink the fizzy goodness making its way down his throat. Rye smiled brightly at his comment, "No problem!"

The two continued to eat their treats that Rye had bought them talking about lighter things. Leeroy told her that he was looking forwards to either Magical Creatures or herbology. He wanted to become a healer for magical creatures someday, because animals didn't judge by blood. They only trusted people who deserved their trust. Rye in turn told him that she didn't know what she wanted to do yet and that it was cool he already knew so young.

"Well I was named after Newt Scamander! All of us were actually, I got Artemis, my brother got Newton, and my sister got Fida." Leeroy smiled more when he was talking about his family or magical creatures. It was nice.

"I'm guessing your sister was the youngest?" Rye could tell that the last one was a stretch considering one of Newt's middle names was Fido. They made it a bit more feminine sure, but it was still a bit odd.

"Yeah, her full name is Isadora Abigail Fida Sinclair. Mom was really brutal when naming her." The pair laughed together while pitying his poor sister. They all called her Fida though because she preferred it saying it was unique. She was only nine years old after all.

"Do you have any siblings Rye?" Rye shuffled uneasily at the question, she had always wished that she had a sibling. Or at least someone near her age in her family, but all she really had was her mom.

"No, its just my mom and I." Leeroy watched the way she fidgeted in her seat and decided to distract her. He could tell she was uncomfortable with the question, maybe something had happened. Either way he didn't want to hurt the girl, she was far too pure.

"Are you gonna try to be on the quidditch team when we are older?"

Before Rye could even attempt to answer the question the train gave a lurch forward the power going out. Rye and Leeroy went towards the glass trying to see what was happening. The doors and windows jostled around and then everything went eerily silent. The windows were cold to the touch causing both children to rip their hands away from it.

There was a noise coming from the hallway causing Rye to turn seeing the beast. She had only read about them and asked a few questions to her mom. Rye had never imagined that she would ever witness one of these creatures in person. A Dementor. The keepers of Azkaban and all joyous things. Soul Suckers in the literal sense. The creature only glanced at Rye, while Leeroy was still looking outside trying to figure out what was happening. Then the dementor continued its way down the train.

The encounter probably had lasted only a few seconds, five at most. But Rye couldn't quiet her mind now. The dementor was looking for somebody, but who? There were children on the train, surely the dementors were not supposed to be here. Before Rye could think of anything better she stood drawing Leeroy's eyes to her.

"Stay here, do not let anything in if you can help it." Leeroy looked at the girl, his eyebrows scrunched up and his head tilted.

"I-" Before Leeroy could utter more than a syllable Rye was already leaving there little compartment and heading the way the dementor had gone.

She walked briskly trying to figure out where the pesky thing had gone. She wasn't really thinking about what she would do if she ever caught up to the creature. Her mother had told her the spell to defend herself, only because she had been so curious. Her mom never thought the girl would need the spell any time soon. If ever. Rye had tried multiple times to get the spell right but she had never been able to fully cast it. She could produce a bit of the light for the charm but it never became whatever animal it was meant to be.

She was in the car for third years when she finally noticed a bit of the tail of the creature peeking out from a compartment. It was attacking a student. Rye quickened her pace pulling her wand from the pocket in her sweater's left sleeve. It had taken a while to sow such a place, but at this moment Rye was thankful for it.

"Expects Pa-" She began to speak in incantation hoping that any amount of the spell could be useful in this moment. But before she had a chance to finish the spell a bright light emerged from the compartment. The spell did not have some sort of creature, not corporeal then Rye thought that's what her mom had said.

The dementor rushed away through the train and out into the world. Rye quickened her pace to reach the compartment the dementor had come from to check on her classmates. Rye came to find one child knocked out on one side and two children, plus who she assumed to be a professor, on the other side.

"Um," Rye began when she pulled the compartment door open and saw how many eyes were on her, "I saw the dementors and wanted to make sure everyone was ok."

Rye had an awkward smile on her face, she had not expected it to be a teacher in there with the students. The professor gave her a kind smile while the two kids beside him seemed to be still in shock.

"Since you guys are ok I guess I'll go." Rye tried to back track and leave the compartment only for the teacher's hand to shoot out and pull her back inside.

"I would feel better if you could wait for me to escort you back to your compartment myself Ms?" The professor asked as he tried to reason why such a young witch would have tried to take on a dementor. She probably hadn't even known what the creature was, just threw herself into danger. A second year Gryffindor perhaps?

"Alessia Henris, Sir. That's really not necessary though I'm sure the rest of the dementors are gone now." Remus's eyebrows shot up, she had been aware then.

"What had you planned on doing to them Ms. Henris, surely you know only a well executed-"

"I have a little practice with Expecto, not a lot so I can only give off some light. But I had hoped that would give us enough time to get an adult involved." Remus watched the way her stance shifted from that of an awkward student to an unafraid one.

"What year are you in? How do you already know that spell?" The girl in the compartment asked for the first time, seemingly only now interested in Rye.

"I'm a first year, my mom taught it to me cause I was curious." The girl seemed to want to ask more about it but the lights were coming back on. Not only that but it seemed that the boy who had passed out was also awakening.

The girl handed the boy his glasses, which she had been holding the entire time, which he responded with a thank you.

"Here eat this, it'll help." The boy's face scrunched up looking at the bar of candy the professor had given him, "It's alright its chocolate, it'll make you feel better."

Slowly the boy sat up and took a small bit of the chocolate bar while everyone watched him. Rye was tempted to try and flee the scene, nobody wanted a stranger to watch them while they were weakened.

"What was that thing?" The boy asked going to look back where it had come from only to find Rye standing there, "Who are you?"

"Um, I'm Alessia. Hi?" Rye gave an awkward kind of half wave hoping to get the attention off from her, although the professor didn't help much.

"She knew what those creatures were and tried to help. Lucky I was here though." The professor looked towards Rye for a moment before continuing, "As for those creatures they are known as dementors, one of the guards of Azkaban."

"He's gone now, he was searching the train for Sirius Black." The three children seemed to relax at the man's words, although Rye was still a little on edge.

Rye had heard a few stories about Sirius Black, although when she looked at the account herself she wasn't certain what to believe. Family members of Black seemed to believe he was innocent and no one could ever confirm that he was a death eater. It had never sat well with Rye, what would cause a man to betray his friends?

"If you'll excuse me I need to have a word with the driver and get Ms. Henris back to her compartment."

Rye began to leave with the professor only to realize she had never gotten those children's names. She took a step back and opened the compartment door once more, "I never did get your names?"

The girl was the first one to answer, "I'm Hermoine Granger, nice to meet you."

"Ron, Ron Weasley and this here is Harry Potter." Rye wondered why the boy, Ron, had spoken like she should know the other boys name. She thought about it for a few seconds, but the name wasn't ringing any bells. Unbothered by it she just nodded and closed the door.

"Lead the way Ms. Henris." This time Rye walked at a slower pace giving her time to collect her thoughts.

"Did you really think you could save anyone Ms. Henris? Beyond that you are aware the use of magic is against the law for those underage?" Remus still could not figure the young girl out, either she was incredibly stupid or incredibly smart. To go headfirst into danger like that without even a year at Hogwarts under her belt.

"Over the summer I read a lot," Rye began as she fell into step with the professor, "Dementors were one of the things I found and I guess it would be worth it to lose my magic if it saved someone else. They suck the soul out of you, no one on this train deserves that."

"Not even Sirius Black?"

"That's not something for me to judge, although I can't say the whole ordeal isn't... odd." Rye knew she probably shouldn't admit to such a thought in front of a professor. But it wasn't like she was saying a murder should go free, just that things were bizarre.

"You may be the only student on this train who thinks that." The fact that the man said student was odd, surely all the adults thought the man was guilty to.

"What do you think-" Rye began to ask the professor but before she could finish her question they had arrived back at her compartment.

"This is me, thank you sir." The professor gave her a nod and waited making sure she got inside before heading back the way they had come so he could go to talk to the driver.

"What happened to you?" Leeroy must have been able to tell that something had happened from my face. Not to mention a professor had just walked me back to our compartment.

"Madness, absolute Madness."

"When I call your name, you will come forth and I shall place the sorting hat on your head and you will be sorted into your houses." Minerva McGonagall spoke out to the group of first years in front of her, recognizing the young girl she had met previously. Alicia had introduced her daughter to the faculty the first day they arrived her and explained her reasoning for her early arrival to Hogwarts.

"Childe, Abbigail." A girl with black hair and glasses walked cautiously up to the podium. Sitting down just before the hat had hit her head it yelled, "Ravenclaw!"

The girl let off an excited smile and ran towards her house with a joyous expression. Then the next name was called, "George, Jeremy."

The hat took a bit more time with this one, trying to decide between Ravenclaw and Slytherin before placing the boy in Slytherin. The next children called were Allen, Brendan who was in Hufflepuff, Conner, John who was in Gryffindor, and Grant, Reyna who was in Hufflepuff. Then Rye's name was called.

"Henris, Alessia!" Minerva called Rye's name recalling that the young girl was the daughter of the newest professor at Hogwarts. She wondered what kind of girl she would be considering how studious her mother had apparently been.

Rye separated from Leeroy with a reassuring smile, knowing how many eyes would be on her soon. That hat would no doubt reveal her heritage to everyone in the hall just as he had earlier to a few of her classmates. She stepped up into the chair and allowed the hat to be placed on her head.

"Ah! An American Pureblood! I certainly don't see your kind very often." The sorting hat exclaimed in surprise causing murmurs to echo throughout as the news of Rye's blood status made its way through the hall. Alicia found multiple eyes on her as well, apparently Dumbledore had not given up that information to his faculty. The Slytherins were the loudest assuming that they would get the American pureblood as they tended to.

"I certainly understand why your mother was a Thunderbird, quite the force she is. You share many of those qualities with her." Rye smiled softly which prompted the sorting hat to laugh slightly. He could sense the close knit bond between the young girl and her mother. "You are ambitious and I suspect you enjoy mischief quite well."

Everyone knew that a Thunderbird was the American Equivalent of the Slytherin household, which caused many uneasy looks cast towards the new professor. Alicia knew that eyes were once again on her not that she minded, she was proud of her house. Thunderbirds were ambitious sure, but they were adventurous to. Strong-willed, intelligent beings. All characteristics she was proud of.

"You share many traits though with your father the Wampus, indeed what an unusual pairing they made." Rye's parents were the equivalent of a slytherin and a gryffindor if they had been at Hogwarts. "You have a very strong moral center and are not afraid to fight for your beliefs."

A sad smile appeared on the face of Alicia who remembered her other half well.

"You could certainly be placed in Ravenclaw, you're extremely studious. But that could be just another reason to place you into Slytherin." The sorting hat was silent for a few moments that seemed to go on forever for poor Alessia.

"No I think I've got it now, you barrel straight into any obstacle unyielding to back down. You share more of your father than anything else. You are a," The sorting hat paused letting everyone take in the information, but Alicia already knew where this was going.

"Gryffindor!" Rye smiled hoping off of the chair heading towards the group of people while the rest of the tables cheered excitedly. Rye noticed that the three she had meet on the train were in this house, at least she would know someone. Still Rye decided to sit where the rest of the first years sat, many empty spots around her. There hadn't been many sorted into Gryffindors, just her and that boy named John.

"Mikaelson, Cynthia." A girl with dark red hair made her way up to the sorting hat fidgeting nervously as Professor Mcgongall put the hat on.

"Ah, a timid one. Very hardworking though, and you have strong morals." The girl shifted underneath everyone's gaze, Rye felt bad for the poor girl. She'd probably be sorted into Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw though so hopefully she will fit right in.

"Not a very patient person are you? Already wanting this to end and yet we've only begun." The sorting hat spoke with a slight chuckle.

"Very well then I'll hurry this up for you, Gryffindor!" The girl looked petrified at the words the sorting hat spoke, but none the less she scrambled down from the chair as fast as possible. She shrunk away from the Gryffindors who patted on her back, instead she quickly walked and sat down beside Rye without saying a word.

"Hey, are you ok?" Rye put her hand on the girl's shoulder causing her to almost jump seven feet into the air, "Hey, its ok I'm not gonna hurt you."

"Ah sorry, I'm just not bi-big on attention." The girl pushed her glasses back up her nose while she looked down at her hands that were neatly folded in her lap.

"That's ok, the sorting hat is kind of scary. I'm Rye." The girl looked towards Rye for a moment nervous to upset the pure blood.

"I'm Cy-Cynthia." Rye smiled at the girl hoping to give her some sort of comfort. Cynthia gave her back a small awkward smile not knowing what else to do.

"I hope we get to be good friends!" Rye went to talk more but Roy's name was called up from Professor Mcgongall. Rye turned to watch and see where Roy would be placed.

"Sinclair, Artemis!" Roy made his way towards the sorting hat mind still reeling from the discovery that his new friend was in fact a pure blood. A pure blood. Bloody Hell, how could someone so nice be one of those people. Had she tricked him? Was this all some elaborate ruse?

"Ah I see, life has tried to push you quite a many times hasn't it child?" Roy tried not to react to the hat that much, ignoring it entirely, he tries to find Rye at the table of Gryffindors. Her eyes met with his for only a second and as they did they filled with fear. Fear that he would be mad at her, that he wouldn't talk to her anymore. Leeroy couldn't help the soft smile that raised upon his lips, a smile that comforted Rye.

"You are quite resilient, yet you are unaware of this fact and furthermore you tend to ignore this part of you." Rye was hoping so badly that her friend would be in the same house as her, she wanted to get to know him better.

"But the truth is you are unwavering in your loyalty, once you trust someone there is nothing you wouldn't do for them." Everyone watched as Leeroy fidgeted at this statement, apparently it hit too close to home for the boy. Still he kept his eyes on Rye, like it or not she was his friend now. That statement the hat made now applied to her, he trusted her even if she was a pure blood

"You do not fight back no matter how much someone pushes you down. You only fight for your friends, or when you must." The sorting hat let out a pleasant hum, "Yes I see now, you must be a Hufflepuff!"

Roy saw the way Rye's smile fell from her face her eyebrows drooping. Roy sent a small wink her way trying to let her know that everything would be ok. Why would it matter if they weren't in the same house? Surely they would have some classes together and they could study in the library together. Rye was grateful for the wink that Leeroy sent her way as she watched him walk to his house's table. Many got up to greet their new housemate, excited at how many people they had gotten this year.

Roy sat down with two of the other first years that had already been sorted: Brendan and Reyna. Immediately after sitting down Reyna began to fire questions about Rye towards the poor boy.

"You were walking with the pure blood when you first came in right? Is she nice? I heard that Americans can be terribly ru-" Reyna had dark chocolate hair that was in a lose braid on the right side of her head. It reached down to her collarbone, although it would be longer if it wasn't in a braid. Her eyes were big and doe-like with a lighter color of brown. She was a rather impatient girl, which was unusual for a hufflepuff.

"Reyna, please refrain from chatting the poor boy's ear off you chatterbox." The boy, Brendan spoke interrupting the girl from asking even more questions. Brendan had sandy blonde hair that was wild and unkept, it reached down to his ears and eyebrows. His eyes were a dark blue color, almost a dark turquoise color. He seemed more like a true hufflepuff between the two very patient and calm. But clearly they knew each other because they bickered like two old friends.

"I'm Brendan Allen, but you can call me Bren. The chatterbox is Reyna." Brendan told Roy only for Reyna to swat at the boys arm in anger before speaking.

"I can introduce myself thank you very much. I'm Reyna, nice to meet you." The three of them were not even paying attention to the sorting ceremony anymore.

In the end Hufflepuff received 40 new students, the lowest out of the students of the other houses. Slytherin received 42, the second lowest, Gryffindor received 47 new students, and finally Ravenclaw got the most at 49 new students. It was uncommon for houses to have so many new students, but they were the first generation after he who shall not be named was vanquished.

"Anyways, serious what is she like? The pure blood?" Reyna continued to ask her resolve to get an answer about this unknown pureblood was strong. She didn't even give Roy anytime to introduce himself.

"Rye was nic-"

"Rye?" Reyna interrupted the boy from answering the question causing Bren to shake his head with his hand on his forehead and his eyes closed.

"Yeah that's her nickname, anyways-" Leeroy tried to continue answering her question so he could actually introduce himself but he never got the chance.

"You're close enough for nicknames? I bet she forced you, arrogant pur-" Brendan was the one to interrupt her, but Roy knew what she was going to say. Was that how he had sounded to Rye earlier? So prejudice? He didn't mean to badmouth her, he hadn't known that she was a pure blood. Roy couldn't help but feel guilty regarding his words from earlier.

"Reyna!" Brendan whisper yelled at her not wanting any attention to be drawn to them as Dumbledore was about to speak, "Just drop it Rey, Dumbledore's about to speak."

Reyna sighed turning her eyes away from the boy, determined to get answers later, and looked towards the headmaster. Roy and everyone else who had been chatting in their seats followed suit.

Meanwhile, Rye hadn't had much luck with those around her. The other two girls who sat near her didn't even respond when she introduced herself. All of this because she was a pureblood? How ridiculous, this was why Rye had been hoping to make friends before the sorting hat ceremony. She knew her status would be found out and everyone would think she's like the Malfoy's. Why couldn't Leeroy have been a Gryffindor to?

"Welcome Welcome! To another year at Hogwarts. Now I'd like to say a few words before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast." Dumbledore spoke now that the choir had completely left the stage, his voice echoing throughout the halls.

"First I'm pleased to welcome two new professors, Professor R. J. Lupin who has kindly accepted to fill the post of defense against the dark arts teacher. Good luck Professor." The man Rye had met on the train stood up allowing everyone to clap for him and he took a bow allowing everyone to clap for him. Alicia sat between him and Professor Snape, who refused to talk to her the entire time.

"We also welcome Professor A. K. Henris, who has accepted my invitation to take Professor Flitwick's spot for the coming year. Good luck to you as well Professor." Alicia stood up and took a small bow similar to the man who she had talked to previously, Remus. Since Professor Snape had refused to even mutter a syllable to her she chatted with Remus.

"Our care of magical creatures Professor for many years has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his Remaining limbs." Rye couldn't help but laugh at that thought, how many limbs had the Professor lost?

"Fortunately I am delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our own Rubeus Hagrid." Mcgonagall elbows a large man with a beard who begrudgingly stands up causing the table to almost topple over.

There was a loud whistling and clapping, more so than usual, from further back in the Gryffindor table. Rye smiled, hopefully that meant that he was a good professor to have.

"Finally, on a more disquieting note, at the request of the Ministry of Magic Hogwarts will until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban." Murmurs echoed through the halls of Hogwarts as everyone had their food forgotten on the table while they listened to the Headmaster. Rye couldn't believe her ears, they were allowing those soul suckers here?

"Until such a time as Sirius Black is captured. The dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds, Now whilst I've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities, a word of caution."

"Dementors are vicious creatures they will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. Therefore, i must warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you."

"It is not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving. But, you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest for times. If one only remembers to turn on the light."

All of the children and teachers ate thinking about the words the headmaster spoke. Rye didn't try talking to any of the first years around her, hopefully the girls she has as dorm mates are kind people. Perhaps she may even have Cynthia as a dorm mate, although Rye was unsure of how the girl felt about her.

Meanwhile, Roy was trying his best to avoid any questions about Rye. He eventually had the opportunity to introduce himself properly to the two Hufflepuffs. Telling them that he preferred to be called Roy over Leeroy. Rye still had a tendency to call him Leeroy and he did not understand why.

Eventually everyone began to make their way to their dorms where their Head of houses greeted them. Their prefects had brought all the first years to the lady in the painting, it appeared that the password this year for the Gryffindor common room was Fortuna Major. Once our prefect lead us in we were greeted by Professor Mcgongall who introduced herself as our head of house.

"I am your head of house, if you have any pressing matters you will come to me. I will also be your disciplinary, if you do any wrong I will be the one who's decides what to do with you." Mcgongall then separated the boys and girls into their respective dorms, which had five girls in each.

"I think I'll take this bed if that's alright?" Rye looked towards the other girls in her room, but all she found was dirty looks being passed at her.

"Oh but of course your majesty, take whatever suits you best." One of the girls snarked at Rye making a frown take over her features. Rye had picked the bed farthest to the left, next to the window. She had always loved to watch the stars in the sky while she read. She hadn't meant to cause any offense to the other girls.

"That's fine, It'll keep your filthy pure blood away from us." The other three girls, who Rye did not know the names of, chose the farthest beds from the girl. One even went as far as pushing their bed a little farther from her, the middle bed heading farther to the right now.

Cynthia also happened to be one of her dorm mates, although she didn't talk to any of the girls. Instead she took the only bed left, the one next to Rye. She didn't have many things on her, she did however have a small little mouse. It was a small grey mouse, who squeaked non-stop.

"Please shut up that mouse! It's giving me a headache." One of the other girls, the one with two black braids coming down her neck, spoke angered towards Cynthia.

"He's just n-not used to be around so many other an-animals yet! I'm sure he'll calm down soon." Cynthia's voice got higher and quicker as she stumbled her way through her sentence. She tried calming down the little mouse but it's eyes kept darting around to all of the other animals in the room. Everyone had some sort of pet, but the mouse was the only prey here.

Rye had her owl, while one of the other girls had a snowy owl as well. Then the other two girls had cats, well one had a kitten while the other had a full grown one. Rye put Sophocles blanket over its cage, causing him to coo softly in questioning.

"Maybe if you put a blanket over your owl to then the mouse will calm down a bit." Rye tried to ask nicely but the girl with the owl, the tallest girl with light brown hair which was up in a messy bun, glared at her.

"Oh yes because when her majesty asks we must do her bidding." The mouse continued to speak violently as the other owl began to screech when its eyes found the mouse. The owl jostled in its cage wanting to feed, "Shut that mouse up! It's angering my owl!"

"I. I. I." Cynthia stuttered unable to speak any words as the girl yelled at her. Her breathing became labored as tears threatened to well up in her eyes.

"I. I. I. Gosh you really are stupid, shut up that vermin now you pest!" Cynthia tried her hardest not to let the tears fall as she tried to calm down her mouse.

"Leave her alone." Rye stood walking towards the girls with anger in her eyes, "It's your fault that the mouse is squeaking in the first place."

"Oh shut up Pure Blood! You have no business being in this room with us." The other one, the one with light blonde hair snapped at Rye causing her to take a step back. These girls had so much hatred in their hearts for her even though they didn't even know her.

"She has more of a right then you!" Cynthia stood her hands shaking as she walked to stand beside Rye, "She's actually nice, you're just mean!"

"Come on Rye, we don't have to talk to them." Cynthia grabbed Rye's hand and pulled her back towards their beds. Rye could feel her hands shaking, yet still she was firm in her resolve.

Rye sat on her bed while Cynthia pushed her bed closer to Rye, not wanting to be near the other girls. Meanwhile the other girls were pushing their beds closer to each other so they didn't have to deal with the two other girls. Rye placed a blanket on the mouses cage hoping that it would calm him down.

"You didn't have to do that you know, now they're going to hate you to." Rye didn't want anyone else to be bullied, not for her, especially not Cynthia. Cynthia pushed up her glasses as she sat on top of her bed facing Rye.

"Y-you were a lot nicer to me than them even th-though you're a p-pure blood." Cynthia stuttered slightly still nervous, but she gave Rye a small smile.

"I never really cared much about blood, it was always just my mom and me." Rye got up to get into her chest, finding her book for magical creatures and getting it out, "I care more about someone's favorite book than I do about blood."

Rye gave the book to Cynthia, "I imagine you might like this one quite well."

"Thank you Rye, I'll make sure I read it tomorrow!" Cynthia sat the book next to bed on the nightstand, smiling at Rye, "We should try to go to sleep, we have flying early tomorrow morning."

"Best be well rested for that indeed, we shouldn't fall of our broom because we're too tired." One of the other girls had already turned off the lights, so all that was left was for the two girls to go to sleep themselves. They had flying with the Gryffindor class tomorrow.

Rye and Cynthia settled in there beds smiling to each other before closing their eyes ready to sleep. Cynthia fell asleep rather quickly, while Rye took longer to fall asleep. She wondered what Leeroy was doing now, hopefully he was having better luck with his dorm mates.

Meanwhile in another part of the castle there were a group of five hufflepuff boys playing a muggle card game known as uno. Bren had brought the cards and as it happened Leeroy was roommates with Bren. Along with three other boys, Finn, Nico, and Callum. Leeroy was having a better time than Rye, Reyna had been the only one to notice that he had walked in with Rye. So, he had no problem becoming friends with the other boys of his room. While the boys played, Leeroy couldn't help but let his mind wander to Rye. Was she having fun with her roommates to?

Thus ended the first night of Hogwarts with quite an uneventful ending. Leeroy continued to play his games with his friends while Rye tried her hardest to sleep, even though slept never came. Not until many hours later, around three she supposed by looking at the shadows the moon casted. That's how her mother had taught her to keep time, since she currently couldn't see the clock from her bed. Thus began a new year at Hogwarts.
