Pric-ess

Just a reminder of all the sides:

Logan: Logical

Roman: Fanciful/Creativity

Virgil: Anxiety

Patton: Morality

------

"Oh, oh! Is that him? Is that the one?" Patton jumped up excitedly and tapped Thomas on the shoulder with a squeal.

Thomas mentally responded to the giddy trait, "Yes, now be quiet." Though, he couldn't stifle a bit of joy himself, as his hand waved happily at the boy who walked by, sighing contently as they waved back.

"You must say something, Thomas, if you don't say anything they'll obviously think that you're merely an acquaintance." Logan suggested on Thomas' other side.

Thomas opened his mouth to say something and felt a pat on his back, causing him to stutter out his words. Rather than saying Hey! It came out as a string of high pitched mumbles. The other boy simply smiled awkwardly and continued on past Thomas.

Logan face-palmed with a groan, "What was tha-" He turned around with a growl, "Virgil what were you thinking!?" He folded his arms when he saw the trait of anxiety remove his hand from where he had slapped Thomas.

"What? Who isn't nervous around their crush?" Virgil shrugged.

"That doesn't give you the right to go around messing things up." Logan huffed.

"Logan has a point." Roman sighed.

"Watch it Hans."

Roman sniffed indignantly, "I will not be compared to that- that murderer!"

"Hey now!" Patton rubbed Roman's back reassuringly, "He only attempted to kill Anna and Elsa, right?"

Roman grumbled to himself, "Yeah..."

"See! I'm in with what the kids like these days!" Patton grinned, elbowing Logan on the arm.

"Oh my god, Frozen died a year ago." Virgil rolled his eyes.

"Now, son, don't be so negative." Patton chuckled.

"It's his job." Logan glared.

"Guys, come on." Thomas frowned, "Get along at least until we get home?"

"Whatever, I'm going to my room." Virgil stuck out his tongue at Logan a final time before vanishing, reappearing a few seconds later in the gloomier version of Thomas' room. He looked around and scowled at it all. Virgil would never admit it, but sometimes he wished that just a little bit of light could be brought into such a dark place; but that was as if saying that one could actually enjoy the throbbing feeling of anxiety and actually want it there.

The next day wasn't all that different, and why would it be anyway?
Virgil, of course, was kept busy in the background; Patton was keeping him company as per-usual as Logan was working with Thomas on obvious logical approaches to winning the heart of another.

Virgil was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a fit of grumbling approaching. He looked up to see Roman approaching with angry stomps. Virgil grinned, "What's wrong, Princey? Logan got your shoulder pads in a bunch?"

Roman shot a heated glare to Virgil before complaining, "He says Thomas should stop listening to the nonsense that I keep spitting at him!" Roman threw his hands up and started pacing, "As if he's even helping!" He remarked, "All Logan is doing is giving Thomas mindless remarks about posture and pheromones!- He's not even thinking about the romantic part of it all and how..."

Virgil snickered as Roman continued his rant. He couldn't help but admire the fire that the fanciful trait expressed. It was kinda' sweet how much Roman cared about Thomas' well being, or maybe he just wanted the attention; Either way, it was endearing.

Roman was still ranting, and Virgil couldn't help but smile just a bit at the sight of the royal's nose scrunched up angrily as he continued with his remarks on Logan.

Virgil blinked in confusion when he noticed that both Roman and Patton were now staring at him, "What?" Virgil squinted suspiciously.

"You just smiled!" Patton squeaked happily.

Virgil's face instantly turned a light shade of red, "Did not."

"I hate to admit it, hot topic, but- you did indeed smile." Roman chuckled.

"What, am I not allowed to?" Virgil scoffed.

"No, but it is a rare sight." Patton pointed out, "But, wonderful nonetheless!"

"Oh, shut up." Virgil rolled his eyes.

"Well that's no way to talk to your-" Patton began.

"You're not my dad- for god sake you're not any of our dads, Patton, you're as much Thomas as I am." Virgil slouched.

"We've all got our own traits, Virgil." Roman pointed out.

"Is yours to be an annoying littl-"

"Roman, you're needed!" Logan called from Thomas' side.

Roman perked up, "Good day!" He sprinted over to Logan and Thomas in a matter of seconds.

"Come on, Virgil! You and I can continue our puzzle!" Patton was already heading towards an abandoned puzzle on the ground.

"I think...I'll...watch..." Virgil shrugged.

"Well, if you'd like some bonding time, I'll always be here!" Patton chuckled.

"Mhm." Virgil hummed as he came to a stop behind Thomas, Logan, and Roman.

"Alright; now, Roman, when he comes by, I️ want you to use your...cheesiest pick up line, got it?" Logan ordered reluctantly.

"Cheesy?" Roman crossed his arms, "I prefer the term traditional." He corrected Logan.

"Fine, what ever you'd like to call it." Logan waved his hand dismissively.

Virgil watched with interest as Thomas' current dwelling approached.

Roman instantly started instructing Thomas on exactly what to do and say.

"Alright, Thomas. You're going to start it off with a firm shake of the hand." Roman seemed to faze into Thomas as he gave the instructions, capable of grabbing the boy's hand- Place a gentle kiss to their hand, causally now, casually..." He bent his head and placed a gentle kiss to the top of the other's hand; much to the boy's surprise.

Virgil couldn't exactly figure out why, though truthfully, if he really thought on it, he probably could, but he felt a poke at his chest; he simply ignored it for the time being.

"And tell him, Darling, would you be so kind as to be my princess...if I'll be your prince?" The line came out seconds after Roman originally said it.

However, before Thomas could completely finish the sentence Virgil felt a sudden, sharp twist in the left side of his chest and instinctively struck forward and slammed Thomas on the shoulder with his hand, causing him to use the word pric instead of prince.

The boy instantly gave Thomas an absurd look.

Logan whipped around immediately and stalked towards Virgil, looming over him, "Virgil...what...were...you... thinking?" He hissed, "You totally screwed that up for all of us!" He poked Virgil on the chest for emphasis.

Patton immediately came rushing forward, "Take it easy boys, this is no way to solve an argum-"

"But he always does this!" Logan shouted, a cold, dead glare on Virgil, "He doesn't even care! All he wants to do is mess things up- always."

Virgil took in a deep breath and stood up as straight as he could, "You don't know anything."

"My trait is logic and knowledge! I know more than you!" Logan spat back.

"I'm doing my best, alright?" Virgil crossed his arms.

"Well, your best isn't even close to Roman's least." Logan fought back.

"Stooping as low as to offend two of us now, aye brainy?" Virgil stepped forward with a glare.

"At least we're actually wanted!" Logan yelled.

Virgil felt the familiar pound of loneliness in his chest as well as his breathing pick up.

This phrase particularly bothered him, it always had, but today, today he just wasn't- he couldn't- take it. He balled his hands into fists and stormed off, letting only a few tears slip from the corner of his eyes before fleeing to his room.

"Oh great." Logan rubbed his temple with a groan.

"That wasn't very nice, Logan..." Patton frowned.

"Yeah, I know, I know." Logan sighed, "I didn't think he'd take it that offensively though! Honestly, You know how anxiety is, he hardly lets anything faze him." Logan murmured.

"I'll go bring him some puzzles and tea." Patton suggested, already turning heel to leave.

Roman cleared his throat, "I've got this."

Patton cocked his head, his attention turning to the previously silent trait, and responding with Logan in union, "Really?"

"Well, why not?" Roman chirped with gathering heat to his face.

Logan took a few steps forward, "Well...you two aren't exactly...the closest pair."

"That doesn't mean I don't care." Roman crossed his arms with a slight tilt up of his chin.

"But he did just ruin your time in the spotlight." Logan pointed out.

"Not necessarily." Roman pointed to Thomas and the other boy who was currently giggling at Thomas' word mix up, "Seems fine to me, that's all I say." Roman shrugged.

"You're defending him now?" Logan furrowed his brow, perplexed.

"I'm not o-ffended him at least." Roman suggest with a raise of an eyebrow.

Logan looked away in embarrassment, "Fine; just...don't further mess things up for me..."

"I shall try." Roman grinned, skipping off towards the other's room.

Roman entered the shadowy living room and looked around for any sign of movement, grinning respectively at the Nightmare Before Christmas posters before focusing on his original motive. He listened intently for any sound of Virgil but didn't find anything at first. He continued through the house and headed towards the usual location of the gloomy-trait's room, stopping at the door to hear mumbled murmurs coming from inside.

Roman knocked quickly and quietly on the door; he then gently twisted the knob and entered the room, "Virgil?" He called in a hushed voice, looking around before spotting a slumped over figure in the corner of the gray room. Roman started heading over and crouched down a few feet in front of him.

Virgil looked up and let his gaze focus on the face in front of him- it was his face of course but...happier..."Roman...?"

"Virgil..., were you...crying?" Roman casually brushed his hand across Virgil's tear stained cheeks and indeed felt that they were damp.

"No! No...I️- don't touch me..." Virgil growled before he pulled his hood over his head to cover up the dusted blush on his face.

"Just asking, yeesh..." Roman sighed and sat down across from the hissed figure, still keeping a foot between himself and Virgil, "Are you...alright?" Roman felt awkward acting truly sincere around his usual nemesis. It wasn't as if they hated each other, but they typically never were this close. Not that Roman was complaining, of course.

"Oh,
of course I am, that's why I'm in my room crying." Virgil gave a big, sarcastic, grin before slumping it down into a look of a glare and grimace.

"So you were crying?" Roman raised an eyebrow.

"ShUt up.." Virgil's voice cracked.

Roman frowned, moving to sit beside Virgil, "It's okay to let your guard down, you realize, right?"

"I'm not letting my guard down...I'm just...I'm allowed to be upset, aren't I?" Virgil slunk further down against the wall of his room.

"Yes, but you're also allowed to share that with others."

"What if I don't want to?" Virgil narrowed his eyes.

"Well...then that's your choice." Roman nodded before continuing, "But...could you at least tell me why you did it?"

"Did what?" Virgil shifted uncomfortably.

"You...kind of...interrupted? Why'd you make Thomas...mess up?" Roman selected his choice of words carefully.

"I don't know." Virgil muttered.

"Are you sure?" Roman inched closer to Virgil comfortingly, "Were you mad...- I️ understand how it feels to not have the center of attention and spotl-"

"I wasn't mad, I was just-" Virgil shook his head, "Why are you even here?"

"I was worried..." Roman shrugged shyly.

"About me?" Virgil scoffed in disbelief.

"Well, it was either me or Patton, and I'm pretty sure he would have just thoroughly annoyed you." Roman chuckled.

Virgil gave a soft smirk, "That's...probably true..." he sighed, folding his arms, "Um..." he cleared his throat.

"Yeah?" Roman turned to Virgil.

"Is it okay if I was..." Virgil could feel himself growing anxious, ironic for himself usually but seemingly appropriate for this matter, "Is it okay if I was uh...was...jealous?" Virgil instantly regretted his spoken words, feeling as if the one word cut through all his morals of being 'The tough one'

"Of...what...exactly...?" Roman felt his heart rate pick up with hope he hadn't realized he was depending on.

"It's really stupid- never mind." Virgil rested his chin on his knees which were now pressed up to his chest.

"Of what?" Roman repeated, "I'll just keep asking." He leaned forward with a sly grin.

Virgil chuckled a little, "Of you, idiot- Just of...you and helping Thomas with that boy and..." Virgil groaned, "Yeah I know, like I️ said, it's really stupid but whatever.." Virgil shrugged and opened his mouth to change the topic as quickly as possible before Roman could-

"But...why?" Roman continued.

Virgil muttered some curses to himself before sighing in defeat, "I just...I-I don't know I just-... I appreciate you Roman..."

"Appreciate me as in...appreciate me as a person or a-"

"Like a..." Virgil thought for a second,
"Like a prince appreciates a princess?" Virgil inwardly cringed and stared at the exit with deep longing in his eyes.

Roman's eyes widened and his face turned a brilliant shade of red, "Oh...Oh!"

Virgil simply shrugged nonchalantly as he could and hid his face once again in his hoodie.

"Well...I suppose I...I want you to be my princess then!"

"Excuse me...?" Virgil turned his head to see Roman looking at him with shining eyes.

"Sorry, let me rephrase that-" Roman puffed out his chest and stood up, slowly and carefully holding out his hand, with slight hesitation, "May I rescue you...princess?"

Virgil looked up with a sigh, "You're such a dork, huh?"

"We shall wed tomorrow!" Roman pronounced, winking at Virgil kiddingly.

"Dork." Virgil rolled his eyes, "Prince dorks-a-lot."

"If that's to be so." Roman shrugged.

"Just...please don't tell either of the others, okay? I won't hear the end of this otherwise." Virgil groaned as he accepted Roman's hand reluctantly and was hoisted to his feet.

"Oh, it's quite too late for that!" Patton peaked out from the crack of the room's door, waving a camera high, "Don't worry, I️ even got pictures! So we can always remember this!"

Virgil's face went completely red and he hid quickly behind Roman, burying his face in the other's back as if it would make him disappear, and he really hoped it worked.

"Now, that's not very positive." Patton frowned.

"It's anxiety, what do you expect?" Logan peeked out above Patton.

"You're here too- of course you are." Virgil's voice was pitched in embarrassment.

"I just came to say...S...so...-" Logan took a breath.

"Don't hurt yourself there." Virgil remarked sarcastically.

"Sorry." Logan sighed out.

"...Fine." Virgil murmured.

Roman grinned, "He's shy."

"You don't know that." Virgil squeaked.

"Well we are the same person." Roman shrugged.

"Talk about truly loving yourself!" Patton chuckled at his own joke.

Virgil sighed, "Whatever...just...go away." He growled.

"Aw, my little boy is all grown up!" Patton stepped forward to pinch the two other traits on the cheeks, much to Virgil's dislike, "Let's give them some privacy now, Logan." Patton winked before exiting the room.

Logan paused before turning around, "Opposites scientifically do attract, I suppose." He shrugged, then following Patton.

"...So are you going to continue hiding, or?" Roman began moving to turn to Virgil, embracing him in a small hug.

"Could you not?" Virgil murmured, he hated to admit a lot of things, but most of all hated to admit that he  sometimes...it's nice to let a little light in. Maybe, Roman could be that little bit of light. And maybe then, maybe then...Virgil would actually be wanted.
