Virgil sat on the couch next to one of his best friends, as the other was seated on an armchair close by. He felt nervous. Patton had asked him, earlier in the day, to come into the living room at 5pm that afternoon, giving no further information. Virgil complied nonetheless, but still, the shortest one was completely oblivious as to why he'd been summoned to this apartment-meeting.

Every time he'd try to say something, ask a question, his throat would tighten up and the words would die before they escaped his mouth. Noticing his stiff and uneasy demeanor, Patton placed a hand on top of his friend's shaking one, and squeezed it reassuringly, reminding Virgil that this way just him and Logan, and that nothing bad would happen.

At precisely what the clock in front of the couch signs as 5:07, Logan's phone vibrates. Virgil can only see his screen from a weird point of view, but still notices it's a text. Who from, he has no idea.

Suddenly, after Logan nods to him, reading the text, Patton speaks up. "So, Virge...-"

At the mention of his name, the anxious one's head turns quickly to face his friend. "-We know it hasn't been easy since Roman left for Spain a year ago, so we thought we'd organize a small surprise! Logan got hold of his new phone number, because as you know his old one broke almost as soon as he arrived, and we organized video call! It's wasn't that easy because of your different jobs and time zones, but if you're up to it, we call him now....?"

Virgil felt his muscles relax and stiffen at the same rime as he thought of Roman. They'd admitted their feelings for each other barely a week before Roman's departure, and now? Well, the anxious one missed him more than he'd ever imagined missing someone in his life.

So, he nodded, and his logical friend handed him the phone. He surveyed the screen, going over every detail, tracing every letter of Roman's name with his eyes, until his trembling finger finally pressed the call button. Then,  he waited.

And waited.

And waited.

The phone ringed, but no one answered. As the call ended itself, asking if he wanted to send him a message or try again later, Virgil's shaking hand shut off the phone and threw it across the couch. And now, there was silence once more.

Virgil was too devastated about his hope being crushed, so he didn't glance  up to look at his roommates, who he assumed were more confused than anything. Neither of them would do this on purpose, although he was surprised that neither, especially Patton, had reached forward to comfort him.

Suddenly, a door clicked as someone opened it. But in his partially anxious state, Virgil only acknowledged small, separate gestures, like the guest cleaning their shoes on the entrance mat, them hanging their coat, the jingling of keys as they threw them in the fruit bowl on the table...

At that sound, the shorter one felt his heart skip a beat. Only Roman threw his keys in the fruit bowl. He looked up, eyes a tad blurry from the slight tears he hadn't even noticed had escaped him until now, and saw him.

He blinked once, then twice, rubbing his eyes afterwards. He was convinced this must be a joke, or hell, maybe even a ghost or a hallucination! 

That is until the tall, handsome figure in red spoke. 

"Did you miss me?"

The smirk on his face, the curls in his hair, the mischievousness in his tone...Everything about Roman coming back sent a jolt through Virgil, but not one of panic, like he was used to, but one of pure joy and happiness as he ran forward to hug the other who hugged him back, one crying out the happiest tears of his life, the other vibrating with excitement as he littered the paler one's face with small kisses.

Panting, exhausted by the strong feeling and big hug, they leaned away from the other slightly, still maintaining eye contact. 

"S-So, Princey...You're back?"

A grin made its way onto Roman's lips at the nickname, as he responded "I am-", and he gave Virgil one final kiss on the tip of his nose.

"And I'm never gonna leave you again."
