Pumpkin Spice (Logicality)

TW: Kinda spoilers for the Dear Evan Hansen book? But nothing else, pure fluff.

College au

{Third Person POV}

Patton wrapped his knitted sky blue scarf around his neck as he walked outside of his apartment building and out into the crisp, autumn air, his glasses beginning to fog up from his breath circulating on his scarf.

He didn't mind though and continued walking down the street, orange and red and yellow leaves crunching under his beige, faux fur boots with each step.

He listened happily with each crunch, deliberately stepping on leaves just to hear the satisfying noise as he walked, which delayed where he was going by a few minutes.

Though after a few more minutes of walking he soon arrived at his location, a small coffee shop colored a warm melon orange with mustard yellow accents outside, it was decorated with pumpkins on the windowsills with carvings and paintings on them, left over from Halloween just a few days ago.

The big twin windows showed the inside of the shop perfectly, the fairy lights inside creating a warm glow for the few people inside.

He smiled at seeing who he was looking for, he was sitting at a two person table, his bag on the ground close to the wall, reading a book Patton didn't recognize, the small menus from the shop in front of him, one at the spot where Patton was going to sit.

He grinned and walked inside, being met with a much warmer temperature, his glasses fogging up even more.

He smelled pumpkin spice too, lots of it. Pumpkin spice pancakes, pumpkin spice lattes, and pumpkin spice candles, he also seen pumpkin spice cookies, cakes, and other sweets in the display case by the counter.

He loved it, he didn't think it was too much at all, it was just perfect.

He walked over to where he seen Logan, who was still reading his book and had his own scarf on the back of his chair, the one Patton had made him as soon as autumn began.

He gave all their friends one, but on Logan's, which was a deep navy blue, he added on a small pink heart at the bottom of it.

He remembered when Logan first noticed it, which was almost immediately, he blushed almost the exact shade of pink and put it on, showing off the small heart for others to see, yet not saying a word about it.

He was also had his black pea coat draped over the chair, the one that, when Patton first saw, had called a Sherlock jacket.

It also looked scratchy on the outside, which Patton didn't like when trying to give Logan a hug, but he also knew it was soft on the inside because of a time Patton had forgotten his and Logan given him his own.

He continued staring at Logan for a moment, watching him become totally immersed in his book and the storyline, his face resting atop his hand, which was propped up as he flicked to the next page.

Patton snapped out of his little staring situation and smiled, sitting across from Logan and slipping his scarf and jacket off, draping then over the back of the chair like Logan had.

"Why were you staring at me for two and a half minutes?" Logan asked, looking up at Patton, who's face tinted a light shade of pink.

"I dunno," he answered eventually, shrugging and looking over to the side. Logan just look so invested in his book, his eyes scanning the words and black framed glasses of his slipping down just a bit, it was cute.

Logan smiled and put his bookmark in on the page he was on, shutting the book.

"Alright, well why don't you look at the menu and see what you want? I already looked over it myself." He said, pushing his glasses up and putting his book in his bag.

"You didn't have to wait Lo! I was just taking a while." Patton said as he picked up the small menu, opening it up as he spoke.

"It's fine Patton, it's not going to hurt me to wait a little longer." He reassured the other, making a small waving motion with his hand.

"But why did it take you a little longer?" He asked, looking over at Patton.

Patton smiled, still reading over the menu as he did, "Just playing around with some leaves."

Logan playfully rolled his eyes, "I had a feeling that was it."

Patton giggled quietly as the waitress walked over to the two, "Oh, quiet you." He told him as she arrived.

"Good afternoon, do you two know what you want?" She asked, clicking her pen and awaiting their orders.

Logan looked over at Patton, who nodded. Logan nodded himself and turned to the young lady, "Yes please, I would like the flowering hibiscus tea and a slice of the pumpkin spice cake."

Patton flashed him a look as the waitress wrote down his order before turning to Patton, "And you?"

"Hot chocolate and pumpkin spice pancakes, please." Patton said and she nodded.

"Do you want anything extra on the pancakes or hot chocolate? Powdered sugar or anything?" She asked and Patton thought for a moment.

"Yeah, powdered sugar and syrup for the pancakes, and whipped cream on the hot chocolate please."

"'Kay got it, your orders will be out shortly." She told them before walking off, the two unanimously thanking her.

Patton smiled and turned to look at his boyfriend, "I thought you didn't like pumpkin spice."

Logan couldn't help but smile, "I don't. But it sounded alright enough and I'd like to try something new."

Patton hummed, "Alright, just wondering."

There was silence between the two for a moment, the two simply staring at the other with smiles on their faces.

Eventually Logan spoke, "So how was the walk over?"

"It was nice, the leaves were really pretty! Fall's really pretty, it's cozy and warm and has all the pumpkin spice stuff."

Logan hummed, "Yeah, pumpkin spice and the cold."

Patton sighed dramatically, "Goodness, you're so..." He took a moment "Darn, what's the word?"

"Describe it."

"Where you don't look on the bright side."

"Pessimistic?" Logan suggested, Patton snapping and pointing, "Yeah, that! You're pessimistic, and you can't do that in fall."

"Why, exactly?" Logan asked as their drinks arrived.

"Because." Patton responded, swiping a dollop of whipped cream off from the mug of hot chocolate, along with a few chocolate shavings that were sprinkled on top, licking it off of his finger.

"Because?" Logan questioned, taking a spoon and stirring sugar into his tea.

"Because it's November." Patton stated, Logan looking up at him, confused, "What does that have to do with anything?"

"Uh, because your birthday's tomorrow? Did you forget again?" Patton asked, wiping his saliva-cobered finger on a nearby napkin..

"No, I just haven't been thinking about it." Logan responded, picking up his teacup and taking a sip of his drink.

"How do you not think about your own birthday?! It's your birthday!" Patton exclaimed, Logan staring at him for a few moments.

"You're really passionate about birthdays, aren't you?" He asked, the rest of their orders arriving at the table.

"Yep! Now, what do you wanna do for yours?" Patton asked, pouring syrup from the small cup and onto his pancakes.

"I really don't want to do anything for it." He said, cutting a slice of his cake, "But, we can just come here with the others sometime in the afternoon and us two can go for dinner later." He added, knowing Patton would most likely make him do something for his birthday, even if it was something small.

"Ooh, I like that! But I'm still gonna plan a little surprise for you, and we all already got you presents."

"And what's the surprise going to be?" He asked as Patton cut off some of his pancake, taking a bite.

Patton took a second, chewing and swallowing before exclaiming, "I can't tell you that, then it wouldn't be a surprise!" He smiled happily, "Besides, it's special, it's gonna be just you and me."

"You and I." Logan corrected before taking a bite of his cake.

Patton huffed, "You and I." He repeated with a smile still on his face.

"Correct. Now, can you give me a hint on what the surprise is?"

"Goodness, you're so impatient, no wonder nobody throws you surprises." Patton said, finally taking a sip of his now a little cooler drink.

"That and I usually figure it out if they give me a hint."

"Well now I'm defiantly not telling you."

Logan sighed, "Guess I shouldn't have told you that."

"Nope!" Patton exclaimed, popping the P as he did.

"Now, hurry and finish your food, I wanna walk home with you."

"We live in different apartment buildings." Logan pointed out, slicing another piece of cake.

"Then you can stay the night! I like when you do anyways and Vee, if I remember, is gonna be working late, so we'll have some alone time until like, midnight."

"Why is Virgil working until midnight?"

Patton shrugged, "Dunno. I really wish he wouldn't though, then it messes with his sleep and he'll end up sleeping almost all day."

"We should talk to him about that." Logan said, Patton nodding in agreement.

"Hey, what book were you reading?" He asked, taking another sip of his hot chocolate, some of the whipped cream staying on his upper lip.

"Dear Evan Hansen, Roman suggested it to me." Logan replied, picking up a napkin and handing it to Patton.

"Isn't that a musical?" Patton questioned, wiping at his face and getting the whipped cream off.

"It was a book first. Roman suggested it to me saying that it went in depth with the characters more." Logan told him, taking the last bite of his cake and sip of his tea, "It's actually amazing how they portray Evan's anxiety, being so accurate with it and his internal battle, and how the point of views switch between Evan and Connor is a really great touch."

Patton hummed happily, listening to his boyfriend talk about Dear Evan Hansen and the other book he was reading as he finished his pancakes and hot chocolate.

When Logan finished talking Patton smiled, "That sounds amazing Lo, it's great how much you get..." Patton thought for a moment, trying to come up with the right word, "Invested. Yeah, that. How invested you get in the story and it's characters, noticing how they behave and stuff, I think that makes you seem even smarter."

Patton smiled at the end of his statement, Logan staring at him for a moment in awe before breaking into a smile himself.

"Thank you, Patton. That's sweet of you."

"No problem Lo. Now are you done with your tea?" Patton asked as he began standing up, taking his jacket and scarf off the chair.

Logan took another sip of his tea, emptying it, "I am now," he said as he stood up himself, putting on his jacket and scarf, picking his bag up from the floor as Patton happily walked over to the counter.

Logan followed behind and pulled his wallet out, just as Patton did.

"I'm paying." He stated before Patton had said anything, "You can pay for dinner tomorrow, how's that?"

Patton huffed but nodded, "Yeah, okay."

So, after Logan had paid for the two, they walked out into the street, Patton with his arm looped in Logan's, so they were subtly touching in some way as they walked to Patton's apartment building.

Patton noticed Logan looked absolutely miserable, his glasses fogged up thanks to his scarf.

Patton's glasses were fogged up as well, but he reached up just a bit and petted Logan's hair, Logan looking from ahead of them and at Patton.

"What are you doing?" Logan asked, Patton taking his hand away from his hair and shrugging.

"I dunno. Do you want me to stop though?"

"No, it's fine, I was just confused." Logan replied, looking back ahead.

"Well you just looked miserable, well from what I could see, half of your face is hidden by your scarf and your glasses are all foggy." He explained, twirling Logan's hair as they arrived at his apartment building.

"I'm not miserable, just cold." Logan defended as the two walked inside.

"Alright, well it's not like we walked far. You're fine." Patton told him, the two climbing the stairs up to where Patton and Virgil's apartment was, which was just on the second floor.

Logan nodded, "You're right."

Patton smiled, "Yep. Now," they arrived at the apartment, Patton taking out his keys and unlocking it.

"Let's go plan for tomorrow."

I'M SO TIRED, OH MY GOD.

BUT I GOT SO MUCH SLEEP.

UGH.

Anyways, hoped y'all liked that, and I swear I'll try to get a chapter out for Logan's birthday.

I'm actually not going to school tomorrow, so I will have more time to work on it.

Also, despite the fact I've read this over twice, I bet you all fifty cents that something's messed up.

Anyways,

Bi~❤💛💚💙💜
