Ballroom Dancing (Logicality)

Victorian au

{Third Person POV}

"Lo, am I even allowed to do anything?"

Logan sighed and readjusted his glasses, the light from the chandeliers bouncing off the lenses and hiding his tired eyes for a split second.

He opened his mouth and Patton half-expected for him to give up on keeping him over by the windows and let him wander around, though he didn't, instead doing what seemed to be the complete opposite. "First of all, that's not my name. Second, no. Your father specifically stated that yo-"

"That's not fair, I at least want to dance!" Patton exclaimed and Logan gestured for him to quiet down, putting his pointer finger up to his closed lips.

"Patton, please quiet down, you're going to cause a ruckus." He told the other, removing his finger from his lips and instead using his hand to gesture to the rest of the ballroom.

"Besides, there are no more women to dance with you."

Patton huffed, crossing his arms over his neatly pressed outfit, Logan immediately reaching over and removing his arms, smoothing down his vest and jacket.

"You're going to ruin this if you keeping crossing your arms." He said as he finished smoothing the outfit, adjusting the other's pearl white cravat when he did.

Patton sighed once again, "Why do I even have to dance with a girl?" He asked and Logan looked up from tightening the cravat and at Patton, locking eye contact between the two.

"Why do you ask so many questions?"

Patton throught for a moment, Logan looking back down and deciding that Patton's tie looked close enough to perfect and letting go of it.

"I don't know." Patton decided, crossing his arms and creasing his outfit right after Logan had fixed it. "I guess I'm just curious." He added with a shrug, Logan going back and smoothing his jacket.

"That would make sense." Logan said, backing away after he finished. Again.

Once he did Logan stood by one of the large windows again, Patton standing next to him as the song ended, reverting back to slow music.

As the soft opening of a piano started, followed by gentle string music drifted through the large room, the clacking from shoes made a rhythmic sound against the hardwood floor.

The two watched as pairs, each one a man and a woman, elegantly danced across the room, petticoats gliding just above the floor and tailcoats swiftly swinging through the air.

Patton smiled at seeing one man dip a woman, breaking the cycle of how everyone else was dancing, the woman letting out a light laugh as she was brought back up, the smile staying on her face as they continued, not going in the same order as everyone else.

He found it cute. The genuine, happy smiles on both of their faces contrasted with everybody else's composed smiles, or even no smiles at all.

He wanted that.

"Logan," he began, Logan turning and looking over in a silent reply, fixing his glasses as he did.

"You never answered my question." He said with a playful smile, facing Logan.

"Which one?" Logan asked as Patton propped his own glasses up on his nose.

"Why do I have to dance with a girl?" He repeated and Logan sighed, looking back ahead at the rest of the guests.

"You just have to Patton, okay?"

"But they're all dancing! How can I possibly dance with a girl if they're already dancing?" Patton said and Logan sighed for what felt like the millionth time that night, putting his hand up and massaging his temple with his fingers as he turned back to Patton.

"How badly do you want to dance?" He asked and Patton thought, tapping his gloved forefinger against his chin.

Eventually he replied, "Really, really, really, really, really, real-"

"Okay, that's enough." Logan interrupted, Patton stopping with a small smile.

After a second of thought and Patton smiling at him with hopeful eyes Logan gave in.

"Fine. You can dance."

Patton's small smile broke into a wide grin and he jumped up in excitement, "Oh, finally!" He exclaimed, taking both of Logan's hands in his own, Logan's eyes widening in surprise as Patton squeezed his hands just a little too tight. "Okay, who am I dancing with?" He asked, letting go of his hands as quickly as he grabbed them.

"Well, I-" Logan tried to find the right words, "Since I'm the only other person, I would reccomend myself, though you don't have to, as-"

"No, no, no, I'd love to! It sounds fun and I really, really wanna dance!" He exclaimed and Logan nodded.

"Okay, I'm glad you agreed." He said with a nod, "But who-" He cut himself off as Patton grabbed one of his hands, dragging him to the closest spot on the dance floor as the song ended.

"Patton!" Logan whispered as Patton happily put his feet in place, reminding himself where his hands went as Logan spoke.

"Wait- No, Patton," Logan took the other's hand and Patton looked up from the floor as the music began slowly.

Logan moved the two out of the way of everyone else, back by the windows. "First, we need to figure out where our hands go-"

"Oh, that's easy! I'll put mine on your waist." Patton exclaimed, and Logan felt his heart rate rise dramatically at the thought of Patton's hands anywhere near his waist.

"I- Uh, no, no we won't do that." He stuttered out, heat rising to his face. It's probably because of embarrassment from stuttering. He thought, deciding that must be the reason.

"Ah, okay." Patton said with a nod, "How about you put your hands on my waist?"

Somehow, Logan's already high heart rate doubled, and he was sure he would die any second because of it, and he shook his head.

"No, no, we cannot do that." He mumbled and Patton tilted his head, "But that's how we do the dance. We have to do one of them."

Logan nodded, "Right, right. We'll do the first one." He decided, the words slipping through his lips without him wanting them to.

Patton smiled, "Great!" He exclaimed just as the song ended, perfect timing for them to join in the next one.

And, once the song began, Patton immediately guided the two through the dance, Logan muttering for him to slow down.

Patton did so and Logan was able to catch up, looking up from his feet and as Patton, the two's eyes meeting.

Patton smiled happily, crinkles by his eyes as he did and eyes sparkling behind his glasses, Logan taking in the sight of how happy he was.

Logan smiled back politely, and though Patton knew it wasn't a genuine, happy smile, he was fine with it.

As the two danced their way slowly through the ballroom, music flowing around them and, paired with the warm lighting, creating a heavenly atmosphere for the two of them, the two felt as if everything was perfect.

Patton, who had been staring at the other with such fondness in his eyes Logan was sure he was going to explode because of it, spoke.

"I can see my reflection in your glasses." He said with a content smile.

Logan, amused, raised a brow. "Really?"

Patton nodded, "Yep!"

Logan mirrored Patton's content smile, "I can see myself in yours." He said and Patton tittered, looking down at the ground with a wide smile.

He looked back up and Logan truly couldn't help it, he mirrored that smile as well.

Patton stopped for a split second, startled by the sight of Logan smiling.

He wasn't used to it, to such a happy look on the other, he thought it was pretty to see.

He decided he liked it.

Though soon, the smile went back to a calm one.

Patton pouted, Logan noticing and knitting his brows together in concern.

"What's wrong?" He asked, and Patton spoke, "You're not smiling anymore."

"And?"

"It looked pretty." Patton said, Logan feeling a sudden heat wash over his face.

"I'm sorry, did you say pretty?" He asked, clearing his throat, asking just to make sure he heard correctly.

"You looked pretty. It looked pretty. Y-you're smile did." He clarified, suddenly aware of what he had said and sure that Logan thought he was odd because of the compliment.

Though he was wrong, and Logan instead broke into a smile, a visible tint of pink spread across his cheeks.

"Thank you." He responded, and Patton smiled as well, the same blush on his face.

"Well it's true."

The two continued dancing, and as they did, people cleared away from the two, astonished at the sight as they ever so slowly made their way to the center.

When they did, Patton's smile turned mischievous.

Logan noticed, "What are yo-"

He got cut off by suddenly getting dipped by the other, glasses slipping down just a bit as he was.

He was pulled back up though and was met with Patton's gentle laughter.

Logan made an angry face, though it was ruined by the smile on his face. "What's so funny?"

Patton continued laughing a bit as he pulled his hands away, using them to readjust the other's glasses, which were crooked.

His gloved hand brushed on Logan's cheek, Logan feeling a sudden flutter at the contact, though it didn't last long, as Patton pulled his hands away.

"There. All fixed." He said with a satisfied smile.

"Yes, thank you for fixing it." Logan said with a nod.

"No problem." Patton said, putting one hand back on his waist and intertwining his other hand with Logan's free hand.

"Now it's your turn."

"Wait, wha-"

Logan dipped Patton as well, Patton letting out a surprised shriek at the action, his own glasses slipping down.

He was brought back up and laughed, fixing his own glasses as he spoke.

"I should've expected that." He said, looking at Logan.

"Yes, you should have." Logan agreed, intertwining the two's hands again, Patton feeling his heartbeat speed up.

"Yeah," he breathed out, sure that he was overheating when he felt how flushed his face was.

He was then aware of the silence in the room, but ignored it, knowing that it was the band switching songs.

But the silence felt as if it were stretching forever as he looked at Logan, just noticing how his eyes were staring back with something he couldn't quite name, but he knew it was something that made his chest flutter and skin feel hot.

Once the song finally started, the two danced.

They danced and danced and danced until Patton eventually felt his feet start to hurt.

"Goodness, this hurts." He complained as he limped over to a nearby bench, sinking down into the cushion as Logan shot him and amused look.

"Oh, but you wanted dance so badly." He said in a teasing tone, Patton rolling his eyes playfully.

"Oh shush." He said as Logan sat next to him, the two's hands just barely touching.

There was silence between them as the two looked around, Patton looking out the window and into the night sky, where stars were barely able to be seen.

"Hey Lo,"

"Yes?" He responded, not bothering to correct the other.

"I want to go outside."

Logan turned to the other, "What? No, that's too dangerous."

"Yeah, but you said that I wasn't allowed to dance, but I had fun!" He said and smiled, "You did too." He added, and Logan nodded.

"That's true. Bu-"

"Oh come on," Patton moved his hand from where it was barely touching Logan's, instead putting it on his shoulder.

"At least to the gazebo, pretty please?" He asked, and Logan slumped against the wall.

"Fine. We'll go to the gazebo."

Patton squealed happily, throwing himself into a hug with the other.

Logan made a small noise of shock with the action, but eventually hugged back, wrapping his arms around the other in comfort.

Patton soon pulled away though, though he was still close enough for them to only be inches away.

He noticed that if he just went the tiniest bit closer their lips would meet, or if someone bumped into him.

He quickly shook the idea away, pulling away and standing up, taking hold of Logan's hand and pulling him up.

"Well let's go!"

The two made their way through the castle, eventually finding a door that led out to the garden, where the stone gazebo was just ahead of them.

Patton led the two out and they found a small flagstone walkway, surrounded by flowers rising up, a few brushing just under the two's knees.

Patton decided to bend down and pick one, standing back up and showing it to Logan.

"What's the name of this?" He asked, handing the white flower to Logan.

Logan took the flower, trying to brush off how he liked the thought of Patton giving him a flower, knowing it was purely innocent and just to know the name of the thing.

"I believe it's a lily." He said, handing it back to Patton.

"No, you can keep it." Patton said nonchalantly, quietly hoping that Logan liked the flower.

Logan flushed a bit but smiled, keeping the item in his hand as they walked.

Once they arrived at the gazebo, which was iron with pillars and benches in the gazebo, made from the same material.

Above it was a glass roof, rounded out to fit the way the gazebo was made.

They walked in and sat down, Patton still having a hold on Logan's hand as they did.

He looked up at the glass roof, seeing the stars sparkle above them in the dark sky.

Logan attempted to do the same, but couldn't shake off the urge to pull the other close and just stay like that under the stars.

He tried to ignore it, looking up to see if he could find any constellations in the sky.

"Lo," Patton looked back down and at Logan, who looked down himself. "Thanks for disobeying my dad and letting me come out."

Logan smiled, "You're welcome. Even if your father will get mad."

Patton nodded, "Well don't worry, he won't." He intertwined their fingers, "I'll make sure."

Logan stared and Patton continued. "Besides, it's not like he can do anything ba-"

Logan leaned over and pressed the two's lips together. It was weird because Patton was midway through a sentence and Logan acted on pure impulse, but he was able to feel how soft the other's lips were.

It ended quickly, as he pulled away and put his hand to his own lips in shock.

"Oh my- I'm so sorry, I just-" He stuttered out apologizes as he stood up, letting go of Patton's hand and trying to rush away from the gazebo.

Patton stood up though and grabbed him again, this time by his wrist.

"Patton, I-" He was cut off by Patton pulling him into a kiss, his words trailing off as he tentatively kissed back, not quite wanting the other to pull away.

This kiss was much better, much less teeth as they eased into it, a warm feeling circling in Logan's chest, sure that Patton could somehow feel it as well.

Although soon they had to pull away, smiles on both of their faces as they looked at the other.

Patton pulled him close and kissed his cheek, using his hand to cup the other.

Logan felt warm all over, a fuzziness in his mind as Patton pressed another kiss on his cheek.

"Logan?"

He hummed as Patton pulled away, keeping his hand in the same spot and softly using his thumb to caress the area.

"I wanna dance again." He said with a smile, Logan letting out a breathy laugh and gently pulling himself out of the soft touch. "Alright, well let's go inside."

"No, I wanna dance out here."

Logan gave a bemused look, "Patton, there's no music."

"That's okay! I can just hum a song." He said happily, repositioning his hands, Logan giving in and doing the same.

Patton began quietly humming, trying to dance to the tune as he did, Logan following behind.

"I don't think we're doing this correctly." Logan stated, Patton laughing, "That's okay, it's still fun."

Logan smiled, looking at the other as he tried to figure out how his imaginary song was going.

"Yeah, it is."
