CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT
"You know, my brother's never really shown any interest in women before. Honestly, I think eomma was beginning to worry that he's gay."
Jin turns bright red, and scowls heartily at his sister. But I can't help but chuckle a little.
"I can assure you that's not the case, " he mumbles in embarrassment.
"So I see, " his sister replies, smiling despite her brother's humiliation.
Or perhaps because of it.
"Jinnie tells me you're pregnant, how far along are you?"
Her question catches me off guard.
I'd been so busy being enamored with the way they seem like a real, tight-knit family, and honestly, I thought I'd have more time before delving into this particular subject.
"Only about two months in, " I admit, "but morning sickness is already kicking my butt."
Min-ji makes a sort of sympathetic noise, absentmindedly stroking Taehyung's hair. He's fallen fast asleep upon her lap, and is snoozing away peacefully.
"Is this your first child?"
I squirm in my seat uncomfortably, beginning to feel as if this is an interrogation of some sort.
"No, " I reply, anxious, but smiling as Jin grabs my hand and squeezes it tightly. "I have a little girl from a previous marriage, named Yuri."
Min-ji smiles, erasing my unease with that one gesture.
"I bet she's absolutely enamored with Jinnie, " she coos delightfully. "He's really great with kids."
"Oh he is, and she is, " I reply enthusiastically. "I've never seen anything like it!"
I look to the side to find Seokjin blushing, but smiling nonetheless.
"She's not the only one who's enamored, " he chuckles. "Yuri is such a sweet, special girl."
I beam up at him brightly, more pleased than words can describe.

"Your sister is very sweet, " I tell Jin happily. "I really like her."
"I knew you would, " he replies with a smile.
One hand remains at the wheel, eyes facing forward and on the road as his other hand reaches out for mine.
I take it with a smile.
"And your nephew is so adorable!" I croon excitedly. "It's enough to make me hope for a little boy!"
He squeezes my hand.
"I'm happy as long as it's healthy, " he confesses.
This time, I squeeze his hand.
"How much do you wanna bet that Jo hasn't even put Yuri to bed at all?" I ask, wearing a conspiratorial grin.
"I wouldn't doubt it, " he replies. "Why?"
My grin grows wide.
"She's going to be exhausted by the time we get her home, we'd have a little bit of alone time..."
He sucks in a breath, as if he'd been burned.
"How could I ever say no to alone time?" He teases, quickly recovering from the implications.
I smile, happier in this moment than I have been in such a long, long time.
The wheels create a soothing hum as we fall into silence. And as we turn down Jo's street, and I realize that we are only a few feet away, my heart quickens.
I've missed my little Yuri bug.
We've barely even had time to Park before Jo, Joon, and Yuri are all spilling out the door, each laughing and eager to get to me first.
"Mommy!" Yuri yells, arms outstretched and reaching for me as Jo attempts to playfully hold her back.
"Nuh uh, " she cackle's, "your mommy's gonna hug me first!"
"No way!" Cries little Joon.
I watch, love and adoration blossoming in my chest as Joon tries his hardest to pry his mother from Yuri.
"Let her go mommy!"
"Never!" Jo exclaims theatrically, only squeezing my now giggling Yuri even tighter.
Seokjin too, is smiling, the kind of smile that reaches all the way to his eyes.
Stepping around the car so that I can access the trunk, I pull out two small gift bags. On the way here, we'd stopped by Jo's favorite boutique, enticed by the cute little onesies displayed in the window.
"It's such a shame your mom's too busy holding Yuri, " I say to Namjoon, conspiratorial glint in my eyes. "I guess that means she doesn't want her present."
Well that got her attention.
She immediately releases Yuri, who then rushes to Seokjin excitedly. All smiles, Jo ushers us inside so that she can open her gift.
Inwardly, I'm kind of freaking out. I'd specifically picked out two matching, unisex onesies for the purpose of revealing my pregnancy. A part of me really wanted to keep it to myself for a little longer, but, Jin and I both agree that waiting too long could prove more harmful than getting it out and into the open.
Jo looks so excited that I feel as if I might vomit. I already know that her reaction is going to be over the top. What I worry most about is Yuri's reaction, though she's wanted a sibling for a while it's quite a lot to spring I'm on her all of a sudden.
The two dainty, yellow bags feel heavier to me than the biggest boulder, but Jin's hand on my back lends me strength.
As we all sit upon Jo's couch, I take a deep breath, and then place both bags on the coffee table. Jin pulls Yuri into his lap, bringing a smile to my face. If this relationship continues to work out as it has been, he'll be an excellent father for Yuri. And though initially I might have balked at the idea, there's a certain peace to it now.
Apprehension eats away at me as Jo begins to tear into the bags, and I wait for her to pull out not only the onesie, but that little filmy piece of paper that shows there is another human being in my belly.
Her response doesn't disappoint.
"Oh my God! You're pregnant?"
I nod, and Jo veritably explodes with joy.
She rushes at me, and embraces me while crying like some sort of mad woman.
"I can't believe it!" She exclaims, turning to Yuri with a huge smile. "Yuri bug, you're gonna be a big sister!"
At first, Yuri shows no signs of comprehending Jo's excited statement. But then, her eyes blow wide, and a gigantic grin spreads across her tiny little face.
"Mommy's gonna have a baby too? Just like Aunt Jo?"
"Are you excited?" I ask, turning my full attention onto Yuri.
She squeals happily in reply, and throws her arms around me. I breathe deep, comforted by the feel of her little arms around my neck. I don't know how I would have handled it if she'd been upset.
"I want a little sister, " she announces, fixing Jin with a sly grin. "Since I already have a little brother."
"She means Jun, " I inform Seokjin, who looks at me as if puzzled.
"It'll be a while before your mom knows which gender the baby is, " Jo inserts, "but I'm sure that even if you get another little brother, you'll love it just as much."
Yuri pouts for a moment, but ultimately agrees.
"The real question, " Jo continues, giving Seokjin a rather pointed look, "is when the heck you're going to marry our Anna."
Jin looks sheepish, and uncomfortable, and I sigh in exasperation.
"That's enough Jo, " I warn, "I know you mean well, but this really isn't the time."
She doesn't even bother to look sorry.
"I just don't want you to end up raising this kid alone, like Yuri." She explains, completely ignoring the way Jin bristles beside me. "I know things seem good now, but what will you do if he runs out on you after the baby is born?"
If looks could kill, Jo would be a puddle on the floor.
"I respect that as her best friend, you have her best intentions at heart, " he asserts angrily. "But you don't even know me well enough to speculate such a thing. I'm not going anywhere, ever. And I don't appreciate you insinuating otherwise, marriage or no. This is my kid too you know."
"Well if you're not going anywhere, why not marry her?"
But the look on his face tells me that it isn't so simple.
