CHAPTER SEVEN
"Thank you for coming all the way out here to help me," I grit my teeth through the pain as the doctor sets my foot.
It's broken, apparantly. Though I had managed to walk on it with extreme difficulty, the moment I'd gotten car enough away from the car I'd collapsed, tumbling to shield Yuri from my weight. I'd lay there, in extreme agony as I'd attempted to soothe my terrified angel. The medics and their ambulance had arrived shortly, along with the police and the fire department. While the ambulance rushed Yuri and I to the hospital, the fire station had remained, along with a couple police officers, to look after my car.
Apparantly, just after the crash, I'd received another call. And once the firefighters had ensured that my car was not going to turn into flames, they'd grabbed my phone and handed it over to the police, who'd then called the last number on the history list in regards to the accident.
Seokjin stands before me, worry etched clearly upon his face though he tries to smile and hide it.
"There isn't any reason for you to be sorry," he admonishes softly. " Honestly, I'd really hoped to see you again, I just wish it didn't involve such injuries. "
He gestures to my foot, and I laugh uncomfortably.
"Did you really?" I hiss.
Seokjin steps back a little, clearly confused by my tone of voice.
The doctor is tightening whatever it is he'd used to brace my foot you see, and it hurts so badly, but I don't want to wake Yuri, who sleeps soundly in the cot beside me. She wouldn't leave my side, no matter what anyone said.
I'd been helpless to do anything about it, confined to the cot the way I was. Luckily, Yuri'd managed to avoid any damage at all, and I thank all that is holy for small miracles.
"Is she the little one you were telling me about?" Seokjin asks, changing the topic entirely.
I can feel myself becoming defensive, I don't want him to meet Yuri.
It isn't that I dislike him, or even that I distrust him, it's simply a matter of principle. I don't want Yuri to get attached to anyone, or get any wrong ideas just to end up with another crash and burn like Jason.
Mr. Kim," I address him, only to be cut off as he tells me, "Please. Call me Jin."
"Alright!" The doctor announces, stepping away from my foot. "You can go home. Just remember to stay off your foot as much as possible, keep it elevated, and use the provided clutches when you absolutely must walk."
I eye the crutches resting beside the chair to my right. There's no way I'm gonna be able to carry Yuri while using them, and I feel semi-defeated.
As the doctor leaves, I shimmy from my cot, keeping a careful eye on Yuri's slumbering form. I manage to stand without waking her, partially leaning upon the cot's side rails to keep myself steady since I can only put pressure on one foot. Jin watches as I hop over to the table where the police have left my belongings.
"Hey," He says gently, "do you need some help?"
Shaking my head as I approach the table, I fumble around for my phone.
"It's dead," I realize, and I want to cry. "How am I supposed to call Jo?"
"I can give you a ride if you need one," he offers kindly. "I've even got a booster seat for your little one in the back I believe. I have a nephew who's around the same age."
"That," I begin, immediately about to turn him down. But then, I stop, and realize that I don't really have a choice. "I would appreciate it greatly. Is there any chance I could use your cell phone for a moment first, I need to call my friend and let her know what's going on."
"Sure," he replies, digging around in his pocket for a second in order to locate his cellphone.
He hands it to me, and I quickly dial Jo's number. Doing the best that I can to keep my weight off of my injured foot, I've been favoring the left foot. But now, my left leg has tightened painfully, and I wince as the phone rings.
And as soon as the call is fully connected, I preemptively announce, "Jo, I'm at the hospital. Can you come and get Yuri and I?"
"Oh my god, Anna?" She freaks, "what happened? Where have you been? Do you know how many times I've tried to call you?"
"Not so loud," I tell her, "Yuri and I are at the hospital right now, I got us into a car accident. He called."
"Okay, let me get my keys and Jun and I will come get you guys. You're still staying over for the weekend, right?"
"Jo, I really don't want to be a burden like that. How will I get home?" I protest.
"Nonsense," Jo declares, leaving little room for argument, "I'll take you guys home Sunday night."
"Um, if I may?" Jin interjects, seemingly having listened in on our conversation. "I can take you to your friends house, surely that will save her a little gas at least."
"Who's that?" Jo asks, bewildered by the sudden presence of a male voice. "Who's there with you?"
I hand the phone to Seokjin, knowing full well that Jo isn't going to stop until I've told her every detail. Though she might settle for speaking to him, if I'm lucky.
"My name is Kim Seokjin, pleasure to meet you." As he introduces himself to her, I can hear Jo squealing in the background. "If it helps at all, I can give her a ride to your place."
I can hear Jo's voice, excitedly chattering away. But I can't tell what she's saying. I only have Seokjin's words to go on.
"Ah yes," he tells her, smiling fondly. "I would be that extremely handsome man from the coffee shop!"
I am immediately flooded with embarrassment, and only more so as Jin turns to me and says, "I like your friend, she's got good taste!"
"She doesn't even know what you look like!" I retort, hobbling into his direction to grab his phone.
"But you do," he insisted, and I blush from head to toe.
"He knows!" I scream internally.
He evades me, and I manage to keep the weight off of my foot as I cling to his clothes attempting to grab the phone that he holds just out of my reach, almost as if it were bait.
"I would love to meet you!" He enthuses, speaking to Jo and nearly ignoring my struggles. "I'll see you when I drop her off then!"
