CHAPTER NINE
"I'm so glad you're alright!" Jo cries loudly, having rushed to Seokjin's car the moment he's pulled into her drive.
Though she babies me endlessly from the passenger's side window, she makes no move to open the door and free me from Seokjin's car. Although, if I'm to be honest, I'm not entirely ready to say goodbye.
Despite my initial reservations, it's actually been an incredibly enjoyable ride. Jin's taste in music is impeccable, and I was delighted to find out that he's probably the only other person on this planet, aside from myself, who actually finds dad jokes funny.
It's so surprising too, that his sense of humor is the same as mine.
Even more surprising was the realization that, for someone who can be so incredibly cocky, Jin is actually also incredibly humble. A bit of a oxymoronic statement, but true nonetheless.
Yuri is still passed out in the back seat as Jin exits the driver's seat. Jo squeals needlessly as he walks around to my door, eyes nearly falling from their sockets as she takes in his appearance.
She moves out of the way as Jin approaches, and whistles lowly as he opens the door for me.
"What a gentleman!" She exclaims happily.
"I try," he replies, hand on handle and charming smile on full display yet again.
I laugh as he offers his hand to me, and then I take it. Jo regards us with eager eyes for only a few more moments before rushing to get Yuri from the car. As she unbuckles the seatbelt, I lean against the car, attempting to hop to the trunk where my crutches are currently residing.
"Allow me, " He declares, easily moving around me and to the trunk before I can protest.
He clicks the little button on his key fob, and the trunk springs open slowly. He grabs the crutches, and then gingerly places them beside me. I struggle for a moment to get them properly propped beneath my armpits, but manage nonetheless.
Yuri snuggles closely into Jo's chest as she carries her into the house, still sleeping soundly. I pause, realizing that I can't possibly carry our bags like this, and unsure as to whether or not Jo is going to come back for them.
But, it seems that I worried needlessly, because Jin already has the bags in hand.
"You don't have to do that, " I murmur, embarrassed by the fact that I need so much help.
"It's nothing, " he tells me chivalrously, "don't even worry about it."
By the time we make it half-way to the door, I am panting. Walking with crutches is more difficult than I imagined, and I'm already all worn out.
Suddenly, and without warning, my feet are no longer touching the ground. I yelp in surprise, Seokjin grinning at me as he carries me like a princess the final distance to the door.
I blush, staring helplessly at him at his broad shoulders barely even strain beneath my weight.
"Hi, " I whisper, mesmerized by the nearness of his face.
If I wanted to, and truly I do, I could easily reach up and touch his handsome face. But it is insecurity that stays my hand.
"Hi, " he replies, chuckling lightly at the dazed expression on my face.
Something passes between us. Something unspoken that needs no words to be understood. An acceptance, of sorts. Of my attraction to him, and his to me. And somehow, the dynamic between us shifts, and I realize that this is an opportunity I cannot let pass me by.
Leaning up, hands outstretched and reaching for his face, I place a shy kiss upon his lips.
"Thank you, " I say, "not just for this, but for everything."
He smiles, leaning down to place a not so shy kiss upon my lips in retaliation.
"Think I can get that second date now?"
I nod mutely, too embarrassed to give voice to my enthusiastic yes. Though that doesn't stop my brain from veritable screaming inside the confines of my skull.
"I would love to suggest next weekend, but I don't think I can wait that long to see you again, " he states, opening the door with one hand, even as he supports my weight with the other. "Do you think your friend Jo could share you for a few hours tomorrow?"
"Share?" Jo shrieks in the background, clearly having somehow listened in on our conversation. "Take her! She's yours!"
I blush once more, making a mental note to get onto Jo later.
"Mine, huh?" Seokjin replies, smugly smiling as he walks through the door. "I like the sound of that."
Jo laughs maniacally from somewhere further within the house as I am placed delicately upon her couch.
"So, I'll come pick you up tomorrow after eight, does that sound good?" Seokjin stands before me, looming above like a well-dressed God.
I may, or may not, be salivating just a little.
"Yeah, " I reply, trying, and failing, to sound nonchalant. "Sounds great."
He smiles, excitement clear upon his face. Suddenly, I feel slightly silly for trying so hard to hide my own.
"And bring an appetite, " he tells me, winking roguishly and pulling a small chuckle from me.
"You sure? I don't you know if you've noticed, but I'm not exactly some skinny minnie."
I gesture to my abdomen, and all of the extra weight therein. At 5'8 I weigh a whopping 200 pounds, one of my biggest insecurities.
"She's not lying!" Jo screams from what I have now determined to be the bathroom. "Don't tell her that or you'll regret it if you're paying for the meal! That woman can eat!"
This time, the blush that spreads across my cheeks is one of anger, and I wonder whether she's purposefully trying to ruin this for me, or if she's truly that clueless.
Honestly, it's probably the latter.
"I'm completely sure, " he says, only smiling even more brightly after Jo's outburst.
Leaning over to whisper scandalously in my ear, he tells me, "I like a woman who can eat, so don't hold back on my account."
