Charon was sitting with Nova in the tower library; the two were reading a book about void light manipulation. Charon was gifted with arc light at his resurrection. However, Ikora needed to take it away from him, after the death of his girlfriend, he couldn't control himself. Nova had received Kronah's gift of void light, one of the only things that she treasured and wanted to use more than anything. She knew that she had it, she could feel it, she just didn't know how it worked
"So, manipulating void light is dangerous?" Nova asked running her fingers across the braille pages.
"Well, not exactly, your mother did a fantastic job at controlling it. I'm sorry that I can't exactly teach you hand's on, but I'm more of an arc teacher."
"It's okay dad; I'll just have to find someone who can."
"I hope that you can find someone who's just as good at void manipulation as your mother."
"So do I," Nova replied sadly. "I miss her dad."
Charon held her close to him. "So do I Nova, so do I." He replied.
The two held each other for a brief moment then a familiar face showed up. It was James. James sat down in the chair across from the two of them. "So this is your daughter Charon?"
Charon let her go for a bit and glanced over to his warlock friend. "Yeah, James this is Nova."
"Nova, this is James."
"Wonderful to meet you." She said holding out her hand. James took her hand and shook it. James could feel something surging through her veins, an all too familiar cold touch. Not one of the hive, but one of the void. It surged through her as he held her hand illuminating her for a moment with an aura of void light in James's eyes.
"James?" Charon asked.
"Oh, sorry, it's just that I felt something."
"What did you feel?"
"An immense connection to void light. It's strong."
"Yeah, her mother was a nightstalker, one of the best in her class too. She want's to become a voidwalker. You wouldn't happen to know anybody who's mastered void light would you?" Charon asked him intently.
"No, but I can teach her as much as I can," James replied to him.
"Wait, really?" Nova asked him.
"Yeah, I can do that, I always wanted a person to teach anyways."
"Thank you; you're the best!" She exclaimed excitedly. "But, may I ask why you're here?"
"Sure, I came here because your father told me that there was a way that I could get my memories back."
"Oh yeah, my dad talks about how he was once an exo a lot."
"Oh, I don't say it that much." Charon joked. "Anyway yeah, you ready to go?"
"Yeah, let's go," James said to him. "She'll be okay by herself right?"
"She lived on her own for three months James; I'm sure she'll be fine."
"Right, so let's get moving then."
"Goodbye Nova, I'll see you when I get back," Charon said to his daughter with a smile.
"Love you, dad." She replied.
"I love you too."
The two warlocks walked out of the library and towards the tower elevator stepping inside. James then pressed the button, and the two descended. It was quiet for a few brief moments until he glanced over to the exo looking out the window ahead of them. He knew that face, it was the face of a man who was thinking. Charon wanted to know a couple of things about him, his future desires specifically.
"So, what do you plan to do with Cameron?" Charon asked him.
"What do you mean?"
"You know, start a family, marry her, have a kid?"
"Well, I'm an exo, I can't have children Charon. Much to my dismay." He replied sadly.
"Well, how were you built?"
James glanced up from the floor to look at him. "I was created by my mother and father in a secret lab. I've been playing through the same memory of my conception over and over and over again. Hoping that something eventually clicks as to where it was."
"Well, you don't know then."
"I don't know what?"
"You weren't made in a factory like most exo models, you may have been given the ability to produce genetic material. Even though exos were made in humanity's image, some didn't possess the ability to have a family on their own. I've looked into the reason why they gave certain models the ability to do so, but all I could find was that some of them wanted that. They told them that if they so happened to fall in love with a human, they would want to have a family."
"Do you think that they actually possessed that technology, to give a machine the ability to reproduce with a human?"
"I can hope James."
"Hope for what?"
"Hope for you, that you will have a chance to have a family of your own. You'd be a great father."
"You mean that?"
"Of course I do."
The two arrived down on the ground and hopped on their sparrows and began driving outside of the city's walls. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining brightly through the few clouds that were overhead. James breathed in through his nose, it smelled pleasant outside as well. Charon drove along side him.
"Say, when we're done with this, you want to go grab a drink?" James asked Charon hopefully.
"Sure thing buddy," Charon replied with a smile.
The sparrows sped along the green fields beneath the city, eventually getting through the forest to a valley in between the mountains.
"May I ask you how you can remember your past lives if you're human?" James asked as they continued speeding along.
"Truth is, I don't know. I shouldn't be able to remember anything but somehow I could."
"Makes enough sense, it's just another mystery to solve."
"How about you and Cameron, how long have you two known each other?"
"In this life, we've known each other for three months."
"Wait, this life?"
"Well, we knew each other earlier on, in the golden age in fact. We were a part of the MDU and fought alongside each other. I don't know much else beyond that. We learned that when we found a cell phone on one of their operatives in space, in one of the old evacuation ships. Her name was Lena. Some artifacts of hers are in the heroes museum."
"The heroes museum?"
"Oh, sorry, it's a project of mine. I've managed to get the city behind it, and we constructed a museum to honor the heroes of old. Some artifacts from the MDU's best are in there, and some of them are copies."
"Which ones?"
"Well, one of the pulse pistols that belonged to Lena, the assault rifle, and jacket that Jack owned to name a few."
"Where are the real ones?"
"They're in my and Cameron's possession. These people were our friends; we wanted to keep a few things that belonged to them."
"Okay, but what else do you know about the MDU James?"
"Well, the team made my and Cameron's additions public. I know that from a spare news clipping that I had found in one of their installations across the world. I'd been searching for a copy of my memory for the past three months, and I couldn't find anything."
"Well, I'm glad I could help you out."
"I'm happy you were willing to, but you really didn't have to do this."
"Yes I did, you are one of the best friends that I've had. You were willing to listen to me sob my eyes out when nobody else would; I owed you."
"You didn't OWE me anything. I was just doing that because I wanted to be nice."
"Do you ever expect or want anything in return for anything you do?"
"Not really."
"I don't know who made you, but I'm glad they made you the way they did."
"I am too Charon. I am too."

Nova kept looking over the books that she had been given by her father, the more she read, the more excited about being James's student she became. She learned about the power that Saint-14 unleashed to win the battle of Twilight Gap, it was unfortunate that he had sacrificed himself to do so, but what he did save a lot of lives. She read a bit further and learned about the memorial that was at the center of the city. It took many helping hands and volunteers to make, but it was all worth it. Many people come there and place flowers at the memorial, in honor of all who had fallen in service of the city. Be they guardian or civilian.
"What kind of skills can you teach me, James?" She thought to herself continuing to feel along the Braille texts. She could not believe the stories that her father had told her, about the Iron Lords, and their quests for the reclamation of the golden age. She wondered if her father was here, then what happened to the exo who he had inhabited for a long time?
"Wouldn't it be weird if the two versions of my father met each other Ghost?" She asked petting the gray dog that was next to her. She was the only person who was allowed to have a pet in the libraries, because of her disability. The dog didn't do anything but softly bark. Nova giggled a little bit.
"Who am I kidding, they probably wouldn't recognize each other. Or maybe my dad would flip, freaking out about the fact that he was literally talking to himself. It's also possible that the exo has no idea as to who he is." She said slightly laughing to herself. She stood up from her position on the couch and took her books with her back to the area where she and her father lived. It was an apartment much like the one that James and Cameron lived in, but it was far more special than just a living space for a guardian. This was where she grew up. A place where her mother would brush her hair in the morning when she couldn't, and where she would help her when everything got too loud.
Her mother was the sweetest person she had ever met. The only person who had even come close was her girlfriend, Kathrine. She would remember when her mother would hold her close when she was sad, hearing the sound of her heartbeat made her feel better. When she finally came out crying when she told them she had fallen in love with a girl. She gave her a hug and told her. "Baby, you could be a pile of ashes, and we'd still love you. We're a family, and nothing will ever change that."
That was something that stuck in her head for a long time, a sentence she had never forgotten. She would try to draw a picture of her mom based on her voice, every year that passed it seemed to get better, closer to the real thing. Until one day, when Nova turned fifteen, it was exact. She gave it to her mother as a birthday gift, and her mom cried because of how beautiful it was. She spent her entire life with her mother and father, until the day she couldn't anymore.
Nova began to cry as she remembered all of the times that she had spent with her mom and dad. How poorly she had treated her father for those three months made her feel even worse. Her father needed someone to be there for him, someone who cared about him as much as Kronah did. And she couldn't be there, she was so angry with him when he needed her love the most. She fell on the floor as her tears began to fall down her face and drip onto the carpet. Ghost then walked over and rested beside her head.
"I'm so sorry dad." She sobbed to herself.
