The Blind Will See
James and Charon walked into Vintagi's both of them laughing pretty hard.
"And so what happened was he was then walking around saying "YOU DARE DEFY ME, PEASANT! I AM THE PRINCE OF ALL EXOS!" James said laughing.
"That sounds like our Cayde alright," Charon replied.
James and Charon both took a seat at the bar and waited for Vintagi to come out to take their orders. "Good evening comrades!" He said in his typical happy manner. "What can I get for you two tonight?"
"I'd like an Old Russian," James replied.
"Ah, the drink of the motherland. I like your tastes." Vintagi said with a smile. "And who are you? I don't forget faces, but I don't think I've seen you here before."
"Name's Charon. Happy to meet you." He said holding out his hand to meet the bartender.
"Wonderful to meet you as well. Stalinslav Vintagi. But you can just call me Vintagi." He said shaking his hand. "What may I get for you?"
"I don't know, what's your favorite?"
"That would be the Legionnaire, a mix of tequila, cinnamon, and apple," Vintagi replied.
"Sounds great, I'll take one," Charon replied.
"Great, I'll be right back with those gentlemen," Vintagi said as he left to the back of the bar.
"So what are you gonna teach Nova, James?"
"Well, there's quite a couple of things, but the first thing that we'd need to do is get her a ghost. You know, 'cause I don't want her accidentally blowing herself up without a way to bring her back."
"Yeah, good thinking," Charon replied as Vintagi gave them some drinks. "Thank you Vintagi," Charon replied taking his glass.
James and Charon then hit each other's glasses with a clink. Charon took a sip of his drink. "Wow, this is incredible." He said with his eyes widened.
"Thank you, Charon," Vintagi replied with a smile going to the back to start cleaning up.
"So, what do you want to teach her first?"
James took a quick sip and placed his glass down on the counter. "Well, there is something I had in mind; it's a passive skill, but I still think that it'll change her life."
"Wow, it's that important?"
"Well, to her it will be, I'm going to teach her how to see."
Charon looked at him with his eyes bugged out of his head. "Am I drunk already because I thought you just said that you were going to teach my daughter how to see."
"You're not drunk, and I DID say that."
"You're kidding me, how are you going to do that?"
"Well Charon, this isn't something that they teach in any book. But void energy is in everything, from the smallest of atoms to the largest of galaxies. You can push and pull at that void energy, and you will be able to perceive the world in a way that ordinary people can. I learned that while I was meditating in the training room one day. I was able to push my vision so far out that I could see the galactic web."
Charon glanced over at James with a very similar look that he had when he used the beam attack. His mouth dropped, and his eyes were wide. "How come nobody else knows about this?" He asked.
"It's quite simple really, nobody knew about it. Most guardians don't think creatively about their light outside of what they're given. I wanted to test the limits of what I could do with my powers, and I learned that I could do so much more than many initially thought."
"Wow. I never even thought about doing that. I just thought that we were stuck in the box of our classes."
"So did I Charon." He replied taking another sip of his drink.
"Oh man, I'm gonna have such a hard time not telling her you're going to teach her how to see," Charon said quickly.
"You can tell her if you want, but when she knows, she won't stop bugging me until I teach her," James remarked. "Not that I would mind, but still."
"You're the best James." He said glancing at him.
"Thank you, and thank you for letting me teach her."
"I'm glad you were willing to take up the challenge," Charon said to him.

Crota was growing more and more impatient with his soldiers. The third of his most valuable companions had been killed. Sigthara was a person who he had gotten attached to over the many centuries that they had been conquering. He would have selected her to be his mate had she not been killed. Many a thrall were slain by him upon hearing this news. So many in fact that his throne room was coated with a thick layer of black dust.
"First this Cameron, then Tolland and then all who dare oppose me." He stated to himself. Crota desired to leave his wretched throne world, so that he may continue his conquest. He recalled when his father would tell him of the lower soldiers incompetence. He didn't believe him until he wasn't there to make the tactical decisions that his forces needed. His commanders did all that they could, but competent leadership does not help incompetent underlings. It leads to frustration and an eventual enemy victory.
Crota then heard the door to his throne room open. "IF YOU HAVE COME TELLING ME THAT ANOTHER ONE OF MY COMMANDERS IS DEAD, I WILL TEAR YOUR LIMBS OFF!" Crota yelled.
"No master, it will be soon that the crystal will be broken. You will be free!" The acolyte exclaimed looking at his master with his back turned to him with his blade pointed diagonally at the ground.
"Good but I have a request to make."
"What may that be my lord?" The acolyte asked him.
"Bring to me the guardian known as Cameron. I seek to devour her light before all others."
"But sir, capturing a guardian is suicide. If she-URGH!"
"I WILL NOT TOLERATE EXCUSES! YOU WILL BRING HER TO ME OR I WILL CRUSH YOU INTO DUST!" The prince exclaimed picking up the acolyte.
"Y-yes master!" The acolyte shouted nervously as he threw him to the floor. The small creature then scampered out of the throne room as the doors closed behind him. Crota then glanced back over to the altar where Sardon's sword was placed. He had honored him; he will honor the wizard he loved. The sacrifice of a legion of thralls was not enough; not for a woman as beautiful and kind as she. Crota knelt before the altar and cut his hand with his sword and let his royal blood fall into the basin atop the altar.
"Shi ut mar Saavathun. Rotum soala Xivu Arath. Moka untu Auryx. Shini mokunu harx, tovamux retuvamunx." (To the God Sister Savathun. To the God Brother Xivu Arath. To the All-father Auryx. May you take her soul to the afterworld. May her soul find peace, in beautiful, blissful, death.) Crota said to himself praying to the gods of his people. Crota would kneel at the altar for a day if he must. He knew that she was strong and her soul was pure; she would begin her ascendance.

James came home at about eleven o'clock that evening; he came home to see Cameron, not in bed where she usually was at this time. He walked out of the apartment to see if she was still around. Then he heard some sort of arguing going around in an area close to a stairwell.
"You have some nerve coming back here Morn," Cameron stated to Eris. Eris was incredibly nervous when Cameron approached her.
"What do you mean Cameron?" She asked.
"CUT THE BS! YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN!" She exclaimed. James noticed how her hand was starting to glow blue with sparks emitting from it.
"I-I really don't." She stuttered.
"YES, YOU DO! HOW COULD YOU FORGET!?" She said getting visibly angrier. "How about I refresh your memory? Forty years ago you took a group of a thousand men and women up to the moon in an attempt to reclaim it. Of those thousand, nine hundred and ninety-four died, permanently. Of the six that were left, you could have just gone home and called it a loss. But no, in a final gamble you delved into the Hellmouth to kill Crota! Well, guess what? You failed Eris! You failed everyone!"
"You don't think I know that?!" Eris screamed. Cameron stopped for a moment and the electric shock in her hands faded.
"I was trapped in that hell hole for forty years Cameron! Forty years! I couldn't forget what I had done, no matter how bad that I wanted to I couldn't. I know that you want to think that I didn't care, but I never forgot Cameron. I never forgot their deaths. I can't wash that blood off my hands." She replied. "I'm sorry about Vel, really I am, but yelling at me isn't going to do anything!" Eris replied.
Cameron backed off for a moment and turned around. "I didn't know Eris. But don't expect me to forgive you for what you did."
"Trust me. If I can't forgive myself, I know you certainly can't." Eris replied.
Cameron then walked away and toward James on the stairs. "Hey, are you feeling okay?"
"I, I don't know James." She said with a sigh. "I guess you heard that didn't you?"
"I did, do you want to talk about it?"
"Yes, but, can we get home first?"
"Sure thing Cameron," James replied lacing his fingers through hers. Cameron looked over at him and smiled. James was always willing to listen to her, or anybody's problems for that matter. He seemed just always to want to help people. She remembered asking him about it a while ago, why is it that he helps people with problems so much? Especially when they have nothing to give in return. He would usually reply with, "Every problem has a solution Cameron some people just need some help to find theirs." She thought he was sweet in that aspect. Always willing to give but hardly ever willing to receive.
The pair arrived back at the apartment, and James sat down on the couch. "You tired?" He asked her.
"No, why?"
"Good, so who was Vel?"
Cameron sat down beside him. "She was a good friend of mine. She, Saint, and I all worked in the same fire team together. After the battle of Twilight Gap, it was just her and me; nobody could replace Saint. After that we stuck together, we were like sisters. Practically inseparable. Until the day Operation Ocean Storm took place. It was forty years ago where she volunteered to be a part of the lunar assault team to reclaim the moon from the hive. I haven't seen her since." She said with a tear going down the side of her face closest to James.
James held her close to him. "I'm so sorry Cameron." He murmured. "I wish I could have been there to help."
"It's okay James." She said. "Did you get your memories back?"
"Yeah, I did. I learned quite a few things about you that you may be interested in knowing."
"Really? Like what?"
"Well for starters, you were brilliant. A valedictorian at California Tech; A prestigious university in the United States. You wanted to be an astrophysicist." He said stroking her hair and wiping the tears from her eyes. "You were also the first woman to step foot on Mars. You were also the first Titan and the first guardian."
"Wow, I did that much?" She asked through her sniffles.
"You were also a treasured member of the MDU. They praised you for being strong, brave, tactically brilliant. You were something else all together Cameron." He cooed.
"Wow. That's incredible." She replied. "What about us?"
"What do you mean?"
"Did we, you know, like each other?"
"We did, but we didn't know how to go about it," James replied.
Cameron looked up at him and smiled. "Well, I'm glad it went somewhere now." She said giving him a kiss. "Well, I'm feeling kind of tired, how about you?"
"Yeah, I could use some sleep. I'm going to be teaching Charon's kid tomorrow."
"An apprenticeship? Sounds like it could be fun, but isn't she blind?"
"Yeah, I'm going to fix that."
"Well, I hope she likes you," Cameron replied with a smile.
"Me too Cameron."

Nova woke up early; it was about five forty-five in the morning. She rarely ever woke up this early but today was different, today was when she would start learning from James. She quickly got up and heard her dad take a sip out of a mug.
"Good morning Nova." He said looking over to her with Ghost.
"Hi Dad, what are you doing up this early?"
"Well, James was going to come by early today, I said you probably wouldn't mind." He said taking another sip of his coffee. Then the pair heard a knock at the door. "Well, that must be him now," Charon said placing his mug on the counter. Sure enough, he was right. James was standing there clad in his armor to see them.
"Morning Charon." He said walking inside.
"Good morning James, you sleep well?"
"Not really, I was too excited."
"Great! I was too." Nova replied. "So where do we start?!" Nova exclaimed eagerly.
"Well, you already have a strong connection to void light, so let's put it to good use. I'm going to teach you how to see before we get to do some other stuff."
"You can't be serious; I'm blind."
"I am, your dad couldn't believe me when I told him either. But the truth is that everything in the universe has void energy in it. From the smallest of atoms to the largest of galaxies. By pulling at that energy you will be able to perceive the world in a way that an average person can, but if you pull far out, you will see more and more of the world around you."
"That sounds amazing! Please, teach me, I'd love to finally see the world!"
"I figured you would. Okay, so what I need you to do is follow my instructions."
"Yes, master!"
"You can just call me James if you want."
"Yes, Master James."
"Okay, so what you need to do first is cross your legs, one over the other. Then start taking deep rhythmic breaths."
Nova complied, following James's instructions to the best of her ability. She found it so difficult to focus, but she had to, it was the only way she would be able to see finally. She soon found herself in a weird dimension without light. She floated about in this place for a moment until she heard her master's voice.
"Now purge your mind of all thoughts, be they good or evil and focus on my instructions."
She stopped thinking about anything but what was happening. She felt a slight chill go down her spine as she then saw a large purple orb appear in front of her.
"You feel cold?"
"Yes."
"Good, don't worry it's normal. The void will appear as a purple orb, once you see it, grab it and it will grant you it's all-seeing eyes."
Nova could see the orb, but she could not reach it. "I can't reach it, what do I do?"
"If you can't reach it, pull it towards you," James replied calmly.
Nova then pulled at the large purple orb and felt it in her hands. It was cold but comforting. "Okay, I have it, n-now what?" She stuttered.
"Open your eyes Nova and see the world from the void that surrounds it."
She opened her eyes and was amazed. She could see her father, James, Ghost, everything in her house. "Oh my God." She said partially tearing up. "It's too much." She said looking from left to right.
"You may not get used to it quickly, just keep breathing. Let the void seep in. Swim in its omnipotence, let it's presence sooth you."
"Nova, how are you feeling?" Charon asked looking at his daughter with her eyes glowing a slight purple.
"I-I-I feel overwhelmed Dad. It's all, so, beautiful." She then stood up and gave James a hug. "Thank you so much!" She said tearing up from the joy of being able to see.
"You wanna know the best part?"
"What's that?" She asked him.
"That's permanent as long as you want it to be. It doesn't put a strain on your body either."
"This is unbelievable!" She said looking around.
"If you think that's great just wait until we hit the training room today. Speaking of which, there's someone here who really wants to meet you." James said to her letting her go. Then a purple ghost appeared above James's left shoulder.
"Hello, Nova. My name is Ghost, and I am your ghost." The ghost then flew over to the teenager and shown a blue light to scan her body. The light then began to change, into weaves and fabrics, plates and armor. Soon she was then crowned with a helmet. Nova looked at herself, and her mouth dropped from the inside of her helmet. Her armor was a purple with some gold looking accents on her shoulders, knees, and breastplate.
"This is incredible!" She said with a smile. "How? How did he do this?! I thought you had to be dead to be a guardian!"
"I thought so too. Until that little guy floated in here asking for you. Also, it really helps with our training that you have the reset button on hand. I don't want you accidentally blowing yourself up." James said with a smile.
"I can't wait to get started. But I kind of just want to walk around for the day if that's alright with you, I want to see everything I can."
"That's fine Nova, enjoy your day."
"Thank you so much, James," Charon replied shaking his hand.
"Anytime pal. Same goes for you too Nova."
"Thank you, Master." She replied.
James then walked out of the door and shut it behind him. Ghost then appeared in front of him. "Master James. Has a nice ring to it don't you think?"
"I'm not worthy of the title yet ghost."
"I think you are James." He replied as the two walked to get some breakfast for James and Cameron that morning.
