Rasputin

James and Cameron finished up their shopping and were just returning home to place the items that they had bought in the fridge; then they heard a knock at the door. "Who is it?" James asked putting a bottle of orange juice in the refrigerator. He then walked over to the door; he wasn't expecting Charon for another fifteen minutes. He opened the door and looked around, "Hello?" He asked looking up and down the hallway.

"Cameron?" He asked moving back inside.

"Yeah James?"

"Did you hear a knock on the door a minute ago?"

"No, why?"

"I thought I heard something."

James then got a beep on his comms unit, as did Cameron. The two readied up and moved out to the hall of guardians. The triumvirate was in an intense discussion when the group made it inside. Sidriks and Aaron were in there already. "Ah, the conquistadors are here," Cayde remarked.

"I'm still not calling them that," Zavala replied looking at the four-man group who stood in front of him. "We have a problem; we received a distress signal from Rasputin."

"Rasputin?" James asked. He had heard the name thrown about only a couple of times in the Tower, fire teams he would run by would talk of him in whispers.

"It's a golden age AI Construct, designed to control humanities weapons of mass destruction," Ikora replied. "This is the first time that he has reached out to us in an untold number of years."

"What's happening to him?" Cameron asked determinedly.

"Omnigul has arrived," Eris said stepping out of the shadows to reveal herself to the group. Cameron looked at her, and her eyes widened. James glanced down to her hand which had clenched into a fist, and he noticed a visible spark show up in her hand.

"The hive are leading an assault on the Warmind as we speak, if we move quickly, we may be able to stop it." She stated to the group. Ikora glanced over to the other members of the vanguard, each giving the others a look of approval.

"A threat to the Warmind is a threat to the city; we need to stop the hive before they destroy Rasputin," Ikora stated.

"Destruction of the Warmind is not their intention. They desire to control him, to use the doomsday weapons at his command to destroy the city." Eris added.

"Okay, fireteam conquistador, your job is to secure the Warmind bunker, take out this Omnigul or whatever it is, and then seal the vault, making sure nothing gets in or out. Got it?" Cayde added.

"Yes, sir!" The team exclaimed running out of the hall of guardians to their ships. James then hopped into his new ship. "Good to have you back Sir," Captain stated to James as the team's ships rose out of the hangar bay.

"Good to be back Captain," James replied. It had been a long time since James had last used his ship, mostly because the work that he did typically kept him on this planet. Also, he didn't have a functioning ship until about a month ago. Since he lost his first ship before he and his team went to kill the gatelord three months ago, he found a hard time getting a new ship. That is until he went rummaging around in the reef. The ship that he had found was the same size as typical guardian ships, with the cockpit in the front and a small living space in the back.

What was so special about this ship was the weapons that it had on the outside. The original ship that he had only had rocket pods, this one had not only rocket pods, but Gatling guns, plasma cannons, and so much more unnamed features. It had been a long time since Captain had a ship to pilot, during the time James was looking for a ship he was in a ghost shell trying to cope with the lack of power at his command. James didn't name his former ship, but he decided to name this one. James called it Fury. He even painted a design on the nose around the massive Gatling gun at the front of the ship with a shark face. He thought of it as a tribute to the pilots of the second world war.

The team decided to fly suborbital this time around, hearing the roar of the engines as their ships took off into the midday sky. "So where's the bunker located?" Cameron asked touching several of the switches on her ship.

"The bunker is located underneath the Cosmodrome. However, Rasputin was kind enough to give us the location of an access point. It's in the basement of the tallest structure of the forgotten shore."

"The Forgotten Shore? Wasn't that at some point a boat dock?" Aaron asked as the team continued speeding through the atmosphere.

"Well, you might want to ask James or Cameron about that, they're the history buffs,"  Cayde replied to him.

"Anyway, wasn't the forgotten shore a boat dock?" He asked again.

"No, the docks were further out than this," Cameron replied as the group transmatted down to the surface of the forgotten shore. James always thought there was some beauty to be had from the setting sun out here. Sometimes he would take Cameron here just to watch the sunset. He enjoyed times like that, where it was just the two of them. "Come on James, stop day dreaming!" Aaron stated to his warlock friend.

"Right, sorry, we have a mission to do." He said apologetically.

Rasputin called out in pain. "стоп!(stop)" He cried as the hive continued to probe at his systems. Rasputin had existed in peaceful isolation for centuries after the collapse, silently defending humanity from afar. "остановить оставь меня в покое (Stop leave me alone)!" He cried out as they began cracking his firewalls, one after the other after the other.

"Mistress, four guardians approach." An acolyte stated to the Wizard hovering over the AI's central control matrix. Omingul glanced over to the acolyte. Her female form was more accentuated than the rest of her sisters. Her teeth were sharp, her eyes as blue as the ocean of their Regarding size she was as tall as other wizards of her breed. However, her armor was much more accentuated, her helmet having horns rather than being flat. A sign of a battle-hardened wizard in Hive cultures, for as a wizard grows her armor becomes more elaborate.

Omnigul screamed in frustration, so loudly that the acolyte believed that his ears might bleed if she continued. "GO! DEAL WITH THEM YOU IMBECILE!" She yelled.

"Yes, mistress." He replied running out of the chamber.

"Now." She said placing her pointed fingers on the control panel. "Where were we?" She asked the machine calmly.

"ОТПУСТИ МЕНЯ! ВЫ ЗНАЕТЕ НЕ ВЛАСТЬ Обладаю! (Let me go! You know not the power I possess.)"

"Oh, but I do machine. You possess the power to annihilate humanity." She said floating over to the massive core at the center placing her hands on it. "Which is precisely what I want." She whispered to the Warmind.

"Я не буду помогать вам, до тех пор, пока существует унция энергии дуги осталось во мне. (I will not help you, as long as there is an ounce of arc energy left in me.)" Rasputin replied. He would not listen to this creatures ultimatum.

"I'm afraid that you don't have a say in the matter." She said sinking her claw-like hands into his central cortex. "Now give me the knowledge you possess!"

"Через мой труп.(Over my dead body)" Rasputin replied sending an electrical shock through Omnigul. Omnigul cried out in pain from the arc energy pouring into her body from the AI. Rasputin, even though he didn't trust humanity, sought to protect it. He may not be willing to sacrifice himself for them, but he was willing to fight for them.

"Very well." She replied. The two beings began a game of hackers chess of sorts. Each move that the other made either brought them or their opponent closer to victory. "Soon master Crota, soon." She stated to herself as she continued trying to breach Rasputin's defenses.

"те хранители, лучше поторопиться. Я не могу держать это намного дольше.(Those guardians better hurry. I can't keep this up much longer.) He thought to himself.

The group of four guardians began climbing the hill of leading up to the building which housed the entrance to the bunker. "How on Earth is this thing even standing?" James asked himself. He noticed the large steel beams that were supporting the structure to the rear of the building. "This thing looks like it's being held together with masking tape." He said as the group walked up to the front door.

"I agree, most of the structures on my own planet weren't in this bad of shape when the whirlwind hit," Sidriks remarked to the group. The four of them walked down the stairs of the structure to find the doorway to the bunker open.

"That can't be good," Aaron stated to the group looking at the large diamond shaped door in the wall.

"Well, let's get going!" Cameron exclaimed excitedly. It had been a long time since she had a mission of this level of importance. The last mission she had with this level was three months ago. That entire adventure had a whole bunch of emotions flow through her head. Eventually, she found herself in love with an Exo and of all people a warlock. Something that she never thought would happen to her, especially after Saint died. James was something different, though, it wasn't just his abilities and aptitude for combat that differed him from other warlocks. It was his entire attitude that made him different. Most guardians tried to place themselves above other guardians, flaunting the best looking gear, and the amount of it they had as if that were enough to impress anyone. She found a quality like that admirable; it also helped that she thought he was kind of handsome.

James, however, kept his arsenal under his own lock and key. He never said to anybody, my scout rifle is better than yours or that his armor looked better. He just never put himself above anybody. She found that incredibly difficult to believe that he never put himself above anyone else. "Perhaps his mom and dad never programmed him to be selfish." She thought to herself reloading The Patriot. Sometimes she would find him up late at night playing through his own memory, hoping to get an idea as to where his parent's lab was located. "Hey, James? What happened to that guy who told you he would be able to help you get your memory back?" She asked him.

"I told him that we got sidetracked, and we'll be with him in about an hour or so." He replied.

"What do you think is on those memories in that head of yours?" She asked him as the group walked into a larger room in the bunker.

"I could only guess." He replied. His sentence was then interrupted by the entrance of thralls and other hive soldiers.

"We need to get up those stairs!" Ghost told the group.

The hive legion ran up to the fire team as they began to advance further into the bunker, swiftly approaching the set of stairs that they needed to ascend. James looked down the sight of his rifle firing into the advancing horde. Watching as his bullets would impact the skulls of the thralls that lay ahead of him, then splitting into multiple others impacting the targets around them. "Come on!" James yelled activating his radiance. "We don't have time for this!" He said extending a solar arm sword. James then in one swipe slew most of the thrall in his way. A knight then rushed him with a blade of his own swinging from above. James blocked it holding the blade in place, then Sidriks came in from behind stabbing him in the back helping James off the ground.

"Come on James; we have a war to win." He said running off into battle.
