Chapter Twenty- Four: Sentimental Rain

A/n: So, how will Kousei react to the truth? Read to find out! Some things here are only fictional. Thank you!

Emperor Richard III got a surprising guest inside his throne room. His mother, Empress Dowager Victoria stood in front of him. He stood right up in his surprise after the golden doors of his throne room opened. It had been a long time that they haven't met ever since Prince Kousei was sent in Japan to accompany his mother despite her protests to let him join his dying mother. She's a British- Atlantian Princess from United Kingdom. Her mother is an Atlantian Noble while her father's the second child of the British King at the time of the First World War. Because of her, Atlantian Monarchs and British Monarchs became connected with each other.

Her blue eyes smiled directly at her son and spoke up. Her beauty hadn't faded away and she has very few wrinkles. She's still fair and sexy but she's witty and cunning, too. She's ambitious and she does love Kousei so much. When it comes to her grandchildren, she's worried and warm. "When will you ever tell your youngest child that he had a fake older brother?" she asked him.

"Leonardo's not fake. I adopted him!" screamed Richard III. "He's an adopted child! You know the rule, mom! In our society, I can adopt a male child!"

"You chose a boy unrelated to you years ago. I couldn't believe it. You should have chosen Kousei instead of Leonardo in the very beginning. There had never been a history in the Phoenix Dynasty that your father's bloodline was broken and replaced by a child that was adopted," she scolded her own son. "You should have told Leonardo the truth before he knew the truth on his own! The truth killed him. He knew he does not deserve his role to be the next emperor but instead, it was really Kousei's position! Do you want it to happen to your real heir?"

"Six years ago, Prince Kousei left this castle grounds to be with his mother. He was far too young. He needed to have his mother more than me," Richard III said as he stand up. "Ever since he was born, I know that you look up to him more than me. I will raise my son the way I wanted it."

"If you don't tell the truth, he will still know and it can kill him," spoke Empress Dowager Victoria. "You're forgetting yourself, Richie."

Richie clenched his fists and stared at her fierce gray eyes. "I know. I'm a coward!"

"Tell the truth. Do it for love, Richie!" cried Empress Dowager Victoria.

He looked away and stood closer to his mother. "My son will be hurt."

"Knowing that you hid it from him will hurt him more," spoke Empress Dowager Victoria. "If you don't want to be the first Emperor to give the role to a nephew, do something!"

"Yes, Mother," spoke Richie to his mom. "That does mean telling all of my children about who Leonardo really is."

...

Emperor Richard III stared nervously at his own children at the Royal Dining Room. They were the only ones inside. Kousei, Jasmine and Brianna kept on looking at each other with confused facial expressions why their father sent them to get in the Royal Dining Hall that afternoon. All of them had to be excused from their classes to go back home immediately.

The table had nothing in it except for glasses of water served to them. At the same time, all of them stood up and lowered themselves after they saw their grandmother in front of them. They all sat down after Empress Dowager Victoria smiled at them.

"So, how are all of you?" she asked them.

Empress Adrianna joined them, too, minutes later. She's nervous for the reaction that Kousei might have when he does learn the truth already. She lowered herself to the Empress Dowager and sat at the left side of her husband while Kousei does sit at his father's right side. "We're fine, grandmother," spoke Princess Jasmine. "I will be marrying Lord Hermes Smithson soon."

"Kousei approved of it, correct?" she asked her.

"I did, grandma," Kousei said to her.

"Why are we here? Why are all we here in the Royal Dining Room if we aren't going to eat as family?" asked Princess Brianna.

Richie held Kousei's hand and her hand, too. "With all of the people around here, I am sure it will be the two of you who would be hurt terribly by my revelation about who your brother is. He had a suicide note and it was at that time, I felt so much guilt. I shouldn't have given him such responsibility that isn't even his. It killed him."

Kousei felt more bewildered. "Is this about our brother's suicide, father?"

"Yes, Kousei. That's why I am nervous for the two of you," he replied back to him. "You're close to him."

"Father, what's wrong? Why did our brother take his own life?" asked Princess Brianna.

"Your brother... No matter what, he's still my son and your brother. He's adopted," he informed them. "Leonardo learned that he was an adopted child and his biological father does not recognize him as his son."

Kousei stood in so much surprise and asked his father in his annoyance, "You kept the truth to him for so long, do you? When he discovered it, he wasn't able to think correctly and killed himself?"

"Forgive me, Kousei. Even so, it wasn't that I kept the truth to him that killed him. He kept the truth from you while you were in Japan!" Emperor Richard III informed him. At that time, Victoria knew that she had to make Jasmine and Brianna leave the room. They tried to hesitate but their mother begged them to leave. She stared back at them and made them leave immediately before she joined them to allow Crown Prince Kousei and Emperor Richard III to talk with each other. His sisters could hear their youngest brother wailing in so much pain after they were outside the Royal Dining Hall.

...

Emperor Richard took his own son around his arms and let him cry on his shoulders. "Your grandmother begged me to tell you. She was worried for you."

"Thank you for telling me the truth, dad," cried Kousei. "Now I know why my brother took his own life"

Empress Adrianna hugged him, too. "Remember, even I did not give me birth to you, for me, you're still my lovely son."

"Who's brother's biological father, dad? Why can't he be just happy that there's still a family that love him? Also, he's adopted by an Emperor. Yes, he's still my older brother no matter what even if we aren't blood related. Why did he take his own life only because he's not really one of us? You made him one of us!" Kousei cried. "Why didn't he just ask you for some advice? I'll be happy for him that he's Crown Prince."

Empress Adrianna and Emperor Richard III couldn't say anything. They just let him cry his tears at that time. They couldn't tell him anything that may aggravate him and turn him to get angry with a smaller kingdom that does not recognize illegitimate children. At the same time, they went back at the graveyard of all members of the Phoenix Dynasty behind the Atlantian Catholic Church. They slowly walked that night with Brianna and Jasmine to visit Prince Leonardo.

"Nii-san...," cried Kousei. He had always called him that way when they were very young to acknowledge him as his older brother. Arima Saki had taught him that word to recognize that Leonardo's his older brother. "You don't know how I miss you."

They were all wearing black at that time. Once again, his family hugged him tight. It was at that time that Kousei realized the real truth about why his brother took his own life after he thought about it. His brother realized that he doesn't deserve his place in the Atlantian Society after he learned about Lady Veronica's cheating. He willingly gave his role to him in his death. He knew that his parents kept on advising him to not think about it that much or he may become just like his brother. For his brother, now that he's about to be a lawmaker in a few days, he chose to be strong.

"I can't let emotions defeat me, brother," Kousei spoke up. "I don't want to be like you. You should have been strong and accept who you are than give me pain. You gave the role to me after you killed yourself. You're cruel. I lived for three years not knowing that you aren't blood related to anyone of us! We treated you as our brother!"

After he spoke those words, he wasn't able to stop crying. It was only a few moments later when he dried his tears. All of them went back at the Royal Palace seeing a new light together. Kousei had slowly accepted the death of two of the people that he cared most. His mother and brother both died but even so, he had his father, his grandmother, his sisters and a new mother who treat him as her own child. He's thankful that at least, he does have a family.

The mystery of his brother's death was now resolved and he is about to be eighteen. He does now wonder, what life awaits him after he becomes an active member of the Senate Royal Circle? How can the truth about his brother help him in his role as a politician?
