Chapter Fourteen: Culture Shocked
A/n: I hope you like this chapter! Thank you! Hoping you do forgive me for writing this just now. I just got too busy this past few days that I had no time to write anything here on Wattpad.
Kousei took a deep breath three months after he gave up learning alone inside the Silver Throne Room. He's happy now that he's studying in a proper school and he wasn't just being tutored by his father's chosen professors.
He was welcomed warmly by a lot of students. He definitely had adapted more in his new school at the time Miyazono Kaori joined him already. He immediately introduced her as his girlfriend that shocked a lot of their female classmates but definitely, because of that, other girls were envious and jealous of her. They wondered how a prince like Kousei had fallen in love with a commoner like Kaori. Because of her, the Miyazonos had become a new family of Aristocrats. It wasn't just her mother who's an aristocrat in Atlantis anymore. She had become the same like her mom after becoming a naturalized Atlantian.
Kaori began having a difficult time studying in the Royal University ever since Kousei proclaimed her as his.
Kaori and Kousei were currently sitting at the bench outside of the Silver Throne Room at the Royal Palace that night while they were both studying Ancient History of Atlantis. There are a lot of lights and a lot of bodyguards wearing suits surround them.
Kaori still can't get comfortable with so many armed men around her.
"Kousei?" spoke Kaori. She closed her eyes. The months that passed always made her doubt if she can accept the responsibility of being the one who captured the heart of a boy who was destined to become the next king.
He gazed at her and held her right hand tight after putting down the huge History Text Book he is reading. "I could sense that you are doubting and you suddenly developed self doubt. You aren't also used to being surrounded by bodyguards, aren't you?"
"Yeah. I'm not. Maybe I'm just culture- shocked. I don't know that falling in love with you is a huge responsibility," she told him.
"So, what's your choice? I would always want you to be with me. I was wishing you can adapt in my world," Kousei said to her. "Is my true world difficult for you to live in?"
"I will stay, Kousei. You know how much I love you," she promised him. "I'll do my best to try to really accept your world. I'm still not that used to the life you have here. I am still adapting to the world of my grandfather here, too. I can't believe that my mother is actually the heir of a huge business group here in the Empire of Atlantis. The truth is... Kousei... I never knew that my... No... Our normal life... No... That's not it for you! The Royal Life here is actually what I believe you consider your normal life. Well then, our lives changed completely after your half brother passed away. I saw how much pain his death gave you. I will be here with you."
"Thank you, Kaori," Kousei told her. He hugged her after that. "Without you, I couldn't have survived it."
"I witnessed how they re- trained you to act as a royal prince. Was the weight of the Silver Throne really heavy, Kousei?" she asked him.
He stared at her hand and held it tight. He wanted to make sure that she won't doubt his love for her. Also, he knew by then that she has to explain to her the weight of the throne and the responsibility of the man who wears the silver crown.
"Yes, Kaori. I'm still young. I still don't feel it that much since my sisters are helping me in my tasks but once they marry and I become eighteen, I will be carrying half of father's important jobs." Kousei stood up and took her into his embrace. "Thank you, Kaori. My world would keep being beautiful and happy as long as you are with me."
While they are having a very good time together and chatting with each other, Kousei's personal butler, Eugene, took a bow to him.
"Why are you here, Eugene?" he asked him.
"Your father and Empress Adrianna want to see you, Your Highness. They are summoning you to go in the King's Throne Room," he informed him.
"What about Kaori? Should she accompany me?" he asked him.
"They would want to exclusively talk to you, Your Highness," he told him. "They had said that Kaori should be in the visitor's room now."
He took a deep breath and faced Kaori. "I'll be leaving for a while. Rest well, okay?"
Kaori nodded and the couple kissed their lips for a few seconds. At the same time, the young prince began walking already.
"You're leaving now, then, my lady?" Igor asked Kaori as she step on the white stairs of the vicinity of the Silver Throne.
"Yes. I am. The Crown Prince had some business in the King's Throne," she answered him.
"You're fifteen and I am sure that you can already process what I will tell you," he began to tell her. "Ever since the death of Crown Prince Leondardo, the prince had a lot of things he had to work on. He isn't just studying academics or music. If you do get married with him, you will be able to at least alleviate the weight put to him when you both turn eighteen."
Kaori's cheeks went red. "I really hope our relationship could last that long."
...
Kousei took a deep breath at the time he knelt down in front of his father and at the Empress. "Why summon me, father?" he asked him.
"I have heard that you are going to play your piano in the University's Anniversary Celebration, correct?" he asked him.
"That is correct, father," he replied back to him.
"I had notified the school that the main Royal Family will be coming to watch the celebration and join them. Well, it's still the school the government owns very exclusively anyway since most of our relatives had studied there," he told him. "You are the first prince from the immediate royal family who does sit on the throne to study in the Royal University."
"How is your life there, Kousei? Have you made friends?" asked Empress Adrianna.
"I had already expected that I will be culture shocked at first but I am fine. I made some friends and I mostly hang out with some of my cousins," he answered them. "I will do my best and I will practice well. I am so thankful that you are showing affection for me."
Emperor Richard III hugged his child. "Why wouldn't we? You are my flesh and blood."
Empress Adrianna walked closer to him, too. "I had lost Leonardo but I gained you instead. You talk and move just like him. Both of you really are brothers."
"I hope I could be a good crown prince just like him," he said to them.
"You are a good crown prince, son! Almost everyone in our empire adores you!" Emperor Richard III told him. "I know you'll be a bit surprised by how things had changed. I am also glad that we... Most especially... You... had already accepted his death."
"My brother will always watch me, father. I know he will guide me," he told them. "Even if no one really killed him, I still want to know why he did it."
Since Kousei spoke like that to him, Emperor Richard III told him, "Be careful, son. Go back to your room now and rest."
Kousei took a bow in front of them and left immediately.
While they watch him leave the King's Throne and he is already a distance away from them, Empress Adrianna faced her husband and spoke up, "Kousei should not know the reason why his brother killed himself. It's too pathetic!"
"Silence, Adrianna! We cannot stop the child from knowing why his brother took his life. It was my own mistake, too. I could not believe I chose that girl for Leonardo to marry," he told her.
"What will you do after your only son now discover the truth? Leonardo took his life after he discovered that the girl you chose for him cheated on him? Kousei would definitely flare up!" Adrianna told him. "He will be angry with her and to you, too."
"Adrianna, I will tell him about it soon but I do believe that it is only a tip of the iceberg. There could be something more than cheating," he said to her. "He has to learn to balance his mind and heart."
She hugged her husband and took a deep breath. "Let's go. I'm tired."
Ever since Kousei went home from Japan, Adrianna took herself as Kousei's new mother. Like all mothers, she couldn't stop worrying about him and to what her son is doing as the new crown prince.
