Chapter 26: Setting the standards
"And so, if you put the stones around the fire pit like this, it should prevent any future fire incidents from occurring ever again....should you decide to host another BBQ party" said James as he demonstrated the techniques.
"Thanks James, again I apologize for causing all of this" said a fairy as she began roasting some fish.
"As long as you remember the lesson, all is forgiven. Now then if you'll excuse me, I think I'm needed elsewhere" said James as he eyed the major fairies who were watching him.
"Of course my lord" said the fairy as she nodded.
As James approached the major fairies, they all had smirks on their faces.
"Its a good thing you're a fire user" said Diana.
"Lucky for everybody right?" asked James with a chuckle.
"Anyways James, we just wanted to say goodbye for now" said Aurora.
"Goodbye?" asked James.
"Don't forget, we are the major fairies and we have our own territories to look after. We're not just bound to Tir Nan Og island, we have to be everywhere" said Diana.
"If it makes you feel any better, Nebula will still be here since her place is with the queen" said Sibylla kindly.
"........There's that at least.........but I know we'll see each other again" said James.
"More than see each other again, we'll be keeping touch" said Sibylla.
"Since you're pretty much holding the same rank as us, that means all of us reports directly to the queen herself. And what does that information mean? It means we'll be communicating together when we have something to discuss, which in our case....is the daily routine report" said Aurora with a smile of her own.
"That's......true" said James who was feeling very relieved.
"Anyways, bye for now! We're off! You know where we'll be!" said Diana as she, Aurora and Sibylla all flew off in different directions.
"Well, its just you and me now" said Nebula.
"Actually.......I also have to leave, I'm looking after some orphans and they're probably worried. Its late at night now....." said James.
"Of course, remember my lord, you'll always have access to this place whenever you feel like it" said Nebula.
"Thanks Nebula....really.......and getting called lord will take some getting used to" said James as he disappeared and leaving a smirking Nebula behind.
Appearing in front of the house he had built, James immediately entered it and he soon found all of the orphans fast asleep.
Smiling at that, he soon went to his bed and fell asleep. Now as he did that, something else was happening.
Remember the land and sea relics from a couple of chapters before? Well the thieves that took them actually had sons and now the sons want vengeance.
Of course, they didn't know that their fathers were killed by James, they thought the Earth fairies had killed them. And they also didn't know that their fathers had failed to control the power of the relics, resulting in them turning into mindless monsters.
Right now the relics were in a safe house and it was guarded 24/7. But the boys were small enough to actually sneak past the security and make off with the relics.
By the time the villages discovered this, it was already morning and that's when James and his orphans woke up.
"Ah.........morning" said James as he stretched.
"Ah so you came back! Well finally! We thought you weren't going to come back until tomorrow" said Ogron.
"It was so late at night that we really had to tuck ourselves in" said Gantlos.
"I'm sorry everyone, if its any consolation, I was put in a room for who knows how long and I couldn't leave because the Earth fairy queen had wanted to see me" said James.
"You're serious? The queen herself? Not some other Earth fairy who's pretending to be the queen?" asked Anagan.
"No it was really her and well...........I've been pretty much given the same rank as the major fairies" said James.
"Get out! Really?" asked Duman.
"Yes and I you promise that I have the power to back it up" said James.
"Does that mean that we can live on their island now?" asked Ogron?
"Aw Ogron, I'm afraid that.........you can't. None of you can.........at least not yet. Let me explain, there's this barrier and its the same barrier that's used at a school located far away from this planet. What it does is that it prevents non magical beings from entering the area and that's why you all can't go" said James.
"Aw man......there's goes safety and luxury" said Anagan.
"But don't worry, I know a way to solve that issue. It will probably take years but its better than nothing. I'm going to attempt to teach the four of you....how to harness Earth's energy and become wizards" said James.
"Like you?" asked Gantlos.
"Like me! Different power source but still wizards nonetheless. If the four of you are successful, you'll understand the benefits and risks of becoming magical beings. So what do you say?" asked James.
".......We'll do it! But what are the risks and benefits?" asked Ogron.
"Well..........the benefits for one is that you'll gain an extended lifespan because of your magic but its honestly.....never been done....for a human on Earth before so I honestly can't guarantee if whether or not you'll have that. The second benefit is that you now have a surefire way to always defend yourselves from regular and mystical threats....mostly mystical" said James.
"I'm sure there's more but now....what are the downsides?" asked Anagan.
"The first downside is that....now that you have power.....you always have to take into account that you could have it taken from you. Once you fully bond with your newfound power, it stays there like it was a part of you. Which means that if its taken from you, there's a high chance that you won't be able to recover your energy.....you can't replace it. You'll become regular again and you all know what else will happen. The second is just like the first, you must always remember that you are now targets for the powerless or power hungry. What you possess is what all humans would consider an advantage in everything and everyone wants that" said James.
"Aw man...." said Duman.
"The choice must be yours, if you're willing to through it despite those issues, then I will make the four of you certified wizards" said James.
".......I'm in" said Ogron.
"Same" said Gantlos.
"Me too" said Duman.
"Sounds hard but sure" said Anagan.
"..........Alright then.......no matter what happens.......I'm proud....." said James before he got interrupted.
What interrupted him was an earthquake and it was strong. Quickly rushing outside, James could not believe what he was seeing. The orphans soon came out and they saw it too.
"Aren't...........aren't those the creatures that you took care of?" asked Ogron.
"Yes, they are! But how? Actually never mind, forget about how. I need to get in there now!" said James.
"What about the Earth fairies? Do they know about this?" asked Gantlos.
"I don't think they do..........alright, all of you need to hide in the house. Do you trust me to take care of this?" asked James.
"Take care of those things? Yes, now go!" shouted Ogron as he and the others hid.
Smiling and knowing that they will be safe, James quickly teleported himself to Tir Nan Og and the Earth fairies there immediately greeted him.
"James my lord, this is a surprise" said a fairy.
"Glad to see you as well Katherine but we don't have a lot of time! Quickly, rally the troops! Emergency! Red alert on the mainland!" shouted James.
"Red alert?! Y....yes my lord! At once!" said Katherine as she and the other fairies immediately flew away to get help.
Morgana and Nebula soon came out of the castle and flew right in front of James.
"What is happening? We heard shouting" said Morgana.
"There's trouble on the mainland my queen, remember the Earth and Sea relics? They're causing trouble again" said James.
"Again?! Who tried to control their power this time?!" wondered Nebula with a hand on her face in disbelief.
"I don't know but with your permission my queen, I think I really should destroy those relics for good. Nothing good is coming out from them, only trouble" said James.
"I agree......I'm sure the village elder will agree as well. Very well then, go James! Lead your forces to victory!" said Morgana.
"I will" said James as he crossed his right arm over his chest.
"We're here James! Ready to heed your command" said a fairy and a lot more of them quickly flew behind her.
"Thank you Sophie! Move out now! I'll meet you on the mainland!" said James as he teleported himself back there.
Arriving at the heart of the threat, James quickly knocked away an incoming debris and make sure that the remaining villages got away safely. Seeing the village elder, James soon reassured him that help was on its way.
"So it would seem that you've made contact with the Earth fairies after all" said the elder.
"I have.....and you're looking at one of their leaders" said James.
Right on cue, the group of Earth fairies from Tir nan Og island soon landed right behind James.
"We're here lord protector" said Katherine.
Quite frankly, the villages and the elder were surprised. This person in front of them, one of the fairy leaders?
Turning around, James smiled warmly at the fairies and they all smiled back at him. He soon became serious and quickly addressed the situation.
"Alright listen up, five of you, stay here and guard the people from those monsters. 3 of you, escort the remaining villages who are evacuating here and also keep them safe from harm. The rest of you, follow me and prepare for direct engagement" said James as he brought out his swords and charged straight into the fire.
The fairies soon did as they were told and they were quite fast and efficient at it as well. As James and his group of fairies charged right at the monsters, he quickly issued another command.
"I need 4 of you to quickly prepare a massive scale immobilizing spell. Even if it lasts for a brief time, it still helps. Now, we'll split into two groups from here! Half of you will come with me, we'll deal with that water monster. And as for the other half, you take the land monster. Remember to be safe and be sure to fly around its attacks and its fiery body. Now scatter!" shouted James.
As everyone did so, James began throwing energy arcs from his swords and they began slicing away the water monster's arms.
"Keep your distance! My attacks may work on it but I'm very uncertain about all of yours. Our task will be to distract it and redirect it!" said James.
"What do you have in mind my lord?" asked a fairy.
"We'll be using that water monster to our advantage, we're going to collide it against that fiery monster, its counterpart. Can you and the others push it towards me? I'm going towards the land monster now" said James.
"Will do my lord! You all heard him girls, push that water monster towards his direction!" shouted the fairy as she and the others began firing at the water monster.
Upon seeing that, James quickly rushed towards the land monster and he could see the other Earth fairies doing their best to fight against this creature.
"Hang on girls, I'm coming!" shouted James as he jumped onto the Earth monster's arm and ripped it off.
The Earth monster yelled and growled in pain as lava continued seeping from the stump that used to be its arm. But of course since it was lava, it would form a new arm eventually....but James wasn't going to give it that chance.
Working together with the fairies, James and the girls blasted the lava monster towards the water monster and soon both monsters were approaching each other.
With some clever flying from the fairies on the other side, they were successful in tricking the water monster. And now, the Earth monster was completely engulfed by the water monster and its fire got put out.......it was just rocks now. And the water monster also became weak because of the intense heat from the Earth monster evaporating a majority of its water based body. It just couldn't move anymore.
But James wasn't taking any chances and he wasn't going to give the monsters any time to recover at all.
"Now! Release the binds!" shouted James.
"Yes sir!" said the 4 fairies as they unleashed their spell.
It was strong and it was successful in keeping the monsters in place. James smiled and he was genuinely impressed.
"Now to end this, no magic required, just good old fashion.....old school beating!" declared James.
He immediately jumped towards the monsters with his powerful legs and his speed was incredible. Rearing his right hand back, James punched right through the two monsters with his mighty judgement fist and the impact of it actually triggered an explosion.
Laughing and cheering, the fairies all landed at the exact spot where James came back down. Giving each other pats on the backs and hugs, it was great. Sensing that the threat was over, the other fairies that were protecting the villages also joined in since the threat was now gone.
A little while later, James carried the two relics and dropped them right in front of the village elder.
"Would you mind if I do it?" asked James.
".......Its for the best, humans just aren't ready or meant to control such power. Do it lord protector, you have my authority and no regrets from anyone" said the village elder.
Nodding his head, James smashed the two relics by slamming his big left foot onto them. When you're the same height as the fairies, you're already considered huge.
The shards of the relics soon evaporated into nothingness and the villagers cheered when it happened.
"Thank you Earth fairies, you may return home now. I'll see you all soon, I have to report to the queen after all" said James as he smiled at them.
Smiling back and hugging him, the fairies soon fluttered their wings and flew towards Tir Nan Og island.
"I'll tell you everything about my new position another day...." said James.
Nodding, the village elder watched as James jumped towards the forest and he was soon out of sight. James was soon right in front of his Earth house and the orphans were glad to see him.
"We could hear and see the explosion!" said Duman.
"You've got to teach us some of those moves" said Gantlos.
"We wanna learn your tricks too" said Anagan.
".......Alright then boys, like I promised.....we'll begin your wizard training tomorrow! But for now, since we've skipped breakfast, its lunch time!" said James as he brought out mushrooms for mushroom soup.
"James.............hello? James?" said Bloom.
Present
Returning to the present time, James could see the winx all looking at him with concern.
"Are you alright? Lately you've been.....out of it" said Musa.
"I..........its fine girls, really. Just reminiscing the good old days" said James.
"Ok......anyways we've dealt with the robbers and we can go back to Alfea now" said Stella.
"Oh.....right, of course! Um, I've already paid for everything so yeah! Just let me finish my.......cream of mushroom soup" said James as he began finishing it.
"Sorry about that James, we'll pay you back later" said Flora.
On their way back to Alfea, James kept on insisting that the winx didn't need to pay him back but the girls were persistent and kept on insisting about paying him back.
Meanwhile with the police, the policemen were just about finished with getting the robbers into their police car.
"Thank goodness those fairies were there, who knows what this universe would do without them?" said a policemen.
"Hey, did you notice that prince James was with them?" asked another policemen.
"Was he?" asked the first policemen.
"Yes! He was that boy" said the second policemen.
"That was him?! Oh no...I didn't recognize him, we could have certainly used his help......." said the first policemen.
"Your fault for not recognizing him, he's probably feeling down because of it. I've been to his fan club and I know he's very prone to feeling neglected......." said the second policemen.
"Oh boy.........I sure hope I didn't hurt his feelings too much, its just that fairies are so recognizable now and James is literally hiding in plain sight. Next time I see him, I'm gonna make it up to him" said the first policemen.
"If you can even recognize him" said the second policemen with a smirk and earning a glare from the first policemen.
"What have I done to deserve this?" wondered the first policemen with a sigh.
