Chapter 1
(Picture of Eva)
Hi everybody. This is my first book and I really hope you will like it. Sorry for the grammar mistakes, I know there will be a lot of them as English is not my first language but I am doing my best to correct as much of them as I can. Please don't hesitate to comment what you think.
Chapter 1
"Where are you hiding?" I called out teasingly when I walked into the hospital room. I looked around the room when my eyes layed on small feet sticking out from back of the chair.
"Come on superman, I need your help with this." I said with a smirk on my face folding my arms on my chest. In that moment a 7 year old boy jumped out with his red towel attached to his neck as a cape.
"I am here Lois. What do you need from me?" he walked slowly towards me.
"Well superman I really need to give this medication to one of my dearest patient but I am not sure if he will allow me to." I showed him his usual shot with sad face. He paced his hand through his hair and frowned.
"I think I can persuade him." he said after a while of thinking.
"That would be great. Do you think you can call him here?" I asked him.
"Let me see." He said and ran to his bathroom.
After few seconds he came back without his cape.
"Hello doctor Cruz. I heard you were looking for me?" He came to me with huge grin on his face and his sparkling blue eyes were full of mischief.
"Yes Clark I have been looking for you. I have your IV." I played along and showed him his shot again. He jumped on his bed, sat down and stretched out his right arm to me.
"Gently please." He said to me with serious face and looked away. I smiled to myself.
"Like always." I replied.
This kid is in the hospital two months already. He is waiting for the transplantation of his heart. His name is Clark and obviously his favorite superhero is Superman. I can't help but always act with him when he is playing like superman. He once told me that I am his Lois Lane, so we sticked with it. I can't imagine to live in the hospital for two months. I love my job but I still didn't learned how to not get attached to my little patients. Every one of them has their own place in my heart.
"Hello doctor Cruz. " I heard very familiar voice.
"Hi nurse George" I smiled at my friend and colleague George as I walked through the hospital hallway. He is probably the only person I can trust in this hospital. Everyone here are the most gossiping people I have ever met. And that is something as I come from a little village in Spain where everyone knows everyone and everything about them. I left that place when I was eighteen and went to university in Madrid. And now I'm working as a doctor in London hospital. I love London. And I love to be here but I miss my home. Unfortunately I can't go back. I can't stand that feeling of never coming back. Never seeing my hometown and Madrid. But I know I'm safe here.
"What are you doing this weekend? You have a free weekend right?" George asked me as we passed the hallway to coffee machine.
"Yes I have and I'll be in bed for the most of the time. This week was really tiring. I can't wait for my bubble bath when I come home." I said as I took my coffee from the machine.
"I'm jealous of you. I would love to have this weekend free but nurse Jane is on vacation so I'm stuck here. I want to go party so bad." I looked at him and took a sip of my coffee.
"Ok, I know you wouldn't go with me, so I'm not even asking." He pointed at me.
"I just don't understand how come you never go into a bar or just party somewhere. You live only once girl." he said.
"Please don 't go on me with the YOLO thing. Partying is just not for me. " I replied.
"I can tell that, but why don't you go out maybe you would get hooked up with some gorgeous man and you would make some gorgeous babies together with those gorgeous genes of yours . Girl I am telling you that if you agreed I would turn straight for you. I don't understand why you are still single." I looked at him amused.
"I am satisfied with my current situation." I replied.
"But if you would allow me I could find you someone..." he didn't finished his sentence as he was interrupted by some old lady.
"George, darling, here you are." the old lady said as she scrolled the hallway on her wheelchair.
"Mrs. Blunt, what are you doing in pediatrics ward?" George asked her as he almost spit his coffee on the floor.
"Well I have been looking for you and the other nurse said you went here so I came for you. I need your help with something. I am going out tonight, well actually I am not going out, but Mr. Clarkson from the other room asked me if I want to go on a date with him, so we are going to eat our dinner together." she said excitingly.
"Awww" me and George said in union.
"And what do you need from me?" he asked smiling.
"I need your advice. What should I wear? I know that you are good at this."
"Well you came for the right person. I AM actually good at this." he replied proudly.
"Oh, I love you, if only you were little bit older" she said with smile on her face. Me and George laughed at that.
"Oh Mrs. Blunt, even if I was older, ..." he started but she interrupted him again.
"I know I am not your type" she laughed. "Did I tell you that my grandson is gay too? Maybe you should go out with him." she continued.
"Yes Mrs. Blunt you already told me." he looked at me with desperate expression.
"You know what? We should go to pick up some clothes for your date." he said to her.
"Yes, you are right, we should go." She said quickly. He smiled at me, gave me a hug and wished me nice weekend. George never had the problem to admit he is gay. Lots of girls were crazy for his dreamy blue eyes, blond hair and his fit body. Unfortunately for them, he never cared.
As I finished examinations of my other patients I finally headed home after 16 hours of work. I can't wait for my bathtub, candles and glass of red wine.
When I walked into the living room of our three bedroom flat I found my roommate Mia lying on our comfortable grey sofa.
"Hi Mia. How was your day?" I asked her as I walked by her to the kitchen to grab something to eat.
"Horrible. I think I have a food poisoning. I don't know. I vomit every thirty minutes. All day." she squeaked .
"Oh no." I said and went to look at her. "Do you have a fever?" I asked her and put my palm on her forehead. It wasn't burning so she can't have a fever.
"No. I don 't. I checked it." she replied
"Did you take any medication to get better?" I asked her.
"No, I can 't find anything." she said desperately .
"How come you didn't find anything. Did you look in my bedroom?" i asked her surprised.
"No"she replied.
"Why didn't you called me?" I asked her and went to my bedroom for the medication.
"I didn't wanted to disturb you." I heard her from the living room as I found the medication.
"Nonsense. I told you to call me whenever you want only the "I met this new guy" calls are still forbidden." I told her as I came back to the living room. She used to call me almost every day only to inform me she met some hot guy and she is in love with him even after knowing him almost one hour.
"Here take this." I gave her a medicine and grabbed some water from the table.
"Thanks." she took it and swallowed it. She started to stand up but she suddenly put her hand on her head.
"Wow. My head is spinning." she said with her hand on her head.
"Sit down." I commanded her "You are probably dehydrated." I said.
"But I have to go to work" she said desperately.
"No you can't. As your doctor I am not allowing you to go." I said firmly.
"But Eva. I have to go. I can't afford to lose my job. And if I don't come they will fire me. I will not find replacement after me in this hour." She is right. Keeping a job like she has is really hard and replacement in last minute is impossible.
"You know what? What if I took your job for tonight? So you can get better." I asked her as I brought her bottle of water so she keeps herself hydrated. As tired as I was I wanted to help her.
"Here drink lots of water, so you feel better and it will keep you hydrated and I don't have to be afraid you will pass out from dehydration."
"You would do that?" she asked me surprised. Although I was tired like crazy I couldn't let her go to work in this condition.
"Of course I would do that. I waited on tables when I was at college. I still remember that." I smiled at her.
——-
I came to the bar where Mia works and I had to show the bouncer my ID and I had to call Mia and give him to the phone so he could let me in. It is a very fancy bar with loud music but sitting areas looks very discreet. There is glass and mirrors everywhere and the different colored lights make it even more glamorous.
"Hi. I am Eva. I'm here tonight as Mia's replacement." I said to a bartender as I came to the bar.
"Do you know where the manager is?" I asked her.
"Hey. Mia called me that you would come. Do you see the old guy in the tuxedo and red bowtie?" she pointed a finger at the older guy with beard and black hair who was talking to the customers at one table. The tuxedo was grey with cubicles style so he kind of looked like clown in the lights.
"That's him. But you don't have to tell him, just go to the dressing room back there and put on the black uniform. It is hanging there. It should fit you." she said to me and pointed at the door next to the bar .
"Thanks" I nodded and went to the dressing room. When I walked in, there was only one dress hanging there.
"Ooo noo." I sighed.
"What have I got myself into?" I said to myself as I started to put on a really short mini skirt and tight black shirt with vest, white bowtie and sexy black knee-socks.
"Perfect. The gown of my dreams." I said as I looked at myself in the mirror. I guess sarcasm will not help. I was looking for shoes and I found them under the cabinet. Heels? Are you kidding me? How am I supposed to wait on the tables in this?
