Epilogue
Epilogue
Danny sat backwards in the swivel chair with me in the hospital the next day. I watched in amusement as he turned around in circles successfully entertaining me in the hospital bed. It had been a long night and didn't just end with a trip to the ER. Then earlier this morning, a small surgery to ensure my ulna would properly aligned before casting. The doctor describe it to me as a displaced fracture. Basically, when I fell to the ground by putting all my weight onto my right arm it snapped.
Last night Stiles drove me to the hospital after apologizing for driving through the wall. He then joked the at least he didn't drive a few more feet to the right, which didn't make me feel any better and he apologized yet again. But I easily forgave him, it was Stiles after all. The car ride to the hospital gave us just enough time to come up with my cover story— My mom, dad, and Danny came as soon as I had Isaac call them on my phone late last night around twelve.
I had entered the hospital around late eleven o'clock last night and it had been in here for about twelve almost thirteen hours now. They had my arm in a temporary cast for the time being, until the could do a proper x-ray to examine the bones and to make sure that they properly relined the bones in my arm.
"You're going to make me sick spinning like that Danny," I joked as he spun rapidly around and round in the chair.
"That's the whole point," he laughed as he continued to spin. For a moment, he stopped spinning and glanced over at Isaac who was sleeping on a plastic couch on the other side of the waiting room. "Do you ever feel like there's something off here Jamie?" Danny asked peculiarly. I felt my heart skip a beat as I watched him eye my closely. "It's just... lately I feel you've been keep stuff from me."
I didn't meet his eyes, instead looked off behind his head. "All the time," I said softly glancing at Isaac from over his shoulder.
He was silent for a minute, still before the tension broke and he began spinning around in his chair again. "Danny!" I whined as he moved faster and faster until he almost hit the wall behind him. I began laughing loudly until I remembered who else was in the room. I glanced over to the couch that was set up by the window and smiled when I saw Isaac knocked out across it. He was so tall his feet dangled off the end of it, but it was adorable nonetheless.
"If you don't stop spinning this instant Danny," my mother scolded as she walk in beside my father. The two had been here all night along with Danny. They had been moving in and out of rooms, sleeping in lobbies, and been by my side most of the night. About an hour ago the Ms. McCall came in and informed them that I would be leaving this afternoon as soon as they we're able to equip me with the proper casting. So the two went home to grab me some clean clothing.
Danny groaned, but stopped sitting in the chair and moved to sit on the end of my bed so our mother could sit in the chair. She put her purse along with plastic bag down over on the table in the corner while my dad placed the food he had bought down beside it.
"I can't believe that cute boy has been here all night with you Jamie," my mother gushed. "It's so sweet and romantic. Did he finally fall asleep after we left?"
I blushed looking over at Isaac who was still asleep comfortably in the chair. He had been awake all night and with me whenever he could be. Isaac had been awake since early yesterday morning and had a lacrosse game, and had been fighting all night so the giant bags under his eyes finally got to me, and I forced him to lay down. Reluctantly he did, and talked to Danny and I until he fell asleep five minutes later.
"I forced him to lie down, maybe twenty minutes. He would have stayed awake longer if I didn't," I explained. I watch as his body slightly twitched and his arm groggily moved to rub his face. I sighed loudly as he sat up in his seat. "I'm so sorry I woke you up Isaac," I frowned.
"No you didn't," he tried explaining, his voice slightly hoarse from sleeping. "The couch wasn't comfortable anyways."
"You barely slept an hour. And after last night I know you must be tired."
Isaac shrugged his shoulders and walked over towards the bed. "Jamie," he said grabbing my hand. "I'm fine really. It doesn't take me long to get my energy back." I nodded understanding what he meant, just another perk of being a werewolf I guess.
Dad starting talking to Isaac and Danny about the game last night while I looked over at my mom trying to discreetly get her attention. When she didn't look up, I waved my good arm for a second or two and watched her lifted her head up from her phone. She gave me a curious look and I tried to talk to her with my eyes so that no one would hear. Her eyebrow furrowed and she leaned closer. I sighed and reluctantly whispered in her ear, "Can you guys give Isaac and I a minute alone please?" She nodded, but before she could say anything I added, "Discreetly please."
My mother nodded and stood up. "Okay boys, none of us have eaten nothing but vending machine food since last night. Let's go get something to eat," she said grabbing her purse. Dad and Danny both looked at her suspiciously, but went with it anyways. "What would you like Isaac?"
"Oh no thank you. I'm not that hungry," he smiled at my mother.
She sighed. "I'm not taking that as an answer. How about a slice of pizza or a burger? I haven't seen you eat at all."
It looked like Isaac was just about to refuse, but I glared at him and arched my eyebrow, a silent signal be better accept something. "Anything Mrs. Mahealani, thank you," he accepted.
My mother smiled triumphantly before walking out the door. "I just asked you at the house if you where hungry and you said no," my father said as he followed my mothers lead out of the room.
"I wasn't hungry then, and that was over thirty minutes ago," she quipped as they walked out into the hallway. The last thing I heard of her was her calling Danny to move fast.
Danny sighed but stood up from the edge of the bed to follow, but before he left, he turned around and grabbed the door, it was almost closed when he stuck his head back in. "You've got twenty minutes for your make out session so make it quick," he smirked closing the door behind him.
Isaac sat down on the left hand side of my bed. "I knew I liked Danny for some reason," he joked.
I shrugged, giggling a little. "Everybody likes Danny." I smiled leaning in to kiss him. It was nothing big, because I was pretty restricted with my arm and all, but it was special. That tingling kind of special that makes yous squirm in your seat.
"Jamie?" Isaac asked. I pulled back slightly so I could look up at him and smiled even brighter when I saw his eyes staring down at me.
"What? Why'd you stop? We don't have that long before they come back."
"You know yesterday when we where in the main lobby and I tried to tell you something, but we got cut off," he started.
I nodded remembering back only yesterday or so ago when we were about to kiss, but Ms. McCall got there. "Yeah, I remember."
"Well I wanted to tell you about the other night, the night of Lydia's party. Derek had us locked up right over in one of the train cars back in the warehouse," he explained. "Before Erica, Body, and I shifted I asked him how he kept under control during the full moon. And he said that werewolves had to find their anchors to control the shift."
"Did you say anchor? Like a ship anchor?" I asked curiously.
He nodded. "Basically, yeah. But for werewolves it's something meaningful to you. We bind yourself to it. It helps keep the human side in control."
"So it's something different for everyone?"
"Derek's said his was anger," Isaac suggested. "Scott's was Allison."
The concept was kind of foreign. That's the way everything was to me lately, but I tried to be more accepting. "So what's your anchor?"
"I don't know yet," he answered, but grabbed my good hand in his and rubbed over my thumb. "I have a good idea for a while now though," he says smiling that beautiful cheeky smile of his.
I felt a sloppy grin cover my face and I used my good hand to pull him down to me. "Then I think I found my anchor to," I breathed. Isaac smiled and pulled my lips to his softly.
Everything was perfect, for now at least. This was Beacon Hills after all, nothing would ever be normal again. But for the meantime, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
