Chapter 14.
I knew somewhere in the back of my mind I had feelings for Isaac Lahey, and somehow I always forgot. That was until I pulled back from our embrace and stared right at his face. It was so strange to me how he was able to show up and instantly change my attitude for the day. Maybe because after everything that happened last night I felt closer to him.
My eyes shifted to the left and I noticed the weird look both Scott and Stiles were giving us. I didn't really bother me until I noticed that so was everybody else in the room. Sheepishly, I let go of Isaac and slid into the seat in front of him before the final bell rang. Throughout class, I found myself turning around and smiling at him every few minutes in class. Even through it was kinda silly, I was overwhelmed when Isaac would always smile warmly back at me. I always turned back around before he could see the red blush creep up the side of my face, but I knew I couldn't hide the racing beat of my heart from him.
At the end of class, I stuffed by folder into my backpack and looked over to see Isaac waiting for me. I smiled cheekily, and practically floated over to him and we left the classroom together. "So why are you back in school?" I asked him as we walked down the hallway. After realizing how rude that sounded, I quickly when to change it. "I mean it's not like I don't want you here, I do. I really do, but I thought the other day you said you couldn't come back to school until you were cleared of all charges."
"I was," Isaac announced.
I light up. "For real! I'm so happy for you," I beamed hugging him again. He gladly weaved his arms around me, and I quickly let go, but as I went to drop my hand, I felt his hand graze over mine. He didn't make a move to hold my hand, but I can't say I didn't want him. "When did this happen?"
"Just a few minutes before second period actually," he explained. We hadn't walked far down the hallway and we were already receiving strange looks from everyone that passed us. They were probably just shocked to see Isaac back after what happened, and so suddenly to. I mean I sure was.
I was even more shocked when I heard the loud jingling of bracelets and the tapping of high heels fall in step on the other side of Isaac. I leaned around his large frame, and my smile slightly faltered when I saw Erica. "Jamie, how cute," Erica raved. She smirked at me before tugging Isaac arm and pulling him ahead. "Come on Isaac, Derek told me to tell you something," she said smirking at me from behind Isaac back.
My lips curled into a frown, and that only seemed to fuel Erica even more, but suddenly, Isaac ripped his arm out of her's. "I guess I'll see you later Jamie, I'm sorry. Maybe I'll see you during lunch," Isaac smiled. Erica scoffed, before strutting ahead of us.
"It's okay, I understand you guys have got your "pack thing" you need to deal with," I emphasize, putting air quotes around pack thing. Isaac slightly chuckled, and from the corner of my eye I could see Erica glaring and Danny watching in curiosity as he stood beside Jackson who just so happened to also be glaring at us. "Plus I have to go talk to Danny, so... I guess I'll see you later to." I really didn't want to go, but as Isaac said good-bye, I followed suit, and watch as he walked towards Erica.
Slowly, I walked over to my brother and his best friend who where standing in the side of the hallway. "Hey," I popped in. Danny warmly smiled at me, and Jackson continued to be Jackson and shrugged me off. But suddenly, he cringed and had this lost look in his eye almost as if he was in pain. I looked at him oddly, but ignored his strange behavior.
"So what were you doing with Isaac, Jamie?" Danny inquired as he leaned against the lockers.
"Nothing," I responded to quickly, and I think Danny caught on. Even if I didn't tell him, he was bound to find out sooner or later, I mean he was my brother, not to mention my twin. I awaited a rude comment from Jackson telling me that I shouldn't be hanging around someone as "lame" as Isaac, but nothing came. When I looked at Jackson's face, he reflected this lost look in his eye, and gazed into dead space. All of a sudden, the warning bell rang, and I watch in shock as his hand flew to his ears and he became on wide alert. "Are you okay Jackson?" I asked concerned. He behavior was far too absurd to just let slide by, but as I turned to look at Danny he didn't seem phased by his friends odd action.
"I'm fine Jamie," he sneered before shoved past me, fast walking to class.
My mouth hung open in complete and utter shock. "What the hell is his problem?"
"A lot more than I think I understand," Danny answered.
I turned to look at him confused. "What is that supposed to mean? Do you know what's going on with him lately?" I remember Danny telling me of Jackson's odd behavior and telling me that Jackson also want him to recover some video he took a few nights ago.
"Nothing just forget about it," he railed. "Let's get to class," he added quickly. And we walked in silence to class.

I walked into chemistry with Mr. Harris and smiled when I saw Lydia. After what happened in Coach Finstock's class earlier, I think she needed some to comfort her. Sadly, today we didn't share the same lunch, so now was the only other time I would be able to see her today, but maybe I could convince her to come over and spend the night tonight or something.
Earlier today in math, I don't know exactly what happened to Lydia, but she went up to the board and started writing an odd combination of letters several times, the exact same thing all over the board, then started to have a panic attack. Her fragile state took me by surprise. What made me infuriated was when everybody decided it was okay laugh at her. I was real quick to shut them up though, after I snapped. Lydia was my best friend, and I refused to have mocked and ridiculed. She was still insecure about everything after her rouge state, and that random outburst by Jackson the other day wasn't helping her either.
So when Lydia noticed me slide into the seat next to her, I saw a small smile of release. I pulled out the bar stool at the lab table and sat next to my best friend. "Today has been the worst day of my life," she frowned drastically, hiding her head in my shoulder. I rubbed her shoulder, knowing there wasn't much I could say. Today hadn't been the best day for Lydia. "Thank you for sticking up for me back there."
I grinned at her, "Your my best friend. I know you would have done the same thing for me if that would have happened. I mean you already have tons of times, when I've had to read in front of the class, and I've messed up before, because of... well you know." I hinted towards my dyslexia. It was always a fear of mine, having to read in front of a large group of people. It's not like I could avoid it, but on the occasions I did have to read, I tried my hardest not to screw up. Sometimes I can read clearly, but when I couldn't and somebody decided to snicker at me, Lydia immediately stopped them.
"You have an excuse to why you sometimes mess up in class. Me, on the other hand, I don't even know what's wrong with me, and that's the scary part," she explained trying to keep a straight face. She already had to go to the bathroom to fix her make up once, I didn't think she would want to do it again. "I just don't even want to think of what everyone is saying about me, especially--"
"Don't say his name," I cut her off. "He's not worth your time anymore." Lydia somewhat confidently nodded her head. "Hey, I was think you should spend the night? We haven't had a sleep over in forever. Just you and me without Allison, not that I don't want her there I quickly add in. But it hasn't been just the two of us in a long time." As I explain I noticed Isaac walk into class. When he noticed me he smirked and winked, before striding to the back of the class.
Lydia must have noticed because she smacked my arm, and tugged me close so she could whisper in my ear. "Yeah definitely, because we need to talk about how Lahey had all eye for you," she charmed giggling slightly.
Violently blushing, I hoped Isaac didn't hear what she said. I didn't dare to turn around and check, because then he would see how tinged my checks had become. "Lydia, shut up. He can hear us!" I whisper shouted back.
"He can't hear us, Jamie. He's talking to Erica at the back of the class," she exaggerated.
I only scoffed and mumbled under my breath, "That's what you think."
Without any warning, Scott and Stiles pulled up two bar stools from nearby lab stations and sat on either side of Lydia and I. We didn't say anything to them, but we shared an ghastly look with each other. Our two person lab station, was being invaded by two too many people. Allison then entered the classroom and gave us another odd look, and looked directly at Scott. I didn't know what was going on, but whatever it was had to be strange—I mean Stilinski was involved, it had to be something weird.
The final bell rang and every else standing up hurried to their seats before Mr. Harris could scold them. "Einstein once said, "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; And I'm not sure about the universe." I myself have encountered infinite stupidity," Mr. Harris said patting Stiles shoulder as he stood behind him. I tried no to crack a smile, because Stiles was a really nice kid, but Mr. Harris has always had it out for him, so the stunt he was trying to pull with Lydia and I wasn't going to work, as long as he was teaching. He seemed to completely ignore Scott's presence at the other side of the table.
"So to combat the plague of ignorance in my class," Mr. Harris continued, "you're going to combine efforts through a round of group experiments. Let's see if two heads are indeed better than one. Or in Mr. Stilinski's case, less than one. Erica, you take the first station. You'll start with--" Every guy, and even a few girls, in the class; besides Scott, Stiles, and Isaac, raised their hands to work with her. It kinda ticked me off now that she experienced a makeover, everyone want to work with her, but before her partners regrettingly worked with her. "I didn't ask for volunteers. Put your hormonal little hands down. Start with Mr. McCall. All right, next two."
The look on Scott's face told me he wasn't that excited to work with Erica, but he listened to Mr. Harris and partnered up with her. At least we would be switching partners every few minutes so he would be stuck with her for too long. He paired the rest of us off and I smiled as I limped my way over to Isaac. Suddenly I was stopped when Scott tugged on my arm. "Don't talk to Isaac," he whispered lowly.
My heart started beating, at what Isaac told me yesterday. He was a werewolf, and I had to move cautiously. I've known Scott since we were in elementary school together, so I didn't expect him to hurt me, but I couldn't be to careful. "Why not?"
"Miss Māhealani please get to your station," Mr. Harris sternly told me.
"Sorry," I blubbered sheepishly.
"Trust me Jamie," Scott urged. I look at Erica next to him smirking at me, and I nodded. I didn't really intend to listen to Scott, but I didn't want Mr. Harris yelling at me again, so I hurried over to me seat, and grinned at him.
"How's your ankle? I didn't notice you limping that bad earlier."
I shrugged. I felt bad for not listening to Scott, but not too bad at the same time. "It just really hurts right now. It's been a while since I took my pain pills." I said as I started to pour a clear chemical into the 250 ml beaker. I continued to read the instructions, when I looked around and noticed how strangely everyone was acting. That's when I noticed Erica turn around and smirk at Isaac. "What's going on Isaac?"
He looked at me curiously. "What do you mean?"
I frowned. "I think you know what I mean. What's her problem?" He followed my eyes to the back of Erica's head. "Does this have something to do with the thing?"
Isaac sighed and nodded. "Whatever that thing was last night is in here, and we have to make sure that we're right," he whispered so quietly into my ear I could feel his breath of my ear. I nodded. I didn't say anything more, as my heart pounded ferociously in my chest. I could feel Isaac staring at the side of my head as I continued with the experiment, that's when he took a piece of my brown hair and twirled it between his fingers. It didn't know if my heart could beat any faster than it already was, but it did. The fact that Isaac could hear it loud and clear, made my face tinge red. It was the signs of a basic crush, and I knew that. I just hoped, Isaac didn't.
"Do I make you nervous Jamie," Isaac smirks.
I looked over at him as his blue eyes that sparkled with a tingle of gold in them. I look at his curly, unruly hair, and his leather jacket, and take note of how hot he looked in it. "No," I tried to keep a straight face. I bite my lower lip and turn away back to the experiment, hoping Mr. Harris would ding the bell so we could change partners.
"Are you sure?" he leered. He knew what he was doing, and that scared me. I then felt his hand rest of my bare thigh, and I gasped. I was wearing shorts so I could easily feel the warm of his hand on my leg since most of it was uncovered.
I shook my head furiously. "Nope," my voice barely above a whisper.
"How about now?" he asked his hand rising up my thigh. I didn't know what to do, his behavior was so shocking, so out of character, yet in the strangest way. it had me wanting more.
I didn't know if I was going to be able to say anything else to him. Thankfully, Mr. Harris rung the bell and I let out a breath of air I didn't know I was holding. "Switch," Mr. Harris blatantly said.
Quickly, I stood up and was about to join Allison, when I heard Isaac. "Bye Jamie," he smirked at me.
I chuckled shyly. "Bye Isaac." I walked over to Allison and sat in the seat next to her. She had he mouth dropped open as she looked at me and proceeded to stir the experiment at her table. "What?" I asked quizzically.
"Do you think I'm blind?" she asked. Promptly I said no, and she gave me a knowing look."I'm talking about you and Isaac back there."
I would blush, but my face was already red, so it was effortless. "It was nothing," I tried defending myself.
"Nothing! Jamie he was obviously flirting with you!" she whisper shouted. I looked over at Isaac who was now partnered with Stiles.
"You think so?" I ask apprehensively.
"Definitely," she answered. "Do you like him?" she hinted silently.
I shrugged, "I don't know, how I feel about him."
Allison nodded understandingly, "Just be careful."
Scott, now Allison. Who else was going to tell me that. "Listen to me, okay? Don't talk to Erica or Isaac."
I scoffed. "Don't worry about Erica, I won't as long as she keeps acting like a bitch. And Isaac, I think I know what's best for me."
"I'm just trying to help you. Isaac isn't a good guy, Jamie. I don't think you see it, but--" she was cut of by the bell and I was glad. I didn't want to spend my time arguing with her.
I went to move to the next station, and frowned when I ended up sitting with a stranger. I knew who he was, it was Cameron Spindle, but that didn't mean I was comfortable partnering up with him. We had small talk with each other asking the other about our day, and how the school year was, as we finished the experiment. It was supposed to look like a crystal after the catalyzation, but whoever sat here before me totally screwed up the experiment, and frowned at the gooey mess we had in front of us.
The final ding went off and Mr. Harris began to talk again. "If you've catalyzed the reaction correctly, you should now be looking at a crystal. Now for the part of that last experiment I'm sure you'll all enjoy - You can eat it."
"Do you want it?" Cameron asked as he pointed down to the disaster in the beaker.
"You know what, I think I'll pass this time." Cameron chuckled.
"Lydia!" Scott suddenly shouted across to Lydia, as she began to eat her perfect crystal.
"What!" Lydia snapped back at him.
"Nothing," he calmly said, sitting back in his seat. Scott's odd behavior had me thinking for the rest of class.

School had ended an thirty minutes ago, and I had been sitting in the library on my phone listening to music as I waited for Danny and camera boy, Matt Daehler, to finish restoring Jackson's video. Today had been a bad day to ride with Danny, and I wish I would have taken my own car this morning. He told me he was going to stay until he finished the video, and didn't know how long it was going to take. Luckily mom said she would be able to pick me up and drop my off at home before she went over to her monthly book club meeting.
It was about ten minutes ago, when my mom dropped me off at the house, grabbed her copy of The Help, and walked down the block to meet with her club for the meeting started at four thirty. I was up in my room working on a little bit of homework when my phone dinged.
"Ugh," I groaned loudly. "I hate people! Why can't they just leave me alo-- oh!" After seeing it was a message from Lydia, I stopped my complaining. I didn't think Lydia would be texting me today. Even though we agreed to a sleepover, she abruptly left school early today and I had no idea where she went.
Lydia: I don't know what's going on, and it's starting to freak me out, but can you pick me up? I'm at Scott's house.
Jamie: Scott's house? What are you doing there?
Lydia: At this point I don't even know. But Jackson's here, and I can't deal with him right now. Just come and get me.
Jamie: Yeah, I'm no my way. I'll be in my mom's car though, so just look for it.
I didn't get a reply, but I quickly grabbed a coat, and called my mom asking her if I could used her car to go get Lydia. She told me okay, and to be careful while I drove. I told her thank you, and went for her keys in the mudroom. I didn't know what Lydia was going on about, but I was about to find out.
