Chapter One: 𝘕𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯'𝘴 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴
Pandra slowly opened her eyes and she nuzzled into Loba and Kairi, purring softly. Loba chuckled softly and gently ran her fingers through her hair.
The Huntress purred more, her dragon tail wagging and inadvertently hitting Kairi in the leg.
"Hey," she chuckled as she wrapped her arms around Pandra. She squeaked softly and giggled.
Loba smiled as she got up. "Time to get up, darling," she said. Pandra whined loudly in protest and she nuzzled into Kairi.
The two women chuckled softly.
"C'mon, darling," Kairi smiled, "it's Game Day today." Pandra pouted as she got up.
"Fiiine." She stretched and her wings and tail disappeared into her back. Kairi smiled at her.
After they got ready, they walked out of the bedroom. Pandra could hear the chatter of the other Legends in the lobby. She smiled and ran ahead of Loba and Kairi.
Loba shook her head with amusement as Kairi snickered. Pandra ran into the lobby and nearly tackled Ramya who yelped and laughed in surprise.
"Morning to you too, mate," she grinned. Pandra smiled, "morning. What are we doing?"
"Well we're eating so we can get ready for Game Day," Mary chuckled. Pandra smiled and nodded as she went over to the food table. Her stomach growled and she blushed. Natalie giggled.
Pandra picked up a plate of eggs, pancakes and bacon. She smiled and walked over to the table and sat down next to Renee and Jackson.
She looked around. "I'm guessing Ash and Revenant won't be joining?" She asked.
"Well they don't eat," Anita commented. "Fair point," Pandra replied. She looked at the clock as she continued to eat.
She knew that since Revenant and Ash were Simulacrums, they had no need to eat. But it still didn't feel right. To her, at least.
She hummed softly as she finished eating. She glanced over at Crypto as he sat at a different table, looking at Elliott as he and Ramya talked excitedly about the upcoming game. She hummed softly and the bell started ringing.
"Time to get going, everybody," Jackson said. "We know," Octavio grinned as he got up.
Pandra looked around for a moment as everyone started hurrying out. Chill-bumps formed along her skin but she didn't flinch as she looked at Revenant.
"You coming, skinsuit?" He asked. "Yeah," she replied with a nod. He walked out of the room and Pandra walked after him.
The two walked outside and Wraith looked at them. Primrose smiled as she jogged into the dropship. Once everyone was on board, the ship slowly took to the air.
"So... you can see people's life sources? As in, their souls and such?" Vantage asked as she sat on the couch next to Primrose.
"Yeah but it's a little bit more complicated than that and I don't want to bore you with that stuff," she replied as she continued to read her book.
"But I wanna know!" Vantage whined and Bloodhound looked over at the two. Primrose grumbled softly and she buried her face into her book though she knew that wouldn't be much to get Vantage to drop the subject.
A light tug on the book proved that and she moved it away to see Vantage and Echo staring up at her with puppy dog eyes. Primrose sighed and set her book down.
"Okay, okay," she relented. "Aurora sensing... is like seeing someone's remnant of their souls," she explained, "but you can see the colors and feel the emotions and the warmth or coldness of it too."
Valkyrie plopped down beside them. "You excited?" She asked.
The Skilled Huntress smiled nervously, "a-a little? I'm nervous actually." "You'll do great," Loba said with a gentle pat on her back.
Primrose nodded but her nervousness didn't go away. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath before she exhaled. "Okay... okay, I think I'm good now," she said.
"I have a feeling my squad will win! I can feel it in my bones!" Pathfinder said excitedly. "You don't even have bones, amigo," Octane laughed.
Primrose laughed with him. She always loved this kind of energy before the match started. As if on cue, there was a beeping noise and everyone got up. Primrose held Loba's hand and the Translocating Thief gave a gentle squeeze. The screens lit up. Primrose, Loba and Valkyrie were up first, much to Loba's delight.
Pathfinder, Caustic and Wraith went up next.
Then Seer, Wattson and Rampart.
Then Crypto, Bangalore and Ash.
Then Revenant, Mirage and Lifeline.
Then Bloodhound, Mad Maggie and Fuse.
Then Fade, Rhapsody and Orion.
Then Catalyst, Conduit and Newcastle. And then Ballistic and Alter.
"Wait a sec, where are we exactly?" Primrose asked, looking to Valkyrie.
"We're on World's Edge," she said. "But it's too small for a whole bunch of us," Primrose protested.
"It is not," Octane and Seer said in unison and they looked at each other. Mirage stifled his laughter and opened his mouth to say something but Lifeline kicked him in the shin, eliciting a yelp of pain and he rubbed his knee, glaring at her.
There was another beeping sound and the Legends immediately went down. Primrose looked around for a moment, trying to see where her squad could land.
"We get to the Harvester!" Primrose said to her teammates. They both nodded and flew down to the large building. Once they landed, they each grabbed guns and ammo and frags and other things that they needed. "If you don't mind me asking, what's your finisher?" Valkyrie asked.
Primrose paused and she looked at her. "Well... it's... complicated," she said hesitantly. She wasn't really sure how to explain it herself. She had only used it once.
On people who Hammond Robotics deemed an enemy. Like Revenant, she had been their puppet. And the very thought made her scared of herself. Of what she could do.
She shook her head and looked back at the gun she was holding, "let's just focus on winning."
Valkyrie and Loba looked at each other but didn't say anything else.
Loba ran outside and bullets zipped past her, almost grazing her arm and hip. She quickly ducked down behind a pillar and fired back at Octane.
Valkyrie jumped out of the window before she activated her jet pack and flew up into the air. Primrose cursed and she quickly ran deeper into the Harvester to find more equipment.
If her squad was going to win, she needed to get something much more easier to use.
There was the sound of a few gunshots, followed by a pained groan. "I'm down!" Loba said through the commlink.
Primrose widened her eyes slightly before she leapt through a window and fired at Caustic. The scientist wasn't expecting it so he had to quickly hide behind a few boulders.
Primrose squinted her eyes before she caught sight of Wraith running out of her void. The Interdimensional Skirmisher aimed her gun at her and Primrose quickly yelped as she ducked behind the pillar to avoid the bullets firing and ricocheting off the metal.
"Valkyrie, I need you to take down Caustic and Wraith!" Primrose said through the commlink.
"Roger that," Valkyrie answered and Primrose heard the unmistakable sound of a jet pack flying overhead, quickly accompanied by the sounds of a gun being fired. Silence fell over the area for a few seconds and Primrose hurried over to Loba and took out the syringe. "Hold on, I've got ya," she said as she quickly got her back up.
"Thanks," Loba groaned. Primrose nodded and she heard distant gunfire.
Her fingers turned to claws and she wiped them across the ground, startling Loba as embers flew up into the air. Primrose narrowed her eyes and she saw footsteps in the dirt.
Valkyrie paused, "wait... didn't they have Pathfinder on their squad?" Primrose and Loba snapped their heads to the Winged Avenger and Primrose quickly grabbed Loba and leapt to the right just as a bullet hit Valkyrie in the neck.
Primrose watched with wide eyes as she fell to the ground dead. Loba gritted her teeth and she looked at her, "stay here." She activated her Tactical and teleported out of sight. Primrose looked around nervously. She wasn't fond of being alone. But Valkyrie was down and out. And there were possibly a few other squads that were quite eager to tear each other apart to win.
Primrose growled softly before she hurried away. 'Sorry, Loba. But I'm gonna make sure we win.'
Primrose ran to the Dome and she saw Ash's squad taking down Octane's squad. Octane ran forward and he kicked Ash hard in the face, doing one of his Finishers on her before getting shot down by Bangalore.
Primrose watched them. 'Octane is down, along with the rest of his teammates. So that leaves Bangalore and Crypto. Loba will need to take care of that soldier.'
Primrose readied her gun just as Loba appeared beside her, causing her to jump with a shout and her gun fired and the bullet zipped past Bangalore and the two whirled around to face them. Primrose glared at Loba before the women quickly dodged the onslaught of bullets flying at them.
"I told you to wait for me!" Loba said to Primrose. "We need to win this match," she protested, "get Bangalore. I'll handle Crypto."
Loba only nodded as she did her Tactical again and she disappeared. That would take some time getting used to. Primrose whipped her head to Crypto and she leapt up into the air.
Before the Surveillance Expert could react, the Skilled Huntress tackled him hard and they tumbled across the ground. Primrose kicked him off and he glared at her, holding his stomach.
The two stared at each other hard before Crypto smirked and he pulled out a locket. Primrose froze. That locket. How did he-?
Before she knew it, her own furious roar rang in her ears as she tackled Crypto to the ground. Her fingers turned to claws and she slammed them into his shoulder and chest.
Crypto screamed in pain and he tried to push her off but froze when there was a low growl and he looked right at her. For the first time in his life, he was scared.
Primrose yanked her claws out of his shoulder and chest, blood spraying across his clothes and she flexed her claws and bright purple crystals sprouted up from the ground in one fluid motion and Crypto let out a choked scream as they impaled him. He gasped softly, his breathing becoming ragged.
The crystals went back into the earth and Crypto fell to the ground dead, blood pooling out underneath him.
Primrose stared at him, breathing hard. "One shall fall," she growled and she picked up the locket and put it back around her neck, tears slowly falling down her cheeks. She nearly jumped when a hand touched her shoulder and she whirled around just in time for Loba to pull her into a tight hug. Sobs wracked the Skilled Huntress' body and she buried her face into the Thief's shoulder.
"You are the Apex Champions."
