Chapter Sixty Four
Primadonna

PROM. A NIGHT for teenagers to have fun and let loose. A night for young kids to break away from their stresses and enjoy a night to themselves. Sydney had been dreaming of the perfect prom since she was thirteen. She wanted to find the perfect dress, the perfect shoes, and the perfect man. So far, she got all three. Sydney was ready to rid herself of the stress with karate and dance and have a fun night with her boyfriend and friends.

Sydney stood in front of her large mirror and examined the sapphire blue fabric that hugged her body. It was a satin mermaid style and dipped into a deep V-neck. Her hair and makeup were done, her mom having styled it in an elegant low bun with her front pieces curled. Caroline was a wizard with a makeup brush.

The British woman entered the bedroom and gasped. "Oh Sydney, you look stunning!"

"Thanks mum," Sydney smiled and ran her hands across the fabric again. "It's perfect,"

"The perfect choice," Caroline agreed and smiled at her disgusted through the mirror. "Oh, I remember my first prom. I drank too much of the punch and ended up on the bathroom all night."

Sydney's eyes widened. "Mum!"

Caroline's eyes widened. "Not that that's going to happen to you! You're going to have the the perfect night. Miguel will make sure of it."

Sydney smiled at his name. "I'm so happy we're going together."

"You two remind me of that couple from that musical movie."

"High School Musical?"

"Yeah,  that one!"

Sydney smiled brightly.

"Sydney,  Miguel's here!"  Her father shouted from downstairs.

Sydney suddenly felt nervous.  "He's here.  Oh my God."

Caroline put her hands on her shoulders.  "Okay,  okay,  don't be nervous.  You're going to have the best time.

"Do I look okay?"  The Brit quickly asked.

Caroline grinned.  "You look perfect,  my love.  Don't have a worry in the world."

Sydney's nerves eased and she smiled.  "Thanks,  mum."

From downstairs,  Miguel stood nervously in the Benoist home.  He clutched the blue rose corsage in his hand and adjusted the jacket of his tux in the other.  He could feel himself start to sweat as he waited for Sydney.

"She's coming!"  Caroline shouted from the top of the staircase and came running down the steps.  She gasped.  "Oh,  Miguel you look so handsome!"

Miguel blushed.  "Thank you,  Mrs.  Benoist."

"He insisted on getting the best suit,"  Carmen said and fixed his tie.

"You look great, Miguel." Alexander complimented and patted the boy on the back.

Miguel felt the air leave his lungs when Sydney came walking down the stairs. Bells rang in the air. The light became brighter. Sydney caught his eye and she smiled, making him feel weak in the knees. Miguel touch his hand to his heart and examined her. She truly was the most beautiful girl in the world.

They all praised the girl when she got close to the end of the stairs. Sydney blushed red under Miguel's state. She felt like she was in a movie.

"Oh Sydney, you look so beautiful!" Carmen gushed in excitement.

"Pareces una princesa!" Rosa added and clapped her hands tightly.

"Gracias," Sydney replied with a smile and stood in front of her boyfriend.

Miguel was speechless.  Scanning her with his eyes,  he had no words.  "Wow. . . I don't know what to say."

Sydney smiled.  "I'll take that as a compliment."

"Oh yeah,  of course!"  He said quickly and nodded.  "You look gorgeous."

"This is so sweet!"  Caroline gushed.  "Okay,  picture time!"

The two families scurried around to get ready for pictures and Miguel took Sydney's hand,  leaning her over to the nearest wall.

"Okay,  Sydney and Miguel first!"  Carmen announced and the mothers came forward with their phones.

The first pictures the couple took was of Sydney pressed against Miguel's side with her hand on his chest,  her blue corsage on display.  The second picture was of Sydney kissing Miguel on the cheek with her left leg kicked back and his hand curled around her waist.  They took multiple pictures and then they took family photos.

After what seemed liked an hour of picture taking, Miguel and Sydney said goodbye to their families and walked out of the house to Sydney's car. "So, because it's prom. . ." Sydney started and reached into her clutch. She pulled out her car keys and held them up. "I'll let you drive Rosie."

Miguel's eyes went wide. "Really? I get to drive Rosie?"

The girl smiled again and Miguel took the keys in excitement. Sydney laughed as he ran happily to her car.

Miguel helped Sydney out of the car and the couple they headed down the walkway into the school.  The music was loud and Sydney saw the bright flashing lights when they walked inside.  They smiled at everyone that greeted them and Sydney squealed when she saw Sam and Charlie.  "Sam!"

"Syd!"  Sam squealed back and she ran to hug her friend.  "You look so beautiful!"

"Look at you!  You're so pretty!"

"What's up,  man?"  Charlie greeted Miguel and the two friends did their handshake and hugged.

"Is everyone else here?"  Miguel asked over the loud music.

Sam pointed behind her.  "Demetri and Eli are here.  They're across the room."

Sydney grabbed Miguel's hand and they walked through the crowd of dancing students.  Spitting her friends standing at the tables,  Sydney smiled brightly.  "Hey boys!"

Demetri gasped.  "Well,  look at you fine specimen."

Sydney laughed and pulled him into a hug.  "You guys look so handsome!"

Eli grinned and she circled around the table to hug him.  "Thanks,  Sydney.  You look really great."

"Where's your dates?"  Miguel asked after seeing that they were alone.

Demetri and Eli's faces fell and they glanced at each other.  "Well,  Yasmine's still in Australia and Eli. . . Well,  he's just rolling solo."  Demetri explained.

"Not willingly,"  Eli added with disappointment.

"Aw,  guys,  I'm sorry,"  Sydney said with a frown and glanced up at her boyfriend.  "You can always hang out with us."

"Totally,"  Miguel nodded in agreement.  "Except for the slow dance.  I've been practicing for weeks.

Sydney smiled at him.  "You have?"

The boy nodded proudly.

The DJ started to play Physical by Dua Lipa and Sydney gasped.  "Come on.  Let's dance!"

She grabbed Miguel's hand and dragged him onto the dance floor.  The boy twirled her around and she let out a loud giggle.  Sam and Charlie came and danced by them.  The photographers came around and took pictures of everyone.  Miguel lifted the girl up and spun her around again.  Sydney felt all the stress lift off her shoulders and she was having the best night of her life.

The Brit looked over and saw Yasmine had showed up.  Her eyes widened.  "She's here. . . Dare I say she looks really good?"

Miguel laughed.  "Look at you maturing."

Demetri and Yasmine came onto the dance floor and the group of friends jumped up and down to the music.  After three songs and feeling dizzy from all the jumping around,  Sydney grabbed Miguel's hand and led him off the dance floor.  "I feel like I'm about to collapse."

He chuckled.  "Okay,  let's go get some punch,"

"Do you think it's spiked?"

"Oh absolutely,  but at least we can pregame before the after party."

Sydney poured them two cups of punched that was definitely spiked. She could tell by the smell. "So you never told me about your hooky day with Johnny,"

"Oh yeah.  He's having me practice this move called a flying tornado kick,"  Miguel explained.

She furrowed her brows.  "What for?  The All Valley?"

"He didn't say exactly.  We had,  uh. . . We had a pretty deep talk."

Sydney looked at again with concern.  "What about?"

Miguel was quiet for a minute and then he shook his head.  "Don't worry about it.  This is our night.  No karate talk,  okay?"

She smiled and leaned up to kiss his cheek.  "You're right.  No karate talk."

She took a drink from the punch and nearly spit it out when she saw Tory and Robby walk into prom together. "Oh. My. God."

Miguel's eyes went wide. "Is that—"

"It is."

Tory turned her head to the side and her eyes landed on the couple. She and Robby walked off and Sydney frowned slightly as she watched them go.

Sam was dancing like crazy with Charlie and she suddenly stopped when she too saw Robby and Sam. "What the hell?"

Charlie looked at her confused until he turned around. He frowned. "Is that Tory and Robby?"

"What the hell is she going here?" Sam almost sneered.

"I didn't know they had a thing."

Sam looked up and saw him staring at the pair with an uneased expression. It made her frown slightly. She tugged on his hand. "Come on. My feet are hurting."

She and Charlie walked off the dance floor and went the tables where Sydney and Miguel were with everyone else.

"What?" Sydney shouted at her phone.

It made everyone jump. "What? What's wrong?" Miguel asked immediately.

"I just got told that Logan Wang's after party got cancelled?" The Brit exclaimed.

"Oh yeah, I heard that earlier." Demetri spoke when he and Yasmine walked over to their table.

She looked at him with wide eyes. "And you didn't tell me?"

"You know everybody. I thought you already knew!"

"Well now what are gonna do?" Charlie asked in disappointment.

Sam looked at her friend. "Sydney, your house is huge. Why not have it at yours?"

Sydney scoffed. "Are you bonkers? My father can't stand when I have a study group over, yet alone a whole ass party. That's what Demetri's his favorite. He cleans up his messes."

Demetri's face brightened at her statement.

"This sucks," Sydney groaned. "We pregamed for nothing."

Miguel shrugged. "We can always steal the punch bowl,"

"I already tried." Charlie stated.

Sydney rubbed her tired feet and her eyes scanned the dancing crowd.  She watched Robby and Tory dance and laugh to the music and she found herself frowning again.  There were times that Sydney missed her friendship with Tory.  She had been thinking about it more recently.  There was a part of her that would forever be angry at her for staring the school fight.  It almost ruined so many people's lives including her own.  But she thought about all the moments before then.

Tory got her in ways that some people didn't.  She brought of her wild side.  They had fun together.  Tory trusted her enough to tell her about her family situation.  Sydney sometimes forgot that Tory didn't always know right from wrong.  Sydney tried to understand.  What would she do if Miguel cheated on her?

She would kill him and then kill the girl he cheated on her with.

But Miguel was smarter than that.  He would never cheat in her.  He loved her.  The boy held his hand out.  "Dance with me?"

Sydney smiled back.  "Of course,  my love."

Miguel led her to the middle of the dance floor as a smooth jazz song started to play. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and brought him in close to her. "Have I told you how handsome you look?"

He grinned. "A few dozen times but I like hearing you say it."

"Well, you look handsome all the time." She told him and leaned closer to his face.

They rocked side to side. Miguel squeezed his arms tighter around her waist. "Can I tell you something?"

"Of course you can."

Miguel took a breath. "There's not a lot of things in my life that have been consistent. Y'know, moving to a new school, being bullied, joining karate, and then the school fight happened. . . but the one thing that has always been consistent is you."

Sydney's eyes softened. "Really?"

Miguel nodded. "I know we have our disagreements and our fights, but you have always put me first. Other than my family, I've never had anyone put me first. Thinking of ever losing that hurts me. You're someone I don't want to lose. Ever."

Sydney's face felt fuzzy with tears threatening to spill and she slowly smiled.  "Oh,  my love,  you will never lose me.  I love you way too much to ever give up on us."

Miguel leaned down and kissed her.  In recent events,  he had been thinking deeper about his life;  what he had,  what he didn't have,  and what he wanted.  There were many things Miguel wanted answers to and to figure out about his life but if one thing was for certain,  it was Sydney.  Miguel would never have to worry about not having her.

With the recent news of Cobra Kai season 6 being the last reason,  I've been such a mess.  I started this book not thinking it would blow up and be as popular as it is now.  I've fallen in love with Sydney more and more every single day and her relationship with Miguel.  I'm not ready to say goodbye to them :((
