Chapter 2

A day had not yet passed when Eleazar was called upon outside by Mr Bennet to accompany him to Netherfield. On horseback they travelled the three miles separating them from Netherfield park, the ride a refreshing change of Eleazar's usual walks around the garden and woods surrounding Longbourn.

Once arrived they were warmly greeted by Mr Bingley himself who showed them to his study. The man had a pleasant appearance with strawberry blond hair and vivid blue eyes. His manners were amiable and he spoke with a consistent voice and speed.

The ten minutes they spent together were well spent and once the Mr Bennets were outside once more, did Elezaer have nothing bad to say about the man. Though that could change in a heartbeat, as he had not been blind to the people pleasing mannerism that would appear after every sentence the man spoke.

Depending on the company the man kept, he could be easily swayed to whatever they decide. On his own the man was husband material, but his family wouldn't want him to marry someone with equal standing and capable of giving him a biological heir.

The next week Eleazar shared in his father's amusement as their female relatives tried to persuade them to visit Netherfield Park, and utterly failed in persuading a certain Mr Bennet. The other was far more amenable in providing them some half hearted promises of visiting.

Though Jane was informed of their impromptu visit the moment Eleazar returned home, their sisters and mothers weren't granted the same courtesy.

This all changed one evening later that week when Kitty was trimming a hat, she was suddenly addressed by Mr Bennet.

"I hope Mr Bingley will like it, Kitty."

"We are not in the know what Mr Bingley likes, since we are not to visit."

Their mother was still unhappy about Mr Bennet's unwillingness to cooperate with her wishes and in return her nerves now tormented her body vigorously.

"Do not keep coughing so, Kitty, for heaven's sake! Have a little compassion on my nerves. You tear them to pieces."

"Kitty has no discretion in her coughs, she times them ill."

Eleazar ignored the following exchange of jabs between his parents as Mrs Bennet's nerves got aggravated more with every cough produced by Kitty's tortured longs. Till she was magically healed of any and all ailments, when Mr Bennet casually dropped the fact that he did visit Mr Bingley. Offering Mrs Bennet the opportunity to introduce Mr Bingley to any and all of her friends and acquaintances who needed to be introduced.

"How good it was from you, my dear Mr Bennet! But I knew I should persuade you at last. I was sure you loved your girls too well to neglect such an acquaintance."

Eleazar watched in amusement as his younger sisters and mother danced through the room and proclaimed their undying love and devotion to their father. Mrs Bennet also commented on her unwavering faith in her daughters ability to catch Mr Bingley's eye and for Lydia to ensure a dance with him.

Jane laid her hand on his shoulder in a comforting gesture he immediately reciprocated. Their younger sisters hoped on a love match, that Jane and him didn't either was of little consequence. In the end they still needed a roof over their head.
