Chapter 23: {Finally}
Joel's POV
I woke up to the sound of my alarm at 7. I sat up and woke Moriah. We were so excited to get Brooklyn officially as our daughter. We got up and woke Brooklyn to start getting ready. When we were walking out of the bus, Brooklyn didn't look the greatest.
"Brooklyn, are you okay?"
"Yeah. I'm just not feeling the greatest."
"Maybe it's just a cold. You can rest when we get back." She nodded.
~~~~~~
Time flew by as we adopted our girl. We signed a lot of papers after the whole thing with her dad. He was put in prison for and long time and is not allowed to contact or see Brooklyn ever again. She was beaming after all that. Once we got in the car, Moriah and I wanted to talk out how we were going to handle her coming at this time.
"Brooklyn, I don't know what you want to do, but I think it would be best for you to go home with Moriah. While the band and I finish the rest of the tour, I think it would be best for you and Moriah to spend some time together at home and you can set up your room and get adjusted."
"And then we can go get your things at your home."
Brooklyn's POV
I wasn't really happy about what they just told me. Yeah, it would be nice to spend time with Moriah and everything, but I like being on tour. I think it's fun.
"Will I be able to say good-bye to my friends?" I asked, remembering Brittney, Natalia, and Taylor. I felt bad that I forgot to explain everything to them.
"Of course!" Moriah said as she gave Joel a look and he looked at her. Weird.
"Just remember that we can go visit them pretty often if you want."
"Okay. That sounds good." I said. I didn't like not being with my friends and not being with Joel and Luke.
Joel started, "So how about we enroll you at the local high school? Does that sound good?"
My eyes shot up and my eyes started to fill with water. I didn't want to go back to school. I didn't want to deal with that. I couldn't handle it. I started having flashbacks of all the problems I've had at public school.
"Brooklyn!" I heard Moriah shout. I looked up and she was looking back at me.
"Sorry." I say quietly.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay."
"So does public school sound good?" I didn't know how to respond. I didn't want to disrespect them. By this time, we made it back.
"Brooklyn, I want to talk to you after we get in the bus, okay?" Joel said and I nodded. We got out and were stopped to ask how it went and soon enough, everyone was there hearing how it went.
Moriah's POV
After about 15 minutes of talking, we went to talk to Brooklyn. We sat down and started the talk.
"Brooklyn, what is bothering you so much?" I asked and she just sat there, silent. Then Joel spoke.
"Brooklyn, we are your parents now! You don't have to hold it in. We want to make this a better life for you now." Then she stood up, looking mad.
"I'm bullied and no body cares about me. They all say I'm worth nothing. They all hate me. There's your answer!" She shouted as she ran outside. We started running after her, just to be stopped. By Luke.
"Luke! Why are you stopping us?" Joel said, about to explode to his brother.
"Don't you see? She is hurting. She's having a really rough time and you don't make it any better!!"
"How are we not making it better?" I asked.
"She is having a hard time adjusting and you keep drilling things out of her! You need to give her some time." Joel and I stood there thinking about what Luke just said. He was right. We were doing this all wrong.
"I guess you're right, shortie. Thanks man." Joel said to him.
"No problem, giant Joel." Luke responded.
