Chapter 3
Kai was the first one to wake up from the bunch who was sprawled down in the living room all asleep. They had all stayed to do some last minute talking when Jonathan's parent went to sleep. Even in the basement where it was soundproof, some of them when to get some food and work on homework before the tomorrow school day. They ended up sleeping in the living room to sleep as it was impossible to sleep in the basement where all their work and papers were on the floor. Jonathan had locked it so no one could have access to it before Phil and him cleaned the mass.
Kai struggle to gather her things while she greet Jonathan's father who was cooking pancakes, toast and setting bacon on the side. She returned back to the living room and woke the guys up. Exhaustion painted their faces as they moved to get food while Jonathan, Kenden and her started cleaning their mess in the basement.
"Phil and I will try to swing by the HWQ after the training practice," Jonathan said as he gathered the papers all jumbled in his hand.
"You better organized them all when you put them in the HWQ. I should try to get there soon, it's been a while and I can check on the progress of our CreaGic contact," Kai mused out loud.
Kenden nodded and added as he surveyed the mess growing smaller: "I can get you a lift and either Jimmy or Mehdi can cover us.
"Thought Alex is the family friend," Jonathan argued, stop trying to understand his point of using someone else than Alex.
"That's the problem if other people or even his father don't see him with her, interrogation marks are gonna raise up," Kenden responded setting the piles of papers in the bags and grabbed the cotton handles.
They gathered their school things before Jonathan and Phil dropped them out of the school before their training session. Phil and Jonathan respectively nineteen years old and eighteen years old had completed their high school. They devoted their time to the training session and following the footstep of their family line warriors. They could go to university but decided to hold it off enough that the threat was gone. They made up excuses that they wanted to spend more time learning about their role and the Pack to their parents, old-fashioned shape-shifters, but everyone who into the secrecy knew otherwise.
Kai didn't have any of the other guys in her classes; she was pretty smart for her grade but not enough to go in superior grade, though due to her being missing during her freshmen year, the administration was hesitant to let her follow her triplet brothers. Kai prove to them that she could do it! Plus, it didn't interest her to be in the grade of her older brothers. No way. She saw how it was with Kylan and Keagan, her triplet brothers, she suffered from their endless teasing and their own group of friends that were not her friends.
By the reason of the incident two years ago, she didn't do well with girls because they were annoying and had the intellectual fixated on themselves which was annoyed Kai for hell. She didn't know much the guys other than being with her brothers and occasionally being nice and polite to her because she was the little sisters of their friends (Kylan and Keagen). Or people were nice and wanted to be her friends because of her status of the bloodline of being the Beta's daughter of the MoonLightning Pack. Her father was the Beta which did sometimes give advantage to not be a mess with but the disadvantage to be taking like someone who could be used. Kai did not like being used, and it sucked to be used.
The only thing, she could do was to concentrate on her classes and maybe talk with the older boys like Matt, Kenden, Marco, Addryen, Ralph and others. As she entered high school and the others went to see their friends in separate ways for the sake of the high school society to not been seen as mixing up with the younger ones. The only exceptions were family members or other exceptions you just knew, they were exceptions to not make fun. She walked to her locker mentally wondering how long it was before Keagen or Kylan would come to find her and berated her like they did when she didn't show up at home for the night. It was at first annoying because they rarely talk but it felt nice that her older brothers, even if they were her triplets brothers, were not far away from her and always try to keep an eye on her.
"Hey sis," Kylan exclaimed as he approached her at her locker. Kai just closed it and was ready to go to her first class. She looked to him, the black hair same as her shaped like porcupine spines, she called it as it was sharp hair on his head, never smooth ever since he got that haircut two years ago. "You missed the news about Greg. You put mom to worry because she had forgotten that you weren't going to be there. Jamal was so embarrassed yesterday when he called out our name; he hated it when you missed it..." he added chuckling at reminiscing yesterday and hugging her even if she was holding her manual of science in her arms.
"Because we are family and we shouldn't embarrass him like that because he is an instructor. I know but I know he would push me harder anyway when I come back. This afternoon would be worse, I know he will make me regret."
"You bet lil sis but it's not against you, he just can't do any favouritism during a training session."
"I hoped he pairs me with one of the nice guys," Kai wondered as Kylan finally decided to release her. Kylan growly lowly, the sound rumbling from his chest.Only for a second later, a pair of arms grabbed her waist to hug her.
"I miss you!" Keagen blurted out loudly trying to scare her off. Kai just smiled at him trying; she could smell his familiar family scent and wasn't to scare of him trying to hurt her.
"I was gone for the night and it's not like you missed me that much, you are always hanging out with the other triplet, Ke," Kai declared using Keagen's nickname 'Ke' before weakly punching him on the chest with her left fist," and with all your friends always doing afterschool sport or training session. You can't miss me that much."
Keagen didn't reply and just gave a glance to Kylan to say something. Keagen got so worried and didn't want to tell their sister, the bad news that their parents told them. It could wait.
"We should try to hang out the tree of us before Greg comes back home and we hang out all the siblings," Kylan said suddenly after the short pause letting the background noise of students taking over.
"We are going to be late at our first class, a good thing, I came early, let's go, lil bros," Kai replied, hearing Kylan but just didn't want to answer and time was flying, and she was not someone who was going to be late at a class.
"You mean big bros, lil sis," Keagen corrected her and fussing with her hair as he gave a small laugh because she wanted so bad to be the older at some point but it would never happen, and it was just great like that.
They walked to their science class, which was filled with students of their grade but from the four Packs that were sharing the school mixing the werewolves from different Packs. It was letting them create multiple bonds and formed a deep link between each other that could help them later on. It helped the future Alphas, and Beta's to recognize who was from which Pack, the warriors to exchange on their knowledge and a big pool for people to try to find their mate. It permitted to help their social skills to be developed and a better understanding of the community and shared with other werewolves. In the case of the MoonLightning Pack, they were the most traditional as of the four Packs in the school, and the diversity was helping the next generation to work it out their differences and have an open mind about their Pack's culture and the other Pack's ways of doing things. Additionally, the future Beta, Kai's brother Greg, had finished his schooling and so did Sherman, the future Alpha of the pack. They haven't found their mate in the school nor within the Packs and were currently learning under other Alphas and travelling around to maybe found their mate.
The other Packs of future Alphas who were still schooling in their senior year were Jimmy, Alex, and Mehdi. They haven't been taking more and more responsibilities and were alternating on finishing their high school, find a college and their duties to their Packs. Kai was more friendly with Alex from ShootingLight, as he was also a family friend through his future Beta being her cousin Cristian on the paternal side. Still, the future Alphas Jimmy from StarLight and Medhi from MeteorLight were much more friendly and had spent time with her more than her own future Alpha, Sherman, the son of Rowan Woody and Karen Woody.

At the end of the school day, Kai was mandatory to participate in the training session with Kylan and Keagen in which Jamal was the instructor today. As they stood up in a mass of group from her age and waited for further instructions. Jamal stood six - five feet in front of them, arms crossed over his chest, dark brown hair all messy by the previous classes of training, a grey sleeveless shirt with the symbol and MoonLightning written and a pair of sport shorts, the usual uniform. He didn't look that sweaty, but Kai knew better, and since she missed training yesterday as some others, she was not thrilled on the future punishment.
"Well, glad that you could make it today, seem like some of you forgot that you had a training session with me. "Jamal narrow his eyebrows looking at the missing students yesterday some have made unpleasant comments. "For those who forgot, I know it's your first time, but the punishment still stands, since you were not there learning the new techniques, you will fight with someone of my choice that was there to test your skill. As always you evaluate, but this time I won't correct your standing and techniques. I'll merrily take notes, yesterday was the practice," Jamal letting his eyes wandered on the group, staying on Kai's before moving out to take a clipboard and a pen. "That being said some of you who were there won't participate on that first part of the training class of today. There's a second part which consists of preparation for the practical test on Saturday. "
Jamal couldn't play favourites and had paired off with Ji, an arrogant guy that just wanted to have intercourse with her. She wrinkled her nose in disgust if her brothers knew, well why not play with the fire a bit like a little payback for Jamal. She taunts him with a bet.
"I win you leave me the hell alone and stop asking to sleep with me."
He asked cockily: "And if I win?"
"You don't get beat up by my brothers or my cousins," she simply said as she took a straight stand facing him looking straight in his eyes.
"I don't get to have a say on my win, but alright you got yourself a deal," Ji was facing Jamal before Kai's brother move to be able to view both of them, he had pissed off the instructor.
Kai saw a figure leaned on the wall, arms crossed over his chest like most participants in the class as a training session was never that much fun. She frowned slightly still keeping at the corner of right eyes a visual on Ji to figure who the hell was in the training class. Alex, the future Alpha of ShootingLight, he had frowned his black eyebrows, and his lips were tightly shut waiting for something. He was watching her; the eyes crossed each other peripheral before Kai refocused on the future combat.
"Go," Jamal mentioned seeing the glanced exchange between future Alpha Alex and his sister, he made no comment but filed the information in his mind and to question her later at home far from the lurking eyes who had no mercy on her. He knew how, 'the boys, her brothers' reputation affected her a lot as positively and as negatively. Like she had to live up to this reputation.
Kai breathed and waited patiently as Ji started approached her, she was waiting for him to make the first move. He tried to slam his fist directly on her stomach, but she grabbed as quick as she could with struggle his arms trying to keep a distance.
"Lesson number one, never underestimate your opponent; that's the worse mistake you could do!" Kai used her strength and ducked her head to push him trying to make him lose balance before quickly switching on his wrist pulling on it. He didn't budge.
"Really, that's all you got. That's sad."
She used Ji standing stance with his legs slightly apart before propelling herself on him giving him a quick on the chest as she let him go and took a rolling-bracing position as she hit the floor. She stood up and turned around seeing him laying there because her kicks were strong.
"Lesson number two, you need to know the anatomy of a werewolf, a shape-shifter or human form male and female."
"Lesson number three, you use any combat techniques or medical knowledge to your advantage and use their advantages for you like him, and his height makes it so it's your opponent weakness," as she used different point pressure to immobilize him on the ground putting her weight on his stomach just waiting for him to flip her or push her away on the mat.
"Lesson number four, you never underestimate your opponent when they are down they can be faking it," as Ji growled in frustration but yelp as she kicked him solidly in the balls making him scream in a high pitch groaning as he tried to curl on himself.
Kai kept explaining long and clear: "Lesson number five, never believe that your opponent came alone, some is always watching before taking Alex arm, lowered her own body to make him fly over her head and land on the mat. She hovered him as he was trying to stand up and straddle him to have a better position on him to use the pressure of her lighter weight on him. Alex flipped them up; he was hovering on her looking at her beautiful face as Jamal was screaming:
" Keagen, Kylan remove Ji from the mat; Alpha Alex, "he yelled, cutting the word "future" easier than using the word every time to design him' "ENOUGH!"
Jamal did not like that a boy more or less one from the Alpha was touching his sister more than fighting against her. (Beta and Alpha genetics make them more dominant and their hormones skyrocketed than any rank in a Pack)None of them listened to Jamal as they both seek for dominance, Kai was able to flip them again, so she was on top of him, in her out of breathing voice:
"Lesson number six, if you know your opponent because of basic knowledge or you heard about him or her or of your connections use it to your advantage, for example, he's an Alpha so you should submit to avoid getting killed." As Alex pushed her off as she landed on her butt as he stood up thinking about his next move. While she pushed herself off the mat to stand with a wince and continued her explanation," but if you are.. stubborn like me you fight and he's a male Alpha but still six feets something whose his massive by the shoulder and he used his strength in his legs to have an advantage to me. Plus he's young so use his uncontrollable desire of sexuality against him because young male werewolf unless tragic or will power can defy this, any constitution, sane and healthy would" as she took to make an impulsive dash to force him to fall on the mat and lingered her lips on his lips, making his eyes darken of desired before choosing to lightly kiss him on the cheek.
"Good job, Kai," he whispered amused by the trick that he couldn't fight it with her.
As they both helped each other to stand up while the rest of the group was having their jaw-dropping, gaping at the spectacle, she winced, both boys had no mercy on her and damm it hurt. She would heal a few minutes because of the fast healing abilities as a shape-shifter werewolf, it still hurt thought.
Ji really deserved it, she hoped, he would leave her alone now. He was on the side with Kylan and Keagen, she wondered if Jamal had done that purposely so they could give him a piece of their minds while they bandaged him and checked for a concussion. She instinctively went rigid by the new scent that was spreading through the training room and her instincts telling him that he was there, making her shivered. Someone was waiting for something, but his applause and his arrival just confirmed what she believed. Kai stiffened even more next to Alex, slowly stepping near him, ready to slide behind hiding behind him whose tall frame of six-feet-seven was twisting to shield her halfway as he glanced to Alpha Rowan, analyzing the situation
"Wow," Alpha Rowan said clapping loudly with the huge smile showing all his quaver teeth half white, half yellow spots.
"Thanks, future Alpha Alex for helping out!"
"Great job Kai," Alpha Rowan Woody praised as he glanced at her his eyes was not meeting what he was really saying making Kai and any members of the Resistance wary of him." I'm not surprised you got this in your blood teaching, and they're trained you well your brothers... well I best go and future Alpha Alex too."
Jamal cleared his voice, he was itching to hug her and checked on her for any deep scratches or bruises.
"I didn't know, you would be there, Alpha Rowan, to what we own your presence?" he formally said in a polite voice.
"Well, I was checking for the second part, I'm really excited by what the instructors from the four Packs have been able to realized as evaluative exercise."
"Yes, I was going to explain it, well like you heard from Alpha Rowan, we will concentrate on this week on the theory part of using the forest as an element to be your advantage. It will be a theoretical but also practical training, we are currently running late so please follow the other instructors of MoonLightning and I will meet us there. The other werewolves from ShootingLight, MeteorLight and StarLight must be waiting."
"They are, Jamal, go ahead, I'll be closing the group and will walk with Kai, she didn't have any time to let the healing process happen."
"Thanks, Alex," Jamal let it slip the title as he was grateful for their friend family to take care as he was on duty.
They walked off the training compound, Alex placing occasionally his right hand on her back but removing as quickly as he placed it there. The young werewolves stepped around the already forming mass, Kai never saw Alex glancing with concern before stepping next to Mehdi and Jimmy as representant of their respective Pack. thought her bond with the five guys were sensing they were near in the forest, staring. She could only imagine them is crossing their arms, looking at the bunch frowning alternating their glances to the group to the mentors there and anyone hat they could see in their peripheral, in far range so no one could recognize their scent but straining their ears to hear what was being said down at the bottom of the forest.
"So you will be in a team of eight people, we try to balance, at least one female per group and two people from each Pack as much as possible." Jamal declared looking at the mass of young werewolves regroup all together.
"Now that being said you are to work in a team, to use your strengths and your weakness to survive. The goal is during twenty-four hours you do not get caught by our team of trackers composed of werewolves from all four packs and the top trackers, so you get used to what happens when you get chased, and you need to survive and rely on other people from different packs. Those who are caught had to be physically brought back down by our team of trackers. Today its a test to get used but on Saturday you will have twenty-seven hours to survive with three hours of starting. " Oliver explained and saying werewolves raising their hands to ask questions, "Please note that we are aware some have a device to protect them for their scent and their openly GPS them. The GPS will stay, but the jewelry to cover the smell of you will be disposed of safely before the game. Do not worry, your parents will be the ones holding onto them, and nothing will happen outside this exercise, you will be protected and always watch with cameras and everything so if something terrible happens, you won't get killed, but you may have a few wounds and bruises not deep. That being said, communication is a must and Saturday will be an evaluation of our progress we all your teams of instructors will be evaluated individually and in a group, together like a judging panel.
"Just a first aid kit and a few knives, daggers and whatever possible you can smuggle, but no jewelry or guns, and no poison that could kill. A sedative is acceptable only As much as its an evaluation, and every team is petty against each other, we are not looking for death nor over testosterone competition," a female instructor from MeteorLight Pack added to the list of instruction. " A reminder would be provided in an email and before the evaluation on Saturday."
"You are as good as your weakest link, you do not reject your weakest link, and our female here are firm. this cohort is stronger than the previous cohort, so please do not underestimate them," a male instructor from StarLight Pack was reminding them.
"Today, you will meet your partners for the practices and the theoretical classes for the weeks. You will meet here for your next training session and have the right to came across the MoonLight Pack territory as an agreement for the assignment meaning even after or before the classes to talk about the assignment," Alex explained as he had moved to take position next to the other instructors. " We don't expect you to be perfect but in coordinated with the other Packs, we hope you learn a lot from the exercises and it helps you to rely on people and your self."
She was pair Keagen, she knew her brothers had put their noise to make sure she was with one of her brothers, ever since her return. They were able to influence to have one of her triplets with her, then they were pair with six other males all from different ethnicities and at least six foot, it was a common thing the average of a North America werewolf make was six foot, the werewolf female five-six or seven feet tall, in North America.
