blushing
chapter fifteen ;; blushing
jeongguk perspective
°☆.。.:*・°☆
"Hey, Jeongguk, Seokjin called me earlier and asked if you'd want to go out with us." Taehyung speaks from his end of the line. It was currently Sunday morning and I had cherry chapstick on, unintentionally giving my lips a pinkish tint and semi-glossy appearance. It tasted good though, and it was an excuse to wear it even though I didn't need to.
I pull my lips together into a line, tasting the chemical yet sweet taste of something that's supposed to resemble cherries but doesn't work out so well. I'd still eat it if it were a fruit though, "I- I don't know..."
"Oh c'mon," Taehyung whines, and I can imagine his face screwing up in annoyance, "it'll be fun." He smiles in a persuading tone.
"What's in it for me?" My eyebrows raise even though Taehyung can't see. I can only hope that he can read me through the phone like I can with him.
"Ice cream."
"Okay, I'll go." A sigh passed my lips, praying that Taehyung didn't here it.
I don't want him to see me as a party-pooper, no matter how lame that sounds. Personally, going out with people is too much work for my liking, and no, I'm not lazy, it just physically drained me of all willpower. The whole idea practically made the word 'INTROVERTED' tattooed onto my forehead. My skin crawls with the thought of hanging around people I don't know.
Granted, I have Taehyung with me, but he'll end up getting swept away by the others, leaving me alone. Surely Seokjin may pay some attention and try to keep me company while Taehyung turns into a different person, his true self. It was evident that I changed Taehyung and held him down. He was usually loud and rambunctious, and I needed to accept that, no matter how hard it was for me to.
"Good, I'll come inside now."
"What?" I loudly hiss and jump out of my bundle of comforter. My large boxers drop at my upper-mid thigh, and my baggy white shirt ends at the top of my thighs, "Tae, I'm not even dressed." Running over to the large window in the front of my home, I see Taehyung leaning against the side of his car, legs crossed and mischievous smirk evident. The sight chilled me to the bone.
Taehyung laughs, and I watch his head shake out of the clear and not-so-well-cleaned window. There were multiple smudges originating from my fingertips due to nights of gazing up at the sky in wonderment and dumbly trying to count every star I saw. The only problem was that I didn't realize the earth was rotating at 1,600 kilometers per hour, "Don't get worked up about it, you're just a boy." I'm just a boy sticks in my ears, "I'll just stay downstairs until you come down, and I already know that you're front door is unlocked as always, so there's no need to come see me at all."
"Fine...I'll be down in a little." I mumble into the receiver and hang up, quickly rushing into the bathroom to brush my teeth and fix my bird's nest for hair. It made me wonder what nightmare I'd had at night to cause the knots.
Taehyung probably knows that I have bad dreams; he's seen me sleep, meaning that he's seen me toss and turn in fear of a force that I myself didn't even know about after I woke up.
I hear the front door opening, followed by footsteps walking down the hallway that leads into the small living room. All I had was two whir love seats that weren't very comfortable at all. It's not like I ever had multiple guests over, so I found it pointless to buy good furniture that would never be used. My dad said that he'd pay for most of the expenses, but I want nothing to do with him; although I have to take his money because if I didn't, I'd be ultimately homeless...or dead.
The taste of mint fills my mouth in a foamy froth, covering my teeth to somehow make them brighter. It was science, meaning that it was confusing. I loved science at times, especially when we learn about space, but other than that, it's a bunch of mumbo-jumbo.
Plastic fibers run through my knotted and black hair with struggle, patting it down only a little because I sometimes enjoyed the natural and smooth edges it offered on good days. After a good minute of fingers helplessly clawing through smooth hair and patting my head for the nth time, I finally decide that my appearance wasn't half bad.
Upon my action of opening the bathroom door up again, my eyes are met with Taehyung's brown ones, startling me while I yelp and jump back behind the door to hide myself, still in only boxers and a shirt. His eyes light up in amusement at seeing my reaction face a warmed hue, probably reaching my ears. I've never been exposed this much before to anyone, especially a boy who wouldn't stop staring at me, "What are you doing up here?" My voice finally squeaks out.
"To use the bathroom, of course." He smiles.
"There's a bathroom downstairs." I drown with an unamused stare.
"It's out of soap."
"There's soap in the cabinet under the sink."
"How was I supposed to know that?" He asks in disbelief, "I'm not the one who lives here."
"Oh...right," I look down at the laminated bathroom floor, finally stepping out from behind the door, quickly rushing out of the way and into my room. His gaze was easily felt on my back, but I didn't dare to look back at him or even think about looking anywhere else but the floor until firmly closing my bedroom door shut.
I don't think I've ever gotten dressed so quickly, throwing on whatever I could find first. It was like a timed competition, or it was just paranoia that Taehyung would see me in the process of putting on my hoodie. It was supposed to be cold today, and I didn't know how long we were gonna stay out, although I can guess that it'll be for a while. The cold was alright, I guess, but being in it for a long period of time is my way of slowly dying.
"Hello." Taehyung greets once I finally step down the stairs that are up against the wall, still holding onto the banister once he speaks. I don't respond but instead yawn while rubbing one of my eyes with the back of my hand, "Are you tired?" He asks, and I nod, "Did I wake you up when I called you?" I shake my head, and Taehyung nods, "This is weird, I can actually see the shape of your legs through your skinny jeans." He comments while looking me up and down, subconsciously making myself curl up a bit. I had finally decided to not where sweatpants for once, and I was kind of regretting the decision, "Come on, the guys are waiting for us at the park."
"We're going to the park?" I ask, confused.
"Why wouldn't we go to the park?" Taehyung questions while we begin to walk over towards the front door that was- take a wild guess -painted white. He looks down at me, awaiting an answer, except it's caught in my throat. His eyes lock with mine, and I suddenly feel my knees going weak at the thought of him actually staring at me the way he is. It's intent and pungent, his eyes trained on me and me only, specifically my own face. A dear in headlights, that's what I become under his gaze.
"I- I- I don't kn-know." My voice finally decides to stutter out in a mess of syllables. Of course, I couldn't talk normally right now. Stuttering has always been a small battle for me, and I was undeniably grateful that mine wasn't nearly as bad as some, even though it could be a total bitch sometimes- one that I wanted to strangle. Either my brain was too excited and my words couldn't catch up, or I was too scared and my words were too scared to catch up.
But Taehyung doesn't make any snarky comments. He doesn't give me a weird look or mimic my mistake; he only smiles down at me, and my face instantly turns red with heat. It spreads all across my face, reaching the tips of my ears and surely down to my toes this time.
A chuckle emits from his lips as he continues to stare down at me, grabbing my hand from my side out of nowhere and intertwining our fingers. It surely doesn't help my blushing face as I can feel my cheeks getting warmer and warmer by the second, "We're driving my car." Taehyung tells me while he drags me out of the front door, leaving my shaky hand to close it behind us.
