Chapter 4

"This is a hot car!", Taehyung exclaimed. Jeon was side eyeing him while he was keeping track of the traffic. The young man's eyes were glowing as he took in the interior of the Maserati. He probably had never had the chance to sit in such a luxurious car before, Jeon thought. Jeon switched from the third gear to the fourth, not without making the car scream in protest. He still was not used to the manual gear. "It has an ugly temper", he replied, still eying his handsome but curious passenger. When he had asked for the directions, he had not expected for the blond man to climb inside his car and to guide him personally back to Beverly Hills. But here he was.

"Yours?", Tae asked sneeringly as Jeon was fighting once more with the gear.

"Obviously not", the dark-haired man replied dryly.

"You stole it?", Tae immediately blurted out. He seemed suddenly more interested in Jeon than the car.

On the street the traffic light turned from green to red and Jeon had to make a brisk halt. When the car was no longer moving, he risked turning around, facing the young man for the first time since he had gotten into the car with him. "Not exactly", he answered. A smug smile appeared on his lips as he thought back on how he had "stolen" the car from poor pleading Phil.

"What's your name?", Jeon inquired this time. His eyes were taking in Tae's features: his curly blond hair, his big eyes, his thin nose, and plump red lips. For a man he truly looked beautiful. Never had he imagined that one day he might consider a man to be beautiful. Until now he had been dating women; a lot of women. It never was something serious and their relationship never went on for more than four months. It was his wish to stay free and it also came with the job. He loved being accompanied by beautiful women. Nevertheless, unlike other men in the business, he never treated them badly. On the contrary, he made them feel unique and cherished them for the short time they were together.

The question had sparked Tae's interest in Jeon even more. "Who do you want me to be?", he asked Jeon with a husky voice as he looked straight at him. Jeon noticed that the boy's lips were slightly wet; he must have licked them, because the streetlight reflected in them and made them shine even more.

Jeon looked at him, raising an eyebrow in order to urge him to stop fooling around. But at the same time, he could not hide a smile that had formed on the corner of his lips. Tae's question had amused him.

"Vi", Tae gave in; Jeon's smile had made him weak, "My name is Vi". Jeon repeated his name in a low voice, when a series of klaxons made him turn back to the street. Unnoticed, the traffic light had passed from red to green. With a weird noise, Jeon started the engine again and off they were.

They rolled down the streets and with every passing minute they neared Beverly Hills. Jeon had fallen quiet. Tae kept on guiding him and finally asked him at which hotel he was staying. "It's the Grand Hotel", Jeon replied. "I see...", Tae said, "It's down the block and then around the corner. We are nearly there".

Jeon kept quiet. He wanted to reveal as less as possible from himself to the young man. Since nobody was driving on the street, he tried to speed up a little. But there was no "speed up a little" with a Maserati; they raced down the street. "Wow. This baby must be an MC20. So, if I am right, it must be a 620PS mid‑engined supercar!".

"What?", Jeon asked incredulous.

"I said it must be a 620PS mid-...", Tae repeated but Jeon cut him off.

"I heard you. But how comes you know so much about cars?", Jeon asked him.

"How comes you know so little about cars?", Tae replied a little vexed but then he explained. "I grew up in Georgia in a family with mechanics. My father and my uncle both were fascinated by cars. It was all they ever talked about. And as I grew up, they passed on some of their knowledge, it would seem."

As Tae got lost in the memory, he grew more distant and quieter for a moment. But then the role he was playing came back to mind and he put up is perfect mask again. "So why do you drive this car without knowing anything about it?", he asked Jeon again, this time in a gentle tone of voice.

"My first car was a limousine", Jeon swallowed hard as he told this truth. This had to be explanation enough and Tae did not question him any further.

But then Jeon had to change gears again and the car made an awful noise. "You are not shifting the gears correctly", Tae observed kinda amused.

"Have you ever driven something like this?", Jeon asked. The smile disappeared instantly from Tae's face.

"No... of course not. How should I?", he muttered.

"Well you will drive it now", Jeon told him as he was halting on the right side of the street.

Incredulously, Tae looked at him, his eyes bigger than ever. He could not believe what Jeon had just told him. He should drive the Maserati? This must be a joke. He kept on looking at Jeon, waiting for him to burst into laughter and mock him for the simple thought of ever being able to drive such an expensive car. But the laughter never came. Instead, Jeon opened the door and moved towards Tae's side of the car. Then he opened the passenger's door and urged Tae to get out. "I am serious. Show me how to make it work".

"Fasten your seatbelts!", Tae blurted out all happy, "I am gonna take you to the ride of your life! I will show you what this baby can do! Are you ready?"

"I am ready", Jeon replied as he fastened the seatbelt and got comfortable.

"Alright! Then let's go!", Tae laughed.

And indeed, the young man did show Jeon how to ride the car. He switched the gears smoothly and the car stopped make weird noises as they raced down the streets of Beverly Hill. Jeon was staring at him in awe. This boy truly was an unexpected encounter.

During the whole time of the drive, Tae explained to Jeon how to use the pedals of the car correctly in order not to make the engine stutter or break the gear. After a while Jeon stopped listening to him. Instead, he lost himself staring at the man, when out of the blue a question passed his mind.

"How many dollars do you make a night?", he asked curiously.

Tae who had until now been talking about the car, looked at him in surprise. Nevertheless, did he reply. "We make at least 100 dollars". Since Jeon kept looking at him, Tae went on with the explanation, "100 dollars an hour".

This time it was Jeon who was surprised. "100 dollars an hour?", he repeated astounded. "You make 100 dollars an hour and you have to wear an old bag like this?", Jeon asked, "You must be joking!".

"I never joke about money!", Tae only said.

"100 dollars an hour", Jeon repeated once more "... Pretty stiff". At the word stiff, Tae took one hand from the wheel and put it on Jeon's pants. Through the fabric he was touching his groin.

"Not really stiff... but it has got potential", he flirted with Jeon. Then he pulled his hand away and put it back on the wheel. Jeon did only glance at him, but a smile was still playing around the corner of his mouth.
