Xendrix and Daniel

"Do you think that she'll get better?" Xendrix asked with a cup of hot chocolate in his hands.

Daniel sighed, leaning against his chair, sighing tiredly, he shrugged.

"I don't know, Xen. I just don't know how to help her."

Xendrix let out a tired sigh of his own. "Well I think she's doing great than most people. She's eating well, she's talking..." He trailed off, waiting for his brother to reply back.

"But what about how she feels?" Daniel asks, giving him a pointed look. "You can't just say that she's doing fine just because she's doing things that you consider normal, Xen."

"I know." Xendrix said as he took a sit across his brother. "I know that. I know that she's keeping it all in. I can see it, Dan. It's like a switch. One thing she's fine then after a while later, she'll be the opposite of fine!"

Daniel looked at his brother for a moment and thought that his brother is changing.

Was that even possible?

Before, Xendrix hated Samantha like she's a mosquito biting on his skin. Daniel also disliked her but Xendrix was somehow on a different level of dislike. Daniel wouldn't say it out loud but the reason why Xendrix was so mad at Sam before was because he's mad that Sam gets to be alive and Lydia's deeply buried in a grave.

It's unfair to Samantha, they know that now. They shouldn't blame Sam for any of Lydia's death but can you really blame them?

They lost a sister.

But now, Xendrix's acting as if this is a grave problem, which it is, but what he meant to say is that Xendrix is now the most worried one out of the two of them.

Almost like as if he's... panicking.

"Do you think that we should get her a therapist?" Xendrix suggested with worry in his tone.

Daniel looked at his brother in concern. "I've been thinking about that. I know that she needs one. I just don't want her to look like she's a goner, Xen. That's all I want. So, if she needs a therapist then we'll get her a therapist."

"The kid's got trust issues." Xendrix commented, sipping on his chocolate drink with grace.

Daniel rolled his eyes. "Who wouldn't get trust issues after that, Xendrix?"

Xendrix nodded, looking at his chocolate drink with a thoughtful look, as if he's lost in his own thoughts.

After a while, he spoke again. "You're aware that our sister has done that to Sam, right?"

Daniel was surprised that Xendrix have asked that but he knows why he's got the urge to ask it. The one who gave Sam a traumatizing childhood memories was their sister. Their sister who they thought was nice and sweet.

Who wouldn't be surprised? Lydia was seen as the sweetest angel and it's hard to believe that she did that. She turned into a devil in the end though.

They should've been careful with her.
They should've watched Lydia more closely.

The devil was once an angel, after all.

"Yeah." Xendrix took a sip from his cup again and smiled at him. "Do you remember?"

Daniel raised a brow. "Remember what?"

"That I used to look like a 'goner' too?" He said, looking somewhat sad and nostalgic.

He lost his twin sister. No matter what Lydia did, Xendrix lost a sister. It's not that Xendrix was taking Lydia's side. Of course he's mad at what she did. Furious even.  Because what she did was wrong. It's so very wrong but she's gone now. She's dead.

The pain's still there but it's just numb now, as if it's slowly fading away.

He couldn't help but feel like he failed as her twin though. If he was there to watch over her then maybe he would've saved Lydia from their parents. From turning into some psycho.

Maybe he could've even saved Samantha as well.

And he failed at that.

He failed as he twin, as a brother and he failed as cousin to Sam.

Daniel chuckled. "You were an asshole. You threw everything that I cooked and screamed at me, you were a mess. How an ungrateful brat you were."

Xendrix laughed. "I said I was sorry."

"Sorry my ass." Daniel said with a grumble.

Xendrix chuckled and looked at his cup. A small smile painted on his face.

"You were there for me." It wasn't a question. It was a statement and a comfortable silence fell down upon them as Daniel smiled at his brother.

His little brother.

His youngest now.

"Someone's got to look after you, kiddo." Daniel said and Xendrix chuckled.

"I hope Sam's got that kind of support." He exclaimed tiredly, stifling a yawn.

"Yeah." Daniel smiled sadly, remembering how Sam's brothers were being too insensitive to her. Daniel and Xendrix made a mistake before with Lydia and they don't want Sam's brothers to make that kind of mistake as well.

Samantha needs someone. She needs her family more than she's willing to admit it right now. But they weren't there to support her.

They weren't there for her.

They kept secrets from her. They left her in the dark and do you know what that feels like?

And the worst of all, they betrayed her.

Daniel definitely do not want to know what's the feeling of betrayal.

Daniel nodded. "Us."

"What?" Xendrix asked, blinking at him in confusion. "What do you mean us?"

"What I meant to say is that we'll be there to support her." Daniel said. "We'll be there for her."

"But how about her brothers? Her parents?" Xendrix sipped on his drink again. "We've done so many wrong things to her too, Dan. What if she thinks that we're like her brothers?"

"But we're here." He said as if that explains everything. "And they're not. Look, if we wait for her brothers to save the day then she's going to crash at any minute. I'm not saying that we should replace her family but I just want her to know that she's not alone. That we can prove that we're not going to be like before. That we're not going to be like her brothers or her parents. I just feel so guilty about what I've done, Xen. I feel like I just need to help her."

"I know the feeling." Xendrix said. "We'll help her. I swear."

"Me too!"

The two jumped in surprise when they heard the new voice.

Aunt Josephine walked in with her arms crossed, looking upset. "Don't leave me behind, boys"

"Sorry, Aunt Josephine." Xendrix gave her a lazy grin.

She sighed. "Danny's right. The kid's down and we gotta make her feel loved and not neglected. Okay, soldiers?"

"Ma'am yes ma'am." Daniel said, mocking a salute.

"Right." Josephine smiled then she glared at the two. "And by the way, what're you doing up in bed at this hour?"

"Couldn't sleep." The two said in unison.

Josephine snorted and sat next to Xendrix. "Okay, team."

"You're not going up to sleep?" Xendrix said in amusement and their aunt rolled her eyes.

"No, genius. I'm staying here with you two."

"Why?" Daniel asks and Josephine shrugged.

"Couldn't sleep." Josephine said, shrugging. She points at the two of them with a lopsided smile on her face. "Like you two."

"That's unusual." Daniel snorted with a wicked smirk on his face. "You usually love to sleep, Aunt Josephine. You snore and talk in your sleep."

Josephine looked offended and glared at him. "I definitely do not snore and talk in my sleep. How offending, young man. Better watch your tongue or else I'll cut it off."

"I bet that Sam's not sleeping right now." Xendrix mumbled to himself and Josephine sadly hummed in agreement.

"Of course she isn't. That girl's having a hard time sleeping. You two know that." Josephine sighed.

She knows that.

"So, Daniel, go get her right now. Let's get some warm choco drinks, some big, warm, comfy blankets, a big bowl of popcorn for us to munch on while we watch some Netflix, sounds good?"

Xendrix leaned towards her and kissed her cheek. "You're the best, Aunt Josephine."

Daniel nodded with a small smile plastered on his lips. "I agree."

Josephine clapped her hands. "No time for compliments. Chop chop boys, our little baby's wide awake."

"Ay yay ma'am." The two said.
