Arrival

Song for this chapter is Mount Everest by Labrinth.

"We will be arriving at the school in 20 minutes everyone! Please gather your belongings together and prepare to leave the train" A man shouted as he walked down the carriage isle, knocking on compartment doors as he went.

"Finally. I swear we've been stuck on this bloody train for hours" Louis sighed in relief. His legs were cramping from the small space and his bum hurt from sitting down for so long. He was glad he could finally stretch his legs.

"I know. I'm excited to see what the school will look like. Apparently it's massive and really fancy. Maybe it'll be like Hogwarts" Liam joked, putting his laptop back in his bag.

"Doubt that, but it would be cool. Although I am getting Hogwarts vibes from how secretive this all is" Zayn said, throwing his empty wrappers in the bin.

"Maybe there is something they're not telling us. Obviously not magic, but there's definitely something weird about it" Louis agreed, pulling his coat on as the weather looked miserable outside the train.

"I wonder who I'll be sharing a dorm room with. I hope it's nobody weird. I once had to share a room at a summer camp with this guy who looked through all my things whilst I wasn't in the room. Caught him red handed- or shall I say underwear handed" Liam explained, rolling his eyes.

"He looked through your underwear? What the fuck" Louis said, stopping mid way through putting his belonging back in his bag.

"Yup. Proper weirdo. He gave some shitty excuse of saying he thought his underwear could have been mixed with mine during the washing. But I knew it was bull shit, mine were all black and I'm pretty sure his were a neon yellow" Liam scoffed.

"How do you know the colour of his underwear though?" Zayn asked, a smirk on his face whilst Louis started laughing.

"Oh fuck off, I'd seen him come back into our room after he had a shower only wearing them. Don't make it weird" Liam defended as he shoved Zayn away, who had now joined Louis in his laughter.

"Sure there's nothing you want to tell us Liam?" Louis asked sarcastically. However he did notice the blush coat Liams cheeks.

"You know There isn't" he replied, standing up to put his own coat on.

"Anyway good luck with that. I have the pleasure of my own room" Louis boasted, grinning at Liam and Zayn's shocked faces.

"How the fuck- wait, no. Stupid question. You're a Tomlinson" Zayn sighed.

"Damn right I am"

"True, but my family are friends with the headmaster and even I couldn't get my own room. How'd your dad pull that one off?" Liam asked, his eyes filled with confusion.

"We're Tomlinson's, we get what we want and if we don't there's consequences. That's all I can say" Louis dismisses with a shrug, turning to look out the window once again.

"You're making your family sound shady as fuck mate"

"It's not. I mean, I don't know much about what my father does, but either way it's gotten me to where I am now so I'm not going to complain"

But what does he do exactly?

"You're making it worse for yourself" Zayn said with a chuckle, looking at Liam out of the corner of his eye.

"No, you're just making it out to be something it's not. Drop it" Louis snapped.

How dare they think badly of our family.

"Chill, we're only joking. But anyways, if I get some shitty room mate you bet your arse I'm going to spend a lot of time in your room Tommo. Can't keep all your luxuries to yourself" Liam said as he changed the subject, brining a small smile to Louis' face once again.

"You will not! I'd like some fucking privacy in that damn school, cause outside my room there won't be much of it"

"Guess we'll have to sneak in then, right Zayn?" Liam turned to the dark haired lad, putting an arm round his shoulders.

"Of course. Louis won't even notice. We'll be like spies" He replied, the two smiling as Louis shook his head, seeing they were nearing the school.

"Come on. Let's find out what all this is really about" Louis said, grabbing his bag and leaving the train, the two boys trailing behind him.

———————————————————————

"Good evening students" the Headmaster, a man probably in his mid forties with dark brown hair, a neatly trimmed beard wearing a charcoal grey suit welcomed. "I am professor Filch, and I will be your headmaster for the next few years whilst you attend our school"

The students were sat down on posh wooden chairs, neatly lined up in rows, in the main hall of the school. When they had first entered, every student was in awe of the old but lavish building. Except from Louis; he had seen much greater establishments than this.

Instead of being sent straight up to their rooms like Louis had expected, everyone was led from the train into the hall where they were told they would be getting a speech from the main professors of the school. Louis couldn't be arsed with it. He was tired from the journey, his whole body ached and he hadn't eaten anything but snacks since breakfast. All he wanted right now was to find his room and ask a maid to unpack his belongings so he could then send her off to make him a meal which he would gladly enjoy in his bed; away from these filthy students.

"I understand you must all be tired from the journey and are excited to find your dorm and explore the school; however there are a few things you must know" The man explained, looking at all the new faces and stopping on one he was familiar with. Louis Tomlinson.

He looked away after a moment. "There are four main sections of rooms here. The first in the upper left wing, the second on the upper right. The third on the lower left and the fourth on the lower right. The way we have sectioned you will benefit where your classrooms are, we wouldn't want a student being late to classes because of how widespread this school is" He said with a smile, noticing how a few students seemed to agree with his statement.

"Four of our professors will read out the names of their section when my speech is over, they will direct you to your rooms and help you if you need anything whilst settling in. With in each section of rooms we have also separated the boys and girls and room pairings have been done in alphabetical order so it's fair" he gave another look towards Louis, who smirked in return.

"Dinner will be served in here at 6 o clock sharp and you will be eating with the years above you, however feel free to sit with whomever you wish" A few students whispered excitedly at that. "Now, before I let the other professors take over from me, there are a few rules. One, you must be in bed by 10 o clock and no later. As you progress through out this school the time will get later. We have staff patrolling the grounds and if you are found out of your dorm after hours there will be consequences. Two, bullying is not permitted here. The severity of the case will determine what punishment you get, but none of them will be light. Three, some sections of the school are out of bounds, you will find out which from the professors mentoring you"

Louis internally groaned. Rules? Really? He had never been told what to do like this in his life! Sure, his father often told him what he should be doing and what he shouldn't, but they were all rules that would benefit him, not hinder him. This had to be a joke. Surely they couldn't apply to him.

"There are more rules, obviously, but they are the main ones and I don't want to keep you here all night. On weekends you are allowed to visit the shops off grounds but you must be back here by 7 o clock. Tomorrow you will have one day to explore and get to know everyone, find your feet here, and prepare yourself for classes starting the day after. We expect great things from all of you" and with his speech over, another professor with short dark blonde hair stepped up to start reading off names for his section.

"Can't I fucking go now? I'm not even going to be paired with anyone" Louis whispered to Liam, who was sat beside him.

"You're still going to need to know what section you're in, and what teacher" Liam explained.

"I just want to go to bed. I'm exhausted"

"We all are Louis, chill mate. You'll be heading to your dorm room within the next few minutes" Liam said, going quiet once he earned a look from the professor.

"Alright everyone, I'm professor corden and I'll be mentoring the following names in my section of the school. Liam Payne, Leigh Anne Pinnock, Sarah Parker, jack piston, Jessica queen, Louise quell, Laura Robinson, Shannon Rodgers, Peter Redmon, William Reed, Rebecca stone, Hannah steel, Georgia Steph, Sophie Steadman, Harry styles, Louis Tomlinson"

At Louis' name, the room filled with whispers from both students and the teachers. They were all in shock and awe to even be sat in a room with the boy who was rarely ever seen; he was like a myth to them all. Meanwhile Louis sat amongst the whispers and the stares with his head held high, a grin on his face.

"Leah Tonkin, Sasha toile, Reece Utterson and Josh Ulsan. I'd like you to all follow me to the upper right wing please" Professor Corden finished, taking a step down from the stage and waiting for a moment before leading the students to their rooms.

"Least we're in the same section. Shame for Zayn though" Liam muttered to Louis as they walked together behind Mr Corden, excited to finally go and settle in.

"I guess. He'll be alright though, I'm sure he can come visit us during breaks" Louis shrugged, not particularly caring for the boy he had only known for a few hours.

"Hm. Guess I'm sharing with whoever jack piston is then, seeming as he was the only boy in this section close to me alphabetically. You ever heard of their family?" He questioned, seeming as the Tomlinson knew pretty much anyone who was anyone.

"No. Which probably means he's a nerd. There's only two ways of getting into this school. Money, or academics. You don't have enough money to get into a place like this unless you're from a well known family" Louis quipped, smirking at the look of dread on Liams face.

"Great, fucking great" Liam complained.

"Hey, he could be a, well, nice nerd?" Louis joked sarcastically, earning a slight shove from Liam, which he quickly apologised for after earning a scowl from the feathery haired boy.

"Alright, this is the upper right wing. As you can see, all the dorms are fairly close to each other, so if you need any kind of help from a friend, or if you want to make some friends, they're practically your neighbours. However that doesn't mean you can sneak into each other's rooms after hours, I'm only down the corridor so I'll know if you lot are up to something" Corden said with a smile, he seemed like a nice guy.

"You might have been able to figure it out yourselves who you're going to be roomed with whilst i read out your names, but I'll read it off anyway. Room one, Liam Payne and jack Piston. Room two, Leigh Anne Pinnock and Sarah Parker. Room three, Jessica Queen and Louise Quell. Room four, Laura Robinson and Shannon Rodgers. Room five, Peter Redmon and William Reed. Room six, Rebecca stone and Hannah steel. Room seven, Georgia Steph and Sophie Steadman. Room eight, Louis Tomlinson and Harry styles. Room nine-"

"Sir. I apologise if I heard you wrong, but I'm not supposed to have a room mate. I've been told I have a room to myself. There must be some kind of mistake here" Louis interrupted, his eyes going wide at the thought of having to share a room with some low life.

"Mr Tomlinson, there's no mistake here, I assure you. You are rooming with Mr styles" Professor Corden corrected, going back to reading off names as Louis stood staring at him with his jaw dropped.

This can't be right! I don't share. I don't have a room mate! Father said I have my own room, my own privacy. For fucks sake the headmaster told him himself!

"No. I'm not sharing. I don't have a room mate. There is a mistake and my father will be hearing about this" Louis spat out, once again interrupting. Fuck him. Fuck him and his list of room mates. A Tomlinson does not share!

"Mr Tomlinson I've already told you, you are sharing a room with Mr Styles. It's right here on paper" He waved the paper around. "If you have a problem take it up with the headmaster, I'm just doing my job"

Corden shook his head and began reading for the third time. The other students around Louis looked like they wanted to get as far away from the red faced boy as possible; it was like standing next to a ticking time bomb.

"Fine. I fucking will" Louis said, sending a glare towards the professor before shoving past the man as he headed for the main hall. Only when he got there, after about 10 minutes of trying to find his way around the damn place, Professor Filch wasn't there.

Fuck sake! Could this day get any worse?

"Excuse me. Do you know where I can find Professor Filch?" Louis asked another teacher, a tall man with black hair, tanned skin and teeth that looked like they had been bleached.

"And why are you looking for the headmaster Mr Tomlinson?" The man asked, a stoic look on his face as he stared down at the angry boy.

"I don't think that's any of your business. Now tell me, where is he?" Louis spat.

How dare he ask about his intentions!

"As a member of staff here, anything concerning the head master is my business. Especially because I am your deputy head. Now drop the attitude Louis, you're not in your fancy home anymore" The man spoke with venom lacing his tone, his eyes narrowing into slits.

"Who the fuck do you think you are? Speaking to me like that. Do you even know who my father is? Who I am?" Louis questioned, his hands balling up into fists.

"Indeed I do, but that doesn't change a thing. Whilst you're here you're going to learn a few things Louis. One of them being respect. You are not permitted to use bad language around staff members and you are not allowed to boss everyone around just because of your surname. Now, you can either start again and tell me what you need, or you can earn yourself a detention on the first day" He crosses his arms. "Your choice"

To hell with this bullshit!

"Fuck your choices! I'll find him on my own. And don't you think for a second you're getting away with that" Louis warned, turning on his heel and storming out of the large room with determination to find the bloody headmaster and set things right.

Which way. Which way? Why is this bloody school so fucking big?

Louis turned right and walked down a large hallway. There were old paintings hanging on the walls and the floorboards creaked with every step he took. Unfortunately for him, there weren't any signs around the school to indicate where he was, so he continued blindly. His anger fuelling him to find the head teachers office.

He stopped abruptly when hearing voices from the door on his right.

Might as well.

He pushed it open without a second thought, and this clearly wasn't the room he was looking for.

Around ten students immediately stopped talking and turned to look at the boy, who was trying his hardest to not let them see the blush that had coated his cheeks from embarrassment.

Tomlinson's don't get embarrassed.

"Must be another first year who's lost" One of them mumbled, causing Louis to roll his eyes as he turned to leave again.

"Hold on!" Louis stopped in his tracks and turned to face them "Sorry if I'm mistaken, but are you Louis Tomlinson?" A girl with brown hair and fair skin asked, smiling kindly at him.

"Holy shit. I think you're right gems" A boy spoke up, looking closely at Louis as he put his arm around the girls waist.

"I am. What's it to you" he replied, unable to control his anger.

"Sorry. Nothing, I just recognised you from the papers that's all. Are you lost?" The girl spoke again, moving a step forward.

"No I am not lost!" Louis snapped.

God this is embarrassing.

"It's okay if you are. I didn't have a bloody clue where anything was my first year, most people don't. I'm surprised my brother hasn't come looking for me yet, seeming as you've all clearly arrived" She said with a chuckle, calming Louis down a touch. "Maybe you know him. Harry styles?" She asked.

Louis pauses for a moment. He knew that name from somewhere. Oh. Right.

"He's actually the reason I'm lost" Louis stated, a grimace on his face. Gemma furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "I'm looking for professor filches office. There seems to be a mistake, I was supposed to have my own dorm room but now I've been landed with your brother" he spat, putting a frown on Gemmas face.

"Everyone at this school has a room mate. And Harrys not all that bad you know, he's a good kid" Gemma said softly, smiling at the thought of her younger sibling.

"Didn't seem that way on the train"

"What?"

"Never mind. It doesn't matter, what does matter is me finding the headmaster. Can any of you tell me where his office is?" He asked, changing the subject quickly.

"I'll take you there, it's actually not too far away. Come on" Gemma offered, walking past Louis and out of the room.

Louis gave a fake smile towards the rest of the group before following after the girl, walking faster to keep up.

"So. You know my brother?" She asked, making small talk as she climbed the stairs to the top floor.

"In a way. We've only spoken once, and let's just say the conversation was neither long or pleasant" Louis said, not meeting her eyes as he silently cursed all these damn steps.

"That's strange. Everyone seems to love my brother the minute they meet him" Gemma replied, smirking at the way Louis had ran out of breath already. "Not used to so many stairs are we? I suppose you have a fancy lift or something in your home" She pointed out jokingly.

"We do actually" Louis confirmed, the girls eyes widening. "But apparently not everyone loves your brother as much as you think they do"

"No, only you. And you barely know him" Gemma retorted.

"I know enough. First impressions always matter"

"Maybe you both just got off on the wrong foot. Give him a chance. He might not be like all your privileged friends back home-

"I don't have friends. Tomlinson's don't have friends" He cut her off, beginning to get annoyed with the conversation.

"Mustn't that be a lonely way to live?" She asked, stopping at a large door and looking at Louis sadly.

"I wouldn't know. I've only ever had my family, so I guess if you don't have friends to begin with you wouldn't know what loneliness felt like until you lost them"

You're revealing too much.

"Anyway. Is this it?" He asked, looking at the door.

"Um, yeah-"

"That's great. Thank you for the help, but you can leave now" Louis dismissed, turning to knock on the door.

"Louis. If you ever need someone to talk to, you can come to me. Even if you just need help getting settled into the school. I'm sure Harry wouldn't mind either" she said, placing a hand on his shoulder, making him stop as his hand was about to hit the door.

He removed her hand off him. "Thanks for the concern, but I'm good. I've been fine on my own for 16 years of my life, I'm sure a school won't change that" and with that he knocked on the door, hearing a faint "come in", before he pushed it open and went inside. Leaving Gemma to walk back to the common room with a frown on her face.

The room was large, and bright. The windows were massive, giving a great view of the school grounds surrounding the castle like building. There was a huge bookshelf lining the right wall, Louis figured there were at least a thousand books resting on it gathering dust. On the other wall, we're shelves that held countless awards for the school it's self, sporting events, and other extraordinary accomplishments. Louis' eyes then rested on Professor Filch himself, who was sat in a large chair behind a wooden desk, smiling at his wonder.

"Louis Tomlinson. I was waiting for you to show up in my office" He said, gesturing for Louis to take a seat in front of him.

Louis strode in and took a seat, lacing his fingers together as he raised an eyebrow at the man. "Care to explain what happened to my private room" he said, ignoring the mans pervious comment.

He chuckled slightly. "Ah. Right, your father requested a private room for you" he said, as if he had only just remembered.

"Indeed. And you said I could have one. So why is it I have a room mate by the name of Harry styles?" He hissed, his temper slowly rising.

"Mr styles was accepted into this school last minute; after I had told your father you wouldn't have to share. However now he needs a room to stay in and yours was the only one left. I apologise" Filch explained, keeping his calm demeanour.

"I also apologise sir, because I am not sharing that damn room with some disrespectful boy who I haven't even known for more than 5 hours!" Louis exclaimed, leaning forward in his chair.

"I understand your anger, I know it's hard not having any privacy after a lifetime of it. But there's nothing we can do. If there was a spare room we would have given it to Mr Styles, but unfortunately there isn't" He explained.

"You're telling me there isn't a single room he can stay in, in this massive building? You've got to be joking!"

"I'm not"

"Make him sleep in the common room, in the hall. I don't know, the fucking janitors closet! I don't care where he stays as long as it's not with me" Louis demanded, standing up and gesturing around the room with his arms.

"I can't do that, I'm sorry Louis. Please sit down" Louis took a seat with a huff. "First of all, please don't swear at me or any of my staff, it's disrespectful and I thought your father would have taught you that" Louis scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Secondly, I know you may not think it now, but maybe you and Mr styles could become friends. He's a nice lad, and I think it would do you a world of good to have a friend whilst you stay here"

"You don't know anything about me. You don't know what will do me good, and Styles definitely won't be my friend any time soon"

"I know you better than you think I do. I believe you underestimate how much people truly do know about you. That's why I know you're time here is going to be hell on Earth if you refuse to make some friends" The man said, standing up from his seat and making his way around the room, using his finger to gather some dust off the shelves.

"A Tomlinson doesn't need friends. We need followers. People who respect us. Styles definitely doesn't" Louis said, turning in his chair to watch the man closely.

"I think over time you'll change your opinion on that" he said, stopping at a certain book and pulling it out. "Here. I think you would benefit from reading this" he handed the book to Louis.

The autobiography of Sigmund Freud.

"And what the hell will this do for me?" Louis asked, turning the book over in his hands to find a picture of an old man with white hair.

"Sigmund Freud was a neurologist. He founded psychoanalysis and developed theories of personality development. He believed the personality is formed through conflicts among three fundamental structures of the human mind; the id, ego and superego" He explained, watching as curiosity flitted through Louis' eyes.

"I still don't understand how this can be any help to me" Louis stated, dropping the book into his lap.

"It may help you understand your own mind, and the mind of others around you. What's deemed socially acceptable and what isn't. How friendships are formed, how relationships are formed; and why. I'm sure you will figure it out yourself once you read it, you're a smart boy" He said wisely, sitting back in his chair as Louis thought over his words.

"I doubt it will help, I already know all of that shi- sorry, stuff. But anyway, is there seriously nothing you can do about my room?" He asked, sighing.

"I'm afraid not. If for some reason a student leaves or something happens that causes a room to become available, I'll let you know. But for now, I suggest you head off to your room. You've already wasted most of your evening since arriving here. Dinner will be served shortly" Filch said, looking at Louis who huffed and stood up.

"Thank you, I guess" Louis muttered.

Stop muttering.

The man smiled as Louis left.

He took the book.
