Chapter 2~New Friends!
Madison's POV

I knew from the start I was going to love Bayside. I always ended up liking the schools I got to try out. Once in a great while if I was lucky enough to I would make a friend.

See, I'm in foster care. My dad is in jail. For beating up my mom's boyfriend, they had gotten married right after high school. And mom is in drug rehab. She's trying to get better before I end up going to community college one day.

She forgave dad and he forgave her. They want to get back together once he is done with his jail time. Meanwhile I go from family to family. Hoping not to get adopted. Because I want to be able to be back with my mom. And see her get back with dad.

This school semester I ended up here in a nice rich neighborhood called Bayside. I like living with Miss. Mangoo and some of the other kids she is fostering to. She has a very full house. I share a room with three other girls. Two boys stay there to.

The two sisters Debbie and Heather Collins are in grade school. And sweet shy Laura is in middle school. The boys are in grade school to. Matthew and Jordan. I don't remember their last names. Trying not to get attached to anyone. Though I have grown close to Laura this summer.

Her parents died in a car crash last year. And her grandmother can't afford to care for her. Miss Mangoo always says if she hits the lotto one day she will adopt us all and buy a bigger house.

"Hi! Miranda right?" Zack's friend Jessie Spano asks me. I nod shyly. She was so tall. A very pretty girl. Curly hair.

"Yes that's me!" I answer her.

"How do you like Bayside so far? What is your next class?" she asks me.

"I have gym next! I enjoy it here so far! Everyone seems great!" I tell her.

"I am glad. We need new faces around here! I have gym to do does Kelly we can walk with you there!" offers Jessie.

"That would be great! Thanks!" I say happily.

"Hold it! That's my job!" Zack was back. He takes my books to carry them for me. "After all I have to or Mr. B is going to give me detention"

"Zack we have it covered" Jessie laughs.

"I promise I will give you a good review" I joke.

"Oh Zack, who is your new friend? I don't think we have met yet?" a handsome guy joins us. He had longer curly hair and a great set of dimples. Very tan. I could tell he was into sports.

"Slater buzz off" warns Zack. He looks annoyed.

"AC this is Madison! She is new here!" Jessie introduces us. We shake hands.

"My name is AC but everyone calls me Slater" he tells me. I nod. Feeling shy with all the attention on me suddenly.

"Hi, Maddison! I'm Kelly Kapowski! Welcome to Bayside we are happy to have you here!" says Kelly.

"She has gym with us next!" says Jessie to Kelly.

"Wow! Where did you get that name brand Francine Demond jean jacket? I have wanted one forever! They are all sold out! That's vintage! I haven't ever saw anyone here with one!" I hear someone asks me.

I turn around. A beautiful girl smiles at me. She had a very pricy outfit on herself. I put my jacket on because I was chilly. My mom gifted it to me last Christmas. It was from her and my dad. One of the only gifts she ever gave me. She kept up with what foster home I was at. She would send me gifts in the mail.

"My mom gave it to me a few years ago" I say.

"This is Lisa. She's really into the latest fashion and the mall" laughs Kelly.

"And into the latest gossip too" sighs Slater.

"If you have a question about anything or anyone in Bayside come to me" jokes Lisa.

"I see you met my woman" a short geeky guy comes up and puts his arm around her shoulders making her scream. She takes off then the bell rings. He looks defeated then walks away.

"Who or what was that!?" I laugh as we walk to class before the warning bell went off next.

"That's just Sreech! My best buddy" Zack explains to me. "He is weird but a good kid"

Soon we were at gym.

"See ya Zack" I say to him. "Thanks for walking with us"

"No problem! Need me to show you where the girls locker room is?" he jokes.

"Get lost!" warns Jessie.

We chat as we go into the large gym. They show the way to the locker room. I'm given a uniform outfit. A Bayside shirt and white gym shorts. We put our things in a locker. Then go to class. The boys have a teacher and we have one.

I could see Zack smile over at me. I nod then smile as I stand with the girls. We have track for today. We are all to run five long laps around the gym. The boys got to play basketball instead.

As we run we chat a bit. Lisa and Kelly were talking about a singer called Paul Rever who had a new tape coming out soon. I feel someone watching me. I look over at the boys to find Slater watching me this time. Zack was talking to that Screech kid.

Slater smiles at me. I smile back. Everyone seemed to all be friends and be close. I feel a sad ache. I was never going to have that here. Or have a place I belonged to.

I wish I did. My mom might like it at Bayside. Maybe if she was done with rehab she would want to rent a place here. And I could graduate from Bayside with everyone! But that was a pipe dream.

It was never going to happen.
It never did.
