Chapter 79
Chapter 79
●●●
The ground under Jungkook was swaying. It certainly didn't help with the nausea, which was accompanied by one of the worst headaches Jungkook had ever experienced. Completely disoriented, his whole body sore, Jungkook slowly opened his eyes.
They took some time adjusting to the bright cheap light above his head, as he tried to make out the room. Not that there was a lot to see. It was completely empty of any furniture. From the looks of it, it might have been used for other things a while ago but had been emptied and turned into a prison cell.
Jungkook's hands were in handcuffs and chained to the wall behind him. The dart had been removed from his shoulder and his arm was sloppily bandaged.
Still feeling a little foggy Jungkook stared at Taehyung, who was unconscious next to him. His body was leaning against the wall in a sitting position. Compared to Taehyung, Jungkook had all the freedom of movement freedom in the world. His chains allowed him to get up and move around in a radius of roughly one meter. Unlike his, Taehyung's arms were tied behind his back and fixed to the wall. His legs were also chained to each other. There was also a fabric gag tied around his head.
His rougher treatment likely had to do with the fact that Taehyung's previously clean clothes now had blood stains on them. Some of the blood had dried in his hair. There were maybe five sedative darts stuck in different parts of his body. Taehyung probably would have been positively feral, if he hadn't been sleeping... but even then, his sleep didn't exactly look peaceful. Jungkook could tell from the furrow of his brows that Taehyung was not having nice dreams.
Using the bit of freedom he had, Jungkook crawled over, his body still dangerously shaky. He felt like his arms would give in any second. The fact that the ground he was moving on wasn't steady certainly didn't make things easier either. He was almost certain they were on a ship right now, and, based on the movement, a pretty big one at that.
"Taehyung." He whispered instinctively, not wanting to inform whoever had kidnapped them that he was awake. He had no idea what they were planning, but he was sure it wouldn't be anything great.
There was no reaction from Taehyung, even when Jungkook carefully placed a hand on the siren's shoulder. For a few seconds, Jungkook hesitated before slowly reaching out for one of the tranquilizer darts. There was no way Taehyung would be comfortable with these still poking holes in him. There was also a sense of urgency building in Jungkook to see Taehyung wake up.
They had used five of these. Jungkook wasn't sure how strong these were, but one of these had knocked him out and he felt like he had been run over with a truck. He knew how tough Taehyung was, but what if this was too much? What if he didn't wake up? His heart raced as he carefully pulled out one dart after the other.
"I'm sorry if it hurts..." he whispered, almost in a trance, while pressing a piece of his t-shirt against one of the small wounds in Taehyung's skin. Maybe he was imagining things, but Taehyung's face looked a little more relaxed now than it had before.
Trying to make his presence known Jungkook reassuringly patted Taehyung's shoulder, for the first time noticing consciously that Taehyung's claws were out, his hands even more covered in blood than the rest of his body. Jungkook tried not to think too deeply about the origin of the blood as he reached out and reassuringly patted the back of the hand that was tightly clenched behind his back.
"I know we aren't in the best situation right now... but there is no active threat right now. You can relax."
It wasn't very surprising that Taehyung didn't relax his hand.
Jungkook leaned back against the wall, a little clumsily using his handcuffed hands to scan his pockets for his phone. Of course, it was gone. He wasn't even sure if it had been in his pocket when he opened the door, but if it had been, it now no longer was.
Just as he was about to get up to stretch his legs which had partially fallen asleep, there was a sound outside the metal door. Two voices exchanged a couple of words before the heavy door gave a loud screech when it was unlocked from the outside. The inside didn't even have a door handle or anything along the lines.
Slowly it opened and a man glanced inside, clearly cautious of Taehyung. It really seemed like he had raised quite the havoc. When the man found Taehyung still sleeping and Jungkook awake he entered the room, the heavy door behind him falling closed with an ominous metallic groan.
He was wearing the same uniform as the men who had shown up at their door. This wasn't either of the two, but now that his brain was somewhat working properly again, Jungkook could remember hearing yells and many footsteps after he got shot with the sedative. Maybe this soldier had been one of the ones that had been hiding. The fact that he was limping slightly seemed to speak for it and so did the expression of pure disgust he cast towards Taehyung.
His expression towards Jungkook didn't seem much friendlier. "You're awake."
He tossed a bottle of water as well as some bread at Jungkook. Grateful that at least it didn't look like they would let him and Taehyung starve to death, Jungkook picked up the bread. The floor didn't exactly look clean, but he wasn't about to be difficult. He knew what kind of situation he was in and somehow doubted that this whole kidnapping thing was in any way official... might still be government related, but he certainly didn't expect to be treated like someone that had been taken in by the police with a fair trial and all the other stuff.
"I want you to move over there where I can see you and be completely still." The guard said, not the slightest hint of politeness in his tone as he pointed at the spot farthest away from Taehyung. For a second Jungkook wanted to protest and insist on staying stay close to Taehyung. Right now the siren was defenceless.
Jungkook's hand twitched towards the dart on the floor. It wasn't the best weapon, but perhaps it would do...
With a heavy heart he decided against it. If they wanted to hurt Taehyung further, they would have already done so. So, he followed the order and moved as far away from Taehyung as the chains allowed.
"Sit down." Jungkook did, annoyed at how disarming this felt. Like this it would take him a couple of seconds to get up and run over to Taehyung if the man did decide to hurt him after all. He gritted his teeth but tolerated it.
"Don't move an inch." The soldier warned, his fingers resting on the gun at his thigh.
Jungkook nodded and then watched as he carefully approached the siren. When he kicked Taehyung's leg to test if he was awake, Jungkook flinched. It was more than obvious that the man didn't have very positive feelings towards what he perceived as quite the threat. When Taehyung didn't react, he sneered. "Finally, you're asleep. Took long enough. We had to use enough tranquilizer to kill three elephants and here you are, still breathing."
Jungkook sucked in a breath. The man was right, Taehyung was still breathing, but what if he hadn't been able to handle so much? What if he did die just like that?
Jungkook had always felt like Taehyung was somehow invincible, but now he realized that even if Taehyung could survive almost anything, he wasn't immortal. There still were things that could kill him... he still had lungs that could stop taking breaths and a heart that could stop beating.
The soldier didn't seem to notice Jungkook's distress and instead kicked the darts that Jungkook had previously pulled out of Taehyung's body and dropped them on the floor out of reach for both Taehyung and Jungkook. Jungkook was annoyed at himself for not picking up one of them to use as a weapon later.
But then he watched as the soldier counted the darts and felt relief that he hadn't done so. Nothing to provoke these people while Taehyung was as defenseless as he was right now.
He watched as the man kicked Taehyung once again, just to make sure that he was still asleep, before squatting down and roughly grabbing one of Taehyung's arms. Jungkook had to use every ounce of self-control he had to stop himself from scrambling to defend Taehyung and get the soldier to stop touching him. Especially when he looked at Taehyung's bloody claws with so much disgust. Jungkook knew that if it had been this man's choice Taehyung would already be dead.
"What are you doing to him?" Jungkook's voice was still a little off from the aftereffects of the sedatives.
"Administering some sedatives."
Jungkook felt his anxiety spike as the man pulled out a syringe. "But you said the dose he already received was enough to kill more than one elephant. Why use more?"
For a second the syringe seemed unable to penetrate Taehyung's skin, but then with the use of a lot of physical force, it entered Taehyung's skin. Jungkook felt himself cringe back.
"Because he is a danger to the whole ship, and the effects are clearly wearing off." The soldier answered with a completely flat tone. Once again Jungkook felt like he was rooting that maybe the sedatives would kill Taehyung. The fact that he made sure not a single drop was left in the syringe before he pulled it out spoke to that as well.
It left a bitter taste in Jungkook's mouth, he shouldn't have moved away from Taehyung. He wouldn't... he couldn't, next time. He just hoped that this wasn't actually dangerous for Taehyung. That this amount of sedatives wouldn't affect him badly.
When the soldier got up and walked to the door, Jungkook couldn't help glaring at him as he quickly crawled back to Taehyung's side. Taehyung seemed to have fallen back into a deeper sleep again, his hand that had been clenched previously uncurling again.
Suddenly Jungkook understood Taehyung's urge to hiss at threats pretty well. If it hadn't been so damn pointless he probably would have hissed at that asshole guard.
The man snorted at Jungkook's open hostility before looking at how close he had gotten to Taehyung as if shielding Taehyung's body from the man's gaze could do anything.
"You're an idiot getting that close to him. That isn't a human you're protecting there if you haven't noticed. That thing killed five of my men just a couple hours ago. You think he won't touch you?"
Jungkook couldn't help the bitter laugh escaping him. "I know damn well what he will or won't do and if he were awake, I wouldn't be the one that needs to be careful..." And right now, if he wasn't so fucking weak, Jungkook would have been willing to kill the man. He didn't care about the moral implications of that at all. All he could think was that if Taehyung didn't wake up... Jungkook wasn't willing to consider the possibility.
If that happened, he would have just sat there and let them kill Taehyung.
"Be stupid, get yourself killed by that monster for all I care." The man sneered as he knocked on the door, getting the two guards outside to open it for him.
Jungkook stared at the door for a long time after it closed.
