Chapter 75

Chapter 75

●●●

"Sorry. I don't have any time today either. We can chat about how the world is going to shit another day." Jungkook quickly slipped past the guy who sometimes stood on the street and tried talking to people about climate change, all the things they were supposed to change about themselves, and where they were meant to donate. Jungkook was quite aware of how wrong things were going around the world, but when it came to details the guy was spouting a lot of bullshit and the companies he wanted Jungkook to donate to... were a mess. Jungkook doubted any of his donations would even get remotely close to actually helping anyone.

And of course, the man absolutely didn't react well to being told that, so Jungkook kept trying to avoid him. But that wasn't the only reason he was in a hurry. Since Jungkook had been going back to uni and he didn't want to drag Taehyung along with him every time, he had gotten the siren a phone.

And since Taehyung couldn't communicate using text, his understanding of letters was still pretty lacking, they instead used emojis for communication, and if anything urgent happened Taehyung could call him. Taehyung hadn't called him, but he had sent Jungkook some worrisome emojis. Mostly confusing, but Jungkook had a bad feeling about this.

Taehyung

The second message Jungkook knew the meaning of. That one Taehyung was supposed to send when Jungkook needed to get home. The first one on the other hand was a complete mess, but Jungkook was very concerned. Apparently, Tae had gotten into a sword fight that hadn't ended well, according to him.

Increasingly stressed Jungkook unlocked the door to his apartment, expecting to see... honestly, he didn't know. He was just scared of all the possibilities of what he could see. Instead, the moment he opened the door Tuna greeted him, rubbing against his leg and purring. That at least seemed like a good sign. He also didn't spot any of the promised blood.

Once he had slipped out of his shoes he leaned down and picked Tuna up, who was still purring loudly. The cat meowed in protest but let herself be carried into the apartment.

"Taehyung? Everything okay?" Jungkook called, still worried. He heard a thud from the bathroom, then another weird noise, and then a whooshing sound he had a hard time identifying. Alarmed he walked up to the bathroom and opened the door, not knowing what to expect at all.

What did greet him was probably the thing he had last expected to see. The bathroom... was simply his bathroom, looking the same as always. Taehyung had lifted his head from where he was sitting on the edge of the bathtub, the water running.

"You... is everything okay?" Jungkook put Tuna down on the floor and the cat quickly moved over to Taehyung's feet, rubbing against them, clearly asking for pets.

Taehyung looked a little caught. "Yeah... I'm okay." His brain was clearly working as he stared at Jungkook in silence.

"What... are you doing?"

Jungkook nodded towards the bathtub. It wasn't filled yet. Not even plugged. The water just went straight down the drain.

"That..." Was Taehyung looking for an excuse? What the hell had those sword emojis meant? "A bath. I want to take a bath." Taehyung nodded to himself, content with the excuse he had found.

Jungkook gasped. "Wait, are you lying to me right now? I thought sirens couldn't lie."

"Oh, we can. We just don't because it's not something that would make sense in our culture."

"So you're lying to me right now?" Jungkook raised his eyebrow.

"Eh. Not really. I do actually want to take a bath." Taehyung grinned a little cheekily.

Jungkook sighed. "But is that why you're over here... doing whatever you're doing here?"

Taehyung shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe not exactly."

Raising his eyebrows Jungkook crossed his arms. "Alright... do I even want to know what you're doing here?"

"Don't think so." Taehyung offered, finally plugging the drain.

"Alright. Then I guess I won't continue asking." Jungkook didn't think Taehyung would keep anything secret that would present any kind of danger to him. He trusted Taehyung that much. "So, what was that message about."

Taehyung got up, wiping his hands on his trousers as he did. Those weren't the same ones Taehyung had worn when Jungkook had left. Neither was the t-shirt.

"Some guys broke in. Three of them. When they saw me they attacked me. No idea how they got in. They had a key." Taehyung explained, grabbing a key he had placed right next to the bathroom sink. "This one."

Jungkook felt a cold shudder crawling up his back. This wasn't good at all. What the fuck. Some guys had broken into his apartment. Probably the second time actually. Why his apartment and where the hell had they gotten this key? It looked entirely different from his own, but when he compared the two keys, the key bit at least seemed to match.

"Where... where are they now? Did they run off or did..." Jungkook didn't finish the sentence. Oh. "Do I want to know?"

Taehyung shook his head. "Don't think so."

Jungkook couldn't help glancing back at the bathtub. He didn't see anything. Was his brain just coming up with stuff now or...

Taking a deep breath Jungkook nodded. "Alright. Then don't tell me. I think I have a good idea of what happened. Did the guys really just straight up attack you?"

Taehyung seemed to think for a second. "I think they tried to grab me at first, at least until..." There was a pause, as if Taehyung was leaving something out. " ...one of them tried shooting me."

Jungkook's eyebrows shot up. "Tried? Did he miss?"

Taehyung shook his head, lifting his T-shirt. He had a small bruise on his stomach. Barely noticeable. The kind Jungkook would get from bumping his leg against something.

"You're fucking terrifying... are you aware of that?" Jungkook shook his head in disbelief. But he was also really relieved. He wouldn't have been able to cope whatsoever had Taehyung actually gotten shot.

"There's a good chance you have told me that before." Taehyung chuckled, covering his stomach with his t-shirt again.

"Anyways... that is concerning. If those were the same guys as before, then it makes no sense for them to come back after last time. They already got everything they wanted... unless they didn't."

Maybe someone knew of Taehyung's involvement in the death of that guy... or worse. What if someone knew about Taehyung? What Taehyung was. What was Jungkook supposed to do? Was there even anything he could do?

"I think I'll call my parents and ask them to send someone to switch out the lock on the door..." One step at a time. Small problems first. Then he could start worrying about the big things.

Taehyung nodded in agreement. "I think I'll take that bath."

Jungkook's heart was racing as he turned around to leave the room, to go somewhere quiet. His eyes caught a tiny remaining droplet of red in one of the corners of the bathroom. Well, now he knew where the guys had gone.

What the hell was the life he was living right now?

A couple of days had passed since the incident and the first two days Jungkook had been on high alert, worrying every time he left Taehyung alone for longer than ten minutes. But when, even after five days, still nothing had happened he found himself relaxing again.

Maybe it had just been thieves. Maybe that was all there was to it. Jungkook certainly liked that thought more. More than the photographer that kept popping into his head, his brain clearly trying to connect him to this whole thing. Why had he run away like that? Was it because he knew about Taehyung?

He really hoped that that wasn't the case. Jungkook much preferred no one being out there that knew of Taehyung's existence.

"Kookie?"

Taehyung called from the living room, where he had been playing on his phone. Jungkook, who was doing some homework on his computer in the kitchen, got up to check up on Taehyung.

The siren was sitting comfortably on his couch, his legs tucked in under him, Tuna sitting in his lap as she always did. She was a little biased with the two of them because Taehyung was the one that kept feeding her the good snacks Jungkook was too strict for.

"Yeah?"

"I have been looking at some stuff about human reproduction... humans have weird taste." He held out the phone for Jungkook to look at. His screen was showing some cheap porn. Jungkook could feel his cheeks heat up. There was an accidental declaration in there that Taehyung was clearly too straightforward to be bothered by.

Jungkook blinked, taking the phone from Taehyung's hand. The porn that was playing was your typical very questionable video with plot and incredible acting. Truly incredible.

"Just so you know... this is not a good representation of what human sex is like."

Taehyung looked confused. "Like, technically?"

Wow, Jungkook was not prepared for this conversation. "No... technically this is how humans have sex... but usually we don't act like this while we do."

Taehyung hummed. "Seemed a little odd. Do you maybe have something more real? Or you could tell me about it."

Oh god.
