Chapter 72
Chapter 72
●●●
"You think I could tell her?" Jungkook had spent the last year contemplating that question. Especially while Taehyung had been gone, but it felt wrong to do so without his permission so he hadn't. Jungkook knew he could trust Eunji to keep secrets... but this was a whole other thing on its own.
Eunji had left Taehyung and Jungkook alone on the couch they had just carried in, while she made them some tea. They had decided to take a small break after carrying stuff around for a good hour. While Jungkook was clearly exhausted, not used to this type of physical labor, Taehyung was completely unbothered, even though he had shouldered most of the weight. If there was one thing a siren boyfriend was good for it was moving.
"Tell her what?" Taehyung asked, even though what Jungkook was talking about was pretty clear.
"About what you are... it would be kind of nice to be able to have someone I can talk to about everything. I know I can trust her... the question is just if you can." Jungkook knew it was a lot to ask of Taehyung. If people found out about him he could actually be in danger.
"Do you guys want some honey in your tea?" He nearly got a heart attack when Eunji suddenly appeared in the doorway.
"Yeah, please." He answered, trying not to let the fact that he felt caught show.
"Gotcha." Eunji nodded, disappearing again.
Jungkook turned back to look at Taehyung, who was thoughtfully studying his hands. "If you ask me if I trust her... not really. But I don't really have to trust for that either. I'm not really in danger if you do tell her. If she decides to tell other people, it's not likely anyone will believe her anyways and if they do... they still aren't really a threat to me." Taehyung concluded. "At least I know there are a handful of people that know Jimin isn't human... just some minor slip ups over the years and none of them ever ended up giving him trouble."
Damn, Jungkook had never really thought of that before. But Taehyung was right. As long as a person didn't have substantial evidence, people were bound to write them off as insane. That's just how humans were. There were so many lies on the internet about supernatural experiences... and the furthest they got were being featured for making a great story.
"So... you're okay with me telling her?"
"I don't mind." Taehyung smiled. "You said you could use someone to talk to about all of this... I know the fact that you only have Yoongi as a human to talk about this siren stuff is frustrating."
"Thank god." Jungkook let out a sigh of relief. There were a lot of things he wished he could just throw at another person and see what they thought of it... someone who had nothing to do with all of this. Eunji had always been that person, but over the last year they had sort of grown apart simply because of the fact that Jungkook hadn't really been able to openly talk about his problems anymore.
"Now the only question is how to best tell her..."
"Tell me what?" Eunji entered the room with two steaming cups of tea. "Are you planning to break up with me, Jungkook?" She asked with a dramatic voice as she placed down both cups.
"Bold of you to assume I'm talking about you..." This certainly made things easier.
"Well, was it about me?" Eunji grinned while sitting down on the lounging chair opposite of Taehyung and Jungkook.
"Possibly." Jungkook admitted, unable to stop a smile from making its way onto his face. "And I guess I will just say it straight out, no skirting around the topic." He took a deep breath, trying to think of how he could start this properly. There really was no right way to do this.
"This is going to sound absolutely crazy, but I need you to believe me... and keep what I'm about to tell you to yourself and don't tell anyone... okay?"
Eunji shrugged, nodding. "I mean, of course."
"Yeah, I know... aaaah I have no idea how to say this." He brought his hands up to rub his face. "Uhm yeah, so I still haven't been completely honest about how Taehyung and I met. This probably isn't the best point to start... but Taehyung and I actually met when he tried to drown me."
Next to him Taehyung exhaled through his nose, in something that sounded a little like a laugh. He was probably amused at how fucking dumb it was to preface this whole conversation with that.
Eunji on the other hand looked very sceptical, raising her eyebrow at Jungkook, as if to say "What the hell is the context to that?".
"Fucking god, how the hell am I even supposed to explain this bullshit? Taehyung isn't human. Like, actually not human. A mythical creature. A siren to be exact... and don't look at me like that." Eunji had opened her mouth like she was about to ask him what drugs he was on in a joking way.
"No, I'm not drunk, I also don't have a concussion and neither did I have a psychotic break because Minji broke up with me. Trust me when I say it sounds just as unbelievable to me as it probably does to you... although the last couple of months have made it feel more real." Jungkook sighed. "Taehyung kind of forced me to show him around the human world because he hasn't really gotten the chance to see it himself."
"Are you really not bullshitting me?" Eunji asked, with that sceptical tone still in her voice. She seemed a little torn because she knew that she could usually trust Jungkook with stuff like this and he wasn't the type to play dumb pranks... but at the same time even Jungkook could hear how ridiculous it sounded.
Jungkook didn't miss the way her eyes were wandering over to Taehyung, though like she was considering it. As uncomfortable as Jungkook felt explaining this Taehyung seemed even more so than him.
"I'm really not. Our relationship also didn't start off the best because of that... as you noticed. But it got a lot better over time... and we actually are together now." Jungkook explained. Honestly, he was just glad that Eunji even considered the possibility and didn't just write it off as Jungkook imagining things. Years of friendship certainly did mean something.
"Can you prove it? I mean that he's not human? Does he have some fancy powers like... I don't know. What can sirens do? Read minds or something?"
Jungkook thought of Taehyung's voice but came to the conclusion that showing that would be a little too uncomfortable for Eunji. He didn't want to scare her off. He wanted to get her to believe him so that he'd finally be able to confide in someone.
"Uhm... he doesn't usually look like this." Jungkook was aware they were talking about Taehyung like he wasn't there, but at the same time Taehyung was already so used to that that he probably didn't mind. Possibly even preferred it, even when he was the focus of the conversation.
Jungkook grabbed Taehyung's hand, holding it out for Eunji to see. Then he looked back at Taehyung, who was just letting him do whatever. "Tae?"
"Sure." Taehyung muttered before letting his hand slip back into its natural clawed form, the black color close to the shading of his fin slowly traveling its way along his arm until the skin up to his elbow was covered. Eunji's eyes opened wide, the truth clearly only now sinking in.
"Holy shit... is this real?" She reached her fingers out to touch Taehyung's claws and Jungkook quickly pulled them back.
"Careful. They are really sharp... trust me, I know. It's easy to underestimate."
Eunji nodded slowly, reaching out nevertheless and touching the skin of his hands. Jungkook knew that it would feel a little rougher than normal skin under her fingers. God it was weird how well he knew how Taehyung's hands felt even in this state.
"Damn..." Eunji muttered, clearly in awe, before looking up at Taehyung, mustering him closely. Jungkook could tell Taehyung was growing a little uncomfortable under her prodding gaze.
"Wait, you tried to kill Jungkook?" What Jungkook had said earlier finally seemed to settle in. Eunji furrowed her eyebrows in worry.
"Yeah... I did." Taehyung was clearly getting more uncomfortable by the second. Jungkook decided to get between the two of them before Eunji could start actually getting mad at Taehyung. Maybe in the past that would have been fair, but they were far past that point.
"Okay, that's enough. Taehyung tried to kill me, but that's normal for sirens so you can't really blame him... and he came around and promised me not to kill anyone anymore so it's all good." Jungkook patted Taehyung's hand that had switched back to human looking. Almost like Taehyung was hiding away again. Maybe even with how scary Taehyung was, leaving a bad impression on Jungkook's best friend was anxiety inducing too.
"But he tried to kill you? How can you just...?" Eunji gestured between the two of them.
Jungkook exhaled with a chuckle. "You know... it has been a while and I like Taehyung... and I know he's not malicious. At least most of the time. Trust me, it's all good now." Jungkook remembered something that he could possibly use to redirect Eunji's attention.
"Oh, right! Now that you know about Taehyung I can also tell you that Suga is not actually dead."
Eunji gave him an incredulous look. "What does that have to do with anything? And what?!"
"Taehyung's brother... the producer boyfriend. Min Yoongi. Suga. I know you were devastated when you heard he was dead. He isn't really..."
The look of absolute confusion Eunji gave him made him snort out loud. Maybe it was just how ridiculous this whole situation was, but to him, that was the funniest fucking thing.
