Chapter 15

●●●

The day passed a lot quicker than Jungkook had anticipated and when Taehyung gestured for him to come with him, he suddenly felt struck by déjà vu. They had been here, before hadn’t they…

Nevertheless, he followed Taehyung through the familiar streets, already with a pretty good idea of where they were going. He wasn’t even surprised when he spotted the ocean in the distance. And surely, once again the sun was setting and it was growing colder and darker. At least he had a jacket with him this time around.

“Are you going for a swim again?” Jungkook let his eyes wander over the strong waves crashing against the rocks in the distance. The water seemed dangerous to him, but it probably looked inviting to Taehyung.

From what Jimin had told him sirens quickly grew homesick… missed the ocean. Especially ones like Taehyung who had spent all their life in its depths. It was probably part of the reason Taehyung seemed to be spending most of his time in Jungkook’s bathtub now. It wasn’t remotely close to the ocean, but it probably felt a bit more like home than Jungkook’s sofa did.

When Jungkook looked back at Taehyung the boy had already walked ahead. He had probably given some kind of answer Jungkook hadn’t noticed because he had been looking away. Not the smartest thing maybe, but then once again, there was no difference between him knowing what Taehyung was planning or not knowing anything about it. He’d have to go along either way.

They reached the spot where Jungkook had almost drowned - fond memories, really – and Taehyung simply started undressing. Jungkook quickly looked to the side because even though the siren didn’t seem to have a sense of decency Jungkook had.

Yes, he had seen the siren’s dick before, but no, he wasn’t trying to see it again. Sexualizing the siren certainly wasn’t going to help with his situation.

There was a loud splash and when Jungkook looked back to where the siren had been standing all that was left were the clothes that had been carelessly thrown to the ground. The first time Taehyung had gone back to the ocean Jungkook had felt a tiny bit of hope that maybe the boy wasn’t going to return.

That he would stay in the ocean and Jungkook was going to realize he wasn’t coming back and leave and everything would turn back to normal. But after talking to Jimin he knew that would never be the case. That that wasn’t going to happen. Taehyung was simply enjoying the ocean for a bit before coming back and making his life harder again.

Jungkook moved to sit back by the stones, pretty close to the edge because that way he could see the water better, just in case the siren came back. Even with how dangerous he was… there was something enticing about Taehyung.

About him being so beautiful. His tail… his eyes… the fact that he was a siren. A mythical creature. Maybe if he hadn’t been this scared Jungkook would have been excited about the aspect of seeing such a creature for the first time. Hell, even about having it live with him.

His life had been boring before, but now it certainly wasn’t any longer. Everything about Taehyung was interesting… but no matter how interesting he was… he was even more dangerous. And Jungkook didn’t want to die. Maybe he’d joke around with his friends a bit, but he’d never actually meant it.

Death was scary. Especially such a painful, drawn-out death. Even now, days after what had happened, he could still feel Taehyung’s iron grip around his ankle as he dragged him even deeper. Still remembered struggling for air before water filled his lungs like molten lava.

Those few seconds had felt like hours. That wasn’t something he ever wanted to experience again. The fear. The pain. His dreams did a pretty great job of re-enacting them, but they didn’t get even remotely close to the dread he had felt at that moment.

Jungkook swallowed thickly, grabbing his phone from his pocket to distract himself because he felt really on edge, but some movement down in the water caught his eyes. When he squinted his eyes to see better the reason for all his suffering came into view.

Taehyung’s body was completely hidden in the inky dark water. The sun was no longer visible, but the sky hadn’t lost all its light yet so the water seemed even darker than it did when it was completely dark.

Seeing Taehyung was weird. The only thing above the surface was his head up to his nose as he looked up at Jungkook with those unsettling gray eyes. Jungkook stared right back. Even from here he could feel how predatory Taehyung was. It was bad enough when they were alone, but right now Taehyung was in his element.

Jungkook had no idea how many people he had drowned just like this. How many had been sitting by the beach, unsuspecting, and then Taehyung had shown up, pulling them in with his face and voice.

Even knowing what Taehyung was Jungkook felt that tug at his body. Part of his mind wanting to get closer to the beautiful creature while in the more rational part of his brain a whole bunch of alarm clocks went off.

“What do you want?”

He moved a bit closer to the edge, but not without lying flat on his stomach to minimize the risk of falling in… or being tugged in, even hooking his feet into one of the cracks between the stones. He felt a bit safer like this as he looked at Taehyung, who was now right by the stones. Close enough to reach out and touch Jungkook if he wanted to. Not that he would, given that the siren didn’t seem too fond of body contact.

Up close Taehyung’s face looked even more unsettling as it finally completely emerged from the water and he looked up at Jungkook. Even now, with Jungkook’s rational side recoiling, that part of his brain that Taehyung had control over seemed to be convinced that Taehyung was just as innocent as he looked as he stared up at Jungkook with those big, round eyes, soft features and beautiful lashes.

Jungkook startled when he felt something wet touch his hand. He hadn’t even realized he had put his hands to the edge of the stones and now Taehyung’s hand was on his. His claws resting against his skin but not applying any pressure. Jungkook stared at the scary sight, his anxiety spiking because Taehyung’s claws never meant anything good, but then again, they were probably just there because he was in his most natural form. Just like in the bathtub.

He had to get himself to calm down, because panicking and pulling his hand away would create a lot more damage than waiting for Taehyung to move his scary hand away.

Then Taehyung tugged at his hand. Lightly. Carefully, probably because he too knew how badly his claws could hurt Jungkook.

It didn’t take much to guess what Taehyung wanted from him. But there weren’t many things Taehyung could have asked him to do that Jungkook was more likely to say no to.

“I’m not getting into the water with you.”

Taehyung pulled again, but Jungkook shook his head firmly. “No fucking way. I know it may not seem like it to you, but I’m not stupid. You basically drowned me. Not doing that again.”

Taehyung rolled his eyes but let go of his hand, moving back a bit before dipping down into the water, but not without splashing Jungkook with his gigantic tail. Jungkook quickly moved away from the edge of the stones, but there was no way to escape the water raining down on him. For a second he sat there, his heart racing, but then he couldn’t help a laugh escaping his lips. “Petty asshole!”

Maybe he was just imagining things when he heard someone laughing, because the moment he looked at the water, no one was there.
