Chapter 11
Chapter 11
●●●
The guy who had opened the door looked older than Jungkook, probably by a few years. He was a bit shorter than Jungkook and had grown out black bangs that kept falling into his face. Jungkook vaguely remembered his face, although he had a hard time pinpointing from where exactly he knew it.
Jungkook watched as he mustered the boy before turning to him. He seemed a bit confused. Like it made no sense that Jungkook was here. So far he hadn't said anything, so maybe he was mute just like the boy, but as if to prove otherwise the guy shook his head and turned towards his apartment.
"Jiminie, Tae is here... and he brought someone?!" Tae? Was that the creature's name? Wow, he had gathered one tiny piece of information.
He could hear steps as another person jogged towards the door. When he finally came into view Jungkook's breath caught in his throat. The boy was beautiful. Bright eyes, a warm smile and glossy lips. Everything about him looked so soft and warm. Jungkook felt a tiny bit of jealousy as he gripped the other guy's arm and leaned onto him, interlinking their hands.
Just like with the first guy Jungkook had the strong feeling that he had seen this boy before, but he just couldn't remember where. Which was pretty weird because he was certain he would have remembered ever meeting someone this pretty.
He expected one of them to start speaking. Someone to explain to him what was going on because he really hoped that he would finally get some answers. But none of them did. Instead, the boy who had just joined the small group at the door was staring at the creature while the one with the black hair watched him, seeming a bit... curious.
Jungkook wondered whether this was a normal thing for them. If the creature just sometimes brought his food here. He really hoped it wasn't though.
"What the hell, Tae?" The boy with the bright blond hair suddenly said, furrowing his brows before he turned to Jungkook, looking a bit concerned. "Are you alright?"
The question caught Jungkook so off guard he didn't know what to answer. "Uhm... Yeah... I think."
Pretty boy shook his head, turning to the other guy, sending him some kind of look Jungkook couldn't decipher before grabbing his arm and tugging him inside. "Come in. I'll make you some tea or coffee. Whatever you want."
With that, he was forced to step into the apartment. Just like he had expected it looked quite fancy. Simple, but clearly designed by an architect. The black-haired guy followed right after them and behind him followed Tae. For a second Jungkook wondered whether they knew what he was... were they scared of him? Didn't seem like it.
At least the guy with the black hair seemed more confused by his presence than Tae's.
"Uhm I have no clue what's going on... but how about we start by introducing ourselves?" Jungkook suggested, still feeling quite awkward because he really hadn't expected to get social interactions out of this trip.
"Park Jimin, nice to meet you." The blond-haired smiled, leading him to the kitchen table and gesturing him to sit down. He turned around to the black-haired dude, who was still eyeing him with something akin to suspicion. "That is my boyfriend. Min Yoongi."
Jungkook remembered having heard that name before. Or at least there was a producer Eunji hyped way too much with a similar name. Jungkook nodded at him before looking at Tae, who had also taken a seat and was currently playing with the salt shaker. "What's his name?" He had to find out if his actual name was Tae.
"That's my brother, Taehyung."
Jungkook felt his whole body tense up. Brother. If that creature was his brother then the boy before him was... "Are you going to..." He could hear his voice get quieter. As if sensing that what he was about to say wasn't anything positive Jimin quickly lifted his hand in reassurance.
"No. No, you don't have to worry about me. I'm all friendly." The smile he sent him after saying that really felt a lot more... reassuring. He didn't have that void he kept seeing in Taehyung's eyes. He looked a lot more human.
Whenever Jungkook looked at Taehyung there was something about the creature that didn't sit quite right with him. Even though his appearance was human he didn't feel like it. There still was something off. But when he looked at Jimin the boy might be looking otherworldly, but he certainly didn't look inhuman.
"Are you... whatever he is, too?" Jungkook asked, nodding towards Taehyung's direction, who had just completely logged out of the conversation, instead listening to whatever they were talking about on the radio.
"He's a siren... if you have been wondering. And yes, I am too." Jimin explained before quickly adding. "Yoongi is human though."
When Jungkook looked back to the black-haired boy he had made himself comfortable on the other side of the table. While he didn't look... confused, like Jungkook felt, he also didn't look like he had any idea what was going on per say.
"You're a... siren? But aren't those usually women?" Jungkook asked. A siren. That made a lot of sense actually. Deadly creatures that drowned sailors and fed on them. Jungkook remembered the night he had met Taehyung. How he had thrown himself over the cliff, not even thinking about the dangers.
"I have no clue why human mythology paints it that way, but it's not a women only thing." Jimin shook his head, fixing Jungkook with his eyes, and just for a second Jungkook actually could see some similarities between him and Taehyung. Jimin genuinely seemed to be nice though while Taehyung... he was just scared of Taehyung.
"Taehyung brought you here for a reason. Because he wants me to tell you why he's following you around." Jimin stated as he moved around the kitchen. "Tea, coffee or hot chocolate?"
Once again the question was quite distracting because there were so many things that were going on and here Jungkook was having to decide what he wanted to drink. "Tea, please." He hesitated, looking at Taehyung, who was playing with the channels on the radio. "Why is he following me around? I don't know how you communicate, but maybe he told you that he almost drowned me? And then he just... pulled me back to land and has been following me around since."
Now the guy sitting opposite of him, Yoongi, looked kind of like he was feeling bad. Well, he was human too so it made sense. At least he seemed to understand him.
"Yeah, Taehyung showed me. You were quite lucky actually." Jimin moved the water kettle. "I know it's not really reassuring, but you could have died... and you didn't. That's something." Yeah, Jungkook didn't know about that. He'd been damn close to dying and while he was glad to still be breathing he also wasn't too happy about his current situation.
"He's still following me around and is acting pretty threateningly, so I'm not too sure if I should be happy about this." Jungkook stated, looking around just to find Taehyung watching him again. It was so weird. How could Jimin seem so human while simply having Taehyung's eyes on him just made him feel unsettled and restless?
"I know he's a bit... intense, but he isn't going to kill you." Going by the way Taehyung raised an eyebrow at Jimin Jungkook had the strong feeling that that was not what the siren had said. "The reason he's following you around is that he's curious about the human world too. Because I settled down here."
Jungkook pressed his lips into a thin line. "That's great and all, but as far as I'm concerned that has nothing to do with me."
Jimin seemed way too calm with this whole situation. He was talking about his brother drowning someone like it was nothing... well, that actually made sense. After all, he apparently wasn't human either. But it still was unsettling how calm he stayed as he added a tea bag to the hot water and turned around to Jungkook.
"I understand that this is... scary." Yeah, scary really didn't cut it. Jungkook was balancing on a fine line and one little mishap could easily kill him. Just one small thing he might do wrong and he'd be gone. End up as fish food. "But Taehyung needs you to show him around. He can't get to know the human world without someone guiding him."
No matter how pretty Jimin looked, Jungkook could feel himself grow more annoyed by the second. Jimin seemed sweet and all but he really didn't feel understood at all. Of course, Jimin was trying to help his brother and not some random guy he had just met.
"I don't want to be his guide. He'll probably just kill me when he feels like it." Jungkook stated, crossing his arms over his chest.
Jimin sighed, leaning against the counter. "Look, I know that this situation is really shitty. But I can't do anything. He's not the type to just change his mind." Jimin nodded into Taehyung's direction, who was watching them, not reacting at all when his name was dropped. "What I can try to do is make this thing as pleasant for you as possible." He chuckled. "That sounds wrong."
Jungkook let out a sigh. So not even the guy's brother could help. Great. At least Jimin seemed to be trying. "Alright. What do you suggest?"
After handing him his tea Jimin sat down next to him, his tiny hands wrapping around his own cup. Did he have claws he was hiding too? Were his eyes just as scary as Taehyung's when he turned into a siren? He didn't seem as dangerous as Taehyung, but could he truly be harmless when they shared the same nature?
"Show Taehyung around. Take him to places. Just share things you like with him. You don't have to stop living your daily life, just let him tag along, after all that is part of being human too. He's a creature of the sea and will probably get bored soon anyways. I think if you do that and don't give him any reasons to kill you he'll let you live. Right, Taehyung?"
Jungkook turned around and once again he watched the siren shrug to answer the question if he would kill Jungkook. God, he really hated this. What had he done to deserve this?
When he turned back around Jimin sighed before giving him a tight-lipped smile. "It'll all work out some way. Taehyung hasn't killed you so far, so things are looking good." Wow, how reassuring.
"Do you drown people too? Taehyung clearly does, but you seem pretty... normal." Maybe this was a bit too personal, but Jungkook had to know. While Jimin seemed normal at first glance, the way he nonchalantly glazed over the fact that Taehyung constantly threatened to kill Jungkook made feel weird.
It only hit him then that he was just sitting there, in close proximity to two creatures that had probably killed tons of people before. He could feel the thin hairs on the back of his neck rise.
"Not anymore. I used to... but not to the extend Taehyung does." He watched as Jimin glanced at Yoongi. Those two certainly had some history together otherwise, a human wouldn't be willingly dating a siren. Even less one that had actually killed people before.
"Why did you stop?" Yeah, he was totally asking way too personal questions, but common courtesy had long gone out the window.
"Don't you think it would be weird to be dating a human while still eating them?" Jimin asked and Jungkook could feel a shiver run down his spine. How could he say that so casually?
"Actually..." Yoongi commented from the other side of the table, leaning back. "... what about those guys? We were pretty close to dating back then?"
Jimin rolled his eyes. "Okay okay, I didn't stop because it would have been weird for me but because he..." He pointed at Yoongi. "...told me it would be weird. So I'm a good siren now." He chuckled and Jungkook could hear Yoongi sigh at the other side of the table, but he didn't say anything against it.
"Does Taehyung eat-" He shuddered at the thought. "-humans regularly?"
Jimin glanced over at Taehyung, who was just relaxing on his seat, listening in on their conversation. Then he turned back around to Jungkook, smiling a bit awkwardly. "About once a week?"
Nope. Jungkook was done with this. If he was going to die, alright, but he certainly wasn't going to house a mass murderer. "No... that's... fuck." He swallowed. "I can't. Taehyung has to look for someone else to show him around because I honestly feel like throwing up at the thought of..." He remembered the feeling of Taehyung's claws against his neck. The water as it filled his lungs. Taehyung did that regularly. And usually, he actually killed.
"He just has to act like he's a human. You two could get him into some sort of tourist program because I really, really can't... shit... I really could have died back there." He looked down at the floor. He had been this close to dying.
He startled when he felt a hand on his back, but it was just Jimin. He didn't know how to feel anymore. Jimin might be nicer than Taehyung, hadn't threatened him and apparently didn't kill humans... at least not anymore, but he was capable of the exact same things.
Nevertheless, the hand rubbing his back helped him calm down as he pinched the bridge of his nose, his heart racing in his chest because for the first time in days it really hit him what had happened. The heaviness of the situation really got to him... because now he realized he could easily have been one of hundreds Taehyung had killed in his life. He'd just gotten awfully lucky.
"Look. I won't let Taehyung kill you, okay? But I need you to do this for him." Jimin was still soothingly rubbing his back, but Jungkook didn't really notice it anymore. Instead, he felt like the fact that he still wasn't safe was just getting pushed into his face even more. Taehyung still could easily decide to kill him.
When Jungkook looked up he met Taehyung's eyes. He was watching them with an intent gaze. As if he was leaving negotiations up to Jimin. Jungkook knew he wouldn't get out of this. At least he had to get himself some good terms. "If I'm supposed to show him around I want him to promise that he won't kill me as long as I am his guide... and not afterwards either." He held his eye contact with Taehyung, well aware he could understand him.
"Is that alright with you, Tae?" Jimin asked from next to them and to Jungkook's surprise, the siren nodded, not breaking eye contact with him either.
A bit of relief flooded through Jungkook, although he wasn't all that convinced. Nevertheless, he sighed and leaned back. "Why even me? Sending him to someone who doesn't know would be better for him."
Jimin shrugged his shoulders sitting down again and using his small spoon to stir his tea.
"Apparently he kind of likes you."
