Chapter 17

A/N: thank you for waiting patiently for this chapter. enjoy x

Louis pov

The boat rocked like a drunkard stumbling down an uneven sidewalk. The sky looked like smoke, darker than I had seen in a while. Water poured down from the heavens and struck my back like drummers from hell.

Crates of supplies slid across the deck, crashing into the walls of port and starboard. I watched them frolicking in the rain, timing my run to their chaotic choreography. I looked back at Niall, who was struggling to control the boat. He shouted from the cockpit, "Be careful!"

I sucked in a deep breath and took off. "Louis, 4 o'clock!" Niall shouted. I turned back only for a heavy crate to collide into me, pressing me up against another.

"Argh!" I groaned. I wriggled like a worm, trying to dislodge my body from between them but to no avail.

"Lou, I'm coming," Harry cried. I saw him wave at me from the shelter. Liam tried to stop him.

"Harry, stay where you are," I ordered but this clumsy baby giraffe of a man decided to run into the rain onto the slippery deck when he slipped and fell. I shook my head but I could only barely. Liam pulled Harry back into the shelter, giving him a warm towel. A warm towel never looked so tempting. My whole body was drenched. The freezing cold water had risen past my ankles, and would only keep rising.

The boat shifted. I slipped out from between the crates as they slid in a different direction before they had the chance to trap me again. Just a little bit from the front of the boat, I saw the drain clogged by some leaves and other gross debris. I stuck my hand in the junk to force it out of the drain hole. The murky water made it hard to see what I was doing. I had not realised how gross it had gotten. I chose to ignore it. I was practically splashing around in the filth. There was no escaping it until I had gotten rid of the clog.

Loose. Finally. I shoved the gross chunk of miscellaneous debris into a plastic bag and shoved it into my pocket. Quickly, I headed back, past the dancing crates into the shelter.

Liam had scrambled into the lower deck to look for another towel. Harry opened up his arms to wrap me inside a tight hug. We headed down the deck, dripping all over the floors. I held tightly to the railing, trying not to fall as the boat continued to sway.

"Here," Liam handed me a towel. I wrapped it around myself.

"Go, get changed," Aurora said, "before you catch a cold."

I nodded. Harry and I headed to the bathroom where we stripped ourselves of the soggy clothes. I fished the plastic bag out of the wet pile of fabric. "Gross," I commented, tossing it into the trash.

Shivering, I quickly got into the shower. The warmth washed over me. Harry got in after me. I let him stand under the water as I lathered shampoo into my hair and soap on my skin. Suds dripped off my elbows, onto the floor and down the drain.

Harry stood, hugging himself under the water. My eyes trailed to the side of his hip where his skin was already tinted purple. "You really shouldn't have ran out there," I said, pressing the bruise with a light hand.

"Ow!" Harry cried. I guess I was not gentle enough.

"Oops!" I smiled in apology.

"I went out there to help you," Harry said.

"I know, baby." I caressed his skin, with an actually light hand this time.

Harry insisted, "I just don't want you getting hurt.

"Well, I don't want you getting hurt either!"

"I'm a werewolf. What's the big deal? I'll heal by tonight."

The expression I made was unintentionally censorious. "You say that like I'm not one too."

"I just wanted to help." Harry pouted. There was a moment of reticence, with just the pitter patter of the shower and the sound of our breaths against each others'. The silence was still like a deer caught in headlights. Suddenly, it was broken by the most adorable sneeze.

I could not help but giggle as Harry scrunched his nose like a bunny rabbit. "You've caught a cold," I commented.

"Don't laugh at me," Harry huffed, still sniffling.

I shook my head. I stepped out of the shower, drying off and wrapping the towel around myself. "I'll make us some tea for when you're done," I paused for a moment and added, "and I'll ask Niall for those biscuits you really like."

"Thanks, Lou."

We settled in our shared room on the boat. The vessel swayed with impressive might. The storm had yet to calm.

My fingers wrapped loosely around the gold colours handle of the porcelain teacup. The steam rose from the hot beverage into my face with its comforting warmth. What was not comforting however was this rocking horse of a boat making my tea tip out of the cup!

Harry, who had filled his cup halfway, took sips while glancing at me with crude ostentatiousness. I could see his hubristic smirk from behind the shiny gold brim of his teacup. "I told you not to pour so much," Harry reminded smugly.

"I told you so," I said in harsh mockery. "Yea yea, don't spill your tea from that high rocking horse of yours."

"I won't," His eyes narrowed into a prideful smize, "because I filled my cup with a manageable amount of tea."

I scoffed.

The boat jerked to a stop. Harry lurched forward. Tea spilling all over the floor. "Bollocks!" Harry cussed.

I could not help but laugh.

We went to the upper deck to find out what happened. The rain was still drumming on the roof of the yacht. The scene was darkened grey by storm clouds, impeding the sunlight. Only the light from the boat illuminated the island before us. It appeared that our boat had crashed and caught itself in the sand.

"We'll sort that in the morning when the rain stops." Niall assessed the situation. "You better hurry to the lower deck before the wolves come out."

With the shadowy sky, it was hard to tell what time it was. We went to the lower deck where Aurora, Zayn, Liam, and Alex were preparing for the night. Aurora had laid out some food for the wolves on the floor.

Harry and I sat down, leaning against some crates. As we settled, my mind would not. Worried thoughts surged through my brain about the boat and the fortune and- just everything. Harry leaned against my chest. I felt his weight with each breath. I wrapped my arms around him, eliciting a small smile as he closed his eyes. He was already dozing off in my embrace. I kissed his forehead gently, reminding myself the reason I was doing all this.

I murmured softly, "For every question why, you were my because."
