8.0 But I'm Pretty Obvious About It

Kennedy Addams stood in Sheriff Stilinski's office next to his son as he crossed out Tracy Stewarts picture, symbolizing that she was dead. He took in a deep breath. "Chimeras."

Stiles nodded, glancing down at the girl he was in love with. "Two dead Chimeras."

"And eight new ones." Kennedy furrowed her eyebrows, looking down at the ground. "And eight plus two equals ten."

"How about eleven?" The sheriff stated before placing Donovan's picture up on the board. Kennedy's eyes widened as she took in a gasp. Stiles grabbed a hold of her hand, lightly rubbing the back of it with his thumb. "Our tech guys confirmed something for me. They said, both the holding cell lock and the cameras could have malfunctioned because of something electromagnetic." He grabbed a hold of The Dread Doctors book that was on his desk. "You said that- uh- these guys-"

"The Dread Doctors." Kennedy nodded.

The sheriff cocked an eyebrow. "Are we really calling them that?"

The girl nodded once again, eyeing the picture of Donovan on the wall. "So what you're saying is that they broke Donovan out?"

"It's how they got into Eichan isn't it?" The sheriff shrugged. Kennedy glanced up at Stiles, who was being awfully quiet. "You're being uncharacteristically quiet."

Stiles nodded, looking down at the girl next to him. "Yeah, sorry. I'm just trying to think about it." He spoke in a low tone. Kennedy sent him a soft nod. "These are all teenagers, right? So, shouldn't we be trying to figure out why these teenagers? If The Dread Doctors went through all that, burying them, killing them, breaking one of them out of jail..."

"They weren't chosen at random." Kennedy let out a deep breath. "They all must have something in common."

"Yeah." The sheriff nodded, pointing towards the two teenagers. "Something that made them right for this experiment."

"Something that made them special." Stiles spoke, placing his hand on Kennedy's lower back.

Scott McCall, Malia Tate, Lydia Martin, Kira Yukimura, Theo Raeken stood with Kennedy and Stiles in Scott's living room with copies of The Dread Doctors spread out in front of them. "My mom's book club usually has more wine." Lydia joked as she stared down at the pages in front of her.

"Well, they also probably didn't read books that caused violent hallucinations." Stiles retorted, causing a glare from Kennedy.

Scott look up at the were-coyote. "That's why Malia's here."

"So that none of us go running into traffic?" Kennedy sent her best friend a smile. "That's going to be a hard job."

Scott nodded. "Yeah, or worse."

"Like what happened to Judy." Malia sighed, looking down. Everyone looked up at her with confusion on their faces. "Chapter fourteen."

Lydia picked up the book from the table. "Maybe I should have my mother read it. She might remember a girl with a tail leaping off the ceiling and attacking everyone."

"If it works." Stiles shrugged.

"It has to." Lydia responded, staring down at the book in her hands.

"What does that mean?" Scott questioned her.

Lydia sighed as she looked up. "I think I saw them during my surgery." Her glance returned to the cover of the book. "When I look at the cover of the book, it's almost like..."

"A memory trying to surface." Theo finished for Lydia while crossing his arms over his chest.

"Yeah." Lydia nodded.

Kira made eye contact with Malia. "Isn't that what Valack wanted when he wrote it?"

"If they did something to me, I want to know what it is." Lydia frowned as she spoke.

Kennedy leaned down and grabbed one of the copies. She then headed to the couch where she sat down. She expected Stiles to be the one to sit down next to her, but when she looked to see who it was, it was Theo. "Hey, Kenn." He smiled, leaning back into the couch.

The girl smiled. "Hey, Theo."

"Crazy thing these Dread Doctors, right?"

Kennedy nodded as the two began chatting. Stiles, who had sat across the room frowned as he watched Kennedy and Theo. "Why the fuck did he sit next to her?" He practically growled.

"Because you weren't fast enough." Malia chuckled as she crossed her legs over each other.

"But why would he sit there?"

Lydia let out a groan as she rolled her eyes. "You can't be that stupid, Stiles."

Stiles furrowed his eyebrows as he looked between the two girls. "What do you two mean?"

Malia chuckled, shaking her head. "He likes her."

"No."

"Yes." The two spoke in unison. "It's kind of obvious." Malia continued.

The boy let out a scoff. "That's crap. They're friends."

Lydia raised an eyebrow before a giggle left her lips. "Stiles, honey, he was in love with her back in second grade, too, okay? He always has been in love with her." Lydia glanced over to Kennedy and Theo and saw that Theo had his arm draped over the back of the couch. "She likes you, but if you don't tell her how you feel, she's going think you don't feel the same."

"But I'm pretty obvious about it." Stiles frowned.

"But you haven't told her." Malia smacked his shoulder.

Stiles glanced over at the two and felt himself growing more angry. He watched as Kennedy let out a giggle, and Theo moved even closer towards her. "Hey, uh, we have a job right now." Stiles exclaimed towards Kennedy and Theo. "So if everyone could start reading their books, that would be awesome."

"I don't see you reading your book, Stiles." Theo chuckled, causing Kennedy to quietly laugh.

The boy rolled his eyes. "I don't see you reading your book, Stiles." He mimicked Theo, turning to the first page of the book.

As Kennedy read through the first couple pages of the book, she became bored. "Anyone feeling anything yet?" Scott questioned his friends.

"Tired." Kira responded.

"Hungry." Lydia groaned.

"I think he meant the book." Theo chuckled causing Lydia to roll her eyes.

About twenty minutes later, Kennedy had moved to the kitchen table with Malia and Stiles to make some coffee. Stiles noticed Theo watching them, and he wrapped his arm around Kennedy's shoulder, causing her to groan in pain. "Fuck, Kenn. I'm sorry I forgot." Stiles gasped, quickly moving his arm away.

"It's okay." The girl nodded, slightly rubbing her shoulder.

Malia raised an eyebrow. "What did you do to your shoulder, Kennedy?" She questioned her best friend.

"Oh, it was nothing." Kennedy answered, trying to play it off.

The were-coyote shook her head. "I can smell the blood. What happened?"

Kennedy looked up at Stiles. "The jeep died on me again." Stiles spoke. "I asked Kennedy to check the engine, and the hood fell on her." Malia nodded, obviously not believing the story. "Wait, so, how much do you remember anyways? About the accident? Did it play like a movie in your head or was it like being completely in it again?" Stiles was asking her about how she remembered the car accident that killed her family and turned her into a coyote.

"In it." Malia answered him.

"Was it just the crash? Nothing else?" Stiles furrowed his eyebrows as he questioned the girl.

Malia shook her head. "Nothing."

Kennedy nodded and returned to her seat on the couch next to Theo, where she would eventually doze off leaning against his shoulder.

*

"So, you're feeling fine?" Stiles questioned Kennedy as the girl stood at her locker. He was leaning against the one next to hers. "You haven't had any crazy memory yet?"

The girl shook her head as she shoved some textbooks into her backpack. "Nope. Not yet. And you?"

"Nothing." Stiles answered as he watched Kennedy's phone light up and a smile appear on her face. "Is that Theo?" She nodded as she typed back a response to his 'good morning' text. "You two were getting pretty cozy last night, huh?"

Kennedy rolled her eyes as she closed her locker. "I guess? Why?"

"I don't know." The boy shrugged as the two of them started walking down the hallway. "I was just making an observation."

"Well, maybe if someone else had sat next to me, I would have been getting cozy with them."

Stiles furrowed his eyebrows. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Kennedy stopped walking and looked up at him. "It means that I wanted you to sit next to me, but you didn't."

"Well, how was I supposed to know that?"

"I thought you did."

Kennedy sat next to Lydia in her AP Biology class as Mrs. Finch spoke as the front of the class. "So, while introducing the African Cane Toad sounded like a good way to deal with Australia's infestation of the grey-backed beetle, unfortunately, the toad also decided to eat everything else in sight." She felt Theo's eyes on her, and she glanced back at him. He nodded towards the girl named Sydney who was sitting in front of her and Lydia. She glanced down at her phone and saw Theo had texted her 'Chimera?'. "And everything that tried to eat the toad, from crocodiles to household pets, quickly died from the poison they secreted." Theo once again texted her. 'Look at her hair'. Kennedy looked up and noticed Sydney's hair was falling out in chunks. "A perfect example of an invasive species. One-hundred and two toads introduced in 1935 became 1.5 billion by 2010. Once an invasive species is introduced, everything changes."

Sydney stood up from her seat quickly and placed a Drop Form on Mrs. Finch's desk. "Wise decision, Sydney." Mrs. Finch responded. Lydia grabbed a hold of her things and stood up from her seat, beginning to follow the girl. "Lydia, you know it's for the best." Lydia, without saying another word, continued to leave the room.

About five minutes later, Sydney came running back into the classroom saying that Lydia had passed out. Scott, Theo, and Kennedy quickly followed her out and into the room where Lydia was. Scott knelt down in front of her. "Lydia." He spoke as he noticed her starting to wake up. "Are you okay?"

He saw her hands shaking, and he grabbed a hold of one. "I'm okay." The girl let out a deep breath. "I'm fine."

"You remembered something." Theo spoke, moving closer towards her.

She nodded, looking up at Theo and Kennedy. "Not about The Dread Doctors. Nothing about them or the surgery."

"What was it?" Kennedy questioned her as Theo and Scott helped her up from the ground.

They placed Lydia in a seat. "My grandmother at Eichan House." Lydia answered Kennedy.

"Lydia?" Natalie Martin entered the room followed by Sydney. "Lydia." She let out a sigh of relief as she saw her daughter. "Oh my god, what happened?" She knelt down in front of the strawberry blonde. "Are you alright?"

Lydia nodded. "Mom, I'm fine. It was nothing."

"Was it a blackout? Did you faint?" Natalie continued.

"Yeah." Lydia nodded once again. "Yeah, I fainted. Mom, I'm fine. I promise."
