2.0 He Was Flirting With You

"Stiles, can't we just go to school already? I don't want to be late." Kennedy Addams whined as she followed Stiles Stilinski into the sheriff's office. He had been trying to convince his father all morning to run a background check on Theo Raeken and his family.

Stiles shook his head, tapping his father on the shoulder. "Dad, I know his family left time around the time that he was nine or ten, and his older sister died in an accident when he was eight."

Sheriff Stilinski let out a groan as he sat down on his desk. "Please, listen to Kennedy and go to school."

"Dad, this kid is a werewolf."

"Your best friend is a werewolf. Kennedy's best friend is a were-coyote." The Sheriff waved his hands in the air, not really understanding his son's problem with Theo. "I still don't know what Kira's supposed to be."

Kennedy stepped next to Stiles before speaking. "She's a kitsune."

"Exactly." The Sheriff rolled his eyes before continuing. "When the flying moneys come soaring through this station, you will have my undivided attention. Until then, just go to school."

"Yeah, Stiles." Kennedy tugged on the sleeve of Stiles's long-sleeve shirt, trying to drag him out of the room. "Your dad is right. Let's go."

Stiles furrowed his eyebrows as he stared at his father. "One second, Kenn." He held his hand up, and she crossed her arms over her chest. "Dad, what did you do?"

"What? What do you mean, 'What did I do?'"

Stiles shook his head, looking his father up and down. "There's something different about you."

His father just stood there, confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Yeah, what are you talking about?" Kennedy let out a chuckle as she watched Stiles observe his dad.

Stiles stepped foreward, and began to sniff the air around his father. Kennedy's eyes widened as she let out a laugh. "What is it?" Stiles asked, continuing to sniff. "What's different."

"For the love of god, Stiles, just go to school." The sheriff exclaimed, lightly pushing his son backwards.

"I will go if you promise to do a full background check of the Raekens."

Kennedy rolled her eyes. "Stiles, you are so paranoid."

"No." The sheriff shook his head. "You know what? Just because I am the only law enforcement officer who knows anything about this, does not make it my responsibility to do something every time you have a minor suspicion."

A smirk landed on Stiles's face. "Except you're not the only one." He motioned backwards to Officer Jordan Parrish, who was sitting at his desk. Jordan was some kind of creature, but no one had figured out what yet.

Sheriff Stilinski frowned, letting out a groan. "Parrish!"

Kennedy and Stiles walked up the steps to Beacon Hills High School. "Well, are you proud of yourself?" She frowned. "You found a speeding ticket."

Stiles nodded. "A speeding ticket signed by Theo's dad eight years ago."

"Stiles, it's a speeding ticket."

"Yeah, but who speeds?" Kennedy just shrugged as Stiles stopped walking and moved in front of her. "People trying to get away from something."

She smiled, cocking her head to the side. "How many do you have?"

"None."

"Okay, yeah, but how many would you actually have if your dad wasn't the Sheriff?"

"Seventeen."

Kennedy nodded, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah, okay. And what were you running from?" Stiles opened his mouth to speak, but quickly closed it and looked at the ground. "Stiles, I really don't understand why you're so worried. I mean, he was my best friend growing up. We can trust him."

"You look really nice today, Kenn."

Both Stiles and Kennedy turned to see Theo walking passed them. "Thanks, Theo." Kennedy sent him a smile, watching him walk into the school.

Stiles shook his head, scrunching up his nose. "Yeah, I don't trust him."

"He literally just gave me a compliment."

"Yeah, but it was the way he said it."

"He was just being nice, Stiles."

"No, he was flirting with you."

"And?"

"That's not okay."

Kennedy furrowed her eyebrows, crossing her arms over her chest. "What do you mean by that?"

Stiles's eyes widened, realizing that he had actually said that out loud. "Uh- nothing. Nothing."

"I really don't understand why you're so suspicious of him." Kennedy shook her head, glancing down at her phone.

"I remember Theo from fourth grade, okay? That's not Theo."

Kennedy sat in her AP Biology class next to Lydia Martin. She felt Lydia nudge her, and she looked up. The strawberry blonde motioned to Scott McCall, who was sitting next to Kira Yukimura at the table next to their own. Kennedy furrowed her eyebrows. Why was Scott there? He had never taken an AP class in his life. Lydia raised her eyebrows at Kira, who shook her head, but Lydia repeated it, being more aggressive. Kira let out a sigh before looking over at her boyfriend. "Scott? Are you in the right class?"

Scott raised his eyebrows, nodding. "AP biology."

"Do you know what AP stands for?" Lydia questioned him, causing Scott to look over at her and Kennedy.

Scott smiled. "Advanced Placement." He opened his textbook, which had almost every single line highlighted. Kennedy nodding, looking back up at the front of the class.

"Welcome to AP Biology." Mrs. Finch, the teacher of the class, spoke up from the blackboard. "Let's see who's awake. Can somebody tell me what plasmids are?"

Lydia flipped through her textbook as she shouted out the answer. "Circular, self-replicating DNA molecules often used in cloning proteins."

"Nicely stated, Lydia." Mrs. Finch nodded before moving on to her next question. "Now, can you tell me what vitamin is absorbed in the stomach via parietal cell production of a glycoprotein?" Lydia's eyes widened, not knowing the answer. Kennedy knew the answer, but she did not say it, because speaking in front of the class scares her. "B-12." Mrs. Finch answered her own question before looking at Scott. "Mr. McCall, did you know the answer?"

Scott shook his head. "Um- No."

"It's a common test question. What's your number one college pick?"

"Um-"

"Stop saying, 'Um'." Mrs. Finch cut the boy off.

Scott nodded before speaking. "Sorry. UC Davis."

"Good choice." Mrs. Finch slightly smiled. "It's the best school on the West Coast for biological and physical sciences. You're in the right class if that's what you're hoping for." She looked towards the entire class. "Who else thinks they are in the right class?" Kennedy raised her hand before looking back and seeing Theo sitting directly behind her with him own hand raised. She sent him a smile as the whole class raised their hands. "Good. Then you should all be prepared for the test tomorrow." Students let out groans. "Don't be so disappointed. The test is specifically to help you determine whether you should actually be in AP Biology. You have two weeks to drop. Tomorrow's test will just weed out the ones who shouldn't be here. And that could be any of you."

When the class finished, Kennedy walked out of the Biology room and felt a presence next to her. She looked up and saw Theo walking beside her. "Hey, Kenn."

"Hi, Theo."

"Crazy class, right? Mrs. Finch is kind of insane."

Kennedy let out a chuckle, nodding her head. "I had her last year for AP Chem. She gets better as the year goes on. She just likes to start off harsh so she scares some kids off."

"Are you scared for the test tomorrow?" Theo asked as the two landed in front of Kennedy's locker.

"No. I did all the summer reading and worksheets, so I think I'm good." She spoke, unlocking her locker and opening it. "You?"

Theo sighed, leaning against the locker closest to Kennedy's. "I'm a little scared that I'm not going to know all of the right things, considering I went to a different school for the last, I don't know, nine years."

"If you want, I can come over tonight, and we can study for the test together." Kennedy spoke, closing her locker after switching out all of her book. She looked at the boy and smiled.

"Shit, that would be amazing, Kenn."

"Yeah?" She asked, and Theo nodded. "Cool, can I see your phone?" He handed her the phone right away, and she plugged her number into it. "Here's my number. Just text me where you live and when you want me to come over." She handed him back the phone.

Later that day, Scott, Kira, and Kennedy were sitting in the library with Malia Tate, working on their homework for their history class together. Stiles came barging in waving two pieces of paper above his head. "What, Stiles." Kennedy let out a sigh, leaning her elbows on the table.

"I found another signature." Stiles explained, placing the papers on the table and pointing to Theo's father's signature. The four teenagers leaned forwards to look at the paper. "This is Theo's dad's signature on a speeding ticket from eight years ago. And this is his dad's signature on a transfer form to Beacon Hills High School from just a few days ago."

"How did you get his transfer form?" Kira asked her friend, looking up from the papers.

Scott lifted his eyebrows. "Did you break into the Administration Office?"

"No, I did not break into the Administration Office." Stiles let out a nervous laugh, shaking his head. This caused Kennedy to cross her arms over her chest, not believing him. "Okay, I might have broken into the Administration Office. Can we just focus on the signatures, please? They're different."

"They're sort of different." Malia shrugged.

"They're completely different!" Stiles exclaimed. "Come on. Look. The garlands don't even match, the undulations of the sinuous stroke are totally off." He pointed to the transfer form. "And look at this. Perfect example of the Criminal Tremor."

Kennedy looked down at the papers before shaking her head. "Stiles, something is so wrong with you."

"So, Theo is Theo, but his parents aren't his parents?" Kira furrowed her eyebrows, very confused.

Stiles nodded. "Someone's not some, and when I figure out who that someone really is, someone's in big trouble."

Scott stared down at the table. "But no one's done anything wrong."

"Yet." Stiles snapped at his best friend. "If Theo's parents are both psychotic killers then obviously, we should not trust him, right?"

"My parents are Peter and the Desert Wolf." Malia spoke in a monotoned voice.

Kennedy glanced between Malia and Stiles before rubbing her temples and standing up from her seat. "You're crazy, and you need to stop."

"What? Kenn, why-"

"I get that you have a hard time trusting people, but this is going too far." She let out a scoff, shaking her head. "No, going too far was running a background check."

Stiles's eye widened. "Kennedy, I just-"

"No, Stiles. I really done want to hear it right now." She shook her head before leaving the library.
